Snow Leopard and my alltel wireless card do not get along.
I recently purchased an alltel wireless card for my MacBook that connects to the internet fine, but appears to be messing with the operating system . . . or something. Alltel said they write their software according to the information they received from Apple. Apple says they send the operating system to Alltel, and they have no way to fix my problem. Can anyone out there help me?
It seems that if I shut down my MacBook after every time I use the card, I am OK.
If I use it more than once without shutting down, things start to go wrong. For example, sometimes the keyboard stops working. The mouse is fine.
More often, I disconnect from the Quicklink (alltel) software, pull the card, only it seems the software has not truly disconnected, as the Menu Bar ceases to work, the colored wheel spins and spins, and I cannot shut down my MacBook, not even w/the "3 magic keys," unless I press the power button. A complete shutoff always solves any problems.
I did check Disk Utility and found that many disk permissions did not match and repaired them. This did not fix the problem.
My local Mac "fixer" said she had the same problem with another customer and had to re-install the operating system, etc., etc., but would have to charge me a minimum of $70. She has no idea why this worked or if it will work with my MacBook. I do not want to spend $70 with no guarantee, or even probability, that the problem will be solved.
Any ideas?
Hi Voodooflea, I have experienced exactly the same problem as you describe here. The solution I found was to simply NOT use the QuickLink Mobile software to connect. Rather, just go into your System Preferences and then to the Network section. If it isn't already there, create a new connection with the modem, putting in the appropriate numbers for the telephone and account name. Then, connect from within the Network system preferences and you probably won't have the lock-up of your computer. It seems that I only have this problem when I use the QuickLink Mobile software to connect. Let us know if this works for you.

While transferring photos from iPhone 4S (iOs 7.1.1) to iPhoto '09 (8.1.2) on Macbook (Snow Leopard 10.6.8), their geolocation does not pass along.
How are you transferring the photos? In the iphoto preferences is look up loations st to automatically?

I did a clean install of Snow Leopard and now when I reloaded iWork 09 from my timemachine it will not open anything. any ideas.
iWork '09 is still available from the likes of Amazon.
Your experience is why I never trusted downloaded versions when there's a physical DVD available.
It may be possible to reactivate with your code, but I can't advise you as to how. -

above card are having issue with WPA2 enabled ssid connecitivity. strange is , the same users are getting connected to other wep enabled SSID but its not working for WPA2 SSID.
I have external ACS server which is used for radius authentication. Last time I had put same query in support forum did some workaround.
eq. disabling DHCP proxy option in WLC and moving all DHCP scope in external server.
After doing this workaround this mentioned users are still facing issue. I gone through some cisco document and some forums and came across that there is something to be done in " Session Timed Out " optionin WLC
which is default 1800 sec based on that I tried to capture debug outputs for mentioned above problematic clients and user who is working fine .

OK, here is what I have found. Since the printer is on an ethernet network it can not be seen since there is no more apple talk. I must set it up as a LPD printer. Xante tech support has told me how to do this but they are baffled by the fact that it will not print. I am using a Linksys wireless/broadband router.
These are my numbers:
IP 192.168.1.110
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.188.1.1
DNS Server" 66.103.237.2.66.103.251.130
Xante has suggested using 192.168.1.112 and the printer is found and the print queue is opened and the following message is in the print queue window: Network host '192.168.1.112' is busy; will retry in 10 seconds... Nothing ever prints.
On this list I have seen a successful connection in the past through an airport connection. I think that the number that Xante has suggested is not correct.
I am able to print to this printer through another computer on the network that has not been upgraded to Leopard.

More specifically, what spare inputs do you have on the TV, and what video card are you currently driving.
IMHO S-Video is going to give you about a poor a picture as you can get, mostly because of the limited bandwidth and the fact it's based around standard resolution TV (e.g. NTSC signaling).
The best experience would be via HDMI, but for that you'd need a video card with a DVI interface, plus a DVI -> HDMI cable. If you don't have a DVI-based video card and you're OK spending a few dollars that would be your best bet, although off hand I don't know specifically which card you'd need - most of the modern cards are PCI-X or PCIe and won't work in the G4.
If you don't want to replace the card then you'll need to let us know what kind of video card you have in it so that we can find the best match. -
EMET 5.1 and F-Secure 5.1 do not get along; do other AVs?
This regards a freshly built (by me) W-7 HP 64-bit PC. After I installed Office 2010 and all updates, I installed F-Secure IS. Then I tried to install EMET 5.1. However, every time I try to start IE11, I receive an "EAF mitigation" error which
prevents IE from displaying. If I uninstall either EMET or F-Secure, IE will start normally. Obviously there is an interaction between EMET and F-Secure. F-Secure advises that I add an exclusion for EMET to its manual scanning, which makes absolutely no sense
to me because I am not scanning. However, I did that anyway, but that made no difference and "EAF mitigation" still rears its ugly head.
I'd like to know of anti-virus products which are proven to work with EMET, given that cyber-miscreants appear to be moving away from malware detectable by traditional anti-virus solutions, i.e. I will prioritize EMET over a specific anti-virus.On
f-secure forums, alike issues have been reported and linked to f-secure deepguard functionality. You culd disable that, or configure emet to not do EAF for iexplore.exe.
Issues with combining EMET and some antivirus applications can arise if the antivirus implements alike mitigations as EMET.
In regard of compatibility, most AV is compatible if configuring EMET and AV correctly. Some
vendors
offer guidance for configuration to avoid issues. Also be sure to read through

Then you've installed Snow Leopard.
It needs to be 10.6.8 so download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. Then try installing Mavericks.
Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
A. Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

We need to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard and then on up the chain. How?
We have an old MacBook running Leopard (10.5.8). Can we upgrade to Snow Leopard and then add others gradually untill we get to the newest version? If so, were can we find a copy of Snow Leopard?
Before embarking on a major OS upgrade, it would be wise, advisable and very prudent if you backup your current system to an external connected and Mac formatted Flash drive OR externally connected USB, Thunderbolt or FireWire 800, Mac formatted hard drive. Then, use either OS X Time Machine app to backup your entire system to the external drive OR purchase, install and use a data cloning app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, to make an exact and bootable copy (clone) of your entire Mac's internal hard drive. This step is really needed in case something goes wrong with the install of the new OS or you simply do not like the new OS, you have a very easy way/procedure to return your Mac to its former working state.
Then, determine if your Mac meets ALL minimum system install requirements.
To install Yosemite, you need one of these Macs:
iMac (Mid-2007 or later)

If you run any older Mac software from the earlier PowerPC Macs, then none of this software will work with the newer OS X versions (10.7 and onward). OS X Snow Leopard had a magical and invisible PowerPC emulation application, called Rosetta, that worked seamlessly in the background that still allowed older PowerPC coded software to still operate in a Intel CPU Mac.
The use of Rosetta ended with OS X Snow Leopard as the Rosetta application was licensed to Apple, from a software company called Transitive, which got bought out, I believe, by IBM and Appe could no longer secure their rights to continue to use Rosetta in later versions of OS X.
So, you would need to check to see if you have software on your Mac that maybe older than, say, 2006 or older.

If you have any commercial antivirus installed and/or hard drive cleaning apps installed on your Mac, like MacKeeper, CleanMyMac, TuneUpMyMac, MacCleanse, etc. now would be a good time to completely uninstall this apps by doing a Google search to learn how to properly uninstall these types of apps.
These types of apps will only cause your Mac issues later after the install of the new OS X version and you will have to completely uninstall these types of apps later.
Once you have determined all of this, you should be able to find the latest version of OS X Yosemite by clicking on the Mac App Store icon in the OS X Dock and then login to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID and password.
You can then begin the download and installation process of installing OS X 10.10 Yosemite from the Mac App Store.

You haven't provided much information so there is no way for us to trouble shoot your issue. I'm guessing you plugged a mic into the port, if so go to manufacturer of the mic's web site and see if that device is Snow Leopard compatible. Otherwise our hands are tied on how to help you.

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard, and I have Aperture 3.1.3. Now after I import pics from my camera I get a dialogue box so large that I can't see the eject card button. Consequently, I can't get rid of the dialogue box without having to do a force quit on Aperture. How do I fix?
I can drag the dialog box, but I can't move it up far enough to get to the eject card button. The dialogue box contains all the jpeg Numbers I am trying to upload. It has never done that before. It used to be just a smal dialogue box with no jpeg numbers in it.
It is even difficult to get to the Finder with the Dialague box is open. I have to force quit aperture.
Any ideas would be appreciated. -
Mouse skipping- Wired and wireless, Snow Leopard and Lion
We purchased a new Mac Pro last year and from the beginning have had issues with the mouse skipping around while in use. Issue is intermittent. Exists whether using wired or wireless mouse and present in both of the two user profiles that we have set up. Initially we were running Snow Leopard, and now have upgraded to Lion - which hasn't made any difference. All updates have been installed.
I've tried resetting the SMC, PRAM and trashing preferences. Hardward test resulted with: 4VDC/1/40000003: VideoController
Could an issue with the video controller be causing this?
I've read a lot of discussions with various mouse issues that are similar - yet no clear resolutions.

Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)I plan to definitely have that checked out - but the machine is currently in high demand and if that is not related to the mouse issue, it will be tough to take it out of service at the time.
Do you have any idea if the video controller issue could cause this mouse issue?

FCP6 on Snow Leopard and Adobe CC on ML with GTX card in same machine?
Hello, I have a couple 5,1 Mac Pros in a post production environment running Snow Leopard and FCP6. We would like to upgrade to Adobe CC and take advantage of CUDA with GTX cards. However, we still need to be able to open/re-edit old FCP projects for a while.
FCP6 needs SL, while GTX cards need ML. My plan is to have each OS on separate HDDs and boot into the one we need at the time.
Problem with this: The 5,1s currently have 5770s which require one of the two 6-pin power connectors but the GTX cards need them both.
1. Is the best solution to open the case and switch which card is powered every time, depending on need?
2. Is it ok to leave the non-powered card in the PCI slot while doing this?
3. Is there a better solution to this problem?

The whole "drivers" and how you can't use that GTX in SL... I can run Windows with any card because drivers are available.
