So Exactly What's Different, Other Than More Memory?

The "just released" and long awaited new iPod touch seems to be pretty much of a dissapointment for most folks it seems.. where's all the anticipated features like the camera, or at least a microphone? Is the only real changes then just that it has 64Gb of memory? I can't believe that's all Apple did to upgrade the previous 32 Gb model!

50%? MEH.... if we were talking 100-200% ThAT would be something easily perceivable. 50% will get unnoticed by many.
You obviously haven't used an iPhone 3GS alongside the 2nd gen iPod touch then have you? It is most definitely noticeably faster in pretty much everything.
Processor speed is not the only factor in making a computer run faster. The iPod touch (Late 2009) and iPhone 3GS both have double the RAM of their predecessors, and that speeds things up immensely.
Apple, you are BORING me.
Simple answer... stop hanging around on these forums, and reading about what Apple are doing if its so BORING. Surely there are less boring things you could do?

What video codecs other than "avc1" will show .mp4 as a TV program in iTunes?
Some of my TV shows have the video codec "mp4v" and show only as movies in iTunes.
My Philips portable DVD player will play .mp4's with video codec "mp4v" but not "avc1".
I'd like to save only one format of the files. Is there a conversion or update that will allow iTunes to identify the "mp4v" as a TV show?

ALways go for the larger capacity with new apps coming out they will require alot more space if u havent got the space to use then what happens is you end up deleting stuff to make room alot of hassle ,more is always better...

How can I see exactly what is in "Other"?

I've read countless threads about the ongoing problem of the "other" category being inflated on iPhones. At this point, I would be content if I could just see the exact contents of this "other" category.
Let me be clear: I am fully aware that the stated purpose of the "other" category is emails, calendars, notes, text messages, some app data, "everything that is not 'audio, photos, or apps'". About a month ago I did a complete restore of my iPhone as new, to wipe out the ~5GB of "other" that I could not remove otherwise. Tonight I plugged in my iPhone to iTunes for the first time since the restore, and my "other" category is a whopping 3.17GB.
The most frustrating part about this is that I cannot find a way to view all the data stored on my iPhone in its entirety. If I go to "My Computer" and treat it as a flash drive, it says there's only 3GB left of 13.47GB but the only visible folder inside contains a mere 2.25GB of data. I have tried to show any hidden folders, but there are none that Windows recognizes.
I have downloaded several pieces of third-party software in an effort to find an accurate representation of the data on my iPhone. One such application, "iFunbox", seemed promising, as I selected the "Raw File System" view. However, the folders only took up 5.5GB of space.
There has to be another way to clear "other" than restoring a phone as new.

Having problems with Verizon iPhone 5 using excessive data. Verizon will not help can anyone give me advice? Have family plan never went over 8gb of data in 6 years, now avg 14 a month and are not using anything different other than having iPhone 5.

Switched to iPhone 5 on July 31st. Since then our data usage has doubled. Verizon will not help find out what the problem could be, they claim they are unaware of a problem. I told them to look on the customer support page and many have complained about the problem. Now on the apple site I see it may be an apple problem. Some one needs to fix this. Apple you want us to use your products, please do t make it cost us more money just to do what we did prior without problems. Prior phones were iPhone 4 and we never had issues and never went over 8 gb's for 4 phones. Now we are doing 14. Can anyone tell me what is going on. Getting ready to stop using cell phones all together.

Well you could Restore it from your backup and see if that helps. If it doesn't Restore it as new and manually add things back until the problem starts again.
I would also suggest trying a different SIM.
Without iOS 7 there is no way to isolate what is using the data.

BTW: The catalog backups done via Lr are not incremental, each backup contains the full catalog, not only recent changes.
Reminder: you don't have to fall back to the older catalog for *all* things/photos. You can judiciously import from older catalog if need be.
Put another way: backups are full, but restoral can be "selective".
Also, don't forget the role of xmp for augmenting a catalog backup - one can get some stuff from an old backup, then overlay recent xmp to restore recent edits. Not only that, but it's also possible to selectively restore some things from xmp, whilst leaving other things - granted it takes a text editor (if sidecar) or exiftool (if embedded) and some know-how.
No question: you burn less bridges by keeping old catalog backups too, regardless of who you are or what you like. How important that is to you (or whether it's important at all) is a personal thing.

I bought a new computer (Windows 8) and plugged in my 2TB drive containing 100,000 songs and iTunes won't recognize 5,000 of them no matter what I do other than re-encode them. Any ideas?

All I can figure out to do is to sort the "unknown artist" and "unknown album" tracks by album name (yes, it shows the name of the artist and album in Windows Explorer ironically) and then move each album's worth of songs to the library which then show up as Unknown - and then I can re-encode the tracks to go where they're supposed to be but all track number info is also gone so I have to edit each track to add track numbers. This is a nightmare of gigantic proportion that will take months to fix. It's like all of these 5,000 tracks (out of 100,000) were not encoded properly to begin with although I can't imagine how that happened since I encoded thme from CDs originally. What a mess! Any ideas? Please join in.
P.S. why do they never include iTunes itself as the option that you're having a problem with?

After setting up an mp3 player using my itunes library, all my songs are now in the library twice, I dont know what to do, other than delete them one at a time, and what did I do that would of caused this to happen.

I have an ipod with 1000 songs and I transfered them to a mp3 player, when checked my library for duplicates, all the songs appreared twice, now I am afraid to add more songs and sync my ipod.

Manually sync. This way, you will be making sure no duplicates will sync over to your iPod.

How do I stop music on my iphone 4s? When I want to turn off the music I don't know what to do other than pause it. Am I missing something?

Thanks for your help. I found out that there were many files of music that were in a different format then what you need to play on ur ipod, so they were just sitting there on it. When i deleted them all i only have like no more of that "other" stuff. Thanks.

What does this empty error box in iPhoto 11 mean (other than the QA on this app is non-existent)

Barnd new MBP OOB experience. More iPhoto issues. This time I tried to email a photo to a friend from within iPhoto. When I hit send I got the following error. (Tried to attach photo of empty error dialog box but to no avail.) So you will have to take my word that I got a pop up box with what appears to be an iPhoto error icon and no text.) Any idea what it means other than iPhoto continues to be the shoddiest app in the mac portfolio from a QA perspective???

Repaired Permissions. Same Dialog box. Can't email from within iPhoto on new MBP.
Why was I using it? Because that was my OOB experience with the new MBP.
Also I didn't realize I could use Image Capture with my iPhone. Image Capture is not available as a choice in iTunes. But perhaps that's what is meant by sync with a folder which I am now doing.
If so then correct, its not compulsory nor is it needed and now it has been eliminated.

Hi to have profilemanager working securely and correctly it should be run on 443 the default. But surely it could be run on another port if specified. If Apache was configured differently other than port 80/443? As i would rather host another site on 443. Which ideally i dont want the port number in the URL as this would be the main server address.
If anyone has any info on how to do this that would be great..

No, the isolation hardware on the 623x DIO is completely unidirectional so it is not possible to adjust the line directions beyond those specified in the user manual for those devices.

I am working on a piece for a Youtube video and I see where Youtube (as far as i can tell) allows up to 2gig of video size. I'm not even half done with the composition (video), but if I render it at this point its around 1.2 gigs as an avi. First, is it possible to compress the video? Second, I see where Youtube suggests mpeg4 for outputs. Is this possible in AE, or what format is suggested for a Youtube video? Thanks again!!

Other than more temporal resolution, it's usually an aesthetic situation.
For some, even file size is a reason (1 second of video comprised of 24 frames will generally be smaller than 1 second of video comprised of 29.97 or 30).

Just turn on iMessage... Settings > Messsages > iMessage > On
Note that iMessage uses data (very small amount) so you need a cellular data (3G/4G) or wifi connection for iMessagae to work. Also, in the Messages app, iMessages are blue and standard text messages are green.
