Snow Leopard Breaks Recent Items in some apps

some apps, logic pro 9.1.1 garageband text edit lose recent items history.
I have tried deleting com.apple.recentitems.plist
re: a previous thread that is now locked but the problem stil persists.
I updated from 10.5.8

That is Finder's recent items. It has nothing to do with particular apps. Try deleting those Apps' preference files.

I recently upgraded to Mavericks from Snow Leopard. Does Snow Leopard still exist on my Mac? If so, is it possible to restart under Snow Leopard in order to run PowerPC apps? If not, is there an OS available in 64 bit that supports PowerPC apps? Mav ***.

The only reason I upgraded to Mavericks was because my Snow Leopard OS was 32 bit, which I was told would support only 4GB of RAM.
That wasn't quite right. You can put in as much RAM as your Mac's hardware supports. The division is in the apps themselves. A 32 bit app can't use more than 4 GB or RAM. A 64 bit app can use much more.
For example, as a 32 bit only version, Photoshop CS3 can't use more 4GB of RAM, no matter how much you actually have installed. CS4 or later can use all the RAM you want to throw at it.

  • Snow Leopard breaks iWork "recent item" lists?

I no longer have recent items listed for my iWork suite after installing Snow Leopard--it always shows as an empty list now, no matter how many doc, presentations, etc. I've opened. Is this a known bug?

I installed Snow Leopard today, and noticed that the following applications no longer remember recent documents when you go to 'Open Recent':
    - Keynote
    - Numbers
    - Pages
    - Preview
    - Text Edit
I tried dragging the file 'com.apple.recentitems.plist' to the Trash, emptying the Trash, and rebooting. That fixed the problem for all the applications. So the question now is, why did Snow Leopard cause this problem in the first place? I feel an update comng on!

  • HT1222 Does the most recent security update for Snow Leopard break Rosetta or has that been fixed?

I want to make sure Security Update 2012-001 does not break Rosetta on Snow Leopard.  I heard something about that, and I can't afford to lose my PowerPC applications.  Thanks.

The original one did have such issues.
The revised v. 1.1 version got rid of those issues.
Only the v. 1.1 version is now available for download. It can be installed as the only update, or on top of the original update to correct the problems.

  • I recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion and now some CDs I use for school do not work.  Can I create a partition to run both Snow Leopard and LIon or does it only work to run windows?  How do I do this?

Getting a new CD from publisher is not an option as they would want me to pay for a new one and they are pricey.  If possible I would prefer to keep my upgrade to lion but would go back to leopard if there's no other option.

You can add another partition on which you can install Snow Leopard. If you do, however, you cannot use Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows. Just so you know.
To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.  (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
    4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
Boot from your Snow Leopard DVD and install on the volume you just created. Be sure you set the new partition as the target for your Snow Leopard system.

  • Soundbooth CS4 on Mac Snow Leopard breaks MS RDC Sound.

After upgrading from Trial to Full version the Soundbooth software installs additional codecs and breaks sound playback from Microsoft Remote Desktop Control application.
After updating the sound from RDC plays with a choppy echo sound after each noise that the remote desktop machine makes.
To resolve this I had to get rid of the following files.
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.audio.AggregateDevices.plist
    /Library/Preferences/Audio/com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
Uninstalling Soundbooth and using the uninstall additional codecs in Application/Utilities does not clean up these files.
    The contents of /Library/Preferences/com.apple.audio.AggregateDevices.plist is
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

            </array>

    </plist>
The file com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist makes references to:
    <key>com.adobe.medialayer.coreaudiohost:Soundbooth 2.0</key>
    <dict>
    <key>controls</key>
    <array/>
    </dict>
It could be that all that needs to be done is clean up the references and remove the com.apple.audio.AggregateDevices.plist file.  I find it rather strange that the Adobe uninstallers do not clean up their messes.
I would be delighted if there was a work around to this problem.  This took a lot of time to figure out where the problem was in the system.  Well hope it helps someone at least if they come across this error as well, googling was no help.
If anyone has a clean Mac OS X 10.6.2 install, could they attach these files to this thread so I know what is supposed to be here instead of this extra Adobe stuff?

Like I said, it is hard to be certain.
As far as I am aware, issues with Snow Leopard are specific to font anomalies in 10.6.7, and the fact that you cannot use the OS's printing system to produce PDFs via File > Print from Adobe applications. Do you have a link or citation for the issues you read online?
    So, reasons to suspect Adobe: running the Adobe installer triggered the problem; Adobe programs crash and they crash in Adobe code;
Reasons to suspect Apple: it's not a single program crashing; the crashes don't seem to make sense; crashes happen for both CS4 and CS5; crashes affected non-Adobe programs (that is what you meant by "all my programs," right?).
So, my intuition is you should try an OS reinstall.
Though even if the root problem is the OS, Adobe probably has some blame here -- Adobe's programs should not crash. So you can certainly take it up with Adobe and hold firm to the line "your program should not crash; why is it crashing" and ultimately they should be able to tell you why (based on the crash report, and perhaps other things). But the answer may turn out to be, "because this Apple subsystem is broken. Fix it and our programs will stop crashing."
Have you looked at the logs in Console.app? They might shed some additional light.
Also, since you have recently reinstalled the OS, you are probably in a good position to reinstall the OS. Most people are reluctant to do so because they have a lot of data and applications, and it's a huge pain to preserve them. It sounds like you're not in that position, so doing that reinstall is relatively easy. I would therefore do it just for the peace of mind.
You can contact Adobe Support at http://www.adobe.com/go/supportportal.

  • Snow Leopard (10.6.8) Web Browser, App Store, iTunes Store image won't finish loading.

    Hello,
I've recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard by clean installing. Once I upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.6.3) everything seemed to work perfectly except for the new keyboard that I purchased (requires upgrade to 10.6.8). So as I upgraded to 10.6.8 by "Software Update…".
Once the update was completed and the machine restarted I've noticed when I opened opened couple of common sites in Safari (such as: Flickr, YouTube, and Amazon) and some of the images won't finish loading with a "?" in the middle where the image would be and browser assumes that the site was done loading. First I thought this was a refresh problem so I hit refresh on the browser but nothing really happened. I thought this was strange so I decided to download Google Chrome and Firefox to try it out as well. Same situation as well… Then I opened  the App Store and iTunes Store and the same things happened there as well. I'm assuming that all these images exists online so anything that access the web to load images will just crap out. One odd thing is that this problem don't seem to happen on any of the sites on Apple when I view it in the web browsers.
I couldn't figure out the reason so I decided to reinstall Snow Leopard (10.6.3) again by cleaning out the hard drives as before. Once it finished installing I opened up iTunes Store and Safari and the images loads fine. So went ahead (crossing my fingers) to "Software Updates…" to 10.6.8 and the the problem happened again.
I naively went ahead and tried to clean installing it again, thinking "Third time is the charm!" But same situation once I upgrade to 10.6.8. After the third time I let the browser sit there after it didn't load those images. I waited about five minutes and hit refresh and the images loaded. This happened the same with App Store and iTunes Store images as well. This is very odd because my interment connection hasn't been a changed before I upgraded to 10.6.8. Seems like browsers just cuts off the loading time of the whatever that's lagging instead on that site.
Is there a solution in the preferences for this or is this some kind of a bug that I'm having with my OS disc or network card? I don't think this has nothing to do with my modem or my interment service because it was working fine before I upgraded to 10.6.8.

I get that same problem too-you could try checking your network settings, release and renew your IP address, see if that helps. There is a tweaking menu you can get in Firefox that can help somewhat (google Firefox tweaks) but you'd have to raise the hood in FF and tinker a bit, but it does help. How much RAM do you have on your Mac Pro?, also update your Java and shockwave
sorry I can't be of more help

  • How can I Downgrade to Snow Leopard and keeping all 3rd party apps?

New to MacBookPro and really happy. With Lion...not so much. I want to downgrade to SL, however, apparently I must reformat the hard drive. Here´s the real question: If I have a backup of my entire HD with the user, docs and all the apps I have installed (on Lion), once I downgrade to Snow Leopard, can I just move all my apps from the back up disk I have made of my Lion-Running hard drive? In other words, How can I downgrade without having to reinstall every single third party app I have?

First, how new is this Mac?  A Mac as a rule cannot boot to an older operating system version than that with which it was originally supplied.  In other words, if this is a new MBP that came with Lion then you probably cannot get it to boot to SL.
Some applications (and I take it you do mean full "applications" rather than "apps" which are mobile device programs -- it helps to be clear o terminology) can just be dragged from place to place.  Others, notably Adobe and Office, install things all over the place and unless you are good at finding hidden files with obscure names in 10 different places you will just have to re-install them.

  • Dual boot drive - Mountain Lion and Snow Leopard - Correct order to load software /apps?

    Hi
I want to create a dual boot drive for Mountain Lion and Snow Leopard as some of my hardware (is not supported in Mountain Lion).
I am happy how to do this, I just want to know if there is a correct way to install software and apps.
My plan was to do a clean install of both using two partitions, the larger going to ML and smaller one for SL.  I was going to install SL from the DVD and then after updating from 10.6. to 10.6.8 and download ML from the app store and install on the larger partition.
Do I install all the software I use like Final Cut, Aperture, iLife (for Garageband) etc on the ML or SL partition or on both.  Also, is there a better way / practise of the order software updates / apps and boxed software should be installed when doing a clean machine install.
    Thanks in advance.
    Matt

    Thanks mende1
So, if I have software I need to use on both ML and SL - for example Final Cut as I have a Canopus AVDC box which is not supported in ML but only SL, do I need to install the same software in both OS?
I usually open apps using spotlight and didn't know if it would software / apps would open if already installed on the other partition?
    Thanks again

  • Wiki migrated from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion missing some links

    Hi
I migrated the wiki instance running on my old Snow Leopard Sever to the new Mountain Lion server following the instructions here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5082
All looked good, but then I find that some, not all,  of the links reference the old server instance and come up wtih 404's.
If I right click on the links that are broken and inspect them the results differ.
the outer html has a reference that looks like this
    <a class="cc-route-enabled" target="_blank" href="http://old.server/wiki/pages/G3J0z4r/Clint's_Index.html">Clint's Index</a>
a link that works looks like this
the outer reference is the same but the inner
    <a class="cc-route-enabled" href="/wiki/pages/Q4g545J/CMS_Teaching_Infrastructure_2012.html">CMS Teaching Infrastructure 2012</a>
The pages still exist. If you do a find for the link title you can find the page ok.
Is there a way to fix the broken links to remove the absolute paths to the old server?
    Cheers
    Jacqui

OK I've managed to retrive my folders by doing the following
1/ Open Finder and click on the Go Menu option
2/ Hold down the Alt key so that 'Library' apperas in the list of folders you can go to
3/ Select 'Library' and navigate to the Mail/Mailboxes folder
4/ Expand the tree and find your personal folders somewhere below that node (each personal folder will have its own .mbox extension)
5/ COPY the folders you want to some different location (eg your desktop). You need to do this as you won't be able to access the original location those files are in in the next couple of steps
6/Go to the mail App and choose File->Import Mailboxes...
7/ Select the 'Apple Mail' option from the 'Import From' section and hit continue
8/ Multiple select all the mailboxes you copied to your desktop in step 5/ above
9/ Now all your mailboxes will appear under an 'Import' node in your mail sidebar
10/ Breath a sigh of relief that you have managed to retrieve your precious personal folders!!!
Not sure why Apple is silent on this issues as obviously loads of people are expeiencing itand the fact that they now hide your library folder by default doesn't help one bit!!!
    Anyway hope this helps

  • Upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard - now have problems with basic apps?

I have a 2007 iMac (5.1, 2007) dual core. It's capable of running Snow Leopard and Lion (but not, I believe ML).
I just bought the upgrade SL discs from Apple and installed them as an upgrade, moving up to 10.6.3 (from the discs). After running software update I'm now on 10.6.8.
Since upgrading I've successfully run Time Machine. However I have the following problems:-
A bunch of emails were present in the Inbox, but contained no body text - just the subject line. I have managed to since find most of them successfully from TM. This is a minor annoyance but I thought I'd mention it.
ITunes won't boot up. It booted the first time I tried it, but since then the little icon just bounces up and down.
Certain apps won't quit properly. I quit from the top menu, but the little blue light remains under the icon in the dock. I then have to 'Force Quit - Application Not Responding' *every time*.
Safari frequently won't load up bookmarked or seach pages, the progress bar gets stuck part way across and I stare at the rainbow pinwheel for ages, before having to quit, then Force Quit, then restart Safari and try again.
Now, I'm tempted to do a Clean Install, but after four international moves (Singapore-Australia-UK-Canada) I no longer have any of the original discs, and thus as I understand it will lose iLife. And iLife 11 needs Lion.
I've done a disc permissions repair thing via the Mac Disc Utility. I've run a few clean-up operations via Onyx.
Any suggestions gratefully received. My Mac as been running great for years, but this upgrade has been extremely disappointing thus far.
    thanks
    Feargus

    Hi baltwo
Many thanks for your advice. I've read all the links and will be buying a 2nd external HD to do a SuperDuper back up. I already had a 1Tb drive with Maxtor back up on it, and I also managed to get a Time Machine back up as well, so at least my data should be safe.
Qn - If I back up the System and Utility folders as well as the Home folder, I don't suppose I can restore them after an install and everything (eg iLife) will 'just work'?
Anyway, I went straight from Tiger to Snow Leopard. I don't have any Tiger discs either (see reasons above) so now have no way of restoring original set up. I tried to boot from the SL install CD and then hold 'C' but must be getting something wrong as I don't get the Disk Utility pop up. It just boots as normal to the desktop.
Anyway, via the normal Disc Utitlity I've done a Repair Permissions again with no major issues. However, my Onyx software now won't run at all so I can't clean any caches a second time.
I've contacted the Apple rep who sold be the SL discs but she's not got back to me yet re iLife.
This weekend I'm going to try a fresh upgrade. If that fails I'll try Erase and Install, if I can get the 'C' button timing right. I'll update if I have any successs.
    cheers

  • Snow Leopard Breaks Bonjour Printing (HP Color Laserjet)

    Hi,
I have a MacBook (newly reformatted) with the newest version of print drivers from HP's website, connected to a HP Color Laserjet CM1312nfi, with print sharing enabled and "share this printer over the network checked". It used to work well for Bonjour printing from all my other leopard macs in my house, before I updated to Snow Leopard.
All of the computers I mention here are fully updated.
    On the other computers....
The printer shows up in add a printer under Bonjour, but it takes a long time to find the driver. I have tried printing using the "Generic PostScript Printer" driver as well as the HP Color Laserjet cm1312MFP driver, but both get stuck at "Connecting to Printer". After a few minutes of this they peter out and just mark the job as completed.
This is all while the printer is awake and the host computer is awake.
Another computer, without the HP Printer solution software installed, but that still comes up with the HP Color Laserjet cm1312 MFP drivers, will say "Connected to printer" then automatically mark the job as on hold. No matter how many times I reset the print queue, on this computer nothing works.
These computers are all running 10.6.
I can print directly from the computer that is hosting the bonjour printer without any problems.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Josh

    Josh,
First, let me make sure my assumptions are correct. The printer is USB connected to the Mac that has printer sharing turned on, and the other Macs find the shared printer via Bonjour. All the Macs are running Snow Leopard. The computer with the printer connected via USB prints just fine. All of the other computers don't work.
So, let me ask this. If you open up the Sharing System Preference, and select Printer Sharing, Printer Sharing is turned on, the printer you want to share is listed in the list with a checkmark next to it, and the Users is setup so Everyone Can Print. Also when you open up the Print & Fax System Preference and click on your printer, the "Share this printer on the network" checkbox is on as well.
Next make sure that all the computer are running the HP Drivers version 2.2 from Apple Software Update (or downloaded from [Apple.com|http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907]).
If all of this is true, let me ask if you connect the device to Ethernet (if possible at least temporarily) if all of the computers can find and print to the CM1312? This might help narrow things down.
    Just trying to help.
