Snow Leopard isn't loading onto my computer properly

I have tried like 3 times to load this software onto my Macbook Pro and it just isn't loading, it goes through the whole 3 hour long process & then when it's done, nothing. I know this becasue when I go to download the new Itunes it tells me I need 10.6 or later.  I really just need it so I can load the new Itunes so I can actually have music on my new IPod. I don't even know what operating system I have on this, It was bought in Nov 2008.

You mean the OS on the Macbook Pro.
Go to Apple    > about this Mac > and the OS Version will be found there.
As far as loading 10.6 Snow Leopard is concerned.
Before buying anything you should first make sure your machine will accept the upgrade you have in mind.   Pay attention to your memory.
Minimum specs for Snow Leopard.        Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard -Read the Technical Specifications Before you start upgrading, back up your files
Once you have upgraded to Snow Leopard you will need to apply the Combo updater.   Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1  and follow with a software update to pick up any later improvements.
Good luck

  • I just loaded osx snow leopard 10.6.3 but my computer states I'm at 10.5.8 version.  Now I can't install iLife because it's not 10.6.3.  Don't get it?

I just loaded Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3.  My computer now states it's 10.5.8 not 10.6.3.  So, now I cannot download my iLife.  What am I doing wrong?

    Some questions for clearification:
Does "I just loaded..." mean you attempted to update your 10.5.8 to 10.6.3?   Did you have 10.5.8 to start with?  Did you use the proper updaters?  Did you update another drive and accidentally booted from your 10.5.8 drive?

The hard drive on my Mac Book Pro failed last week.  I just put a new Samsung SSD in this thing and had to load the Snow Leopard OS that came with the computer.  I had Mt. Lion on the old drive that I had purchased last year but no boot disc made.  I have made several attempts to get the Mt lion soft ware on the computer but the Apple store does not have it only mavericks but my Snow Leopard version is too old for it so I cant get it either.  How do I get something to run the software that I had on the old drive?

Unfortunately I lost my life and am trying to rebuild.  Isn't the technical era great.
    Backup, backup, backup
As a minimum, use 3-2-1 (or even more)
3 copies of your data (original copy counts as 1)
2 different backup utilities/storage formats (protects from bugs in the software)
1 copy off-site (protects against theft, fire, and natural disaster)
More backup copies are even better.
Backup disks are cheap compared to the lost of personal data that does not exist anywhere else.

  • Upgraded from tiger to snow leopard, can I go onto lion?

I have recently upgraded from tiger (I think) to snow leopard, can I go onto lion?
I have a imac 17" 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, I think I bought it in 2007, I don't use it for much but a bit of browsing storing photos and music and maybe a couple of documents.
I have been told by some that if I go to Lion it would be a risk and slow the computer down, so just wondering what you all think.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rossi

According to unofficial sources, you can upgrade to 4GB RAM. I've done the same in my late 2006 iMac 20" which is offically upgradable to 3GB, but I stuck 2 x 2gb modules in anyway (mainly as I had one spare from my MPB). It's dead easy to do, I'm in the UK and bought Crucial memory which I've always trusted.
I believe the Mac will still only use about 3.3GB of the available 4GB RAM, however some people have reported better performance as both modules are the same size and this helps.
Probably worth getting 2 x 2GB given it's not that expensive. You can always keep your old RAM incase anything goes wrong.
I'd do this regardless of upgrading to Lion or not, the extra RAM will help.
BTW, regardless of a lot of the negativity, I love Lion, it speeded up my other 2007 MBP like it was a new machine. The iMac seems okay, although that is showing a few signs of some graphics glitches, but I don't think this is anything to do with Lion, more about overheating.
Best thing to do, is to clone your existing system (using Disk Utility or SuperDuper or CopyCloner) so that you can boot off that or restore it at anytime without losing anything of your setup.
Then clean install Lion (there are instructions about on how to do this, and create a bootable USB key). You can then migrate back your user settings from your clone to the Lion install. Or just upgrade Snow Leopard. Depends on whether you believe in fresh installing everything.
If you don't like Lion, or it's slow or whatever, you can always restore your snow leopard system from the clone.

  • I have installed Adobe packages and cannot find the Acrobat extension folder please advise how can I get these applications to load onto my computer?

I have installed Adobe Creative Cloud for teams CC Packages which says that Acrobat XI Pro is installed. Your support page says it does not install Acrobat and I have to look in the Extensions folder for an MSI file.  I have run a number of searches and  cannot find the Acrobat extension folder please advise how can I get these applications to load onto my computer?
Also I now administer the teams and have accepted the invitation to I received to be a team member and download the apps.  The admin page shows that I have been sent an invitation but does not show my account as "ACtive" unlike my other team members.  I tried to use the link in the invite to accept it become active but the link displayed an error saying I had already accepted the invite... why is no account not active?
Finally what other product downloads in Creative Cloud do not actually download as part of the Creative cloud Packager for downloading the apps? e.g. acrobat and what else?

My apologies Eadeszoo I believe our support agents are unavailable on January 1.
Are you able to copy the contents of the DVD to your computer?  Are you receiving any particular error messages when you are trying to install?  Finally which operating system are you using?

  • "Snow Leopard cannot be installed on this computer"

I have a 2008-2009 mac book pro (The kind that's all silver, no black), It's currently running 10.5.8. I have a snow leopard disk, and the computer sees it. Then when I go to start begin the installation I get "Snow Leopard cannot be installed on this computer." I want to upgrade and I don't want to just go ahead of myself and screw up my macbook, so please give me a hand some one?.
    Thanks

Just wanted to share with you 2 more reasons it might be.  Tech support was going for the hard drive set up being old.  That was one reason they wanted me to reformat.  So a few more ideas to throw in here.  You can go here and read it.

dear apple, can you please tell me how to put my 'x' key back onto the computer properly without giving me an answer which will make me want to buy a pc like 'we WILL only replace the entire keyboard'?

My profile does say level 1 (0 points) quite obviously pointing out i am a noob at this, although i did try to correct myself in the previous responce to **macbook.
I am confused why you think i havn't answerd michaels question though. 'I assure you the keyboard or the joining parts aren't broken and if it isn't broken i dont feel the need to replace it. '- that was me in the first responce explaining why im not buying a new one, answering the very question he asked.

  • Snow leopard will not load on MM 3,1

Trying to get (X.6) Snow Leopard to load on my son's Mini 3,1
but it keeps saying Snow leopard can not be installed.
    Trying to upgrade from 10.5.8
Documentation says X.6 should load on any intel computer, and the mini is a core duo.
    Any suggestion are appreciated.
    AJ

    Thanks for responding Sven.
Actually, it is from my other sons newer 2.4 ghz mac mini.
You would think it would work being another mac mini.
Looks like I might have to purchase the retail. Sheeezzz
I miss the everything goes old days. : )
    Thanks for your help,
    AJ

  • Snow Leopard won't load.

My sister has a MacBook with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. She has udated the OS. She tried to Upgrade to Snow Leopard using disk and got the message that is will not work on this computer. Woud it be better to download the Snow Leopard OS from Apple and try to load it? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Tech Specs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...

  • Snow Leopard will not load or install

    I need lots of help.
Bought the Snow Leopard Box Set.
Load the DVD only to have it eject after it spins 3 times.
Cleaned the optical drive, tried other cds and dvds - they work.
Even loaded the iWork DVD from the box set - that loaded but wouldn't install.
Was told to download the Combo Update from Apple. Have the .dmg file sitting on the desktop but that won't install.
    Repaired permissions.
Tried it all again, same result.
Don't have the original start up discs - anyway to erase the HD with out them and then do a clean install?
Any and all advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mark

Were you having any issues with your computer before you decided to purchase Snow Leopard? It is my observation on these forums that people are sometimes motivated to buy SL because they are having issues with their current setup.
You say you downloaded the Combo Update but it won't install. Exactly what Combo Update are you talking about? Surely you are not talking about the Snow Leopard Combo Updater, right?
It is certainly possible your problem is simply you have a bad SL install disc. You wouldn't be the first. Where did you buy the SL Box Set? Does Montana even have an Apple Store?

  • I have a macbook pro with no OS, original install discs and internet recovery is not working.  Can I purchase an OS (like snow leopard) and install that onto macbook?

I have recently purchased a macbook pro 2011 that does not have original install discs.  The macbook does not currently have an OS and internet recovery does not work.  Am I able to purchase an OS like Snow Leopard that actually has a disc and install it onto this macbook?

Does your Mac meet the hardware specs for Snow Leopard?

    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space

  • I need to upgrade my old macbook (2006?) but Snow Leopard isn't compatible.

I am operating OSX 10.5.8. The processor is a 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and I've been told Snow Leopard is not compatible with this processor.
At least that is what is stated in the previous discussion:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18003195#18003195
Any advice on how to upgrade?

You might want to increase your RAM. The model 3,1 (Late 2007) can use 6gb of 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM. These are good online stores for Mac compatible RAM
    OWC 667Mhz RAM
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/ - They offer Mac tested RAM at very good prices.
Crucial Memory http://www.crucial.com/ - good place to buy RAM from all over the world. They also have an excellent memory selector that allows you to choose memory based on your computer's model
Data Memory Systems http://www.datamemorysystems.com/apple-memory.asp - another good, cheap place to buying RAM if you live in the U.S.
Here are instructions on replacing RAM in a MacBook with a removable battery. http://homeoffice.consumerelectronicsnet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=44404
If you don’t have the tools to open up the MacBook OWC has a set for $5.

  • How can I move Snow Leopard mail POP messages on one computer to a Mountain Lion Computer

After seeing my iPad3 up close, my friend bought one so he could read his email while watching TV downstairs.  But that's when we discovered his iMac was processor-limited and couldn't accept LION (and the CLOUD)...  In an effort to "get a computer on the cloud", he bought a used Lion-capable computer and attempted to use his Time Machine to bring the newer computer up to speed.  All's well, except that he can't seem to move several hundred old (but important) messages to the new computer.  Appears that the Snow Leopard backup on Time Machine can't do the job.  I'm embarrassed that I didn't catch the failure to put iCloud on his computer and am a tad bit frustrated trying to get my arms around the problem...  Need some help.

    Some things to try:
    1. Go to Applications>Utilities>Migration Assistant and try remigrating the User Account with the mail messages from the Time Machine backup.
    OR
    1. On the old computer, copy the contents of the Mail folder (Library>Mail) for the user to a USB memory stick or similar. On the new computer, select and drag the contents of the Mail folder to the Trash. DO NOT EMPTY THE TRASH!
    2. Quit the Mail program on the new computer.
    3. Use the files on the memory stick to replace the files you dragged to the Trash in Step 2.
    4. Launch the Mail program on the new computer.
    5. If the program doesn't work "correctly" or starts doing unexpected things, use the files that are in the Trash to replace the files you copied over in Step 3.
