Snow Leopard doesn't reconize my iPhone

Hi Everyone...
Well. After installing Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro, iTunes is not able to find my iPhone - It doesn't even show.
I wanted to use my iPhone for internet as i once could, but since my MBP can't show it, all it does is charging battery...
Any one having the same problem??

HI,
Try repairing disk permissions and see if that helps...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

Preview.app in Snow Leopard doesn't open some jpg files.
Preview does't issue an error message, it behaves as I did't try to open file at all.
These images could be easy opened in iPhoto, so files seem to be OK.
I couldn't attach one such example image to this message, it's exceeds 2mb limit, but courtesy to google image could be downloaded by the link https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B56gs1tsb9aNYjA2MDdmNzUtOWY3NS00ODg1LWIzZDAtYTA 5YzFjZmZjYjRh&hl=en_US.
    What's that? Should I file a bug?

Unfortunately, it sounds as if your internal disk failed (hardware failure).
    Things to try:
    (1) Boot from your Apple Hardware Test CD/DVD, which sometimes is a separate disk or sometimes is on the original OS install disk. Run the tests, all of them, to see what is amiss.
    (2) Reset PRAM as described in  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 . I don't think this is likely to help because even though your startup disk is not being selected, it seems that your internal disk is simply unable to be found or mounted, implying hardware failure more than software. But it's worth a try.
Probably time to take your computer in for repairs, either at the Apple Store or to an authorized Apple repair shop. Most likely they will simply replace your drive. You could also ask them to mount the old drive in an enclosure to see if files can be copied from it if you don't have a backup.

  • Why did I have to buy Snow Leopard just to get my iPhone to work?

I received my new iPhone 4 this past week and when I plugged it in, it said my software was not up to date. At the time, I was running 10.4.11 and things were running great, which is why I continued to keep it there as it fulfilled the duties it needed to for my work. Then, rather than just plugging in my new phone and letting the Mac do its thing, I had to go out, purchase Snow Leopard, install, wait, and then install phone. So, what used to be a relatively quick process for a new Mac product became hours and hours, and also cost extra money which I did not intend to spend as I was content running Tiger. I was coming from an iPhone 3GS, which was working just fine on my current system to this.
Is Apple considering refunding the cost of the software to customers who had to upgrade the OS just to get his or her iPhone running? If they are not considering it, I think that they should.
As a loyal Mac costumer, I am a bit frustrated that the process is turning into that which I desired to get away from- the PC and Windows- in which everything would still work the same as the updates were made. I would appreciate some feedback on this topic.

If you need more of an answer than Barney already gave you, Tiger doesn't support all the features of the iPhone 4, in much the same way it doesn't support all the features of iTunes 9. This should not be much of a surprise. Tiger was released in mid 2005 & the last version update to 10.4.11 was released in November of 2007. It simply lacks many of the underlying OS services the more recent versions include.

  • Snow Leopard Mail not sync with iPhone Mail (iCloud)?

    Hello all,
Just like to query and confirm:
This is my sister's Mac Mini running Snow Leopard, and her iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 on iCloud, she has activated iCloud on her iPhone, using the same Apple ID
She has told me her desktop Mac mini's mail doesn't seem to sync with the mail on her iPhone, but it was, about 3 weeks ago
I know both are different, her Snow Leopard would be running MobileMe and her iPhone would be running iCloud, even though both are using the same Apple ID.
Is the Mail part regardless of whether on MobileMe or iCloud, they would sync, or will not?
I guess the only thing to do now is to update her Mac mini to Lion as soon as possible.
    Thanks and cheers.

Yes, you need to upgrade to Lion in order to use iCloud. MobileMe and iCloud are separate email services.

  • Is there any way to download my Mac Mail Contact list (Addressbook)from Snow Leopard to an iPad, or iPhone?

I have an Intel iMac Model 8,1 Running Snow Leopard (10.6.8), and a 4th Gen iPad. Is there any way that I can import my Mac Addressbook from my iMac to the iPad so that I don't have to manually enter over 1,100 names and email addresses?
My installed iTunes (v11.0.3) function for synchronizing the two units tells me that Contacts are sync'ed only via iCLoud, which, or course is only available with OS 7.0 and above. I cannot uppgrade my iMac above Snow Leopard without losing application compatibility on both a major contact database program, and an engineering drawing software program, with thousands of manhours and dollars worth of valuable files, that have been generated over many years past, neither software applications of which are supported by OS 10.7 and above.
I cannot believe that Apple would be so blindsighted to this type of issue and there must be some work-around.

Worked like a charm and resolved my problem totally. The only issue I had is that, unlike the Computer (Mac OS). the iPad doesn't give constant visibility to what it is doing (feedback), so I wasn't initially sure it had done anything.
When I opened my emailed message with .vcf file attached, and tapped the .vcf attachment icon, I saw activity on the icon for just a few seconds, then it reverted to the original with nothing apparently happening. After about 30 seconds, the secondary menut popped up indicating the transfer of 1200 addresses would be completed, if I approved the action. Another 10 to 15 seconds then transpired before the completed Contact list appeared on the ipad. So you must be patient, if you have a large Addressbook. That's reasonable, but unexpected lack of feedback left me wondering, like so many other things on the iPad.
THank you for the assist. Apparently Apples Mac Genius people did not know this procedure, and I will pass it on to my local Apple Store Instructor.

  • Macbook pro/snow leopard cannot see photos on iphone 4 ios7 and therefore cannot download

Since installing a new hard drive, my macbook pro 2009 / snow leopard shows no photos on my iphone (when there are 147). I have not had a problem with downloading photos previously. Any help appreciated.
    Tim

Have you synced the phone with iTunes on the Mac? Have you installed all system updates? iOS7 only works with later versions of iTunes & the OS.
iPhoto should allow you to see the pictures & import them from the phone. The other option is 'Image Capture' application. It should be in the Applications folder.
You may also need to unlock the passcode to show the device on the Mac.

    I tried :
    Reinstall with format
Utility disc on boot cd (scan disk & rights repair)
Even when I try to boot cd without second screen, I ve white screen
    (after a update to 10.6.4)
    Help me please

    Hi Tony,
I don't how these instructions are the same, here is what the article says:
    _Resetting PRAM and NVRAM_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    • Release the keys.
Your original post said *"Restart the mac and depress the alt, command, P and R keys simultaneously. You should hear the boot chime. Keep the keys depressed until you hear the boot chime a further three times. On the final boot chime release the keys and let the mac boot normally."* How I understand your post that totals 4 chimes vs. the 2 Apple specifies. Am I missing something?

  • I installed 10.6.8 through Live Update, now Snow Leopard doesn't start at all! And I don't even have my Leopard DVD here! What should I do?

Two days I ago I installed 10.6.8 through Live Update. But, since then, I can't open Snow Leopard! Everytime I got the grey page and the request to reboot turning the Macbook off and then on. I could use Safe Mode, used Utility to repair all the processes and deleted any cache but nothing, tried a procedure of renaming the kernel found on the net and now I can't even open the Safe Mode. I don't even have here my Snow Leopard dvd! What should I do? Called the customer service twice but not that great help. Can I try to use another Snow Leopard dvd (i.e. from a friend of mine)? Should I format the partition and reinstall it? I'm really angry about this, got this Macbook since less than one year and it crashes after an autoupdate, probably forcing me to 700 km x 2 trip to get that dvd (and of course those of any other app I got?!)? Grrr.

... tried a procedure of renaming the kernel found on the net ...
If you've been doing things like that, you probably destroyed your system. You need the installation disc that came with the machine. Another one won't work, unless it's for the same model.
I'm really angry about this, got this Macbook since less than one year and it crashes after an autoupdate ...
It failed to boot because of incompatible third-party system modifications that you installed. We know that, because it started in safe mode. Then, instead of removing the modifications, which would have solved your problem, you did something that immobilized the machine completely. You should not have updated the OS without having an installation disc available, and you shouldn't be using a computer at all without backups. Apple can't protect you from the consequences of making bad choices.

  • Safari on Snow Leopard doesn't play right with multimedia on WordPress

I have a problem when I insert a QuickTime movie or Flash graphic into a WordPress post. The problem is that the CSS drop-down menu on the post page fall 'behind' the QuickTime movie instead of in front.
To combat this I inserted the following embed codes in the html for the movie: <param name="wmode" value="transparent"> and wmode="transparent"
This would appear to fix the drop-down problem but it creates a new problem for Safari on Snow Leopard for Macs. The QuickTime controls don't work on the movies. You can start/stop the movie by using the spacebar but the transparent layer kills access to the controls when either QuickTime X or QuickTime 7.x is used in Safari. Seems to work fine in Firefox.
It might be easier to show the problem via examples which follow:
    No transparency code example
    http://www.hawaii247.org/2009/11/06/community-pays-tribute-and-honors-uncle-geor ge-naope/
    transparency code embedded example
    http://www.hawaii247.org/2009/10/29/rallying-in-hilo-for-the-international-day-o f-climate-action/
Is there a away around the drop-down bug so I don't have to use the transparency embed code? The drop-down bug also occurs in IE8 I believe. If you choose the Sports drop-down you should see what I'm talking about in the first example.

    Yep. Exactly as you describe.
Since your menu "drop downs" are the source of the original issue have you considered breaking the "long" one into "two" parts?

  • VPN addresses that worked in Snow Leopard doesn't work in Lion configurations

    Hi!
I need to connect to a VPN (PPTP) to access some link addresses that are configured through this VPN.
I can connect to VPN in both OS (Snow and Lion), however only in the Snow Leopard I can access correctly the links that I need, on Lion I get this error:
    Host xxxxxxxxxxxxxx not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)
On Lion I can ping to IP address but I can't ping to host name. I already set the hosts file and it's not working. I tried to use OpenDNS and it's not working also.
Anyone has some idea? I already spent more than a week searching on google to a possible solution but unfortunatly I can't get.
    Thanks!

    To answer my own question...
When using the method where both computers are hooked together with a single ethernet cable --
Go to SnowLeopard machine and set IPv6 to automatic, and select away from DHCP to manual.  It will do a self-assigned IP address.
Got to the Yosemite machine and configure it's ethernet to IPv6, DHCP to manual, and put in an IP address one different from the self-assigned address that the SL machine took.  We also changed the net mask to 255.255.0.0 from 255.255.255.0, and set the server to the .0 of the self-assigned class C.  Those last two steps might not be necessary.

  • My Mac Mini with Snow Leopard doesn't boot

When booting, I see a gray screen, a blue screen and another gray with the
little round activity meeter which suddenly stops, and the picture freezes.
Is there any good step-by-step guide for troubleshooting this?
I'm not sure I have 10.6.2, but I keep it upgraded.

Is your Mac Mini purchased new since August 28, 2009? If it is, are you using the Mac Mini Snow Leopard installer disc? Only the disc prebundled with such Mac Minis will install a Mac OS X on those Mac Minis.
If it is older, are you using the retail 10.6 installer disc which looks like * If not, only those discs, which are not labelled OEM, Upgrade, or DropIn will install 10.6 on your Mac. You can't use the disc prebundled with another Mac on it.
Use the startup manager to boot the discs:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106178
If the hard disc is not apparent, a data recovery software may be necessary if your data is not backed up*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
If your hard drive is present, read what I said earlier about booting off the correct installer disc, if the hard disk is not able to boot, and booting off the Snow Leopard installer. That will allow you to repair the directory of a backed up system. If your system is not backed up, and won't boot, then look at my backup link above to recover your system first before attempting any installation or directory repair of your hard disc. Any attempt install a new system on a hard disc that won't boot an existing system will only result in a corrupted system. Any attempt to repair a directory may result in worse issues if the hard drive is marginal. So at least having a recovered data set if not a backed up one is essential before doing any repairs on your system.

  • Snow Leopard doesn't redetect display after partial standby

Hi, I'm using a Mac Mini in a home theater PC setup. I run Plex on the Mac. When I shut down the theater, I turn off the projector and amp, but leave the Mac on. I have it set to never automatically go to sleep, though I do let it spin down the hard disk. I've tried quitting Plex and leaving it running.
My problem is that when I turn the projector and system back on, most of the time (but not always) I get a message from the projector that it's not detecting any signal. I can ssh and remote desktop into the machine, but cannot figure out how to force it to realize a projector is attached. I normally run the projector in 1920x1080 resolution, but when I remote desktop in, I can see that it's defaulted back to 1680x1050 resolution.
I've tried 'kill -HUP' to the WindowServer process, but that also doesn't help.
Any ideas of something I can do to force the mac to realize a projector is connected? Cmd-line, applescript, or a Mac app would all be fine. I never noticed this issue when I was running Leopard.
    thanks!

Hi, the problem still persists for me. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the DVI cable from my MacMini, and that at least causes it to send something to my projector, but it's a bad signal that my projector can't display.
Are there any command-line tools for figuring out what's happening with the display output? Are there any ways I can force a full re-detect? If no to both of these, what's the right way to file a bug that an engineer at Apple would read (other than emailing friends who work there)
    thanks again!

  • ITunes 10.4 on Snow Leopard doesn't have AirPlay button any more

I just updated my iTunes and now I can't find AirPlay button, which use to be on the bottom on the window.

  • Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard doesn't access wirelessly my HP C6380

    Hello
I bought a all-in-one wireless HP C6380 printer and I can't get my Mac to access it. I have read that I shouldn't load the software that comes with it as S.L. has it already installed so I didn't. I've tried to access the device via image capture; no joy. I can't print or scan with my Mac but I have no issues with a Dell I have. I know the printer is connected to my network. Does anyone have any ideas?

Did you go to system preferences>print and fax and add the new printer?
Did you have another printer previously? Did you delete it?
Also, SL has the drivers, but not the rest of the utilities and such that are for your printer from the HP site.
