suggestions. the controls don't work and the battery died really quick. a friend told me to take it apart rinse it off and let it dry for a few days but if i open it the warranty is void (i think). i don't want to take it back because i am on ipod number four in less than a year and the guys at the apple store are going to think something is up.

My recommendation is that you be more careful, and learn how to treat expensive pieces of technology properly. The ordeal you put yourself through sounds ludicrous. To contrast that, there isn't anything I own that looks a day older than it was when I first got it; technology products, books, anything. ****, I even still have an old IBM-compatible 286 machine in my closet that works perfectly in every respect. Pity they don't build such sturdy computers these days.
BTW, whatever Apple store you go to, they'll have a record of your history, including all the replacements you've received.

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I know that all of the songs are saved in iTunes on my computer. They told me that they were not able to retrieve the pictures from my device. I recently sync'ed my iPod Touch before it broke. Do the photos that I save on my iPod Touch save to iTunes or to my computer when I sync the device? If so, how do I retrieve those pictures from iTunes or from my computer?
Also, if I buy a new iPod Touch how can I transfer my songs from iTunes to the new device?

Photos taken by and saved to the iPod are included in the backup that iTunes makes evetime you sync or if do a manual or iCloud backup.
Per the following the backup includes:
iTunes: About iOS backups
Camera Roll (Photos, screenshots, images saved, and videos taken. Videos greater than 2 GB are backed up with iOS 4.0 and later.)
Note: For devices without a camera, Camera Roll is called Saved Photos.
Thus if you backed up after the photos were taken yuo can restore an iDevice from that backup

Hello i dropped my ipod in the toilet (clean water). Once i took it out of the toilet i pressed the home button and within a second it shut off! :( I quickly dried it with a towel and accidently pressed the top button! Hey Posada143, You can still try the rice thing, but do not expect much, as roaminggnome has stated. The rice only works if you do it ASAP and leave the iPod off-- do not attempt use, turn on or charge until it is completely dried out. This is probably academic at this point but remember this for the next time: The drying can take 10 days. You put the uncooked rice and iPod in a sealed bag, change the rice every couple of days. This creates a low humidity environment and draws the moisture out of the iPod, but it takes time. Turn your iPod on to earlier, and you run the risk of shorting out, damaging the components inside. Even if done correctly it can spotty. If you do get the iPod to work (and this may require Resetting, Restoring or attempting to place it in DFU recover mode) the first thing you do is make backups, because you never know how long it will continue to work. As for your pictures, if you can't get your iPod to work, you can try data retrieval companies, however; there is no guaranty it will work and it tends to be very expensive. In the future get in the habit of as making backups, because you just don't know. And invest in and use a water tight case. Hope this helps, Good luck. Cheers.

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Hello, about ten minutes ago I dropped my iPod Shuffle 4th Generation in water. this is what happened: I picked up the iPod, with the headphones wrapped around it (and plugged into the device). I think I must have only picked up the headphones and then they unwrapped slightly, causing the device to drop, because a moment later I was still holding the headphones but the iPod was HALFWAY into a mug of water. I wrenched it out ASAP - I think it must have been in the water for about 3-5 seconds. I ran two the bathroom and wrapped it in a towel, then ran downstairs and got a mug, filled it with rice and raced back upstairs. I unwrapped the iPod and paused to examine it (for about two seconds), found it was dry, then flicked the on switch. A green light came on and I immediately switched it off and buried it in the rice. I realised as soon as I'd turned on the device that I shouldn't have, hence why I switched it off so quickly. It took me a while to get the rice so the iPod must have been wrapped in the towel for about four minutes.
Thinking about it now, I think that the half I dropped into the water must have been the lower half - and therefore the part with no buttons or switches on the bottom (only half the ones on the front) because if I was holding the earphone cable up in the air, with the iPod dangling from it, and the earphone cable is plugged in at the top, the the iPod must have been the right way up when it was half-submerged. I figured this made a difference as the water probably gets in through the buttons (and headphone socket) most?
Infuriatingly, I only got the iPod yesterday. Plead help me - is there any advice? What should my next move be? The iPod is still in the mug of (dry, uncooked) rice.

I have downloaded the new software through Itunes, that went well, it came up as normal.
I have got it to restore to factory settings. (Although before hand it synced and all that)
During this process it has seized and not done what it was suppose to, only displaying the Apple Symbol.
I disconnected, and it has gone flat and now is telling me to connect it to power, when I do so nothing happens.
It won't connect to itunes.

Just get it serviced. Thats about your only option. Sounds like that 'short distance' knocked something loose inside.

Apple does not repair iPods, but will replace the entire iPod for a flat fee; see the Repair Pricing section here:

There are independent iPod repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipod repair". Some places also will sell parts and instructions for doing the repair yourself, but the connectors and parts are delicate and it's easy to cause further damage, so attempt this only if you are confident in your skills.
