Snow Leopard vs HP Device Manager, Part II

Clicking "scan" gets me an "Unkown Errror" response. Not much help, sorry.

You don't say what printer you are using, at least not in this message. However, you might find help from this document on the HP web site:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01846935&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en &jumpid=regR1002USEN
As it says, HP Scan Pro software (from Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5) is not supported in Snow Leopard. The HP icon for HP Device Manager still in the dock after upgrade is not functional and should be removed.
You should be able to scan from Snow Leopard's Image Capture or Preview programs, or from System Preferences > Print & Fax.

  • Snow Leopard - No Output devices found - (Audio)  Help?

    Folks
I just installed Snow Leopard on my Mac Mini which I use as my home media centre. It upgraded fine except for the lack of audio devices it now reports. Ive been combing forum threads but to no avail.
    Appreciate any help or suggestions
    Model Name: Mac mini
    Model Identifier: Macmini1,1
    Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
    Processor Speed: 1.83 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 2 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz

    Update:
Syetm profiler told me I had no sound device. I did the PRAM thing and the plist thing. no help.
I then pulled opened the mac up and checked to make sure the daugther boards were properly seated ... I was desperate.
When I rebooted the machine, it came up WITH SOUND. I dont think it was me opening the box as it could have also been me booting the machine up with no toslink f/o cable plugged into the output jack.
When the mini restarted I got the bing over the system speaker, and once the machine had started the audio worked perfectly and I plugged the cable back in.
Since the sound has been working I have lost it a couple of time since, particularly after using DVD player. this has ofetn happened as I think it gets tripped up when swthching between 5.1 audio out and normal output. Again this sorts itself out if rebooting with the output cable disconnected.
I hate these type of issues as it seems so erratic. Let me know if starting with the cable out sorts things out.

  • Just upgraded to Snow Leopard, but Palm device 4.0 won't sync with it.  Any hope?

Can anybody tell me how to make Palm handheld running system 4.2.2 work on the Mac I just upgraded to Snow Leopard?

It would help if you stated what Palm device you are using. I had a Tungsten T3 and then an E2 running perfectly well on Snow Leopard before I gave Palm up, using Desktop 4.2.1 rev.d, so you could give that a try:

    or failing that 4.2.1 rev.a

though I can't remember what the difference was.

  • Snow Leopard vs HP Device Utilities

I installed new Snow Leopard Friday on my Imac and noticed today that the HP PhotoSmart C4480 icon on the dock fails to "initialize" the Scan function. Printing hasn't been a problem, so I reinstalled the HP software and it still doesn't work. HELP. I have publications to produce and deadlines don't wait!

I have a scanner, an HP 5470c, for which I originally had to order a CD from HP with updated drivers and utilities to run on 10.5.x. The software could not be downloaded.
Under Snow Leopard, all the same HP drivers work, along with the HP Scanjet Copy Utility, which is a PowerPC application. It does require Rosetta to run.
Also, My HP 5550 inkjet printer works, using Snow Leopard drivers. The old HP utility doesn't work, but the SL drivers show the ink levels, which the old Leopard drivers didn't do. When I tried to reinstall the old HP printer utility, it gave me a warning that it could harm the system. I wanted to see what it would do, anyway, and it ended up taking out the Ghost-dependent Foomatic drivers I had installed for an HP laser printer, an LJ1000, so I had to reinstall Ghost and the Foomatic drivers for that.

  • After installing Snow Leopard my Bluetooth device is gone.

    Hi all.
Don't know if anybody else had that too, but just to report that after installing the new version the Bluetooth hardware wasn't there. Tried it twice but still the same. Any advice?. Perhaps is the disk.

I think maybe one of us finally is getting. You don't have bluetooth ins system preferences. Yes, it should be there. Why isn't it? I have no idea. You might be able to get it installed by doing a repair install--installing Sno over Sno as in an upgrade install.

  • Preview 4.2 has stopped functioning.  How does one install a version of Preview that will operate with Snow Leopard?

My version of Preview 4.2 had stopped functioning.  How do I install a later version compatible with Snow Leopard?

Since Preview is part of the system, you can reinstall your OS using your install disks. It will automatically install the correct version. I have not been running Snow Leopard, so I cannot check on the correct version of Preview; however, how did it "stop functioning"? Exactly what happened?

  • Problems upgrading from v10.5.8 to snow leopard.

I recently purchased Mac OS X snow leopard to upgrade my v10.5.8 Macintosh computer. The computer successfully got half way through the install then automatically rebooted itself. After this happened it remained at the reboot screen indefinitely (screen with the apple logo and the loading circle). Has this happeneded to anyone else? what can be done to prevent this happening to successfully load snow leopard onto my device. v10.5.8 Macbook aluminium version 2008.
    Thanks,
    Connor.

My suggestion is to make a bsckup unless you already have one then erase the drive and install Snow Leopard fresh then restore your files.

  • Droid Charge to USB to Mac (Snow Leopard)

I've trying desperately to connect my Charge to a 2010 iMac (snow leopard) and the device does not seem to ever boot. All it does it "charge" (haha..) through the USB and does nothing else. Tried restarting both Mac and Device, tried every imaginable combination of USB setting with debugging on/off, the device does pick up on bluetooth, not that it helps me any. Disk Utility shows no other devices, and there are no USB on/off notifications found on my pull down menu as decribed on other forums discussing the same topic.
I've installed iTuneMyWalkman and Salling Media Sync in hopes that the device would sync and pick up on my computer. No luck finding drivers online in case that was the problem as well.
All I want is some music that I already own to listen to on my Droid, I'm not asking for much....

I have a 2010 iMac formerly running SL.  There is only 1 USB port that will properly recognize the phone.  Try the USB port right next to the firewire port on the back of the iMac.  If that one doesn't work try the others.  It won't work thru the keyboard or a USB hub.  Also, make sure you use a good USB cable.  Mine works perfectly and has worked consistently since I figured out the port.

  • Snow Leopard in Russian

    Hello,
just got my first apple computer - macbook pro 13. i want to install snow leopard, but i couldnt manage to find it in Russian. When i try to open the russian apple page and select snow leopard, it just offers me to go to a retail store and buy one from there. I live in Estonia myself though and ordered a Russian macbook from our local retail store.
Would be nice if someone helped me with this little problem
    Marat

Oh... Just noticed I thought you could just upgrade it online. OK, so there is a special offer of 10 bucks for snow leopard. As far as I understand, i have to mail / fax the form offered at apple.com directly to Apple with my credit card number and other info. But i did not find the shipping fee from US to Europe, which sometimes can get a bit high. For example, when i ordered items on ebay, some people charged me 15$ for packages and others wanted ~60$... Can somebody help me with this also?

  • IPhoto will not load up after system crash (Snow Leopard)

I had a major crash following Snow Leopard installation and have managed to save my photos but I am unable to get iPhoto working.
I click on iPhoto but an Error Message comes up with the following comments:_

    Referenced from: /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/MacOS/iPhoto
    Reason: image not found
Anyone have any ideas how I can get iPhoto back working ?

    Neil,
    Sure.
If you don't have Pacifist, download it from Version Tracker or Mac Update..
Once you have Pacifist, insert your Snow Leopard Disk and then open Pacifist.
Scroll down through the files in Pacifist which show all the files on the Snow Leopard DVD.
Follow the path you already showed.
Once you find the file, click on it to highlight it and then have Pacifist install that file for you.
You probably need to restart but not positive. Restart anyway.
    Then try iPhoto....

  • Word of Caution to Apple: Snow Leopard is one of your best programs ever invented by you.  Why are you looking to discontinue it? Both your Maverick and Lion programs failed due to breeches in its security unlike Snow Leopard!

Snow Leopard is one of the best MAC programs ever invented by Apple. So, I wanted to find out why Apple has chosen to discontinue there best working, and greatest, most stable Mac Program they have ever invented.  In all honesty, Apple's Lion and Maverick programs have been disastrous due to recent serious security breaches in these new programs, which did not occur with any of Apple's Snow Leopard users like myself. Part of good business is sticking with programs that are enduring and will out last the test of time and technology.
Also, Snow Leopard has proved itself by passing in terms of protecting us "Snow Leopard" users from any security breaches and other problems that have affected both your newer Lion and Maverick programs with all its great technology. Continuing to go in the direction as Apple is going in relation to our Snow Leopard Mac program (by discontinuing this great program as well as support for it) I believe could prove to be a huge and fatal business mistake.  Consider enhancing Snow Leopard; in other words continue to build on such positive potential in this way more stable program than your newer ones.  Again, please re-consider your decision(s).  Any thoughts?

Apple isn't listening here. (I should point out however, that your premise that Snow has stronger security is not correct. The gotofail error in 10.9 was a one-off and the OSs above 10.6 have greater sandboxing for security.) I still think Snow is a great OS and should receive continued support. It will inevitably become less secure without that.
But this is a user to user forum. Send your comment to feedback.

I have a MacBook with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and iTunes 11.0.1.  When I tether my new iPod Nano, the icon shows up on my desktop, but does not show up under devices in iTunes.  The Nano says it is connected and synching, but I cannot download music if it doesn't show up under devices.

  • Two iOS devices and a Snow Leopard Mac: trying to sync photos

My wife’s tech support group, that would be me , is failing in attempts to find an easy way to sync her photos between iPhoto on her Snow Leopard Mac and her two iOS 5 devices using iCloud.
The bottom line is how best to manage photos during a time all devices are not on iCloud.
    Two problems:
    1. She now has the two iOS devices reporting different numbers of pictures and slightly different albums. Shouldn't they be exactly the same?
    2. Is it better to have her sync her Snow Leopard Mac to the iOS devices using iTunes or iPhoto.
Any basic tips appreciated. Including if this is not the correct Community for this post.
    Thank you.

You are in the correct community for posting this question. Most people would never even think to ask. That's very thoughtful of you. Anyway .... to the point about syncing photos.
I do not use Photo Stream and use iCloud for very little as well. I still sync with iTunes because that works for me and I am used to doing it that way. I am running Lion on my MacBook so I have everything I need for iCloud, but .... This is how I do it.
Connect the iPad to the Mac and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Photos Tab on the right.
Select iPhoto as the folder from which you want to sync.
Click on all of the albums, events, faces, that you want to sync.
Make sure that the Sync Photos heading is checked/selected.
Click on Apply or Sync in the lower right corner of iTunes

  • IMPORTANT GUIDE FOR ANYONE WITH AN HP DEVICE NOT WORKING AFTER SNOW LEOPARD

To anyone with an HP printer/scanner device,
After being frustrated with my HP Photosmart C4580 not being able to scan for over an hour (scouring the forums, HP's website etc), I've come to realize my problem. Note that this has only been tested on a device that is plugged in DIRECTLY to your mac. I have not tried this over the network and do not plan to since my house is not set up for that.
Anyone who is having any issues with their device, UNINSTALL the HP software. The software is simply incompatible with SL and will mess up your devices! HP even says so on their website (see link below)!
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01846935&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en &product=1153481
This is easily done by going to your applications folder > Hewlett Packard > HP Uninstaller. After using the uninstaller to uninstall HP's apps from your computer unplug your scanner from your computer and power supply. Now to make sure there are NO printers registered with your computer that could possibly mess up the fresh driver install, go to System Preferences > Print & Fax. Right click anywhere in the left pane (where any printers you have/had installed will be located) and click "Reset Printing System". This will wipe out any traces of a printer so you can start a-new.
Now, restart your computer. After it is restarted, plug your printer into the power source, then when it is fully booted up you may plug it into your USB slot. Then, go to System Preferences > Print & Fax. Click on the "+" (which will give you the interface to add your printer), select your printer (which you should note will say "USB Multifunction" instead of "USB" which is what showed up with the HP software still installed), and click "add". Your mac will do the rest (installing the drivers and such) and you should be able to print & scan as usual.
Note that you will need to scan using Preview, Image Capture, or your Printer Queue due to the changes with Snow Leopard (see the HP link above to learn how to use these). Your device should now properly show up when you use these applications to try and scan now.

@lakewood - there is nothing specifically in Software Update if you upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard. For me anyway..seems like thats the case for everyone though.
@ruger - so it won't even let you hit the '+'? For me, I had to hit the '+' to get it to install which in turn automatically downloaded the proper software/drivers for my device. if i were you, i'd see if i could get that to happen and hit '+' to install it. also - make sure you don't have any of the HP software on your computer also (use the uninstaller provided!)..that was really what did the trick for my machine. HP has come out and specifically said to not use the device manager, but that didn't quite do it for me. i had to uninstall everything that came on that CD (its all located in applications > Hewlett-Packard and, like i said, can be uninstalled easily using the provided uninstaller).
if all else fails, what i've also heard helps is just to reinstall snow leopard. that'll make sure everything is fresh. i'd delete all your printers like i outlined in my first post first THEN reinstalling it if you wish to go that route. however, it really does sound like the driver is messed up if its pausing and works fine with time capsule. idk how old the printer is, but sometimes with older models, the support blows. i apologize if none of this helps whatever the reason for your troubles may be, though.
    Good luck,
    -Mike S
PS: printers are always terrible to upgrade on everyone's end. consumers, operating systems, and manufacturers. it stinks that nothing can be generic and run similarly anymore =/
