Snow Leopard not booting after installation in rEFIt triple boot system

Hello,
I have a Core Duo Mac mini, on which I was successfully using a rEFIt triple boot configuration with
Leopard, Windows XP and Linux. After installing Snow Leopard on top of Leopard, Snow Leopard boots directly (without rEFIt showing up) the first time after installation. On the following reboots, rEFIt shows up but when selecting Mac OS, the system shows first the grey screen with the Apple icon, then it shows a grey screen with a "no access" icon and does not make any further progress. I reinstalled several times and at last I even removed rEFIt, but Snow Leopard won't boot anyway.
Can anybody help? Thanks

  • Snow Leopard not working after installation

After successful installation of Snow Leopard on a new internal hard drive (connected through IDE to SATA adapter) in my Macbook (late 2006), it is not working. No icon is clickable, only cursor can move. Please help!

The OSX 10.6.3 was successfully installed from the DVD. This is the screen after booting. But it is frozen. There is no response to clicking any of the icon in the deck or in the menu bar. I can only move cursor. That's all.

  • Snow Leopard- Not booting from start up disk

I am trying to do a clean installation of Snow Leopard on my Macbook. It previously  had Mavericks, I erased everything and inserted the Snow Leopard disk, attempting to reinstall. However I boot from disk holding down "C", and then I receive a "you need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again" message.
I tried booting in "safe mode" but that doesn't do anything.
    Anyone able to help?

If your MacBook shipped with something newer than Snow Leopard, it most likely won't run on Snow Leopard.
In the future, when you post a question to the forum, it's always a good idea to list the model of your Mac.

It would be lovely to know what your talking about. Upgrading from Snow Leopard does not involve discs.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase a redemption code at the Online Apple Store: OS X Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. Use the code to redeem a download of Mountain Lion from the App Store. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

  • Mac Pro will not restart after installation of Lion.  Help!

Mac Pro will not restart after installation of Lion.  Help

    Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Cannot install Snow Leopard over 10.5.8 because "can't boot from" boot disk

    I closed all my apps.
    I ran the installer.
    I agreed the terms.
I am ask where to install Snow Leopard.
Only one disk is available - my boot disk.
It has a yellow triangle on it.
Selecting the disk tells me "Mac OS X cannot be installed on "Macintosh HD", because this disk cannot be used to start up your computer.".
Rebooting and attempting an install direct from CD yields the same results.
My machine is a six month old aluminium MacBook, and the only difference between it in the shop and today is that it has a customer-installed 500GB hard drive and ditto 4GB RAM in it.
    Help.
    Neil.

    Hi Mike,
Sorry you're having the same problem. It's very frustrating! I'm making some noise about it because as a consequence of being in the software biz for years, I keep machines as vanilla and default as possible whilst serving my purposes as best I can - so I hopefully tread a very well worn QA path. That I am suffering problems probably means a great many more are doing the same.
Unfortunately your solution isn't a good one for me - I simply don't have 400GB of space anywhere nearby. I do have Time Machine backup to a Time Capsule so maybe a solution is to do a vanilla install and clean disk and then a restore. I don't fancy this much though.
I can't help feeling that this is a simple defect in the installer disk detection though, that it uses some custom code rather than systemwide routine to detect bootability.
    Neil.

  • Can I dual boot snow leopard and mountain lion if I've installed boot camp on my drive

Can I dual boot snow leopard and mountain lion if I've installed boot camp on my drive

Yes as I said before. If your model Mac came with Snow Leopard and you are now running Mt Lion and have Windows installed in a Boot Camp Partition all you have to do is make the Mt Lion partition smaller, take the free space and make it another Mac partition and you should be able to install Snow Leopard into that partition.
I have Snow Leopard, Lion and Mt Lion installed on my MBP. No Windows in a Boot Camp partition because I run Windows XP in a Virtual Machine on both Lion and Mt Lion.

I have installed an app : Birdfield guide in my iPhone 4. But the app is not working after installation. It shows black screen when opened. I need suggestions to make it work or the reasons for not working.

Yes TeeKnows, try deleting it and download it again. After finished installation if still shows black screen delete it out off 'running apps' by double tapping the home button and swipe it off. If still shows black screen then try fully turning off your iPad (holding the sleep button) and turn back on again.
    I hope I helped

Can you attach a screenshot or link to the instructions you are following?
You are on the 3.6 release and Firefox 7.0.1 is out. You can download and install the latest release from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ if you would like to update now. The 3.6 version will be maintained for a while longer, but you should update when you can.

  • Digital Editions 4.0 will not open after installation on Windows  XP laptop.

Digital Editions  4.0 will not open after installation on Windows XP laptop.  DigitalEditions 3.0 installs and opens fine.  Have tried 4.0 several times.  Removed 3.0 and 4.0, reboot, reinstall 4.0 still will not open.  Error message says Windows has experienced and problem and requires that Digital Editions must be shut down.

Solved my own problem. It was necessary to delete all instances of Adobe Digital Editions in programs and  the registry. After doing so and reinstalling 4.02...., it became available in the "open with" dialogue box and became the default epub reader.
