So i am new to the Mac world, and just purchase a Macbook pro. I have a new Sony camera that i wanted to upload the software onto my Mac. Its a CD of the Sony editing picture program. I put the cd in the side slot, but how do i download and use it?
I need to figure out how to put this Sony cd picture program onto my Mac for my new camera. Im used to a PC, where it pops up and you download and can just click the icon and open the program. I have no idea where to find it or how to download it to my mac! help!
First, find out if the disc contains software for Mac OS X also, or only for Windows. This should be indicated in the camera user guide, or on the disc label. If it doesn't explicitly say it's for Mac OS X, then you have nothing to install (except possibly the camera's user guide in PDF format). You may try Sony's tech support site to find out if there is any Mac OS X software you can download. The camera's user guide or 'Get Started' doc should have this info also.

I just purchased a MacBook Pro Retina. Checked my OSX and it is version 10.8.1... trying to find a way to upgrade to a higher version. In the app store it doesnt show the update nor downloading the new Mountain Lion OXS doesnt work. Please help
hienn,
Not yet. There was an upgrade page to 10.8.2 for the late 2012 models but it's down now. I have to assume that Apple pulled it because of some bugs. I would look for something next week, more likely than not. In the meantime, the OP should be good with 10.8.1 until the update shows up again.

I just purchased a macbook pro and was wondering about an install disk. It seems to be missing some of the applications that should be on it from a fresh install. I was wondering if I would have to purchase a new OS and do a fresh install?
Ahhh, well you never mentioned that before. You need to contact your friend from whom you purchased the computer. He/She should have any and all install discs for any third-party software included as well as for OS X and the original pre-installed software.
Apple will gladly sell you replacements for any discs that did come with the computer originally, but they will not do anything for you because you purchased the computer used. If it's in warranty still, then you can get any warranty covered things taken care of through AppleCare:

Good Evening, I have just purchased a Macbook Pro, and have downloaded two SD cards of a trip to USA and Canada last September. One via Lightrooom 4 and the other via iPhoto. I tried to import the SD card via iPhoto into Lightroom 4 but could not find it. I tried to find this "folder"? via other means with no success. however when I open iPhoto, there it is, so it must be on the Hard Drive somwhere??? I am new to Apple having decided to jump ship from Windows. Would be grateful for any help.
iPhoto is a - like Lightroom - Photo Manager. It's a database. Like any db to get data out you have to export it.
File -> Export
and in this case set the Kind to Original.
iPhoto is a $15 app, LR is somewhat more expensive. As they both want to manage the photos there's no good usage scenario where you use both. Pick one horse and ride, essentially.

Just Purchased a MacBook Pro. What it the best Adobe product to get to be able to view PDFs?
Yes, Mountain Lion has a convoluted method to do a "Save as", but try this. Open the applicable PDF, from the "File" menu select "Duplicate". This will create a copy of the PDF file and highlight the name at the top of the page. Here you can type in a new name, and a gain from the "File" menu select "Move To" or "Save" to save the resultant, newly named PDF.

I just purchased my MacBook Pro in February of this year, I visit a celebrity blog website quite often using my Mac and I've noticed that once I am on that page it refreshes on its on and it'll open up a new window advertising Japanese dating. Is there a way I can prevent this from happening? My Mac is technically brand new, I am just begining to put use to it.

Hi, I have just purchased a Macbook, but my iphone is currently synched to my old pc. How can I now synch it with my new mac without losing all the apps/music etc on my phone? Ta
The easiest way is to copy the iTunes folder from your old PC to your MB (put it in the Music folder as a subfolder), along with the other valuable data on the old PC. Or restore it from a backup of your old PC. Then authorize iTunes on the MB to the same account you had on the PC. When you sync it will warn you that your content will be deleted, but it will be replaced with the same content from the MB. Before syncing you should also make sure there is at least one entry in iCal and Address book on the MB (assuming you sync to Outlook or equivalent on the PC) to assure that your contacts and calendar entries will move over correctly.
Al alternative that is less effective is to connect the iPhone to the MB without syncing, and choose "Transfer Purchases" from the iTunes File menu. This willl copy purchases music, videos and apps, but not ripped tracks from the iPhone to the MB. -
Dear all, I have just bought a MacBook pro with osx lion on 25th last month. I wanted to know if I can use the methods described above to update to osx mountain lion or I have to buy osx mountain lion from the app store?
Here are the rules to qualify for the free upgrade:

I bought the key..but how do I download the new version without purchasing?
I must be having a bad day. I can' figure this out.
Wanted to upgrade to 7.2 from 7.0. No big deal. I purchase the Prokey for 29.99. Order status is good. Says the key is delivered... I check the mail...Got it. Enter the registration.. no problem.
But how in the heck to download the 7.2 version? I've not downloaded any new software. When I start QT, I am still in the old version (with the registration key displayed). There is no prompt to download the 7.2 version.
In the Dowloaded Purchases section of my account at the Apple Store there is no link display where I can access the QT 7.2.
What am I doing wrong?
Many thanks in advance...

Entering the key unlocks the Pro features previously greyed-out. It's not necessary to download another version, though there will be updates from time to time.
Go to Quicktime Preferences to check you key is showing - it should say Quicktime Pro underneath the key field. -
Just Purchased a MacBook Pro- What is the Everything Else package?
Inside there's a 13-inch MacBook Pro Mac OS X Install DVD and a 13-Inch MacBook Pro Applications Install DVD- do I need to install them? What do I do with them? Thank you As you can see, I'm pretty much new to the Mac world so thank you for taking the time to answer me!
Just like with a PC, the CDs are included for the worst-case-scenario of you having to reboot the entire system. They're used if you have to clear the harddrive and re-install the operating system and basic programs like iLife. As to what to do with them, keep them aside in a drawer/folder or something so you know where they are and you won't lose them. Enjoy your Mac!
