Merci !

  • Snow Leopard Incompatible with Adobe

I received one of the first iMacs pre-loaded w/ SL, only to find out Lightroom is incompatible and won't install. After spending several hours on the phone with Adobe and Apple Tech Support, they confessed that they are not sure what software will work with the new OS, and have no timeline when non-functioning softare will be made compatible. My assumption is none of Adobe's Creative Suite is compatible, although I'm not going to spend any more fruitless hours on this project. Apple's final solution is to send me a 10.5 Leopard disk to install and see if that will work. As a former Windows user, this smells exactly like Windows Vista / XP...

The most current version of Lightroom is 2.4 I believe and it runs in Snow Leopard as do both CS3 and CS4 and I'm sorry you've not been getting straight answers but that is, unfortunately, the nature of Adobe's relationship with Apple and the software company's careful use of language to avoid saying anything that it might be held to later.
Adobe officially says CS3 is not supported for SL but it runs and I think it actually runs better on Snow Leopard than Leopard. Adobe wants you to upgrade to CS4 so, in my opinion, the company is using language to scare you away from CS3. Adobe talks about a Snow Leopard version of CS4 being delivered sometime in the near future but that doesn't mean the program currently doesn't work. It does. The company is merely engaged in CYA and tweaking Apple's nose.
Now having said all this, you need to know that Adobe products often need to be uninstalled and reinstalled to work properly. Adobe doesn't follow Apple's rules and those are the consequences for us. Actually I was rather surprised to discover that Photoshop and InDesign (CS3 versions) didn't need to be reinstalled after I installed Snow Leopard but LightRoom did.

  • MacBookPro 1.83GHz Airport Snow Leopard Incompatible

Installed Snow Leopard on my MacBookPro G Hz Thursday and Airport would not switch on. Re installed Leopard 10.5.8 and all is fine. Beware.

If you have the same error :
    Dyld Error Message:
      Symbol not found: _kCFWebServicesProviderDefaultDisplayNameKey
      Referenced from: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Safari.framework/Versions/A/Safari
      Expected in: /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreFoundation.framework/Versions/A/CoreFoundation
then it shows that System files are missing/damaged, & of course, a new account will have identical problems.
The file mentioned in the report above, is included in the 10.6.8 combo update - so it's possible that installing that will replace it, although there could be other problem files too.

  • SNOW LEOPARD MAIL - INCOMPATIBLE PULGIN

After i updated to snow leopard its saying ing the mail app (first time ive launched it since update last night)
    it says:
    Incompatible Plug-ins Disabled
Mail has disabled the following plug-ins:
    MailUnreadMenu
Contact the makers of these plug-ins for versions that are compatible with Mail 4.1 and Message 4.1.
..i dont need this plug in and i thought i deleted it shortly after i installed it so i was wondering is someone could tell me where to find it so i can fully uninstall it.
Also i am trying to delete alot of stuff that i dont need like plug-ins and stuff that i thought was pretty neat when i first got a mac but i really dont need.
so i was wondering aslwell if someone could tell me what folders to look in for things i probably dont need.
    ALSO
    in
    user/library/application enhancers/
there is a folder called menu master.ape
i heard APE's were bad and could give you the blue screen of death when you boot your mac up so i would like to know what this menu master.ape is and if i can delete it.
    thanks.

As to the first question about Mail plugins, open Home/Library/Mail and locate the folder named Bundles. You can remove that entirely if you do not wish to retain any of them.
I can't comment on the APE with any experience, but I suspect you could merely delete that folder. If is ever recreated, we will have to look further.

  • Virgin Mobile Broadband incompatible with Snow Leopard?

*Has anyone had this same problem?*
After I installed Snow Leopard, it was not compatible with some of my software (specifically: Virgin USB Mobile Broadband) and I ended up having to revert to Leopard 10.5.8. It seemed there was nothing else I could do as the software would not work at all on the new OSX. It just kept crashing. As it is my internet software and the only access I have to the net from my Macbook, I wasn't able to gain access to the net to try and get an update or a fix from the Virgin Site, or Apple.com.
Does anyone have any idea when things like this will be ironed out In Snow Leopard? As I don't want to reinstall it knowing that my internet software will be incompatible again.
    *Thanks heaps in advance. Soph*

The software installed as part of the virgin mobile broadband is coded to look for a 10.5.* or less. It crashes when it finds 10.6.*
As a work around i installed the huawei driver and manually configured the APN and dialup preferences and it worked fine and used far less CPU time
When i called Virgin tech support they were pretty vague and said that a hotfix should be available in a few weeks!!

  • Installed Snow Leopard and my mail is not incompatible (3.6)

I don't seem to be able to find any updates to the mail program anywhere!
My husband installed Snow Leopard last night, I get up this a.m. to open and read mail and there is an error message indicating that the current 3.6 Mail version is incompatible.
What do I do to access my mail now?
Can't even read any responses via mail because I can't get to it!

OK - I finally figured it out.
Go to Finder, Applications, click on Mail application.
    It should auto-update after clicking.
It would have been nice if there was some type of indication on the box for the Snow Leopard on what to do to update/upgrade current software (versus having to do it manually)!

  • Snow Leopard, Acrobat files and ebook conversion: Incompatible?

A publisher I'm working with tells me that Snow Leopard now makes it impossible to create PDF files without CID fonts (either directly from InDesign, for example, or by distilling PS files)--and that such PDFs with CID fonts are incompatible with any of the e-book conversion services and any standard search-inside-PDF technologies. They tell me they will have to build PDFs from InDesign files using older tools in order to meet the requirements for e-books.
I've been unable to find any discussion of this issue by Googling various key terms--finding only some outdated info re cid fonts and problems with non-Adobe PS printers/rasterizers some years ago.
Can anyone shed light on this?

    Thanks, Marcus and Jeremy.
I talked further with my production manager, and can clarify the issue a bit.
The problem with inclusion of CID fonts is that ebook conversion tools in use today drop any paragraph containing them. (The typical production path would be to produce PDFs for the printer, then mine the same PDFs to produce ebook versions.)
Why the various producers of these tools ignored the existence of CID fonts, which, as Adobe points out, have been part of the PostScript language definition for over 10 years, escapes me.
The manager reports that his IT head had a several-hour discussion with Adobe re this issue, with the result that it seems that there is no workaround at the moment.

  • HT3258 My 'Incompatible Software' folder was empty after 10.6 (Snow Leopard) install (upgrade)_

After installing Snow Leopard (10.6.3) over my 10.5.8 OSX, my 'Incompatible Software' folder was empty, save for a Read Me.rtf file that had no application-specific details inside.  So does this mean I had NO incompatible software?  I have the following apps:
    Adobe Creative Suite CS3
    MS Office 2008
    Finale 2009 (music notation software)
ProTools LE appears to be missing, but is not listed in the Incompatible Software folder
FYI - Adobe Illustrator quit when I opened a file for the first time. Seems to be working now.

It sounds like you didn't have any incompatible.  You should be good to go.

  • HP Color LaserJet 2840 Incompatible with MAC OS 10.6 Snow Leopard

The printer defaults to "pause" when attempting to print. Clicking "resume printing" does not unpause the printer. I spent one hour with Apple tech support yesterday with no resolution.
I removed the printer from System Prefs, then reinstalled, but that did not resolve the issue.
HP tech support advised designating "Generic PostScript Printer" in the Print Using box when then adding the printer, but it still defaults to "Pause" when attempting to print anything.
No problems with the Canon Pixma.
    Advice would be much appreciated.
    Message was edited by: biddymon

Upon upgrading to Snow Leopard, I could print but could not scan. Deleted all existing printers that pointed to my CLJ 2840. Uninstalling and then reinstalling the 10.5 drivers resulted in a dialog box that stated there was a problem installing /System/Library/Extensions/hpcolor_lj_2800series.kext
The printer was not automatically found, and could not be manually added via HP Setup Utility. I decided to fix the problem with the kernel extension (kext).
I opened a terminal and ran the command
    sudo kextutil /System/Library/Extensions/hpcolor_lj_2800series.kext
which informed me that there were problems with the permissions on that kernel extension. I then ran the commands
    cd /System/Library/Extensions
    sudo chown -R root:wheel hpcolor_lj_2800series.kext
    sudo chmod -R g-w,a-w hpcolor_lj_2800series.kext
and then rebooted and that seemed to do the trick.
The only thing that doesn't work now is the Fax fuctionality. the URL for the fax is set to "file:///dev/null", which doesn't seem productive at all. I'll post when I discover anything there.

  • Acrobat 9 seems incompatible with Snow Leopard

Got my Snow Leopard late this afternoon and have had great luck with it so far (did an upgrade, not a clean install)...except for Acrobat 9. Ugh! Attempting to print to PDF via Adobe PDF 9.0 printer/driver causes the printer/driver to fire up and the progress windows indicates that distiller launches, but after that, the prompt for where to save the PDF to never appears and the file in the print queue disappears. Checking the log file shows quite a few errors are happening:

I've done a full uninstall and cleaned out all files, then reinstalled. I did the old repair/restore trick from the Help menu. I even tried printing to PDF after each patch/upgrade all the way to the latest version. No luck at all. And yes, all other CS4 apps I have work fine.
    Any suggestions?

Hi all, things are still working for me. [Edit: not quite, see below.]
I've just successfully used the Save as Adobe PDF option from three different apps (current versions of Numbers, TextWrangler, Word), using both Standard and PDF-X options selected from the dialog box when printing.
I'm on an early 2008 MacBook Pro, OS 10.6 and Acrobat Pro 9.1.3 (I guess those last two are pretty clear).
Oh, wait, here's a new error.
Save as Adobe PDF quit unexpectedly while using the Adobe BIB plugin.
This error occurred when I selected Save as Adobe PDF from Safari while composing this message. I selected Press Quality from the printing options. I've just tried printing at Standard quality, and that works. In fact, Press Quality is now working again too!

  • Nokia E71 plugin incompatible with iSync 3.1.0 / Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6.1)

After upgrading to Snow Leopard the calendar sync has stopped working towards my Nokia E71.
However, when disabling the calendar sync option , the contacts are syncing just fine.
I wonder if there'll be a fix for this in the near future? When contacting Nokia support, they tell me to contact Apple, because Apple are making the E71 plugins for iSync.... (is this really true?)
Have tried "everything" in the Apple support site. The only result from that was that after resetting the sync preferences via Sync Diagnostics, the whole sync process crashes midway.

It's more than likely some corruption has occurred in one or more of your calendars. iSync Plugins that worked in Leopard should continue to work in Snow Leopard.
Only sync individual calendars until you find the one that causes the sync to fail. Then export that calendar from iCal (File > Export), delete it from iCal and re-import (double click the exported .ics file). This often fixes corrupt calendars.
Apple are making the E71 plugins for iSync.... (is this really true?)
No. Nokia make the plugins that they provide from their site. Apple make the iSync application.
