So do you need QT pro to compress a movie file

?
I'm on a budget , is there any shareware or freeware or some way (legally) of compressing my movie file(s) to a smaller size
please.

OK great.
Where can I obtain Streamclip? to cut the offending 48 seconds .I had a quick look on Macupdate but nothing came up
BTW you said that audio is puny and video data rate is absurdly high Is there a way when recording ( I use a Canon Digital Ixus 55 camera with movie capability) to sort this out to avoid this 'issue ' in the future? ( I know the audio is never going to be good on a stills camera but thought to ask as you seem very Knowledgeable .
Thank you very much for your help QuickTimeKirk it is very much appreciated , I can't explain how much ,, becca

Afraid Compressor won't work with MKV. If you have access to a system running an earlier version than Mavericks, and with Perian installed you can use MPEG Streamclip or Quick Time Pro to convert to a mov.

  • HT1657 do you need internet to watch a rented movie from itunes

Do you need internet to watch a rented movie from itunes?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
From my own personal experience, I have found that when I turn off the Wi-Fi on my Wi-Fi only iPad, I am still able to play rented movies on it. I have tried this perhaps four or five times and in each case, this has been the result. I have also noted that other users have had the same experience as I.
However saying that I have noted a small number of users that have stated they are unable to view rented movies without an Internet connection. This knowledge base article from Apple, also suggests that an Internet connection is required.

  • Why do you need WiFi to watch a downloaded movie?

I bought a movie on my Ipod touch and watched half of it. Then when I went to finish it, It would not come on due to "no Wifi connection". Why do I need WiFi connection to watch a movie I just downloaded?

There's downloading and streaming. And often hard to tell the two apart.
Downloading means that the files are stored on your device, streaming means that you simply access them, but need to be on the net to do so. It sounds like you were streaming a movie, not downloading one.

  • Adobe Acrobat X Pro ZIP Compression Creates Larger Files

    Hello,
I made a flyer in InDesign CS 6 which contains a fairly complicated vector image made with Illustrator. When I export to PDF, InDesign creates a file of the size of 26 MB (ish). I then run preflight in Acrobat which finds that the vector image isn't compressed.
Note that my PDF settings in InDesign are set to bicubic subsampling for colour images that are above 450 px and JPG compression.
When I tell Acrobat to apply fixes, it tries to apply ZIP compression but the file size is then 38 MB. Could anyone shed light on this for me please? There is obviously something basic about vector images and compression that I am missing.
It also finds elements that are completely off the board, although I didn't put anything there with InDesign.

Test Screen Name: After seeing your response I run a little test. I made a PDF straight from Illustrator just using that image then preflighted it and I got the same error.
I then opened that same PDF in Illustrator, a lot of that artwork was turned into images. I think it's the transparency flattener as I am converting to PDF/X-1A with compatibility for Acrobat 4 (which I should have probably mentioned in the first post but I didn't make the connection between the two). As far as I understand the transparency flattener converts an image into a mix of paths and rasters (according to Adobe's own help files.)
Preset used for preflight is sheetfed offset CMYK btw.

  • How do I get my MacBook Pro to recognise a movie file.  It plays on my PC and on the Windows programme installed on the Mac but I want to make a iDVD using this movie - it is a movie of my daughter's wedding. Ihave been able to make one using Windows Medi

Hi, I would like to know what suffix I need to put on my movie file so that I can use it in iMovie or iDVD.  The movie file has .avi on it and can be read on Windows Media Player but I cannot get it into a file on the MacBook Pro such as iPhoto or iMovie.  It says the file is unrecognisable.  Please can you help??

The free MPEG Streamclip and the free component from http://perian.org can convert your AVI to a format understood by iMovie.

  • Compress a .mov file

I know this has been asked a million times, but because I don't know anything about making movies to begin with, I couldn't follow any of the other threads.
I have a 120MB .mov file that I want to compress to less than 25MB so I can email it using gmail. I right-clicked and selected "Compress," but it only got it down to 99MB as a zip file.
My friend once sent me a video of similar length (3 or 4 minutes) that was high quality and only 11.7 MB, and since this one is bad quality I figured it would be easy to compress. But I can't figure out what to do or what program to use to do it.

    What applications do you have?
To do good compression, you need a compressor. Final Cut Studio comes with one as do a couple of the i-apps. There are some online compression systems, too, but I've never used one.
The "compress" operation you ran at the Finder level merely compresses the file, it does not actually create new media in a newer, more compact format.

  • Compressing Finalcut .mov file???

    Hi guys,
I need some help! Is what I'm trying to do even possible?
I can't export my FCP sequence using quicktime conversion (it keeps shutting down), so I exported it as a finalcut mov file. I then thought that perhaps I could use compressor to convert it to a high quality format that's compatible in iDVD. Any suggestions on what format I should use?
I've tried HDV 1080i50 and H.264 for HD DVD. Both worked, but when you view the file all you see is a white screen whilst the audio works perfectly. Why is this?
I also converted it to a "quicktime movie" which worked (I could see and hear it), but the file size and quality is so low that I can't use it on a DVD. Plus it's interlaced.
I've been trying to find a solution in Visual Hub as well but not having much luck. I keep getting the white screen.
Any ideas? Any help will be most appreciated!
    Chelsey

I've tried mov, mp4, mpeg2, avi, vob, dv
Nothing works. And usually I can watch dv, mov, and avi files at least fine.
Any other formats I should try?
These are the codec components I have installed for Quicktime (I also have Perian installed)
    HD -> Library -> Quicktime
    3ivxMediaExporter.component
    3ivxVideoCodec.component
    AppleHDVCodec.component
    AppleIntermediateCodec.component
    DesktopVideoOut.component
    DivX Decoder.component
    DivX Encoder.component (this one's a folder)
    DVCPROHDCodec.component
    DVCPROHDMuxer.component
    DVCPROHDVideoDigitizer.component
    DVCPROHDVideoOutput.component
    DVCPROHDVideoOutputClock.component
    DVCPROHDVideoOutputCodec.component
    FCP Uncompressed 422.component
    FLV.component
    IMXCodec.component
    LiveType.component
I also have in HD -> System -> Library -> Quick time
    ApplePixletVideo.component
    QuartzComposer.component
    QuickTime3GPP.component
    QuickTimeComponents.component
    QuickTimeFireWireDV.component
    QuickTimeH264.component
    QuickTimeIIDCDigitizer.component
    QuickTimeImporters.component
    QuickTimeMPEG.component
    QuickTimeMPEG2.component
    QuickTimeMPEG4.component
    QuickTimeStreaming.component
    QuickTimeUSBVDCDigitizer.component
    QuickTimeVR.component
Are any of these conflicting with others perhaps?

  • Premiere Pro CC Not Reading .mov Files from Screenium

    Hey
I have a screen capture tool called screenium for my mac. I use it to recorde gameplay and ever since I installed an SSD into my mac I have not been able to read these files .mov files, Premiere only sees the video as green, the audio is intact but the footage doesnt exist as far as premiere is concerned. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Premiere but the problem still exists.
On a nother note that is worth mentioning, sometimes this program does not compress the files as it is suposed to and I end up with 40GB files on my SSD. When I had an HDD I was able to open the files in Premiere with no problem and export them as smaller files.
    Any help would be great!
    Thanks

  • Premiere pro will not import .mov files

Premiere pro CS3 running on Vista 64 bit will not import .mov files. After Effects CS4 has the same problem, it says I don't have the correct version of Quick Time installed. I'm using the 64 bit version 7.6.4 for Vista. Any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum.
Now, what is inside that .MOV "wrapper?" This ARTICLE will give you some background on "wrappers." It is mainly written with .AVI in mind, but translates to most AV file formats, including .MOV.
Now, I use a lot of .MOV files and these are all done in the Animation CODEC. Never an issue for me.
One thing that might aid you is the US$30 upgrade/unlock key to QT Player Pro. It can Export as a bunch of useful formats/CODEC's. Depending on whether your footage is SD, or HD, you can Export most to formats that play perfectly with PrPro.
    Good luck,

  • Premiere Pro Suddenly Stopped Recognizing .MOV Files

I have been working on a project and it includes an .mov file. Never had a problem with that particular file or any others before. Yesterday, while I was working, Premiere suddenly decided it couldn't read the file and when I put the cursor on it, I got the "Media Offline" screen in the monitor. I like Adobe CC, but this is the second problem I have had this week and tech support is never there when I need it. Well worth the 50 bucks a month. Anyway, has anyone else had this problem? If so, is there a fix for it? I am using a PC
