Snow Leopard Firewall Ports Needed

Is there a document that contains all of the ports needed for iCal Server, Address Book Server, and all of the other mobile services? The documentation says to check the resources however, I have not been able to find anything specifically from apple.
Thanks!
Jeff

I had the same problem as you, by the sounds of it. When I installed Snow Leopard Server on a mini, it went through the motions of configuring the attached Airport base station NAT settings to support the services I had turned on. Unfortunately, that configuration either didn't stick, or the Airport lost the settings in the restart. Here's where I posted a question about this experience: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10318987&#10318987
Like you, I've been redirected to that "well know" list on several occasions, but it doesn't quite answer the question we both seem to have which is: +If Snow Leopard Server had successfully configured the NAT port settings on my Airport router, what would that configuration look like?+ Or, put in other terms: +What are just the ports I need to open on my Airport router to adequately support my installation of Snow Leopard Server?+
Of course, it all depends on what services you have enabled, so it would be helpful if the list could be broken down by service type.
Yes, the sure would save wading through that massive "well know" ports list to find just the few you need to manually configure the Airport...

I have a MacBook pro on snow leopard - do I need to get lion prior to changing to iCloud ?

You can migrate to iCloud whilst still using snow leopard, but you will not be able to sync your calendars and contacts on your Mac.
If you are asking whether you should get Lion before or after migrating to iCloud, it really doesn't matter, but I think I would prefer to get it before migrating to iCloud .

  • I have a Mac os x version 10.5.8 and I want to clear it what snow leopard do I need

Please can you tell me what version of snow leopard I would need if I want to clear my mac osx version 10.5.8 ?

You don't need Snow Leopard to clear your Mac.
As long as you have an Intel Mac you can use any Snow Leopard DVD to erase your disk and install.
Perhaps backup your Mac to an external disk first.

anybody have a suggestion? I need to find out what my key code is to connect another pc to my airport, I am running snow leopard. I need the hexidecimal code, 12 characters. How can I find it?

You can get the Equivalent Network Password from the menu options of the AirPort Utility as follows:
Start the AirPort Utility; select the AirPort, and then, select Manual Setup.
From the Utility's menu bar, select Base Station, and then, Equivalent Network Password to reveal the hexidecimal key code.

  • Itunes9 on Snow Leopard Firewall always asking to be allowed

Since installing iTunes9 on Snow Leopard I get the "Do you want the application "iTunes.app" to accept incoming network connection" every time I open it! I have clicked "Allow" each time and have made sure to have it listed as "Allow incoming connection" in the Security/Firewall/Advanced Pref pane and it still asks each and ever time I open iTunes.
As far as trying to fix this I have tryed reinstalling iTunes9 and have removed the iTunes entry from the Firewall pref pane, removed iTunes from the start on boot menu, rebooted my Mac, then added iTunes to the Firewall setting, then launched. Still asks every time I open iTunes. Done this and several variations of it several times already to no effect.
In iTunes8 it was set the same in the Firewall settings and only asked me to allow it once the very first time I opened it, after that it was allowed by default and I never saw the pop-up window again asking me to allow it. This is becoming an annoying issue for me and I am wondering if anyone else has this same issue and/or knows a way to permanently set it to be allowed by default.
Any thoughts or ideas as to where I can change the file containing the Firewall settings manually or another way to default allow iTunes again would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
I had this issue, and reinstalling iTunes worked for me - did you remove the iTunes Helper app from your login items before uninstalling iTunes? You need to quit it in Activity monitor first.

  • Snow Leopard Firewall asks to Allow/Deny iTunes 9.0 every time

I'm on 10.6 and just upgraded to iTunes 9.0.
Now every time I open the app the OS X firewall asks if I want to Allow/Deny.
I choose and Allow and it puts iTunes in the Firewall list will Allow. However, it just keeps asking every time the app is opened.
    Any ideas?
I do have an ATV syncing with this machine.

I'm having a similar problem, and once a few large downloads finish I can try the re-install iTunes 9 route. But I'd still like to field my question here. Also, I'm already running 10.6.2:
After turning on Snow Leopard's Firewall, I got the same allow/deny prompt for iTunes when my Apple TV began syncing wirelessly. I haven't been bothered with that prompt after choosing Allow, but Console.app shows this entry every 1-3 seconds:
    11/10/09 1:34:41 PM Firewall[67] Allow iTunes connecting from 10.0.1.198:50189 to port 3689 proto=6
It keeps repeating, over and over and over. Any idea what's going on?

  • Snow Leopard Installation Confirmation Needed...

This may seem like an odd question, but here goes anyway...
I've been experiencing kernel panics for quite some time running 10.6.8 on a C2D 2.16GHz iMac. So today I installed Snow Leopard from a retail package DVD.
I didn't stick around to watch the entire installation process; I was sitting at another desk working on my MacBook Pro. But eventually the iMac spit-out the DVD and restarted. The problem?  When I checked "About This Mac" it indicated that I was running 10.6.8; the retail DVD is not 10.6.8. As far as I can tell from the box it is 10.6, which makes sense because I purchased it right after SL was introduced.
I had downloaded the 10.6.8 Combo Updater expecting to run it after the iMac restarted into 10.6. The installer package was sitting on the Desktop.
When I checked the iMac drive I found a "Mac OS X Install Data" folder that wasn't there before the installation. It mainly has what appear to be installer packages for printer drivers and various Apple software as well as a few data files. But I don't see an installation log. I also could not find an old System Folder in the Trash.
So was a new System actually installed? Did the installer somehow update 10.6 to 10.6.8? Or did the installation fail for some reason without an error message? How can I confirm a successful installation of Snow Leopard?

  • Tiger 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard - Do I need to erase tiger first?

I have the Snow Leopard box set and I'm about to install it. But do I need to erase Tiger first? If so how?
I don't want to install Leopard alongside Tiger obviously, I want to replace it. Will the disk do this automatically?

Whatever you do leave yourself a way to get back to where you started to cover the possibility that your Sno install doesn't go well. In this regard, I would have a bootable clone on an external drive for use in installing Sno and recovering from a bad Sno install.
I still prefer an erase and install, although the upgrade process is very acceptable too. Really, just do whichever your prefer.
If you do an erase and install, then you can restore everything from the bootable clone (if you make one) at the end of the installation--users, settings, data, and apps. In this regard, I would not plug the external in until the last install restartup. If you do an upgrade installation, then all you users, settings, data, and apps should be in place at the end of your installation.
Be sure you are connected to the internet while installing. Doing so will will help getting connect to your network, the internet, and MobileMe (if pertinent).

  • I just moved from a G5 PowerMac to a Mac Pro with one drive running Yosemite and one running Snow Leopard, Do I need Lion to be able to upgrade iPhotos

How can I see my iPhotos from a G5 PowerMac on a MacPro running Yosemite and Snow Leopard? Is Lion a more advance system that Snow Leopard?

The last iPhoto version you can run with Snow Leopard is iPhoto 9.2.4, and Yosemite needs iPhoto 9.6.
Move your photos to your Yosemite partition, if you want to use iPhoto with Photo Streams and other iCloud features.
As you are asking about Lion, you can run iPhoto iPhoto 9.2.3 or iPhoto 9.2.4 both with Lion and SnowLeopard, but there is no iPhoto version, that runs both on Yosemite and Snow Leopard, or Lion and Yosemite.

  • When i upgrade to snow leopard do i need to buy a version specific to my macbook air

when i upgrade to snow leopard from leopard do i need to buy a version specific to my 2008 macbook air

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can use the Snow Leopard version that is used for all Macs > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard#
Make a backup before upgrading. Also, as you have a MacBook Air, it hasn't got a SuperDrive, so you have two options to install Snow Leopard:
    1. Use DVD or CD sharing from a different PC or Mac, as stated in the Snow Leopard installation steps > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Snow_Leopard_Installation_Instructions.pdf
    2. Get an external DVD drive and use it to upgrade to Snow Leopard.
I recommend you to get an external disc drive, so installation will be faster. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install the latest version

  • When I upgrade to Snow Leopard, do I need to reinstall all of my programs?

When I upgrade to Snow Leopard from OS x 10.4.11, do I need to reinstall all of my programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite?

I, like you, did an upgrade from 10.4 to 10.6 on my iMac. It was the simplest ever upgrade! Everything was left intact. It really just changed the System Software. I did need to go in and change some preferences to my preferences, but that was about it.
I speak from experience, rather than trying to pass myself off as an expert.
If you can, get a copy of "The Missing Manual" for Snow Leopard. It covers the upgrade as well as other features of 10.6

    Hi ,
May I know what ports need to be open at the firewall in order the TED
    distribution to be working properly.
I suspect it is firewall problem because the inventoried server which

  • Snow Leopard install disc needed? or can copy be bought online?

So I am currently running Leopard on my MBP and I want to get Snow Leopard to get Lion.
But do I have to order the disc from apple and get a physical copy? or can I purchase it and download a copy online?
    Thx

    Apple store ... http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A
And get a good bootable CarbonCopyClone or SuperDuper backup when SL is stable ... helps if Lion does not suit your needs and you want to go back to SL.

  • New Snow Leopard server problems -need advice.

hello everyone. I just setup a mac pro with Snow Leopard server to replace our G5 which was setup up for simple file sharing as a fake server and am having several challenges listed below:
*I've made sure the new computer running SL server has the same local name and IP address as the previous G5 (now off of the network)
    - Our windows (Vista) computer cannot see the server on the network. This was not a problem with the G5 and SMB filesharing.
    - I cannot access server preferences due to this error: "Unable to set node credentials for /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 with the record name server.mydomain.com$ There may be a problem with the Open Directory service."
    - server admin is treacherously slow both locally and remotely.
I cold really use some help on these folks. I'd sincerely appreciate it.

Thanks for your input everyone. I turned off DNS (just to see) and it's still slow. Frankly I am not sure if I even need it yet. My goal is only to setup local services and then open the server up to the WAN.
My provides the DNS I suppose. MY ISP points to my WAN IP and my router directs that to my server's internal IP. At least that's how things are setup now and left over from when i was using Snow Leopard client as a fake server (for filesharing and DayLite).
I did setup the initial DNS settings of Snow Leopard Server after the install to the computer's IP address which I assigned manually and left the rest to get from my router's DHCP server. I setup the zone (home.mydomain.com)
    Any ideas for the sluggishness.
