Hi D.A.,
Sorry you couldn't find the doc easily, but happy you are set up now.
I did place it in our FAQ here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1417831?tstart=0
I will let the tech writer know about the need for having this info in the documentation. Good idea, thanks.
In the mean time, you can file a feature request to make USB mic setup a lot easier here: http://adobe.ly/feature_request
Thanks,
Kevin

  • Snowball USB Mic in Logic Express?

    Hi everyone.
I just got a Snowball USB mic, as I thought it would be a cheap, simple way to just record my rehearsals with just a laptop and one device.
However, Logic Express isn't recognizing it. And the nice folks at Blue Mic are telling me to speak to the fine folks at Mac about it.
Apparently, the Snowball is supposed to work in Logic Pro, but not necessarily Logic Express. This makes no sense to me though, because if you're using Logic Pro, aren't you less likely to be using a cheap USB mic? I don't get it.
Anyway, if anyone knows how to use this white, round wonder in Logic Express, you and I will be BFF for life...
    Many thanks,
    Mortimer Jones

It should work fine in Express - it's set up in the Audio/MIDI Setup in your utilities folder.
From the audio menu, open the Aggregate Device Editor.
Add your options by pressing the '+' sign. For example, add your Snowball, then add built-in audio.
Once you've completed this, close Audio/MIDI setup, and open Logic.
In Logic preferences go to Audio -> Drivers. In the driver popup menu, select the new Aggregate Device you just created.
I haven't used this mic, but I remember answering this before in this forum, and I believe this should work.

  • Kernel Panic when using Garageband with Blue Snowball USB mic

    *HI ALL,*
*I purchased Mac Pro recently about 3 weeks ago. I am on the latest updates including the recent firmware update. However whenever I use garageband with external USB mic(Blue Snowball) my Kernel Panics and OS freezes and forces me to Power On again. It happened 20 times so far in few hours.*
*I opened garageband first time today after bought this external mic from apple store. I did not use garageband without this mic plugged into USB, I only used garageband with MIC plugged in and in couple of minutes to 5 minutes of using garageband the Kernel Panic occurs. Need your help please. Here is the message I get after login again which I reported consistently to Apple. Any immediate help is appreciated. I use iMove, iPhoto and other apps without any problem. Harddisk verification went o.k.*

Blue Snowflake USB Mic, Blue Snowball USB Mic

Seems to be a lot of crashiness with USB Audio in 10.5.2 - let's hope we see a patch soon

  • Can i use my snowball usb mic with Logic or Pro Tools???

Can i use my snowball usb mic with Logic or Pro Tools???

    Hi there,
Did you find out anything more in regard to this?
I have been using Pro Tools 8 with the MBox 2 connected to my iMac operating Leopard. It worked a treat for nearly four years.
However the hardrive has just been replaced on the iMac which now has Snowleopard.  I don't want to have to update to Lion and then fork out £500 for Pro Tools 10.
I would be content to get Logic Pro 9 if I can attach the MBox 2 to it.
    Your advice would be appreciated

  • Using a Snowball USB mic?

I have been told that the Macbook does not have a mic input.
How well will the macbook work with a USB mic such as the Snowball mic, for
recording spoken word? Has anyone done it?
    Thanks.

These are the ports on a macbook. Be sure to read the part about audio in.

The microphone cannot be self-powered. It has to be a line-level Microphone. Unless you have one your best bet might be something like this.

    or the microphone you mentioned.

  • Both internal and USB mics not working

Hi there, all. Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Starting last night, I have been having issues with microphone use on my iBook G4. Neither the internal mic nor my USB headset mic (Altec Lansing AHS302USB) are accepting input.
The internal mic's failure doesn't surprise me, as I have heard about the delicate nature of the wire connecting the internal mic from its position on the display down to the main computer. It's the USB mic that confuses me, since USB mics are what everyone seems to recommend that people use when the internal mic is on the fritz (thanks to other mics not working with Mac due to the line-in thing). Also there is the fact that I have used this headset with this computer for over a year with no significant issues until now, with both mics simultaneously failing.
There doesn't seem to be a problem with the headset's wires; I am still able to hear audio through the headphones quite well, and when I load my audio recording program (Audio In) and Sound Preferences, I can see the occasional blip of sound recognition when I move the USB adapter portion around in the port. These blips even occur when the pink microphone jack and headphones jack are unplugged from the adapter, so this suggests to me that the problem lies not with the wires, but somewhere in the USB adapter, port, or the computer itself.
I'm leaning toward the computer itself, since it just seems odd that both mics would just happen to stop working at the same time. That and the fact that audio output still works through the headset, and the USB ports work fine for other USB devices such as my external drive and iPod.
I have tried restarting, resetting the PRAM, and repairing permissions with Disk Utility. Nothing's working so far.
Does anyone have any idea what could possibly be wrong?
For reference's sake, I took a recording of the sound that results from jiggling the USB headset adapter in the port. It's very quiet, so you may need to turn up the volume a little bit to hear it. Again, these are the ONLY sounds that the mic is able to pick up currently.

iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.10) 768 MB RAM, 37.7 GB hard disk

Just to chime in here - I wonder if it's down to the software: I've recently updated to 10.4.10, and the internal mic seems to have stopped working.
One positive effect of the change to 10.4.10 is that my Griffin iMic no longer flips to 8-bit, 22khz recording when I plug it in.
Having said that, I really like to get my internal mic back up and running again.

  • USB Mic not recognized

My internal mic sounds like crap - originally it was fine - now I am getting a horrible high pitched sound when I try to record in iMovie 08.
I've adjusted the input volume - no effect.
I bought a Blue Snowflake USB mic and it's not recognized at all.
    Any suggestions?

All that has been done - I dusted off my old windows machine and the mic works on that one. The manufacturer says that it works with Mac OSX...
I'm afraid that it's possible that the Macbook can't power the mic.

  • USB Mic Not Recognised

    Hi,
I'm having problems getting logic pro 8 to recognise my Behringer C-1U USB Mic. The Audio Device set-up sees the mic as soon as I plug it in, it allows me to select it as a device to record sound, but when I look in the Audio section of logic it only shows the default 'Built-In Microphone' and 'Built-In Input'. It works perfect in Garageband, but not in Logic! I'm confused and any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many Thanks
    Phil

  • Samson C01U USB mic/audio recording software.

whats small, free, and reliable audio recording software? on Mac OS X.10.4.5
On XP I like adobe audition, and cool edit pro2
Im having hard time getting Samson C01U USB Studio Condenser Mic to record on my emac ,on audacity
    http://www.samsontech.com/

Cubase LE is good, but Garageband, part of the iLife 06 suite is nice. I recorded a vocal trio to backing tracks and mixed it down to CD using only the effects provided in the program.
Like any software recording system, the more effects you add the more processing power you're using up, but garageband works real well.
I used the Presonus Firepod as an interface, worked fine. Any interface box will work.
If you're only doing a single audio input for a podcast, then Quicktime pro is good. It's not free, but for 30+ bucks it's worth the investment.
    I've used a piece of Shareware.... D-SoundPro
you can google search it. Nice stand alone piece of software, does some amazing things with audio for a shareware product.
    Hope this helps.

  • Blue Yeti USB Mic not audible

    Hi Everyone,
I plugged my new USB microphone into my MAC and recorded a track of vocals which worked fine.
But when I went to record a second track of vocals, the sound is not recording?
I can hear the sound through the headphones, but the sound is not recording to the track or garage band.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Gary,
I am embarrassed to say that I have been doing this support stuff for quite a while and have never opened up that utility. I don't support Midi Devices, so when I saw Midi in the name, I just bypassed it.
But you were correct, that fixed the issue. In the utility, the output tab was set to 44.1K instead of 48K, changed that to 48K and it worked perfectly, QT now captures at 48K and sounds good. I have not tested it in FCP 5.1 yet, but I assume that FCP will also capture at 48K, now that the Mic is set correctly.
Follow up question 1, the "M" slider (I am assuming that is the "Master" Slider you were referring to in your post) is not selectable on either the Input or Output side, it is grayed out, is there a way to enable that slider?
Follow up question 2, the Input side is set to Value = 0.53 and dB = 24.00 and the Output side is set to Value = 0.27 and dB = -18.00. With those settings, the test VO's I have run sound pretty good, but should I make any changes to the default Values list above (like make the input and Output side match) or should they be left at the default values?
I really appreciate your input and was hoping to find a way to set the properties of the Mic, but I didn't know that the "Audio Midi Setup" was the place to do that.
    Thanks a lot!

  • Importing to iMovie: How do I use an external usb mic when recording with the built-in FaceTime HD Camera?

    Hello all
I'm scheduled to work with a friend this week; I'm going to help him make a simple audition DVD.  I promised him I had the necessary equipment and such.
I was importing from the webcam using iMovie.  If I can't use my external mic to record for the video, there is more involved in the editing process.   I was hoping to record the video and audio into one package.  I'm using the built-in FaceTime webcam on my macbook pro and a ZoomH1 on usb.
I've tried changing the audio in system preferences: input to H1.  This works when recording with audacity or anything else.  I even changed the input on FaceTime to H1.  There aren't any preferences I can find in iMovie to change the input for importing video directly from the webcam.
How do I change the audio input for direct import on iMovie?
    OR
Is there something else I can do to have HD video and HQ audio captured in one video file on my macbook pro?
I suppose I can record the video and audio separately but that is usually much more involved.  This is why I got this usb microphone lol.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Seth

I just found using QuickTime Player to record a movie works great.  I can easily change the audio input.  iMovie is silly. lol
If I missed anything let me know.
    Thanks
    -Seth

  • USB Mic not working in Premiere Pro CS6 for Mac

So I've been editing in Premiere Pro CS6 on a mac for 6 months now.  I have to do a temp VO for a project and I thought I'd try the Narration feature in the mixer.  For some reason my USB mic doesn't show up in the Audio Hardware so I can't pick it.  The same mic shows up in the Mac Audio Settings and even shows up in Audition.  I've been having to use Audition but was curious to see if anyone out there has gotten a USB mic to work in Premiere Pro on a Mac.  Would be a really cool feature if it worked.
    Greg Jones
    D7,Inc.

Some USB mics work fine, but many do not. It can depend on the exact mic, or might require a different ASIO driver (maybe something like ASIO4All?), or different ASIO setting, to work.
    Good luck,

  • USB mic not working

    Hi All.
I'm new to Archlinux and I have the following issue with my USB WebCam (Microsoft VX-1000) : I can't get no sound out of it.
Both the video and audio devices are detected and proper modules are loaded (gspca and snd-usb-audio).
    Video works fine.

    which looks ok to me.
But when I tried to record something (arecord -D plughw:1,0 -d 5 test.wav) then play it back, I can't hear anything.
I even tried to cat /dev/dsp1 into a file then play it back with aplay. Nothing.
All this tests were run while in command line with no DE running (to prevent conflicts with ESD and the like).
After 5 hours of googling, I can't find any solution. Help me, pleeeaaaase.

I mic is unmuted, that was the first thing I checked. And I ran camE during the test to be sure that the webcam is on (green led on).
Another strange thing is, when I run alsamixer, I can only lower the mic capture volume, not raise it. Curious. It works ok in gnome-alsa-mixer though. I guess their might be an issue with the device's control interface, due to a problem with the alsa driver (my webcam not being supported yet).
I really can think of anything else.
Anybody has another idea... please... before I lose the rest of my hair...

  • Yeti USB mic not recognized

Hi, I'm new on this stuff
well today I bought the Yeti USB microphone but it seems that is not working and is not recognized by any usb port on my iMac
I did just as the manual said and I quote it:
"1. Plug the microphone into your computer’s USB port using the provided USB cable.
    2. From the main Apple menu, select the “System Preferences.”
    3. Select the “Sound” icon.
    4. Now select the input tab and select “Yeti Stereo Microphone.” "
When I plug the mic the mute button turns on like for a second and then its off
also the Yeti Stereo Microphone does not appears...
I would thank you if anyone could help me out

If you have followed the directions exactly, it may be that the unit is defective.  Return it and try another one.

  • ALSA Mic Not Recording [Solved]

I have a new install with ALSA and speakers work fine and I can hear myself talking into the microphone (my voice comes outof the speakers) but neither Skype nor the test
    arecord -d 5 test-mic.wav
    aplay test-mic.wav
    get any sound.
This is a new 64 bit install and this same machine has a working 32 bit install--meaning the mic works fine for Skype, but that uses OSS.
Any suggestions what I am doing wrong? Here is alsamixer screenshot: http://static.inky.ws/image/1344/image.jpg
    Thank you.

For the record, there's a "The microphone does not work" section in the Skype wiki.
Don't forget to mark it as solved.
