So confused with .mac, mobile me and iCloud!!!

I just want to merge the whole stupid thing into one. Now i'm trying to tackle imessage which will not accept either combination without spitting out a failed email or password error.
Is there any way at all i can have Apple merge all this services into one username and password that just works?

You can't merge different AppleIDs.
However, if you have an existing @mac.com or @me.com email address from MobileMe that you use as your AppleID for all Apple services (iTunes, AppStore, these forums etc), you can "move" that to iCloud and continue using the single sign on.
If you use a different Apple ID for iTunes and AppStore purchases to your MobileMe account, you can't merge them and will have to continue using seperate Apple IDs for iCloud and iTunes/AppStore.

Swing problem with mac os 9 and 10

Hi,
I've finished my first "big" application, a little french-lemmatisation tool. It works well on my PC but some people who have tried it with mac os 9 and X tell me it doesn't work at all ?!
I've built my soft with InstallAnywhere 5 (is that the bad idea ?). On mac OS9, it reports java.lang.NoClassDEfFoundError : javax/swing/UIManager (which is the first Swing element that is called). So it seems that the path is not correct. On mac OSX, it stops too (no message)... I've spent my day to try to understand what I should change. Without success.
Where do you think I should watch to correct the paths ?

I developed a application for MAC os/x and win plateforms.
To distribute my appplication on wins , i use installAnywhere but for the mac I use MRJAppBuilder to create a application.
Then the user has just to drag the directory from the CD to his desktop or anywhere else, and make an alias to the app on his desktop to lauuch the app.
MRAppBuilder is on every MAC OS/X, I think.

Problem opening files with Mac OS Mavericks and Elements

I have recently installed Mac OS 10.9.x Mavericks. Since this I have had problems opening files in Elements 11. I upgraded to Elements 12, blindly hoping the problem would fix itself, however it hasn't.   When I try to open a file the Finder window pops up then disappears immediately. Occasionally it will stay open until I scroll down but then closes.   I keep the files on an external drive but the drive is working with all other applications, so I don't think it is that. If anyone has had a similar problem and has any ideas I would be grateful as the program is unusable for now. Thanks very much in anticipation

Hi Sjmitc, I followed Barbara's instructions about only about 24 hours ago and since then my files have been opening perfectly. I tried it again before replying to you and they are still opening fine.
I did have to go through my files a couple of times to find all the Elements preferences, but the solution is working fine so far. I will let you know if I have any further problems. It is maddening when it happens, so I hope you can fix yours.

Henwen, Is this solution still working for you? I tried this same solution on mine a few days ago and had no luck. However, it actually let me open files this afternoon then when I went back in later today, it was doing the disappearing act again.

I have a problem with mi iPad 3 and iCloud.

I have a problem with my iPad 3 and iCloud.
First. When i try to turn on the automatico downloads of apps and music on my ipad ican't. I put on the buttons but they automaticly turn into off.
Second. I have an macbook with iWork and mi iPad has iWork too but i can use iCloud because the documents that i create in the iPad doen't go online.
I did a little research and i think the troubles are because apple didn't associate mi ipad with my apple id, i had retored mi ipad a lot of times and it doen's fix the problem.
What do i can do?

If resetting your iPad allows it to charge, but only temporarily, you may want to make sure that you have your data backed up and try restoring the device (you may want to test the charging before reloading your data). You may find the following article helpful:

Correct. iCloud is compatible with OS X Lion and later, so you won't have any problem using iCloud in OS X Mavericks even if one of your Macs is using OS X Mountain Lion. The only thing that iCloud adds in Mavericks is iCloud Keychain, so you can't use it with your computer with OS X Mountain Lion. Apart from that, everything should be working correctly.
Before upgrading, make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com

2 app accounts, mobile me and icloud account

I had a .me account (paid) and downloaded apps via the app store. now with iCloud i had to create a new account and i do have 2 accounts, how can i switch my app downloaded from 1 account to the other ? because now i do have to fill in my 2 password to update my apps.
The one downloaded with my icloud account will update automaticly when i put my iphone to the power, but my other apps (downloaded with my mobile me account) don't get the update and i do have to retype my password.

You are going to get more battery drain with the 2 push accounts. Try removing the Exchange account for one day and see what happens to the battery life.

Can't connect iMac/Leopard with Mac Mini/Tiger and vice versa

This one has got me tearing my hair out.
I have an Intel iMac running Leopard and a Mac Mini running Tiger on the same Ethernet network. Both run (adjacent) fixed IP addresses with common subnet mask and gateway. Both access the Internet fine through a single router. But can I share files between the two?
Neither has firewall turned on while file sharing is enabled. I can see each Mac from the other but when I try connecting first I get 'The server may not exist or is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again.' Then on clicking OK I get 'This file server is running on your machine. Please access the volumes and files locally.'
If I try connecting from Finder using Go - Connect To Server I get this error message 'The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "afp://MacMininame" could not be read or written.'
Although I'm running Leopard on the iMac now, this also used to happen when I ran Tiger too.

Fixed it!
I have Parallels installed on the iMac and it creates two virtual network adapters (Guest-Host and NAT) in System Preferences/Network. For some reason I'd foolishly contrived to manually configure the Nat adapter to the same IP address as the Mac Mini, hence the point-back to the iMac every time.
Guess we're all allowed the occasional foul up.....

The first alternative is a dual-boot arrangement between OS X and Windows provided with OS X.

   1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows
         XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7. For Boot Camp
         4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
         instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
         installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
         installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the

     4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows

         It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
         Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

SMS doesn't work with T-Mobile CZ and Palm Pre

Hi, there is my problem:
I bought Palm Pre from Germany. Everything works fine, but there is problem with sending messages. I tried to ask in Czech forums, PreCentral or my Carrier and no answer solved this problem. So I'm asking the core of the problem, Palm Developers.
There are some guides to get or change some carrier settings, but without any documentations. I see in \usr\lib\luna\CarrierNetworkSettings.db3 and /var/luna/data/CarrierNetworkSettings.db3 for my carrier this row:
And IMHO the highlighted box should be in column smscNumber. I tried this to change, but nothing get worked.
I tried this phone with my friends SIM cards by Vodafone CZ and O2 CZ and everything worked alright. The problem is only wit combination with T-Mobile.
I also downloaded new ROM from palm.com/ROM and there are same values.
And to my carrier: There is not much info about setting up phones settings, but the highlighted number should be ok.
And of course the error message. There are screen shots:
So guys, what do you think about it? Where is the problem? How to solve it? Can someone help? Is there any other DB from where phone reads settings?

Currently, we do not have T-Mobile listed as a compatible carrier for our webOS devices. I will still provide tips in resolving this issue but I just wanted to make you aware of this.
-Make sure the device is on the latest update. You may retrieve this data under the "Device Info" application. The most current update is webOS1.4.1.1.
-Make sure you have network connection.
-If the message extends past 70 characters you may have this issue. Also, if it includes misc. characters as well.
-Try restarting the device.
If the problem persists, we recommend contacting the wireless service provider for further assistance.

Can I use AE with Mac at home and PC on road.

Currently I use my AE at home to enable wireless printing with my airport extreme base station between my powermac, a mac mini and a windows laptop. The AE is configured using the airport admin utility on my powermac.
So my question is can I take my AE with me when I'm on the road with my win laptop and setup wireless internet in my hotel room. I'm assuming to do this I'd have to change the firmware in the AE to the windows version or am I able to just download the windows airport utility and not have to change firmware?

Yes you could take the AE unit with you, but you would only get wireless internet in your room if the hotel offered broadband through an Ethernet port. You'll find more and more hotels now offer wireless access in their rooms.
As you are wanting to change the functionality of the AE unit while on the road, you will need the Airport configuration software for the OS you will be travelling with. There's nothing as drastic as changing the firmware in the AE unit. You will find that the settings you left in the AE unit while configuring on your PowerMac will be re-configurable with the Windows Airport software. You can install the Windows Airport software on your laptop now and configure the AE unit just as easily as you can from your PowerMac.
