So far, so good!

I've been playing around with imovie09 for an hour or so and so far it seems much improved over 08.
Nice titles, new transitions, slow mo is nice.
Going to play some more......

Oh yeah, there's no question, it is TONS better! There are a few bugs and quirks (some which may be due to my ignorance on how things work, some due to this being a very fresh release) but overall, I think that iMovie 09 is a big win.

I loaded iTunes on a new laptop. I copied and pasted my albums to a 4G stick and down loaded them to the new laptop. Placing them in, Libraries – Music – iTunes and than in Itunes used File – add file to library. So far so good. For what ever reason one of the CDs would not load onto the stick. I got the orginal CD and loaded directly to Itunes. Now when I look in  Libraries – Music – iTunes it’s not there but it is in and plays in iTunes. What should I have done or should I be doing? Thanks.

It's not a unique situation - happens all the time, smaller hard drives getting filled up.
It's also easy to fix. I just moved my itunes content to a bigger hard drive.
First I made a backup of the itunes database file - iTunes Library.itl. Just in case anything went wrong.
Nothing did go wrong, but I'd have it in case anything DID go wrong. That file holds ratings, playcounts, Date Added, and other metadata.
Second, in itunes change the preferences > advanced tab to tell itunes to put everything on G:
Set the itunes folder location to something like G:Media or G:iTunes
This will affect all FUTURE additions to itunes and not do anything to the existing locations.
Make sure the checkbox for "Keep itunes organized" is NOT checked. I also left the "Copy files when adding" unchecked.
Third, to move all the files to G: without itunes losing the paths, run the File > Library > Organize > Consolidate command. This will need to run a while, so be patient as it copies all the files to the new G: location. This does NOT delete the originals. You will have to do that.
Fourth, make sure everything in itunes is OK and you can play stuff in your library. If you're really cautious you can run a script to check for missing/dead tracks.

    LizMaddock,
you can reset the input source to Spanish by selecting the Keyboard pane of System Preferences, selecting the Input Sources tab, and pressing the “+” button in the lower-left corner to select one of the Spanish input sources. The “Spanish – ISO” input source is most similar to the physical Spanish keyboard layout.

hello hi, i just won't to ask, if there has been any changes on how to find a stolen phone, did some one come up with a fare and good solution, new Apps. as it is not fare at all when some one could use it for free and there is a lot of things could be done to this condition, no one seem to care,
i have a story about my sister, am talking on her behalf, she got stolen her phone at a caffee when she just come from a horeble exam, she was very mad and having haedace for not doing well at the exam, i ask her if we could have coffee before we go home, once she sate; while i was getting the coffee for her, some one snicked to her pocket and took the phone, immidatly she feelt it and went on to searching, but nathing was hopefull. what makes it more heart braking is that she worked day and night just to buy the phone and pay for her books and so on as a student. she use to work 16 houres a day before she had to start school. 8 houres in one place and then to the other place. and she was always demanding for more houres to work; one day her boss saw her on her other job and she was serprised to see her and saied OHhh my God Milly if you work like this, i wonder if you servive, how could you also ask for more houres, My sis had to do it she has no parents or any thing, well the phone was taken after only two months of having it. the sad thing is she stile dream having it even though she can't think of buying againe. well me i have tryed a lot of things but i know some were out there there is a solution for people like this, it is not always fare for some one who has payed up to 800 to just loose his ......
    Thnks

I'm sorry, but your sister, unless she had already turned on the "Find my iPhone" feature and the person who took the phone has not disabled it, is out of luck. She should report the theft to local police authorities, including the serial number of her iPhone. While her experience is unfortunate, there are good reasons why Apple cannot do anything else about it.
I hope she gets her phone back.
    Best of luck.

  • 24" iMac - so far so good

I've now had my iMac for around a week and everything is great.
This is now my 3rd Mac (I also have a G4 MDD and a PowerBook) and I my overall experience is very good.
I don't have any bad or stuck pixels in the screen and the display is beautiful.
With regard to the noise issues that have been reported there is a faint hum from what I assume to be the power supply or fan and a buzz (again very faint) when the brightness is reduced. However I have to say that this is no more than the background noise I expect from any other electrical appliance such as a TV.
In computer terms it's the quietest desktop machine I've owned, especially after the Dual G4 MDD.
The migration from my G4 went seamlessly, although I did this manually rather than using the migration assistant. Everything works exactly as expected and in some cases has amazed me with the ease of which it ported my preferences and environments.
Overall I have to say that this is a great machine. Hopefully it will remain that way and I'll be pleased with my purchase.
I'm not meaning to decry those who have reported problems with their new iMac but wanted to reported a positive experience for a change.
    Cheers all.

I have to agree - so far so good. Mine is a BTO via a local mac dealer here in the Netherlands (Am Bridge - highly reccommended for all Mac stuff) I get some humming now and again, especially after the machine has been working hard, but it's not intrusive. Most of the time I've got music (iTunes or live feed) going on in the background anyway. I've installed Parallels because I need to use Garmin software (I keep checking their Mac blog, but still no sign of mac intel compatible software for for my BMW Garmin GPS) Have to say XP works better and quicker thru Parallels than it does on my wife's Sony PC!!
Overall the intel machines are extremely fast in all aspects and the big screen is a god send. I couldn't justify buying a MacPro and a big screen for what I use my Macs for. I really have no complaints with my iMac - I just love it!
PS. makes all my mates envious as well!

  • So far so good I like the OS as I did Windows 8.1

So far so good. I like the OS being a Windows 8 beta tester, now makes me really appreciate the finer quality of 10. Really great. Setup went well, devices were Windows 8 ready, hardware installed automatically directly from the OEM manufacture, such like
R azer, SteelSeries. Only complaint on setup is the fact of the transfer of my old account,  had no way to verify my code because I was  not able to use the internet right away.

Same thing here.  My setup experiences, on several VMware and Hyper-V hosts, along with a couple on physical hardware--including my primary, home laptop--was flawless.  I was even able to verify my code by checking email on my phone.  I
have already reported the positive experience via the official feedback tool (which could use a serious upgrade to allow attachments, spellcheck, etc.).

  • Re user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? - I've followed instructions so far so good, until I get to "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?

Re AppleMan 1958 excellent user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? -
I've followed instructions with success until  "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?
I installed MGEG Streamclip 193b8 and used their utility to install quicktimempeg2 and got a message stating it was successfully installed.  (I'm on latest Maverick 10.9.2 on iMac)  Then I dragged the VIDEO_TS file from my home DVD into the streamclip app.  It asked which of 4 files to use, and I selected the first one.  Streamclip played the video with the sound.  so far so good. but now I cannot figure how to use quicktime player 10.3 to export this vob file out of streamclip.

Thank you for your quick reply and for clearing up my confusion.  I'm exporting the first section now.  I choose the smallest size, 3x4 but I'd prefer to go higher as this DVD was originally a VHS home movie.  I'm wondering if after three conversions (VHS,->DVD->MPEG) the resolution will be so poor as to not support a larger size frame?  If it can, what size should I select when I export?

  • Maybe I'm just lucky, but so far so good with iPhone

First let me say that I feel badly for all who have had issues with their phones. I'm beginning to think that I just lucked out and there is no rhyme or reason for it.
Stood in line for 4 hours June 29th to get my iPhone 8 gig. Took it home and activated at 7:30 P.M. that night. No problems (was an existing customer). 2 minutes to activate, another 5 or so to synch, and it has worked as advertised ever since. No syncing problems either way from or to phone (calendar and contacts). Email has worked fine. I learned much from everyone here how to manage my battery life, and that has been fine too. Today lots of emails, a little web browsing, lots of calls, Blue tooth on, some wifi, but mostly off and got a little under 4 hours "usage" and total time of around 8 hours. 2/3rds battery left.
I don't think I've gotten the elusive "green glow", but the battery has always charged fully (plug icon). I have noticed one thing. If I plug the phone in to the ac charger for the night while it is still on and power off when the phone is locked the wheel spins for a very short time after the slider is turned to off. If I do the same with the phone on the home screen (unlocked) the wheel spins for a MUCH longer time. Almost like a reset. Not sure what this means, but again so far so good.
Having said and posted all this I hope I don't turn the phone on tomorrow and all **** breaks loose, but I don't think it will. I'm also confident Apple will address most if not all of our concerns in the next software update.
Good luck to all and thanks,
    CD3

"Syncing" is another way of saying "transferring" or "connecting" your iPod to iTunes. So no, you cannot put anything on the iPod without syncing it.
However, I think what you need is to set the iPod to manage your songs manually.
This will allow you to transfer songs and videos to your iPod and not erase anything that is currently stored on it. If you are going to delete everything from your computer after you have transferred it to the iPod ( a very bad idea), then this is the setting you need.
"why cant i play songs off my ipod while its connected to my computer, thats crap"
Again, "manual song management" is the answer.
    Not crap at all really.

  • Mac Book Week 26... so far so good

    Hi Everybody
Brief update on my personal small Mac Book-Odissey...
I got last friday the new Mac Book after returning the previous one for the known discoloration issue. So far so good but of course I shall wait a few more days of usage to claim "victory"...
I do hope that Week 26 got the plastic already changed, but I suppose I shall notice that in the next few days.
Apart the discoloration, the MB is "silent" and does not release too much heat in my opinion. Let's knock wood...

I think if you got more installed you won't be sorry! It's hard to do by yourself on that machine.

  • 6280 on O2 - so far so good

Well I finally got my Nokia 6280 upgrade from O2 yesterday.
So far I am pleased with the phone - charged it up, uploaded my contacts from my old phone. Have also bluetoothed a couple of mp3 ringtones that I made c/o Audacity from my PC. Have played games on that came on the phone, sent loads of texts and made a few phone calls and the battery is coming up for nearly empty.
I know I have only had it for 36 hours but so far so good (touch wood). Im glad that I went ahead with this phone, it certainly lives up to expectation.

    Everyone,
If you are having problems with the 6280 or any other product make a new thread for it. Otherwise you will end up with a very long thread full of issues that do not relate to the one you are having.

  • 3.1.3, so far so good

After one full day I can report at least for me (32GB 3Gs) I can definitely state that battery life is improved. I am not sure if it's due to taming of idle state processes or by improved battery use calibration, etc. Normal light-use day at this time (9:00pm) with 3.1.2 I would be around 65%. With 3.1.3 I was at 91% tonight. I've seen others report reduced battery life but I haven't experienced any problems at all so far and if this battery life is accurate then I could say this update is good. I'm dissapointed that it took Cupertino so long to release but oh well.

    Craig Best wrote:
I hope it improves battery life, I've only have my iPhone for a little over a week and with light use I'm lucky to get 2 days out of the phone.
I haven't updated to 3.1.3 yet (probably wait a week). But when I first got my iPhone 3GS in September 2009, I did notice for the first couple of charges & discharges that the battery life was not has long has what I get now (about the same usage has what your are seeing). So perhaps this is the same has what you are experiencing now.
Might be an idea to let your battery run completely flat (do this once a month thereafter) and then fully charge using an AC outlet, as I have read that charging via a computer USB, that some people find that the battery does not last has long as charging via an AC outlet.

  • After all this... so far so good!

So, I did a Erase and Re-Install of Leopard. Repaired Permissions and then utilized my Diskwarrior as there were still a ton of things out of wack. Well, knock wood, all is well. I have all the buttons back in my Address Book (original issue) as well as Safari/Mail and am now re-importing all my music/photo's. Of course re-installing Final Cut Studio 2/iLife 08 took quite some time but all is smoking good so far.
Thanks to everyone for the help and patience.

    Hi,
As I known, vmsal.exe is known as Windows Virtual PC Application Launcher. This executable manages seamless applications.  You will have one instance of this executable running for each virtual machine that has seamless applications running.
If you encounter difficulties with vmsal.exe , you can uninstall the associated program (Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs) for a test.
You may try to start Windows XP Mode in Safe Mode. If it works, please try to check it in clean boot:

Speed wise i was told i could only get Max 31MB by the nice lady on the phone.

  • Changed to BT and so far a good news story....

Just thought I'd report a pleasant experience as far as BB goes.  Even though I had sort of resigned myself to accept what I had been getting for the last few years ("nothing we can do because it's limited by the distance you are from the exchange, sir") I recently changed from Virgin spurred on by a 27% price hike.  The interruption of service was only a couple of hours, which was the first pleasant surprise (took 4 weeks for some reason last time).  Measures have been taken at random times of day and so far the results are a continuing pleasant surprise - see graph.

  • Win 7, 32-bit - LR 4.1 - so far, so good

Many of the coversations about the performance of LR4 seemed to point to problems with it running on Win 7 32-bit, and that you really needed the 64-bit version to run well. I kept putting off upgrading Win 7 to 64-bit, hoping that the LR4.1 release would take care of the performance issues. For me, it seems to have taken care of a lot of the issues. Minimal delays with sliders and faster image loading makes this a more enjoyable experiance.
The only problem I have encountered, so far, is the 'not enough memory' error when trying to export an image. However, I can deal with this for now.
Hopefully, no other issues will arise.
