Snow leopard-multi touch gestures

Apparently snow leopard includes Multi-Touch gestures in older Mac models. Does this include the white macbook? And if so what exactly does this mean?

I can confirm that there is no multi-touch gesture support on the trackpad of my Intel Core Duo MacBookPro1,1, which is much newer (only 3.5 years) than the original white MacBook, so East Asian language handwriting is also not possible. Fortunately for me, typing and conversion of Chinese and especially Japanese is very quick, so I don't really need the latter.
I'm not sure which version of the white MacBook you have (you'd have to check the Hardware Overview pane on your Get Info panel displayed by the System Profiler. If there was no multi-touch gesture support at all on your MacBook, there will definitely be no enablement by Snow Leopard. Apparently, people who had only 3-finger gestures on older model portables now have 4-fingure gestures made available by Snow Leopard.

What model computer do you have? some early trackpads will not support all gestures.
Front Row was dropped by Apple in Lion. I beleive it can be recovered from Snow Leopard, I haven't tried it myself.

  • Can you use Mac OS X Lion multi touch gestures in Firefox?

On Wednesday, Apple release the new OS X Lion and there are now Multi Touch gestures using the trackpad. I am able to use those gestures in Safari, but I was wondering if there is a way I can use the multi-touch gestures in Firefox.

This appears to be a problem firefox are aware of and are working on, and with some possible workarounds, see also thread: ''"Back/Forward Gestures do not work in Mac OS X Lion" '' -> [/questions/853020]

  • Multi-touch gestures for opening the tab groups

The regular shortcut for opening the tab groups is Ctrl+Shift+E. I'm wondering if there is a way to assign a multi-touch gesture to do this.
So for example, currently, browser.gesture.swipe.down is set to scroll to the bottom of the page. I love this! However, I don't use it very often and would instead like to reassign this gesture to open up the tab groups. Is this possible with Firefox 4? If not, I think it should be :)
    Thanks,
    Hristo

    Try <b>TabView.toggle</b>

  • Multi-touch gestures suddenly stop working

Hi! I'm having problems with multi-touch gestures in browsers such as Safari, Chrome. Suddenly, 'double tap zoom' stops working during browsers use. Also, when I pinch to zoom, pinch to unzoom stops working. I'm using a MBPR 15" mid 2012, OS X Mavericks. These problems stalk me since Mountain Lion. Only reboot helps, but it doesn't solve the problem.

    Try resetting the PRAM.

  • Multi-touch gestures stop working?

Apple, there is an annoying bug in Mountain Lion that needs to be fixed.  Sometimes when we wake our computers from sleep, multi-touch gestures stop working.  The problem is related to the Dock.  Restarting the dock by typing "killall Dock" into Terminal and hitting return provides a temporary resolution, but the problem will eventually return.  There are several other posts in this forum and others.  Seems like there should be an easy fix to what is the only complaint I currently have with your new operating system.
    Thanks.

Is anybody else having issues with multi-touch gestures not working? ie- pinch to zoom

I was having the same issue with gestures.  The pinch zoom wasn't working but the fwd/reverse to next cut with 3 finger swipe was working.  A workaround is www.magicprefs.com - a free magic mouse/trackpad app.  Under preferences/rotate & pinch - I just added the zoom in/out function & it works.  Hope this helps.

  • What happened to the multi-touch gestures in Finder?

I've updated to Lion last week.  Overall, I think what Apple did was great to the overall experience.  However, my only gripes are in Finder.  What happened to the multi-touch gestures?  The only thing that I can do is flip through files in cover view using two finger swipes.
What happened to the pinch to zoom in and out?  I've seen other posts about this so I'll stop here.  Apple please bring this function back.  I'm tired of moving my mouse to the drag handle.
Secondly, I was using three finger swipes to navigate to the previous and next folder in Finder.   Since two finger is used to flip through cover view, I see why they couldn't extend the back/forward function to two finger swipes as they did in Safari and I know that three finger swipe is used to change desktops.  I wish that Apple was more creative to leave this function in somehow.
Is there a way to bring these functions back to Finder?  These are the functions that I used all the time.

That doesn't explain why they would remove the pinch to zoom in and out.  That is not be used by anything else in finder.  If I'm going through pictures, I would like to zoom in on the images for cover view.
As far as the three figure swipes to go back and forth in finder, I understand why that has been removed.  However, Apple could have implemented the two finger swipe just like in Safari which is sensitive to the acceleration of the swipes.  If you swipe with two fingers somewhat fast, you can go back and forth between previous and next page.  If you swipe with two fingers slowly, you can pan left and right on the same page.
They could have done something to retain the functionality versus taking out the functionality all together.  As of now, these functionalities do not exist.  I'm hoping that something is going to change and we'll have to see what the future brings.

A better solution is to try a number of better, free alternatives. Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
    NeoOffice (free)
    OpenOffice (free)
I use Apple's Pages ($19.99) as well as OpenOffice and have been completely Microsoft - free for over a year now. Life is better without Microsoft.

  • Pros and Cons to "booting" iPad 2 as developer to use multi-touch gestures??

    Just like it sounds...
I have a new iPad 2 that i would like to have more multi-touch gestures and have heard doing this will do it. Also, heard that possibly the new iOS 5 will have it already. So how exactly do i do this and what are the pros and cons.
    thanks,
    John

It should be enabled in iOS 5 later in the year - from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#more :
iOS 5 includes a few new moves and shortcuts to help you get around even quicker on your iPad: Using four or five fingers, swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar, pinch to return to the Home screen, and swipe left or right to switch between apps

  • Why only one multi-touch gesture? (Suggestions for more)

The only multi-touch gesture is for rotating the screen. In having my nano for a week I've found it time consuming to get to where I want in the menus a lot of the time. A few more multi-touch gestures could solve this problem. I'd suggest one that takes you directly to the main home screen and a second that is the equivalent of hitting the "Now Playing" icon. They could be two finger swipe left for home and two finger swipe right for now playing.

    Hello Dustin,
Perhaps you should leave this as feedback to Apple through this link.

  • Can't get multi touch gesture on my ipad

I just downloaded the new iOS 4.3 software on my iPad and I got all the new updated features except the multi touch gesture. Is anybody else having problems and what can I do to get it?

Multi-Touch Gestures on the ipad were part of the original IOS 4.3 beta 1. Apple decided to remove Multi_Touch Gestures from the last two beta's and the final built of IOS 4.3. Multi-Touch Gestures may be a part of the operating system in future releases. the only way to enable Multi-Touch Gestures on the ipad is to be a developer using XCode. If you have Xcode and not a developer there is still a way to enable Multi-Touch but the iPad may suffer problems if your developer creditentals are not put in.
