Snow Leopard. Quicktime Player Squashes Movies??? HunH?!

Hello,
After upgrading to snow leopard, when I launch movies that I have authored in Final Cut Pro or iMovie HD. (That I rendered BEFORE Snow Leopard) The Quicktime player SQUASHES all of them now. If I open same files in VLC, they look correct. Tonight I gotta screen a film.
HELP... any quick way to fix this? What gives?

If using a system with the QT X player, switch to the QT 7 player. If using a system with the QT 7 player and you have QT Pro registered via FCP, simply open the the properties window and reset the "Current size:" setting for the video track to the correct aspect ratio dimensions with the "Keep Aspect" option deselected. Once corrected, you can then reset the "Keep Aspect" option and save the file. This is a quick and easy fix as long as the playing application does not rely on/look for a PAR value and ignore the "Current Size" specified (like iMovie '08/'09 or the QT X Player).

  • Quicktime Player play mov issue

    Hi
Why Quicktime Player play mov have wave line?and MPlayer play is look fine.

a very old version of Final Cut, Final Cut Express HD 3.0 ... I bought a Nikon D3100 DSLR
The Nikon D3100 records video as H.264/MPEG-4 AVC.   This is not usable in FCE.  You will need to convert the video to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec in order to edit the video  in FCE.  Try using MPEG Streamclip to convert the video clips from your D3100.  Also, before importing the converted clips into FCE, select one of the FCE Easy Setups that matches how you shot your video ... 1920x1080i60 for example ... create a new sequence and then import the converted clips.
That said, I think you may still run into some issues with such an old version of FCE.  FCE 3.0 only supported DV and HDV video, neither of which exactly matches what your D3100 can do.  You will be better off upgrading to Final Cut Pro X, the current version of Final Cut.

When you installed Snow Leopard, Tiger was replaced, leaving your programs and files intact.
What is causing your freezing problem is unknown, you can take Kappy's advice and remove everything, but you lose your files and free iLife programs that came with Tiger/new machine.
The 10.6.3 disk you "upgraded" with has the full 10.6.3 on it, but no free iLife suit, so a erase and install will remove what you already have installed.
You can try to locate your problem without the erase and install method by running through this list of fixes.
Step by Step to fix your Mac
But before you do anything, backup your personal data off the machine to a extenal drive and disconnect.
    Most commonly used backup methods
Because if you have to follow Kappy's advice and wipe and install 10.6 fresh, it will cure your problem in nearly 99% of cases, but you have to rebuild everything. All programs and files.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
If this is all too much for you, then STOP and call a local PC/Mac service or competant friend to assist you.
Yuo might need to install more RAM into the machine to make 10.6 run better as well.

  • Snow Leopard Quicktime plug-in won't work with VR movie

I'm trying to view a ship stateroom on royal caribbean's site (just dreaming....)
    Here's the url:
    http://www.royalcaribbean.com/multimedia/popup/cabin.do?br=R&cabincls=B&cabinTyp e=DO&shipCode=EX&popuptype=virtualTour&shipName=Explorer+Of+The+Seas
When I try it on my intel laptop under os 10.6.8, safari 5.1.7, quicktime plug-in 7.6.6, I get a bunch of gobbledygook on the screen. If I try it with firefox, I get a "missing plug-in" message but it's unable to find the required plug-in.
However, if I try it on my good old ppc imac, under os 10.4.11, safari 4.1.3, quicktime plug-in 7.6.4, it works perfectly.
Anyone have any good ideas? It couldn't be that the newer software is incompatible with older sites? That'd be bad. I hope there's an easy solution to this.
    Thanks!

Thanks, but it didn't work for me. I did click on your link (a bit different from the one I'd posted) and got what appeared to be a weird text file. Since it was supposed to be a movie, I saved it with .mov extension and, sure enough, it played fine in quicktime player. However, safari did not recognize it as a movie to be played with the quicktime plugin. Weird.

  • FCP 7 on Snow Leopard - Quicktime gamma shift!

i am running Snow Leopard 6.0.2 and Final Cut Studio 3 in a 2008 2.8GHz Mac Pro Quad Core. My monitors are two 23" Apple Cinema Displays, both calibrated to a gamma value of 2.2.
Since upgrading to Snow Leopard i have noticed, that when exporting a Quicktime movie, color corrected using the canvas, the output file, opened with Quicktime X or 7 looks washed out. When i compare the output file with the picture in the canvas there is a big shift.
i currently do not have the budget for a professional Broadcast monitor, so i need to rely, to a certain extent on my Apple Cinema Display.
i have searched far and wide for a solution, but have been frustrated immensely.

However, when I try to download Quicktime 7 for Snow Leopard, it tells me I cant install because Quicktime X is already present.
When you say "Quicktime 7 for Snow Leopard" are you referring to the normal QT 7 download page or the special "QuickTime Player 7.6.6 for Mac OS X v10.6.3" download page? Snow Leopard requires a special version of the QT 7 Player that gets installed in the "Applications > Utilities" folder.

  • Snow Leopard, quicktime H264 playback, cinema speakers cause video freezing

I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.1 on an early 2009 MBP 17 (2.66ghz) with 9400 and 9600 graphics chipsets. This version of Snow Leopard supports hardware-accelerated H264 video playback on the 9400 chipset. I have a 1080p video which plays back flawlessly using Snow Leopard's Quicktime player with hardware accelerated decoding (averages less than 5% of the CPU during playback of 1080p video).
Since I added the Apple Cinema Display 24 (ACD24) with its built-in USB speakers, I can no longer play this video back smoothly with the ACD's speakers in use for the sound. This setup causes frequent video playback pauses and freeze-frames (sound continues to play).
If I switch the system audio back to the MBP's built-in speakers, the playback immediately returns to being flawless.
I've also noticed that Windows 7 under Bootcamp does not work very well with these speakers, which frequently pop and click under Windows 7 when music or video is being played.
Any suggestions for troubleshooting these problems?

I seem to have fixed it.. I spent an hour troubleshooting. I logged into my vanilla guest account and the glitches were still there, so I knew if the problem was from 3rd party software, it was installed system-wide or at least for all users. So I removed all my 3rd party PreferencePanes and the problem disappeared. I slowly added them a couple at a time and the culprit was the Unsanity software (Application Enhancer, FruitMenu, MenuMaster, etc) .. I went to their site and the last update is about Leopard compatibility.. lol. So I think I'm just not going to use their software anymore. Problem solved!

  • Creating an animation from a series of image, snow leopard Quicktime 7 fails

Quicktime 7 allowed a user to be able to select a series of images and create an movie file with a time interval..
The Quicktime 7 for Snow Leopard from the Snow Leopard Installer dvd does not allow you to select more than one image..
How can I create a movie from a series of images jpgs.s...
We do scientific work climate modeling and this was a great tool to create animations..
Where did it go.. there is no ability to do this in Quicktime X..
Does anyone know how to make this functionality work?

    Ok I got it...
Just select the first frame and then you get a dialog box that sets the time interval...
It AUTOMATICALLY selects all the rest of the images if they are sequentially numbered...
    doh..

  • Under Snow Leopard, Quicktime 10 (and 7) stutter on frame-by-frame playback

After I upgraded to Snow Leopard I found that Quicktime 10 stuttered very badly in frame-by-frame playback of .mp4 or .mov files. I use this feature very frequently to study dance videos. I pause the video with the space bar, then move forward or backward frame-by-frame using the cursor keys.
After the upgrade I went back to my Leopard back-up disk and grabbed Quicktime 7 and installed it on my laptop. Quicktime 7 has much less stutter in the playback, but it is still not as good as it was under 10.5.
This is on a January 2009 Macbook Pro with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 4 GB of RAM.
I tried changing the settings in Energy Saver to Higher Performance but that did not make any difference.
A friend of mine just bought one of the new 27-inch iMacs and I checked this issue on his computer - frame-by-frame playback is smooth.
    Any suggestions or comments appreciated.
    thanks
    Paul

I had this problem on my old mac mini and then my new mini worked fine. I upgraded to snow leopard and this QT 10 choppy video is BACK! Get this fixed apple! Funny but, if you right click and "open with" the application grapher, it will play the choppy video smoothly/completely normal.
why can't this be resolved??? WHY WHY WHY!!!!!

  • Snow Leopard Quicktime No Apple+J Audio

    Hey!
I've just upgraded to Snow Leopard from Leopard.
I used to use Quicktime Pro.
It had this really nice feature of 'Apple + J' which would bring up
the movie properties of the audio and video track. I use to just delete
the audio but deleting it and now it seems in Snow Leopard it doesn't have this option anymore.
Does anyone know how to delete the Audio out?
    Thanks,
    Dan

I'm having Audio/Video syncing issues and thought it could be resolved in some way but i don't see anything in the Utilities folder for Quicktime X

  • Snow Leopard Flash Player Security Vulnerability

In the "What were they thinking?" department, various sources are warning about security vulnerabilities in the older version of Flash Player that is included with the Snow Leopard installation. It is recommended that the newest version of the Flash Player be downloaded from the Adobe web site and installed. D'oh!
    http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-10344478-37.html

    Raymon:
You should probably be updating Excel to 10.1.6 anyway; then run the new Security update. In fact, if you're running Excel with MS Office X, I there's a combined updater to take care of all the products in that Suite. (Run repair permissions from Disk Utility before installing.)
I wouldn't be concerned with older flash files you have previously put on your Mac. I'd just install the new security update(s) and go on with enjoying your Mac.
Yes, you'll also want to update the Shockwave Player or other Flash-based Macromedia software you might have installed, based on the listing at the bottom of that referenced site.
I'm not really surprised about views/replies. "Vulnerabilities" don't necessarily mean that there's anything vicious roaming around the net right now, but rather that something in the software code was discovered that might allow such things to be enabled. If something affecting Macs was running rampant, I suspect that it would be reported everywhere very quickly.

  • Quicktime Player Show movie info window

How do you set it up that Quicktime Player automatically opens that window when it launches? I've have my QT player set so that it does this for so long that I forgot how I set it, but I accidentally closed the info window one day & quit QT Player. When I opened it again, I had to manually open the info window for the movie I was watching. Since then I've been unable to get that window to come up automatically as it did before. What do I need to do??

Okay, good news. Mac OS X hints has the solution for the problem. Just go to: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060130071542683

  • QuickTime player turns movies white

I have the new intel Mac Pro and the QuickTime player turns the movies that I need for homework white, it says that I need a third party software then it takes me to a page of them but doesnt say which one I need, I downloaded one of them but it still doesnt work. Im pretty sure I have Quicktime 7.1 but I downloaded the newest version 7.3.1 again just to make sure and it still doesnt work. One of the videos plays audio but just white video, the other one has nothing. One of the video clips has a v210, Integer (Big Endian) Timecode codec and the other is DVCPRO HD (1080i60) codec. They are not long in length only a few seconds but when I open them they just turn white. Help me please!

It could might be that because your MacBook is brand new it may not have the codecs needed to play the files. I had problems playing avi (white screen with sound). If you download a few third party codes they may help. I loade up 3ivx (www.3ivx.com) and Divx (www.divx.com) and they did the trick. These are both UB and solved my problem. But if they are some fancy new codec only playable with the software that created it mayby a player other han Quicktime will play them. I'm not realy familiar with the codecs you mentioned and not sure if they are codecs that can be contained as an avi format. VLC (www.videolan.org/) plays almost anything.

  • Snow Leopard Quicktime Export?

I used to have Quicktime Pro, which had an Export option in the File menu. Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, that function has disappeared. How do you convert video formats now?

    Thanks Capt Kirk.
Apple’s Share button hints at a simplified method of converting and exporting video. Whereas QuickTime 7 has an Export option that let you choose from different codecs and customize your audio and video options, QuickTime X only has the aforementioned Share choices as well as slightly-updated version of the Save For Web option of QuickTime 7, and a Save As menu item that offers presets for Apple devices and 480p and 720p videos. Interestingly, applications such as iMovie—which are built on QuickTime—still offer the same custom export options as they did under Leopard. If you really want to customize output, QuickTime 7 Pro is still an option if you have it.

  • Snow Leopard QuickTime Flip4Mac

Hi, I'm hoping you can help me with a problem I am having with my imac and Snow Leopard (and another with XP Explorer under bootcamp). I have an imac with 1gb of memory. I found a web site that has some great videos that I want in my iphone. I have (so far) 4 of their videos in my iphone that I just watched on my hdtv via a component cable to my iphone--so I have had some luck. On the web site of
http://www.embroiderylibraryprojects.com, I was able to click on the video, wait for it to load to my imac, then click to download video to my desktop (making sure that I added BERNINA to precede the assigned name to the video.) Then I was able to click on the video on my desktop and select itunes so that the video would be imported into itunes
and become part of a smart playlist of anything that has the name BERNINA in it. Then I was able to sync the videos to my iphone.
Today, I watched an online video on Thick Threads but it was cut short (so was Clocks). I updated my Flip4Mac, but it didn't help. I tried Firefox, but had the same problem. So, I thought, maybe the video on the web site might have been cut short, so I went to XP and used Internet Explorer to view the video. With Explorer, I can hear the entire video (it isn't cut short), but the video is ugly (look like ghosts) and I didn't see where I could download the video, and then xfer it via flash drive to SL, so I could get it into itunes.
Does anyone have any idea of what I need to do in order to get complete videos onto my desktop? (I haven't yet had a lesson on my embroidery module of my Bernina 440qe, but I was having fun viewing these videos in preparation for my lessons.) Thanks for any help you can give.

    HI,
If your profile is correct and you are running 10.5.4, then to go the Apple Menu / Software Updates.
The most recent Mac OS X version is 10.5.8.
You could also try Firefox as an alternative browser to Safari.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/internet_utilities/mozillafirefox.html
As with any updates, repair disk permissions afterwards.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Just installed Lion on 2009 MacBook Pro moved from Snow Leopard - img. copies of movies will not play on DVD player

I have a MacBook Pro 2009.   In order to get iCloud I have moved to Lion.   Mountain Lion will slow machine too much.  I now find that DVD player will not play the Disc Image  .img  movie files.  When I open DVD player and click File and Open DVD Media, the Disc Image files are greyed out.  The .dvdproj files are not greyed but if I click on them I get a message that "the media type is not supported".   I could play the movies without any problem before I switched to Lion.  The switch was done at the Apple store by an Apple Technician.    Any idea what is happening?

Download and install VLC. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html and get rid of DivX.
