SNOW LEOPARD & MOBILEME SYNC

Does anyone know if this sync issue has been fixed? Apparently new upgrades were initially causing problems with mobileme calendar sync and some calendars were lost?

I haven't had any issues on 10.6.2.

  • How do you get iCal on Snow Leopard to sync with iCloud

My wife has a slightly older intel based iMac running Snow Leopard.  The machine is too old for Lion.  The family has been a long time user of MobileMe and we updated to iCloud when it was released.  This seems to have created a problem with iCal, which can't connect to an appropriate server.  I've tried two different servers that I have found mentioned in forums.
    p06-caldav.icloud.com
    caldav.icloud.com
Neither of these worked.  Does anyone know what the correct server is?  Or has Apple intentially screwed us by deliberately making it incompatible?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
    Rick

Officially you can't sync calendars on Snow Leopard, but there are unofficial workarounds. In addition to the correct server address, you also need the dedicated number for your account.

  • Does anyone else think that the AppleMac group of products are marketed in a greedy way? I have MacBook Pro 10.5.8 and am now told that I have to upgrade to Snow Leopard to sync my new iPad. Of course there isn't enough memory on the MacBook? I'm angry!

Does anyone else think that the AppleMac group of products are marketed in a greedy way? I have MacBook Pro 10.5.8 with Leopard and am now told that I have to upgrade to Snow Leopard so that my system can download the relevant iTunes upgrade to sync my new iPad and get my audiobooks (which don't appear anywhere on the device right now). Of course there isn't enough memory on the MacBook and Snow Leopard costs more also? I don't have financial resources to pay for all the new memory requirement and related upgrades they say I need just to sync my iPad with my purchases.

Thanks for the reply but I already knew this. $20 for Snow Leopard which asks for 5gb free memory. I can only see that I have 4 gb (which I feel is rather a pathetic amount of available memory for any computer). To upgrade this computer's memory will cost another fee (I haven't researched this yet but gather it's more than $20). Then of course I could also be told that the OSX Mackbook Pro that I have can't be memory upgraded - which means I'm being told to buy a new computer - hence my very frustrated last email. I have been given a lovely iPad 2 as a present and now can't sync at all with anything because of this ongoing upgrade nightmare. How on earth am I going to be able to sync my movies, audiobooks etc to this new device??

  • Why won't my iMac (Snow Leopard) iCal sync with both iCloud and iPhone?

No matter how many times I enter all the correct info neither iCloud or iPhone will pick up my entries on my iMac.
Also, there is no iCloud ikon in my preferences for waht that's worth.

Once you enable iCloud, your iPhone will no longer sync properly (or at all) with iCal UNLESS you upgrade to OSX Lion. I tried various techniques yesterday for about an hour to see if I could get all three on the same page, but I could never get it to work. Items would appear in one or two place, but never all three. iCal won't sync at all to iCloud without Lion. This is not a secret: Apple states in its promotional materials that you need Lion to use iCloud on your Mac.
I posted this to another similar question last night, but it needs to be repeated:
This is the kind of thing that I hate, hate, hate about Apple.
Why is it that if I bought a Mac before July of this year, I must pay to upgrade my operating system in order to take advantage of iCloud? Meanwhile, a Windows Vista SP2 user, who bought a new computer in May 2009, already has everything they need on their computer to use iCloud.
Why was it possible for Apple to write a free iCloud Control Panel that was compatible with existing versions of Windows, but Mac users must buy an entirely new operating system?
It's not the price that bothers me – I've already paid for it. But Lion was such a buggy mess and the interface "improvements" so useless that I "downgraded" back to SL. Now I find that I must choose between a terrible operating system and the features in iCloud.
If Apple gave Mac users the same amount of backwards compatibility that it gives to Windows users, people with OSX 10.5 (Leopard) would be able to use iCloud. That's something to think about the next time you go to purchase a new computer.
(P.S. Something else to think about: If you bought a Mac before October 2007 (when OSX 10.5 was introduced), your computer won't run iTunes 10.5 unless you buy an upgrade. But a PC user, who purchased their computer as long ago as Sept. 2004(!), can run iTunes without an OS upgrade.)

  • MobileMe Sync Issues after Snow Leopard Upgrade

After installing Snow Leopard, MobileMe has been acting up specifically with syncing.
I have tried to reset it via the instructions found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1497
I am hoping it will be corrected and stays corrected. If you have the same issues, please let us know.
    Thank you.

This solution has helped some with MobileMe syncing.
    1. Close all programs
    2. Logout from MobileMe in System Preferences > MobileMe.
    3. Run Disk Utility/Repair permissions from your startup drive.
    4. Restart computer.
    5. Login to MobileMe, and reset your sync choices.
    6. Try syncing.
The first sync may take a good while, and you may be ask if you want to merge, overwrite. etc.

  • Syncing iCal on Snow Leopard MBpro with Lion machines

I upgraded my iMac and MBAir to Lion and went on iCloud to sync calendars with my old MBpro which can only go up to Snow Leopard. The two Lion Macs sync fine, but the Snow Leopard one wont sync and in preferences it says my accounthas 'been upgraded to iCloud'. Is there anyway to make the Snow Leopard machine sync through iCloud?
    thanks
    Doug

The official answer is that iCloud requires Lion and you can't sync your calendar with Snow Leopard.
The unofficial answer is that a workaround has been suggested, and has worked at least for some people:
    Go to iCal preferences.
    Set up new account.
    Account Type:  CalDAV
User Name:  Your MobileMe / iCloud email address
    Password:  Your password for above
    Server Address:  p06-caldav.icloud.com
This page give a similar process with some more details which may or may necessary:

I haven't tried any of this and have no idea whether or how well it works. BACK UP YOUR CALENDARS BEFORE PROCEEDING!

I have an iMAC G5 PowerPC (not Intel) running10.5.8.  I sync my iphone to iTunes - but just learned I must have Snow Leopard to do so for my new iPhone 5S.     Yet I can't install Snow Leopard as the G5 is not Intel.   What do I do?  How do I move music and pics?  And keep them synced up as I purchase more?

Sorry, but that is correct. You need Snow Leopard to sync your phone and the latest version of iTunes and you old G5 cannot run that.

  • I can not get imac w/Snow Leopard's address book to sync with ipad 1correctly? I only get about half the contacts?

I have tried repeatedly to get my address book on my imac w/ snow leopard to sync to my ipad 1 correctly and have failed every time. I only get about 1/3 the number of contacts and they don't all even correlate with the ones on the imac. Like one will have full middle name and the other only the initial. I don't know where itunes is getting these contacts but doesn't match those in my address book. I keep telling itunes to replace the contacts on the ipad with those on my mac but it doesnt work. Can't do it with icloud cause snow leopard doesn't support, it still wants to use the non existant mobile me format. Hope someone can help. I added the all amnually once before but they screwed up when I sync each time.

Thanks for your response Ernie. You are correct in that whenever you type a series of letters, Address Book (as it always has) finds every single thing with that combination of letters - Names, businesses, adjectives, people's dogs' names, letters in product serial numbers, etc. This is useful for finding a subject on the Web, or finding all documents related to 'iPhoto' on your Mac, etc., but not useful, quick or convenient when trying to find one person to call in your Address Book (which is what people use Address Book for).
What is DIFFERENT in the Snow Leopard version, is that the ability to type one letter to instantly go to last names with that letter has been removed. Previously, you could easily find 'Bill Tilman' in one second by simply typing 'T'. Now you get every word that starts with T and all the words in the card that have a T in them. If you type out a full name like 'Bill', it finds every person named Bill. No one would ever want to find all their contacts named Bill to call them. You could type out the full last name 'Tilman', but there again you are forced to type out a complete name to do a search. It would actually be quicker to scroll down and find it manually. The ability to type a single letter to find the last name (or business name) of a contact you needed to call, was much quicker and easier than having to type out the entire name.

I have my friends macbook pro here running snow leopard but i cant figure out how to share his dvd drive with mine so i can update my software. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks all

Hi cballa82, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I don't think that is going to work, at least I never got it to work.
If they both don't have Firewire, which would make it easy with his in FireWire target disk mode...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
And yours booted with the option key, then I think your best bet is to pull your HD & put it in his for the install, fairly easy with MBs...

Find the MBs there & click on the Hard Drive link below it/then to see how.

  • Synching Address Book and iCal to iCloud with Snow Leopard

My Macbook Pro is not capable of upgrading to Mountain Lion, as it only has a 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo processor. Ever since Apple retired iDisk over the summer, my Macbook has not been able to sync the Address Book or iCal with iCloud's Contacts or Calendar. I am still running OS 10.6.8. Does anyone know of any way to get Snow Leopard to sync with iCloud?
    Thank you!

I am at work right now and don't have access to my Mac. But I need to as if your Dad is on Windows Active Directory network? I also found these directions for Princeton's 2010 Exchange that might help. Did he set up the Address contacts & iCal Calenders were enabled when setting up the account in Mail?

  • Snow Leopard & exchange mail questions

I have some questions before upgrading to Snow Leopard... any help is GREATLY appreciated!
    1. Do I need to buy a separate upgrade for each of my Macs?
    2. Exchange mail: What qualifies as "exchange mail". I really need to be able to sync my business e-mail (calendars would be great too) on all of my devices (the office iMac, wifes MacBook, my windows mobile PDA, and soon to come my new MacBook Pro). Currently I have created an e-mail account for each device, and forward mail from my main account to each devices' account... a flippin' nightmare tracking replies as I'm sure you can imagine... I know there is a better way... PLEASE HELP!!! I have Entourage, but it sounds like I might not need this anymore? My e-mail is POP. Do I need to change where my domain is hosted to a host that offers IMAP so I can make exchange mail work? I really need the business e-mail to be solid and reliable... and synced...

1.) I'm pretty sure you need to buy one update per computer you're updating.
2.) Snow Leopard enables syncing only with Microsoft Exchange 2007 servers. If you connect to a MS Exchange server running the latest and greatest version, it will probably work. My office still runs Exchange 2003, and it does not work for me. (I can still connect via POP and IMAP.) If it does work, it should enable e-mail sync over Microsoft's proprietary Exchange "MAPI" protocol, as well as calendar syncing in iCal, etc.

  • Have MobileMe account, have 2008 iMac, have rosetta apps, have snow leopard, don't want Lion, have to have iCloud after June?

    Hello All,
I have a MBP running Lion and its fine. I have an iPhone 4, iPad, and a family pack MobileMe account. I have a 2008 iMac that has Final Cut Pro and several other rosetta apps. The iMac is running snow leopard and I don't have any issues to complain about. Since I will be forced to move to iCloud in June if I choose to keep my account I am trying to figure out how to procede with my iMac. I find it annoying that Apple is in a sense forcing MobileMe subscribers to purchase an OS update (Lion $69.00) or at worst a newer computer (Lion will not run on pre-core 2 duo) if we want to "sync" our devices and continue to pay for mobileme services. On top of that, by forcing people to update to Lion to get iCloud, they are forcing people to lose support for any rosetta applications that they have an investment in.
I know about the rosetta install on Lion trick - (installing rosetta on a Lion machine from a snow leopard disc). I was lucky to have a snow leopard disc, so I could install rosetta on my MBP to have support for Final Cut Pro 6.
So, is there any hope of sync services with snow leopard on my iMac while moving my family MobileMe account to iCloud? So far, there seems to be alot of problems with iCloud syncing from what I have read. So in order to keep everything in sync (contacts, iCal, mail, etc.) with iCloud on all my devices (iPhone, MBP, iMac) I will have to buy a Lion install drive for the iMac and re-install rosetta and re-install all those applications as well....
    Any thoughts ?

Consider running your Adobe and AppleWorks software in Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) installed in Parallels in Lion or Mt. Lion:

I'm trying to migrate from mobileMe to iCloud but I have Snow Leopard (the latest version). It looks like Lion is no longer available because Mountain Lion comes out next month (July). The problem is mobileMe ends on June 30th. How can I migrate?
My iphone and my ipad are compatible but when I try to go to icloud on my phone it says to do it on my computer.
I would like to have my calendar, contacts, etc.. all sync like they do now. Is there a way to upgrade before June 30th? If not, will the gap be an issue or will I just be able to buy mountain lion and sync everything?
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you!

You can buy Lion in the App Store now, but move to iCloud now. If you wait to Mountain Lion, you will only have Mail in Snow Leopard, so you will lose syncing unless you use Lion or Mountain Lion. It's up to you

  • HT4759 How to sync if one has Snow Leopard

I upgraded to Lion because I wanted to continue with the "cloud in the sky" access, syncing my calendar, contacts, photos, and especially my documents in iDisk.
Lion was so unstable that I had it removed and the computer restored to Snow Leopard.
Now I can't sync anything but email (and my calendar if I set my homepage to the icloud calendar). I'm so frustrated!
Does anyone have any ideas on how to use the old MobileMe process (that was in place before the Lion/iCloud conspiracy)?
I may as well go back to PC and get a cheap phone.
    Thanks for your help.

You can do that, or you can buy Soho Organizer and use iCloud (contacts and calendars) on Snow Leopard. You can not go back to Mobile Me (which ends on 6/30/2012)

    Question:
When I sync with my iphone I get an error reporting message but the sync still works.  After trying to download 10.6.3 Mac OSX Snow Leopard, this message appears every few seconds as long as Entourage is open.  This continues until I quit Entourage.  How do I turn this message off? I only have one video project that I ever published to iDisk. It didn't have any music or photo files attatched to it, just a few clips stitched together. I can play these clips right now in the Event Library (so I know the source files are on my computer), but strangely, under the Project Library, the project is not there. I'm almost certain that I didn't store the project on iDisk; I just completed the video and published it to iDisk (as a .mov file I think) for family to see. I've tried to figure out how to get iDisk to stop looking for this project to no avail.
I don't know if others have experienced this, but if I click on any project and on the menu bar select Share --> Remove From --> Media Browser... it lists iPod, iPhone, iPad, tv, Computer and MobileMe. Why would MobileMe be an option here? This is the case for any video project I select. Didn't iLife '11 and/or OSX 10.8 remove all mention of MobileMe? I wonder if this is part of the problem too.
Edit: I just removed every project I have from the Media Browser. Still no luck.
