Snow Leopard & exchange mail questions

I have some questions before upgrading to Snow Leopard... any help is GREATLY appreciated!
1. Do I need to buy a separate upgrade for each of my Macs?
2. Exchange mail: What qualifies as "exchange mail". I really need to be able to sync my business e-mail (calendars would be great too) on all of my devices (the office iMac, wifes MacBook, my windows mobile PDA, and soon to come my new MacBook Pro). Currently I have created an e-mail account for each device, and forward mail from my main account to each devices' account... a flippin' nightmare tracking replies as I'm sure you can imagine... I know there is a better way... PLEASE HELP!!! I have Entourage, but it sounds like I might not need this anymore? My e-mail is POP. Do I need to change where my domain is hosted to a host that offers IMAP so I can make exchange mail work? I really need the business e-mail to be solid and reliable... and synced...

1.) I'm pretty sure you need to buy one update per computer you're updating.
2.) Snow Leopard enables syncing only with Microsoft Exchange 2007 servers. If you connect to a MS Exchange server running the latest and greatest version, it will probably work. My office still runs Exchange 2003, and it does not work for me. (I can still connect via POP and IMAP.) If it does work, it should enable e-mail sync over Microsoft's proprietary Exchange "MAPI" protocol, as well as calendar syncing in iCal, etc.

  • Snow Leopard Server Mail QUESTION!

I am running OS X 10.6.2 and I have a question regarding e-mail functionality. Currently we have an Xserve acting as our mail server then we have a microsoft exchange server in line in order to use connectors to route e-mail based on cost and size. Is there anything we can use to route e-mail straight from the Xserve and take the exchange server out of the picture?

After doing some more research I found that what I am looking to do looks like it can be achieved using postfix transport maps. The only issue I am still having is how to setup postfix transport maps to send mail out via 2 different gateways based on size.

  • Mail 4.2 Snow Leopard Exchange 2007 and Subfolders

    Hello,
I am running Mail 4.2 on Snow Leopard connecting to Exchange 2007. My account seems to be working fine for my INBOX and for sending mail; however, although I am able to see my sub-folders (under my INBOX) none of the contents have been synchronized. They are empty in Mail but when I go on the server my messages are there.
    Please help.
    Thank you,
    Darren

rebuild your whole mail index. quit Mail and delete the file home directory/library/mail/envelope index. start mail and say yes when it asks to import your messages.

  • Copy-and-paste into Snow Leopard's Mail from Parallels 5.0 doesn't work

After upgrading Leopard to Snow Leopard, my Parallels 3.0 application no longer worked. Since I had an invitation to beta test Parallels 5.0, I took advantage of that opportunity.
Since then, there has been a problem "copy-and-pasting" from an Internet Explorer window into an Apple Mail document. Parallels has a new feature that copies text with formatting. What ends up getting pasted into Mail is the text plus about 6 inches of blank space below it. It seems like the text is married to a large graphic element.
Further hints: There's a black "X" in the circle at the upper left of it, and the text+blank_space block has its own vertical and horizontal scroll bars within the Mail document window.
If anyone can suggest a solution, I would be very grateful. If I can send a screen shot of what I'm describing.

OK, then since this isn't related to the OP's issue, I'd suggest you start a new topic in the Quicktime for Mac forum (use the "Post a new topic" link at the top of each main topic page). It's generally better to ask a question as a new topic rather than as a reply in someone else's thread. It's more courteous to the original poster, and is more likely to get your question the attention it deserves.
    Regards.

  • Snow Leopard, Exchange and the never ending quest to check my email

I don't think I'll get the check my email before I graduate. I've been trying for over a year and I still can't get my email to play nicely in the sandbox with my computer. The old Mail didn't work because Exchange wasn't supported... now I've upgraded to Snow Leopard where I was assured by the Apple people and the IT guys that new Mail would work... now however I've discovered that our Exchange server isn't right (something about server pack 4). I would really love to be able to see my email on my computer... does anybody have any creative ideas for accessing Exchange accounts via Mail for Mac?

Make sure you are checking the email address you used to set up your iCloud account.  Check the spam/junk folder as well as the inbox.  If it isn't there, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage your Apple ID, sign in, click on Name, ID and Email addresses on the left, then to the right click Resend under your Primary Email Address to resend the verification email.

  • Will Windows Outlook clients be happy with Snow Leopard Server Mail Server?

Our network at work has a Windows SBS 2003 server - and 40+ XP PCs running office 2003 (and outlook 2003).
Can I set up Snow Leopard Server so that the Outlook 2003 clients will be able to use contacts, calendars and mail etc from the mac (mini) that we would purchase for this?
I'd love to get everyone on Mac here, but we can't cos our core application is windows only and we would still need the MSSQL server. I know - we could install parallels or virtualbox for the windows apps but that is extra expense, and tbh I don't think our users could cope.
    Thanks

    Hi
+"Can I set up Snow Leopard Server so that the Outlook 2003 clients will be able to use contacts, calendars and mail etc from the mac (mini) that we would purchase for this?"+
For mail yes. For calendars you will need 'assistance' using 3rd-party applications or helper utilities. The iCal Admin manual has more details of what is available:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iCalServerv10.6.pdf
Page 12. For Addresses/Contacts consult the Address Book Server Admin Manual for more details:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/AddressBkServerv10.6.pdf
Page 12. I don't see anything specifically listed so you may have to search for these yourself unless someone else posts with something more specific that works?
If you're expecting Exchange-like functionality you will be disappointed. If you really must have the functionality you're used but also want to move to the mac platform a better prospect (IMO) would be Kerio Mail Server:
    http://www.kerio.com/connect
Depending on what other services you may or may not want you may not necessarily need OSX Server? Then again you could as easily install KMS on a Windows or Linux box instead. In which case why swop from Exchange?

  • Snow Leopard-Exchange Server 2003-Entourage 2008 (12.2.1)

+I have one final question before I upgrade to Snow Leopard.+
I currently run a 2.8 GHz Mac Pro, Leopard 10.5.8, Entourage 2008 (12.2.1) using Exchange server 2003. Everything is happy and works well.
I understand that I won't be able to use the new Snow Leopard built-in Exchange Server support.
*But, if I upgrade to Snow Leopard...will everything stay happy with what I've been running?*

There are connectivity issues between Exchange Server 2003 and Exchange accounts in Entourage 2008 running on Snow Leopard. These connectivity issues are also evident via web-based email (Safari & FireFox) on Snow Leopard and Exchange Serve 2003.
You will eventually loose connection to Exchange Server 2003. Restarting your computer will solve the problem temporarily.
POP accounts appear to work fine in this environment.

  • Mail will not delete content of RSS feed in Snow Leopard OSX Mail Update

I have 2 RSS feeds that subscribe to in Safari and read in Mail. When I delete a link in the feed in Mail and they go to the Trash - all of the links reappear when I relaunch Mail ... the same link reappears in the RSS feed. I have deleted the links, quit Mail, re-subscribed to the RSS feed in Safari - but it still happens. It is as if you can never delete the links in the RSS feed. Did not have this problem prior to updating to Snow Leopard. Anyone know whey that is? Or is the RSS feature in Safari just poorly designed and inadequate?

The whole point is to use fewer apps if possible.
That said, anyone know how to copy/export the RSS feed addresses from within Apple Mail?

  • Snow Leopard, iPhoto, Mail - loss of image size option when mailing photos

I just installed Snow Leopard on both my laptop and my desktop. Now I have lost one of the size options when I email images directly from iPhoto. This is a big problem for me, as I have the need to send photos out to colleagues for their review several times per week. Before the new OS, I could choose (from within iPhoto or from within Mail) from these options: small, medium, large, and full-size. "Large" was the choice that almost always worked best for me. Now an image is medium-sized no matter whether you choose medium or large. Small and full-size still work.
If I add images to a mail using the photo browser in Mail (which is less convenient for me anyway), then I lose the titles and descriptions I have added to those images in iPhoto. Not good.
Is there a setting I can change, or is this a bug, or what?
    Help.
    Marion

    Ernie,
It's not the the image size buttons are not available. They are. It's that they don't work correctly. From within iPhoto: choosing "small" gives me a small image; choosing "medium" gives me a medium image; choosing "large" also gives me a medium image; choosing "full" gives me a full-size image. So, there are four buttons, but only three sizes. I need large, and it's the one that's not working.
I am currently experimenting with your export-attach suggestion, and the results are very messy indeed as well as inconsistent. If I export an image as .jpeg and as full-size, and then attach them to a mail, the first problem is that I lose all the titles and descriptions, even though I have chosen to export them. In the past, all the images lined up neatly in the body of the message with titles underneath each one; now the images are all "stuck together" and you must mouse over to get the title info. Thus you can see this info for only one image at a time - inconvenient for my colleagues.
The second problem is that, the size option buttons work for some images and not for others. I tried attaching three files of different sizes: 2.7MB, 5.2MB, and 6.2MB. All four size buttons work for the two larger files, but, once again "medium" and "large" choices both result in the same size image, "medium."
Even if the export-attach option worked correctly, it would involve many more steps and much more time than my former method of sending direct from iPhoto.
I have not upgraded to iLife9. Perhaps the problem has been corrected in it. I was holding out for iLife10, but might go ahead with 9 if I could be assured it would work. This is really a huge problem for me.
    Thanks,
    Marion

  • New Snow Leopard install, Mail not working

I installed Snow Leopard in my late 2006 iMac yesterday. It has gone through all of its updates now. When I try to open Mail it gives me the error message, "You can't use this version of the application Mail.app with this version of Mac OS X. You have Mail.app 3.6."
I would have thought that the install would have installed the appropriate version of Mail, but something's up. Suggestions?

Hi, I recently upgraded my iMac to OS X Snow Leopard. Now Mail won't launch. The pop-up message says I can't use this version of Mail with this version of OS. I have Mail 3.6. How do I upgrade Mail?

  • IOS & Snow Leopard Server Mail, Contacts, Calendars Account

Is there any way to add a single IMAP/Cardav/Caldav account in iOS 5, or OS X 10.6/10.7 that goes back to Snow Leopard Server? Adding each type of account works, but it'd be cleaner if I could setup one account with multiple services like I can with Exchange, iCloud, MobileMe, Yahoo, etc..
    Anyone have an idea?

This is the problem I'm trying to describe.  It is now happening multiple times every day.
Any advise would be appreciated.  The problem is the accounts are being de-accessed.

  • I currently have leopard and I want to upgrade to snow leopard. My question is will I lose my documents on my desktop after I do the upgrade?

    Please help

Not if you make a backup first.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
Be sure to repair your hard drive and permissions before upgrading:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
