So, 4.5 for my 8830????????

My carrier (Telus) is telling me that RIM supplies it, messages on RIM's site says it's my carrier.
Im trying to support 45 Blackberries that were purchased with the assurance of our vendor that "4.5 will be out soon" 2 months ago.
I have 40 lawyers who don't understand why HTML formatted emails won't work, antennas that are powering off "to conserve the battery" and messing up the sync when the antenna is turned back on plus a few other issues.  All of which are supposedly fixed with 4.5.
So, when can I get 4.5?
I'm really starting to wish we delayed that purchase.  I'm starting to think they'll come out with an enterprise email solution for the iPhone before I see 4.5 on my BlackBerry.

No carriers have released OS 4.5 for the 8830 model. You should speak (sternly) with whomever fed you that line. RIM creates the OS, your carrier releasess it. Telus is the one holding up here, because the beta versions are floating around.
It is around the corner (and floating around the internet) but just no official release of that OS for that model.
Your lawyers are smart people, just remind them that beta OSs are not legally released software versions.
And, OS 4.5 nor any OS will enable your user to keep the radio on under 15% charge. If they are complaining about that, they need to buy an additional charger for their office or car. Topping off the battery from time to time is recommended for these type Li-Ion batteries.

  • 4.5 OS for Verizon 8830 - memory issues

I upgraded my VZ 8830 to 4.5, and it looks great, but I have noticed I am losing memory even if the phone is not "active" (translation:  not on a call, not using the browser or apps, etc.).  I started out with about 16MB and went to 14MB in about 5 minutes or so.   The lowest I got to was 11 MB then I did a battery pull.  This a pretty vanilla 8830, using BIS for company email, a couple of mobile links to news agencies, etc.  With the old 4.2 OS, I would have to do a battery pull maybe once every 10 days or so.
    Any thoughts?

I have the exact same issue now that i upgraded to vzw's MR4 (BB OS 4.5). I was down the the point of constantly having only 1-2 Mb free if I was lucky, so I uninstalled every 3rd party program I had (google maps, voice, gmail, talk) and I can only get back to haveing around 11MB free.  THen had the phone sitting on the desk after a fresh reboot  and it started at 11Mb and dropped to 9.5 over the course of 45 Minutes.  I hadnt even run any applications since the reboot.  Have cleared event logs, run memory cleanup, extra languages removed, uninstalled help, no sample videos or music, only default themes and the most free space I can get up to is around 11Mb with almost every application uninstalled, which doesnt seem right to me.  I like the features of the new 4.5 OS, however stability is horrible.  I end up having to reboot this thing quite a bit just to keep it running, sometimes several times a day.

That's a pretty old beta (.51 was out a long time ago, .101 is the most recent "common" beta" right now). .51 was followed by .66, .77 and then .101 (I've used them all and they've gotten progressively better).
RIM gets pretty choked when betas show up on other Boards. I don't think they'd take too kindly to it being on their own.

  • Help - I cannot sync my calander for the 8830

I just bought this 8830 curve for my wife to uswe with her netscape / aim email. All works fine except for the calander in the options section under wireless syns only allows for the option of "no" There is no yes option for wireless sync - what do I do to fix - she needs her cal to sync real time.
Again its a netscape email account - mail and contacts work great.
    Leigh

This wireless sync is will be No option if you're a BIS subscriber. Only BES subscribers (Company setup) are entitled to have wireless sync.
You need to sync you calender  manually.
The following steps will help you to configure synchronization -
    1.
    Connect
your device using Desktop Manager and click on Synchronization
    2.
    From the
menu on the left click Synchronization under Configuration
    3.
    Again
click Synchronization button on the right which will give you option to Select
Device Application that you want to synchronize
    4.
    Put the
check mark and you'll get a prompt to Select Desktop Application
    5.
    Highlight
the application name and click next button
    6.
    Under Synchronization
Option you get Direction of Synchronization
    7.
    Check
the radio button with Two way sync
    Note: above
mentioned steps are explained as per Desktop Manager 4.5
    Example:
    Synchronize Address Book –
    Connect you HH with
your desktop Manager in your PC. If you device is set to wireless sync then you
need to turn off wireless synchronization. To do so go to Address Book
-> click Menu -> Options -> Wireless Synchronization: No
-> click Menu and Save the changes.
    Click on the Synchronize
button on Desktop Manager -> Click on Configuration Tab then click on
Configure Synchronization -> Click on Choose under Address
Book (on the right side of the pop up window) -> Click on you organizer
apps (like, MS outlook, Lotus notes etc) -> Select desired apps -> select Synchronization
radio button and click OK twice go

  • Poor Service Support for BB 8830

    Hi,
I have purchased a Blackberry 8830 (So called World Phone) and had been using it with Airtel Services in Delhi, India. After approx 3 month the blackberry service stopped working. According to Airtel, the service provider there has been a compatibility issue related to 8830, the dual system handset, which has been in the knowledge of RIM and is under resolution (> 2 months now.). There is absolutely no problem with their network.
So far no solution has been provided by either Airtel or RIM. I have lost count of the number of calls made to the helpline. Every time they are as helpless and clueless as the last time and they promise a call back within 24 hrs, which has never happened.
When the hardware and the network both have been by RIM, why the service has not been provided?
Does it mean RIM has supplied some junk handsets in the market which are useless and an absolute waste of money for the customer?
Doesn't that amount to cheating by RIM? I believe so and would be happy if RIM roves me wrong.
I have lost all the hopes from them and now consider the money spent on this handset as lost to some pickpocket.
Sharing this with this forum to save others from getting cheated, as I had been.
    Hope someone is listening.

Greetings, and welcome to the BlackBerry.com Support Forums.
It appears to me that you received perfectly correct techinical support, advising you to ge the BlackBerry Data plan on your mobile provider account.
The fact that you don't like that answer, does not mean that is poor or not helpful.
The need for a BlackBerry Data Plan on your device is mentioned quite frequently, at least on this website and carrier websites that I see. Perhpas you did not do your research thoroughly enough.
Anyway, now you know your answer. Good luck.

  • Help with downloading Ringtones for the 8830

Went to Verizon, couldn't download my ringtones.
Went to the User's Manual, told me to click on media, all ring tones, press menu button, then download tunes... problem is, there is no download tunes menu item.
Any help somebody could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Verizon is noted for blocking a number of standard features in the handheld OS.  I verified the steps you gave as correct on my BB, but I have a different carrier.  Suspect you may need to take it up with Verizon, or, if this is a company issued device, they may have requested Verizon to block it.
You can also download tunes by browsing to a website that offers sound clips.  When you click on the link it should offer to save it as a ringtone for you.  Try www.freeringtones.com, but any site that offers short .mp3 or .mid clips should work.

  • Software 4.7 for Curve 8830

I have been a BB user for 2 days receiving my phone on Friday. My phone came with BlackBerry Desktop 4.5 and I initially installed this version. Yesterday, being a web surfer I checked for updated software and found there was a 4.7 release which I downloaded, installed to my desktop and then connected my phone. It appears to have upgraded without issue but now I have a problem with mail and it is bugging me.
I have several accounts set up on the phone each of which has an individual Icon, however I am no longer receiving the * for notification on those Icon's only on the "Messages" folder which by the way I find extremely annoying. (Probably just me).
Why am I no longer getting the notification * on each account? Is this a known issue? I did not see anything else posted here. Perhaps playing with the new phone I have turned it off?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Welcome to the BlackBerry Community Forum!!!
Pull out battery from your device and keep it away for 30sec. Then put them together. Hope the problem will be over.

  • Firmware Update for my blackberry 8830 world edition with Bell Canada

Hi does anyone know if there is firmware update for the Blackberry 8830 world edition with the carrier being Bell Canada?  I am running version 4.2 and I know there is 4.5 but I am not sure if this applies the my phone with Bell Canada. When I boot up my desktop manager and checks for updates and says that there is no update.  I don't want to update if it is not necessary and not be able to run my blackberry.  If I am able to update where would I go to get the 4.5 update?

You have to repair Desk Manager or unintall and reintall DM, but this time uncheck "Auto update" and anything that refer to "update" the reason why I mention that is because everythime you run DM, it goes online and check for newer version and put this file "vendor.xml" in the Blackberry Common Folder, and with that file in place, it will block the program from installing the newer version from a difference cell company..
From what I see 4.2 is the only version that is up to date for a 8830...but if you have a 8820, you can update to 4.5.

  • BBBridge for 8830 World Edition

    I see BBB doesn't work on 8830.
Is there any chance 8830 will be supported in the future?
I got the PB expecting it to work with 8830 (without checking, toooo many things to check like Skype, darn....).
Seems wasteful & environmentally incorrect to be tossing a smartphone because of that.
Might make more sense to return PB & use tether.com with Mac.  Opinions?  Thanks
    Werner

Unless you can update your 8830 to OS5.0, there is no chance of using Bridge and I have never seen OS5 for the 8830. Sorry.

  • Can't get images and websites to load in my emails on my 8830

This is starting to  bug me but when I get emails the Images on my email do not load. some are too hard to scroll through all the html crap to find the actual email.
I am using the 8830 World phone through Alltel.
I am sure there has to be a setting to correct this, I just can't find it or I am not sure what to look for .

Look in Options >About.  If it's 4.2.x.xxx then you won't get any HTML email.
I was just searching around and it seems that nobody has yet officially released 4.5 for the 8830 yet.  However, if you Google you may find something.
