SNTP Settings gone!

I have suddenly become unable to send e-mail.
The error message "unable to connect to SMTP server" comes up.
However, when I check my SMTP settings by checking "edit server list"
nothing appears other than the (correct) server name. (In my case, mail.optonline.net since my ISP is Cablevision on Long Island, NY)
How can I get my SMTP server re-configured correctly again?
eMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Same issue with not being able to log into the smtp.mac.com server. First changed account names as you suggested (did not work for me) then deleted then readded all accounts, but still no connection to the smtp servers. Mail app appears to occassionally "hang", which is leading me to believe I have corruption somewhere. Any one else have any ideas???
Access via Safari to my .mac account works fine.....

Turns out those error messages it gave me were because it didn't sync properly and create a backup. Which is why when I restored from backup it didn't reload my old info. Instead of assuring me that I would have the option to restore my info, it would have been nice had it told me that a backup hadn't been completed and that restoring my phone without it would leave me with nothing.
Tech support had me use my old SIM card to import my old contacts. This worked, but I've entered contacts since getting the new phone that aren't on my old SIM. And doing so left me with a bunch of re-organizing to do (deleting, combining, entering First and Last name fields...) it took me several hours.
I didn't get my appointments back, cause my old phone was just a phone, and that info wasn't on the old SIM, but I'm REALLY glad I got my contacts.

  • Where have the Quicktime advanced export settings gone in Keynote 6.3?

Where have the Quicktime advanced export settings gone in Keynote 6.3?
In previous versions, it was possible to select numerous options and setting to export a high quality Quicktime video.

The new version 6 and the previous version 5 can both be installed, many users use both to utilise the different features. If you had the previous version installed and have not deleted it is located in iWorks in the Applications folder. If you don't have the previous version it is available from Ebay.

  • Digital AV Adapter: "Accessory not supported" and "TV Out" settings gone after upgrading iPad 2 to iOS 5.0.1

I've used the digital AV Adapter (bought in Apple Store) nicely on iPad 2 with iOS 4.3.x.
After upgrading to iOS 5.0.1 the TV Out settings have disappeared from the General Settings menu (no matter if adapter is plugged in or not).
I thought that maybe it was time to do a full reset (just in case), so I did that, while the adapter was still plugged in.
When the iPad finished resetting I got a popup message on the lock screen saying:
"This Accessory is Not Supported by iPad"
The adapter sort of works, i.e. there is a picture on my TV, but I cannot control the TV output settings which I could in iOS 4.3.x.
The TV Out settings are completely missing from the General Settings menu (if they were moved in iOS 5.0.1 somewhere else, I could not find them).
The "TV Out" menu item is not there at all.
I cannot select between PAL/NTSC output anymore which is crucial for me as it seems that the iPad current setting is PAL, while I need to be it NTSC, otherwise video drop frames/stutters when played back over a TV.
What I would like to know if there is anybody out there who has iOS 5.0.1 and actually can see the "TV Out" settings under the General Settings (I think it should follow the "iTunes Wi-Fi Sync" directly), because no matter what I did I cannot the settings menu to be displayed (I've reset the device, plugged and unplugged the adaptor and HDMI cable multiple times, tried different TVs, etc)
Or, if the settings are in fact, gone by design, then how am I supposed to play 23.976 or 24 FPS media on a 1080p50 TV without stuttering (don't answer that, I know it is impossible, I am just frustrated). This is the first ever device I bought from Apple and I must say I am not that impressed by such turn of events.
I mean, what kind of update removes essential features and makes the officially produced accessory suddenly "not supported"? Did they even test their own official accessory?? Seems not to me.
This thread is talking about sort of similar issue (although it is about the VGA adapter):

    Hi,
the settings are gone, i guess. But even worse, I cannot get the iPad2 to play Full HD thru the Apple digital AV adaptor using apps that support  (and advertise this), like AVPlayer HD. This definiteley used to work before one of the last iOS upgrades. (I am now at 5.1.1).

  • Preferences/Settings gone after forced restart

First, let me say that I have very little free space on my hard drive. I was attempting to remedy that by getting rid of some old files when I tried to shut down my computer. It froze. I did a force shut down. When I rebooted it appears my preferences files were deleted or corrupted or something.
    My stickiesw were deleted.
My dock reverted to its original size and applications.
My Firefox favorites were gone as were my tab preferences, etc.
Mail is fine, iCal is fine. Most of the other applications that I use regularly seem to have everything in order.
The temporary file that hosts my Firefox bookmarks is still physically on my computer. Nothing appears to have been deleted but the settings.
Now, it's probably a 10 minute job to get everything back to normal, but I'm wondering if there's a way to restore my system without having to do so manually. I'm also particularly concerned with the content of the stickies (which is the only location I have of a rather important phone number).
Also, I swear never to let my hard drive get so full (I know it's bad, I know. 10% from now on. Mea culpa)... and be more judicious with my forced restarts. Scout's honor.

    This did not help
I tried to backup some of my files with PhoneView and iExplorer but could not find anything... But iTunes shows me that there is a lot of space used for "other stuff"...
Any chance I can restore my files... I really want to have my Noteshelf drawings back!!!

  • Display Geometry Settings GONE

I have a 21" Apple Studio Display (VGA) and am using it as a second monitor, but now with 10.6 the geometry settings are gone. Snow Leopard also tweaked/modified my displays so I do need to adjust the image or dramatically lower the resolution to get the image correct - it's distorted to an unusable state.
Anyone know of a third party tool to adjust the geometry of Apple's CRT displays - I have a second 17" in the basement that I'm sure will run into the same issue shortly - as I'm assuming Apple won't be of any help.

My iMac has had a similar problem since the display was repaired while the machine was still under warranty (the problem back then was rolling flickering lines). The display gradually becomes shorter and wider; the only remedy is to turn the machine off and let it cool down for a couple of hours. I have to keep my display geometry settings at a "happy medium" so the Dock arrows on the left side are not totally cut off and so I can read DragThing's tabs at the bottom of the screen.

  • All settings gone

I installed an sad and envy thing works fine. When I randomly rebooted my system all my settings were gone. Like I did a clean install. All my apps are this in de application folder and my library is still in place but somehow no setting is loaded.
Does anybody know how to fix this?

    Hi
Normally, this only happens after the Home folder has been renamed, is your Home folder name the same as you set it? If not, have a look at this:

  • Develop Settings gone!!

Has anyone seen this and can offer some help? I went to veiw some pics I tweaked in LR2 a few months ago and noticed that all my develop settings for those pics was gone (i.e. the develop 'history' was just the import date). I went through some other folders and noted that all 'develop settings' for pics after the 15/8/08 (approx 2months ago) are gone..
Very frustrating as I have a LOT of work done in LR2 thats gone. I did not have the Catalog metadata preference; save settings to XMP file checked (do know) and I tried opening my last (and only) catalog backup (14/9/08) and its the same..
I have not changed, moved or renamed the folders the pics are in so I don't know what caused LR2 to drop the develop settings. Does anyone have some advice on what I could do to fix this?
    cheers Tony

OK, based on Lee's advice (thanks Lee) I did a search for ".lrcat" files on my PC and found one LR1 (not LR2) catalog I didn't know I had in the "my docs/pictures/silvertone/" directory (Silvertone being that new Microsoft thing I trialled for 10secs or so...). I opened that catalog and have found the missing develop settings...
I have no idea how my develop settings ended up in this LR1 catalog (as I said, I didn't even know I had it..). Anyway, the important thing is I've found them..
Can someone please advise the easist, best and safest way of copying these develop settings from this catalog to my current/real catalog?
    cheers Tony

  • Windows 10 start menu not working, app settings gone, startup programs not starting (no tray icons) KB3034229 installed

Hi, even after installing KB3034229 my start menu is gone, search does not work so I don't have any good way to start applications. I am worried because they say update fixes this error, but not for me :-(
Most of my settings are also gone. I cannot revert back (getting error about moved account, but I did not move my account location after installing technical preview)
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!

Actually, I decided to take a look around in the Event Viewer and saw that there were errors in the "Application" section under windows logs, with the message stating "Activation of app (Insert app name here with a bunch of characters after
it) failed with error: The remote procedure call failed. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information." And a more specific error to do with ShellExperienceHost.exe  http://pastebin.com/c62Fm8xz
. (Cant figure out how to change the font back, so ill stick with this one) All the errors in the Application tab in windows logs that are "Application Errors" all come from the faulting module "Windows.UI.Xaml.dll" After trying to open
the start menu, an Application error (http://pastebin.com/WVktd0Ti) (Suddenly the font fixed itself, okay.) appeared. This is all on build 10041. The logs in "Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational" all contain something along the lines of this
"Activation of the app Microsoft.Cortana_8wekyb3d8bbwe!CortanaUI for the Windows.Launch contract failed with error: The remote procedure call failed.."
Hopefully this contains useful information to help fix this bug.
    EDIT:
After looking up the error code from the log in "Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational" (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2798317/) It seems to be a permissions issue maybe? I'll update this if I find a solution.

  • Print settings gone wrong

I have a Canon MP150 Pixma printer. Something has recently gone wrong and I hope someone here can help me.
My printer has stopped printing properly from iPhoto (iPhoto 4.0.3). It will print normally from my web browser (Firefox) and from Word and some other applications but not from iPhoto or from the photoshop type software that came with the printer (PhotoStudio by ArcSoft). In those programs it prints as if in some type of draft mode. It prints quickly and the colours are very faded.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer driver, I have trashed the iPhoto and PhotoStudio plists, I have run the Printer setup utility, I have checked the print settings when running a print from iPhoto. I am fed up. Can anyone advise what else I could do to fix the problem? I would be so grateful. Thank you.
    Emac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   512RAM

    Yes to both questions, Philly.
The printer is identified. I looked at all the settings in the Advanced options menu - but I wasn't sure what to change. So I clicked the standard presets button - was that right? It used to print OK and don't recall messing around with these settings in the past other than to change to grayscale printing once when printing from Word.
    Thanks for your interest.

  • IMac is not connecting to the internet. TCP/IP settings gone.  Ethernet works OK.

I have 3 Macs, but today the iMac is not connecting to the internet. The others are fine.  The iMac Airport antenna on the tool bar shows a strong signal, and when I pull down on it, it shows it's connected, but in Network Preferences is says Not Connected.
Then, in the TCP/IP tab, all my setting are gone!. The settings in my laptops are just fine.
I power-cycled everything, but the iMac is still without connection.
When I connect the iMac to the Time Machine/Air

I would test something else connected by ethernet like the laptop to make sure it was not a router thing
then I would connect the appletv by usb to the laptop and use itunes to restore the firmware if that was the issue
then I would try  bringing it to a friend or relatives place and test it there
if all else failed it would resturn it under warrenty

  • VPN Settings Gone After Update to Mac OS X Server 10.5.4

For the second time, a point upgrade of Mac OS X Server 10.5.x Leopard has resulted in all VPN settings being wiped out and the service being shut off. Has anyone else had this experience, and if so, does anyone know if there is a known cause (which might be avoided)?

Please open terminal and post the output of postconf -n
Also, it would be useful to see log extracts from /var/log/mail.log and /var/log/mailaccess.log showing rejected mails.

  • System settings gone after "reanimation" with time machine

    Dear all,
i had a problem signin' in with my first user. After entering the password there was just the "front page" blue screen with my cursor but nothing more. I tried to solve the probmlem in single-user mode entering some things in the terminal. Nothing happened. So i decided to "reanimate" the system with time machine getting my latest backup back on. Everything went well and quick but now i have the problem that there is just the "others"-section displayed in systemsettings, the rest is gone.
I tried to fix it, deleting the file in the directory "caches", but didn't work.
Do you have a clue how to fix it?!
    Thanks for any answers
    Benny

Try downloading iTunes directly from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1426
Install it over your current iTunes, no need to delete anything.

  • ITunes 8 - where have all the import settings gone?

    when will they ever learn?
am I nuts - I can not find the import settings in the new iTunes -
it appears to no longer be in the "advanced" menu, or am I missing it? it just isn't there - I don't see any "burning" settings either.
    help!
    w

right you are! I keep wishing that iT would put them on the main menu - rather than a sub or sub-sub-menu, but there are probably few iT users such as myself that frequently switch between stereo & mono.
does anyone know of a script to automatically change from stereo to mono and back? I guess it's just as easy to go into a sub-menu than run a script...
incidentally, the apple help menus have not changed yet with the new version, every thing I found kept telling me to look in "advanced" rather than general.
    thanks!

  • Icon for Settings gone.

I have a 3G iPhone and noticed yesterday that my icon for Settings is missing. I have checked all the pages to see if by accident I moved it to another location. Where is was is just blank. I did a search and I can open Settings from there. But would like to have the settings icon back. I tried a home page reset but still no Settings icon.
Thanks for any help that can be offered.
    John

Try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
