Snow Leopard Problems - Anyone had any of these issues?

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard my MacBook takes over 3 minutes to start up (seems to hang on the grey apple logo with spinning wheel screen for ages) and a good 40-60 seconds to shut down, this is a big change from Leopard which was faster.
My program Swift 3D no longer renders 3D objects, it's as if the graphics card no longer wants to talk to it when I hit render.
Finder crashes all of the time when accessing other macs on my network at work. Attempting to "Relaunch" Finder which used to fix a lot of system hangs is now useless as Finder quits and doesn't relaunch, clicking on the Finder Icon gives me an error 10810 and the system wont shut down so has to be forced off by holding the power button.
Safari has crashed twice and had to be force quitted, I've never had this and thought Safari was supposed to be more stable.
When plugging into my cinema display at home the icons in the top title bar sometimes stay stuck to the middle and not to the right where they should be, also the desktop icons are scattered all over the place with some overlapping each other.
Opening Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop now takes twice as long and exporting a jpeg from either programs now takes longer than my 4 year old Power PC G5 running Tiger with its 1GB of ram.
My macbook used to be much faster than my Power PC G5 but since upgrading to Snow Leopard the whole system seems slow.
Thanks in advance

Start with creating a new admin user account, logging into it, and seeing if the problems persist. If not, resolve the conflicts in the original account. If so, it's system-wide and reinstalling SL is warranted, followed by installing the update.

  • After installing Snow Leopard problems with using any of my Helvetica fonts

I've never really have a problem with any of apple's products until now.
After installing Snow Leopard I've found problems with using any of my Helvetica fonts,
which is a BIG problem if you work in DTP or print. You CAN'T remove the system version of Helvetica, and replace it with your own anymore.
Also Flash CS4 seems to be a dead duck, as after about 5-6 seconds of loading the program it crashes with a "KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE".

Thanks Tom but the original post title was "Work in DTP, don't install snow leopard", but of course apple were unhappy with the title. I know the issue/problem has been discussed for months, the real problem is that it shouldn't be a problem which everyone has to find work arounds for.
After 4 days of playing about, I've finally got flash CS4 working and Quarkxpress was also a big problem for a few months. Printer description (PPD) files which snow leopard doesn't like, but worked in tiger & leopard.....means I can't use my two A3 inkjets for proofing anymore.
I'm just disappointed by snow leopard

  • Has anyone had any data loss issues when upgrading their OS?

I am upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6 and then to Lion, but I don't want to risk losing photos, music etc.
    Thanks!

You should backup before you do it, then you won't lose anything.

  • Has anyone had any luck returning there iMac w/ Lion? I couldn't even reconnect back to the iternet tonight w/o restarting my new iMac....  Looks like folks have been having this problem for months

Has anyone had any luck returning their iMac w/ Lion? I couldn't even reconnect back to the iternet tonight w/o restarting my new iMac....  Looks like folks have been having this problem for months & months .. The Apple tech told me that all I could do is wait for Apple to come up with a fix... Got a new router this week so that isnt' it.  Would I be better off w/o this until Apple gets their act together?  I downloaded the combo update 10.7.3 & it helped for about a day...  yesterday I still had to manually reset the connection but now it's resorting back to disconnectiong w/o fully going into sleep mode first.  Sorry to say this is a major lemon.  Help!

Seems unfair... I thought I was probalby having a router problem...  got a new router this week. Thst's when we realized we have a computer problem.  My next door nieghbor got zero sleep staying up all night while trying to help us figure out what the problem could be. He said if it were him he would have returned the iMac / Lion.  Got the new iMac w/ Lion for Christmas but didn't realize until this week that Apple is the problem....  Hard to believe that Apple just has kept on selling this like ... oh  No problem!  Can't stay on the internet... but will sell you another one today!  I'm getting mad...  It's not every day we spend that kind of money on a computer .  & ALL they can give us is that LOUSY Lion combo update.  I can't even stay connected long enough to make a vitamin order with Puritan's Pride...  & then the disconnection wipes out my cart... so I have to  start over. When are they going to fix this!   'Not feeling very positive'.  I feel like Apple KNOWINGLY sold my husband a defective... system.  14 days... oh please...

  • Has anyone had any problems with their charger blowing out?

Has anyone had any problems with their charger blowing out? mine blew, there's now a charred pin on the charger and in the socket of the macbook. The plastic around the charge socket is also cracked & distorted from the blow-out. It wasn't a power surge as no other electrical items were affected. It wasn't liquid or dust, as I'm the only person who uses it & I'm very careful. I'm concerned that the consequences could have been terrible. I wasn't present when it happened though, I can just see the evidence after the event.
I have a mid 2010 13" Macbook running the latest software & use the original magsafe charger that came with it.
Will I have to fork out for a costly repair or is there a safety issue that Apple will sort out for me?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

  • Has anyone had any problems with the latest upgrade for iPad?

I have an iPad 1 and am being prompted to upgrade to the latest version software. Has anyone had any problems when doing this? Our PC runs on Wndows 7.
Having just resolved iTunes not connecting to the store after the recent upgrade, I'm reluctant to do something that could potentially screw up the iPad which does what we want as it is.

Ok, thanks for that. I'll hang fire for the moment & see if anyone else has any comments.
That's probably a good idea.  If you are happy with the system as is, I'd wait to upgrade.  I can report that my friends and family have mostly upgraded to iOS 5 without any problems, but as you can probably tell from other posts on this board, lots of people have run into problems.
As the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

  • Has anyone had any problems with fusion drive?  If so, what kind of problems, and were they easily corrected?

I'm looking at buying a new computer.  Has anyone had any problems with fusion drive on iMac?  If so, what kind of problems, and were they easily corrected?

    NOPE!
I better not!  My iMac is only a week old.  And, if I did have any problems with it, I would let Apple deal w/it!  I do not troubleshoot when I'm under warranty.  That's Apple job!

Check how many applications are starting when you log in, I found that if there was a lot of activity at login Finder did not display the icons on the desktop correctly, again like you it did not occur at every login, just occasionally.
For Safari have you tried resetting Safari, if that does not help you could disable plugins and extensions one at a time. You may find one of those is causing the problem.

I am afraid its worsen then THAT!!. I bought two licences from those fraud spammers, liftetime with "satisfaction or moneyback guarentee".
Both my Imac and MacPro kept crashing after installing it. All the helpdesk from zeobit did for me was sending me mails i should re-install osx and mackeeper.
When that didnt help, the gave in. I asked my money back, as in the guarentee. Thet denied flat out. "Sir this is not OUR software causing the problem, but OSX. Go there with your complained!"
Alsoo there newsletter......i UNLISTED 9 times now and still i get 5-8 spam mails a week.

  • Snow Leopard problems - from my experience so far

Snow Leopard problem 1 - When Firefox 3.5.2 is launched the window doesn't appear in front, we have to manually select via alt+tab or mouse
Snow Leopard problem 2 - QuickSilver did behave odd once. When typed "T", it didn't find Terminal (shocking)
Snow Leopard problem 3 - Three/Four finger trackpad gestures not working.IMP: Not able to go back pages in Safari.

All of my Mail accounts began intermittently failing--with the exclamation point next to them.
Parallels 3 won't run, and if you have any suspended virtual machines when you upgraded to Snow, you'll be unable to shut them down to install Parallels 4. Of course, you can just rename the Parallels 3 folder. Parallels 4 is such a slow beast, I will be going back to 10.5 and 3.
System font conflicts leaving login windows with just squares for letters.
Safari is acting funky--fumbling CSS. Sites that looked fine before the upgrade were jacked up afterwards.
The good of all of this is that I was able to do a full restore from a Time Machine backup, and it worked perfectly!

  • If I update from leopard to snow leopard- do I lose any of my data or programs?

My mac is an os x 10.5.8 and is still on leopard. If i update it to snow leopard, will I lose any of my programs, photos or documents?

Not unless a problem occurs. Back everything up first.

  • Has anyone had experience with these 2.5 IDE enlosures...?

Has anyone had any experience with 2.5 " HD enclosures as seen on site like ebay for a buck...it says ts only wnodows based but its USB right?

    Package included :
    1 x 2.5" hard drive case
    1 x Soft leather case
    1 x USB cable

There's no reason for a standard external USB hard drive enclosure not to work on a Mac. The technology is an industry standard. As you don't link to the specific item, we can't say anything about the quality, ect... but I guess for $1 you don't have much to loose. So long as you're sure the drive you have is an older IDE drive (as most drive for the past few years have been SATA). I guess that may be why they're selling so cheap as IDE drives are pretty rare in notebooks anymore.

  • Has anyone had any of the iLife programs crash on them? especially imovie 6

Has anyone had any of the iLife programs crash on them?
I have had my new intel imac 20" for 2 weeks now and i like it a lot...
except I have been getting crashes on imovie (especially), and garageband.
I have had about 10 crashes total so far in about 2 weeks.
    Is this sound normal?
    thanks, technoreid

How much spare hard disc space have you got? ..Could your disc be so clogged that there's no room for any more movie?
You'll need about 10% of your total hard disc space - e.g; 6GB for a 60GB hard disc - to be kept empty for your Mac to do its "housekeeping" (..creating temporary files, indexing things, and so on..) and iMovie footage uses about 13GB per hour of video.
So if you have a 60GB hard disc, and it's only got 15GB spare, then 6GB of that will really be needed by the Mac itself, giving you about 9GB of usable space, and if you import half an hour of video (6GB) and start cutting it around and editing the audio too, and duplicating a few clips, and adding stills, you're soon going to run out of space!
If your Mac's disc is almost full, you'll probably need to get an external FireWire disc ..say a 160GB or similar size.. then format it as 'Mac OS Extended' (..by selecting that add-on disc and using the 'Erase' tab in the Disk Utility program..) and then you can copy your project over to that new, empty disc, and continue editing it there.
