So I got large video files that are hours long

Okay, I got these large 1080p video files that are hours long. It's a movie and I'd like to put together a movie review. However, my Adobe Premiere cant seem to handle the playback of these large files. Is this where preview files come into play? or something else?
I was wondering if I can edit it in maybe 720p or 480p and then render it out using the original files and 1080p. Is this possible? I was reading someone about a similar process some video editors could do.
Any help is appreciated, thank you.

How to play video files that are in Drop box on iPod?

I am going to have to write a technote about this, because it comes up a lot.
Flash Player itself is designed to play SWF content as a browser plugin or as an ActiveX control (when it's IE Windows).
There is a standalone Flash Player, but that's something Adobe  provides directly as a feature of Flash CS4 Professional. It gets installed with Flash. We have made some standalone players available on http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html, but not all (and I don't know why.  Looking into it)
There are numerous 3rd party standalone SWF players out there though.  Some designed to just play video, others that play full SWF. I suggest a google search of 'play SWF standalone' and read the results.
On the Mac, consumers who want to play SWF content off their desktop can use the Adobe Media Player. You can import a local SWF (and FLV and other video) and play it in AMP.  Get it here:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/mediaplayer/
That's Mac only, doesn't work on Windows.

  • Importing video files that are NOT from your camera

Is this possible? I have a video file in my library that was taken by cousin and I cannot for the life of me add it to my project. Please help!

I don't know what format you are using, but we also got a video from a PC that had been edited on that platform. By running it through a freeware program called Handbrake (this doesn't allow for URLs, but you can get it easily by searching Handbrake for video), I was able to convert the original format into a .mov file that would open in iMovie. You may want to try it. We tried some other programs to convert it, but HB was the only one that synced the audio correctly for us.

  • Does Keynote auto compress video files that are added to a slide?

I noticed that it takes a long time for some video files to be placed onto a slide in KeyNote. I am assuming that it is crunching down the size of the file in that process.  I noticed that if the file size is already small, as when open it in quick time player and export in a smaller file format, the file is rapidly taken into keynote. This is important to know so that we don't have to do the compressing in advance.

Keynote 6 converts video files to H264 files, if its an H264 file thats placed in the slide its unaltered.

  • IPhone 4S keeps playing audio from a video file that is no longer on my phone.

If I'm listening to music and try to change tracks or pause with the earbud buttons the music fades out and starts playing audio from a video file. It will only play about 3-4 seconds and then stop. This also will happen when double clicking the home button to try and change tracks. When I do that the track skipping buttons won't work and there's no title for the short bit of audio that plays. The only way to get music to start playing again is to go into music and press play again. The music I had been listening to is sitting there paused. The audio from the mystery video file still sometimes plays even when you're in music and the only way you would know is the little play icon at the top right part of the screen. I have removed every video off of my phone and it still does it. This is really frustrating.

Sounds like a bad battery.  You'll need to bring the phone into Apple for evaluation.
I'm sure you've been using your phone as designed and properly backing up your data, so you should have minimal, if any data loss should the phone need to be replaced.

  • How do I delete files that are no longer referenced in the catalog

Over the years there have been a number of files (~650 raw files) that got removed from the catalog but not from my hard drive. This has mostly happened because I used the wrong keystroke combination. But now I'm stuck how can I find and remove these files?
    Best strategy so far:
    - Use Synchronize folders to find files missing from the catalog
    - Reimport with a keyword - deleteme.
I would really rather avoid this because I really don't want to risk any chance of having these files back. Any other ideas?
    Cheers

This method won't work, if you want to preserve a custom folder structure, but I'll mention it anyway…
You could select all images in your current catalog and perform an "Export as Catalog…". Make sure to check "Export negative files" and "Include available previews" and select a destination folder for the export.
That will copy your catalog, the original images with all info, adjustments etc. and the previews. Once completed open the newly exported catalog and verify that all images were successfully copied to the new location.
If all went successfully, you can then delete your original images folder, which will get rid of all the non-referenced images in one fell swoop.

  • Can I re-download video files that are "pixelated"

I have a few MLB.com videos from iTunes, but some of the video pixelates and would be considered substandard. Can I delete the file from my iTunes and re-download the file at no cost?

Contact the iTunes Store customer support department through the form linked from the bottom of their web page and explain the problem to them. If the problem is in the copy they got from MLB, then they'll have to try and get a new copy which may take some time.
    Good luck.

  • I have iMovie '11, and I am unable to access mpeg HD video files that I want to edit.  The files are fine (I can open and watch them using VLC), but I cannot seem to import the files into iMovie. File Import does not work.  Any suggestions??

More detail: I have a bunch of mpeg HD video files that were shot on a SONY HDR-HC3 Handycam camcorder.  I would like to edit these into a single video production.  I can access and view the mpeg files using VLC (Quicktime does not work with them).  However, I seem to be unable to get the mpeg files to interface with iMovie '11 -- I cannot use the File --> Import command, nor can I drag-and-drop them into iMovie.
Is there something anyone might suggest to get this to work?  Or are these files incompatible with iMovie?  If so, I assume I must purchase a different video editing software program (e.g. Adobe Premeir Pro).  Suggestions???
Many thanks in advance for your time and consideration

Yes, I tried that.   The files were ordered by their original numbers as imported from the camera, but I batched them through Phocoshop to downsize all of them into a more manageable file size.   I opened that destination folder from quick time  from where it said select image sequence.   I clicked on the first one and opened it.   The result was a large image with an arrow indicating a movie was ready to go.   When I pressed the arrow, though, I realized it had only imported that one frame so there was no movie.   The files are Jpgs and are about 450 KB each.
To your knowledge are there any links to iMovie tutorials or quick time tutorials that may address this situation?  Maybe there will be one I haven't looked at yet.
        Thanks

Thanks for getting back to me, Andy. I followed your suggestion, but, with respect to the clips already incorporated in the cut, I got still got the same message, "No items have files that are applicable to this operation." BTW all of the clips used in the cut and not used have red diagonal lines through them indicating they are not connected to the media, which, as I wrote before, was corrupted irrevokably when my previous ext HD crashed. These media files were moved to new ext HD.
    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks for the follow up.
Missing in this equation were the version of Premiere Elements that you were using and the computer operating system on which it was running. But...
The deed is done. But.....Until now and after you went ahead and moved to version 12, we now learn what version of Premiere Elements you were using. We still do not know the computer operating system involved.
You just said Premiere Elements 10. Premiere Elements 10 is hit by a serious known display issue if the computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card. In this issue, the only remedy is to roll back the driver version to about May 2013. The description of the problem and how to do the roll back are described in one of the Announcements at the top of this forum. What video card/graphics card does your computer use?
On another front, Adobe will be releasing a new version of Premiere Elements any day now. No one but Adobe knows the feature set for the new version. That type of information is announced at the moment of release of the new version.
So the remedy to the problem that you presented in this thread could have been...
    1. Rolling back the NVIDIA GeForce driver version to about May 2013 if possible (Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit, may not be possible)
    2. Move to another version of Premiere Elements (which you did)
I offer the above for consideration so that you can review your decisions. We are pleased to learn that Premiere Elements 12/12.1 works for you.
Please do not hesitate to ask questions and ask for clarifications, but remember that the answers are in the details.
    Best wishes,
    ATR

  • How can clients view video file that I upload to my Creative Cloud area?

How can clients view video files that I upload to my Creative Cloud area?  Is there a special password that they have to use to gain access?
    Thanks for any guidance.

As a video professional, i agree and am VERY disappointed with this policy.  I attended CC presentations at various conventions, film festivals and meetups for a year-and-a-half before I made the leap to CC, and no one EVER mentioned a restriction to transferring video files.
Whether it's to save storage space or not, that's how it APPEARS to the end user.  Anybody who knows ANYthing about how video pirates commit their crime (which it most-certainly is), knows that there are plenty of FREE, untraceable (or nearly-anonymous) resources to carry it out.  The need for anyone to pay $30 or more per-month to do it with an acct that has their info attached to it is ludicrous!  If anything it's CONTRIBUTING to piracy to encourage creatives to transfer their material to collaborative parties using a less-secure, more heavily-trafficked third-party service than the one they're paying for exclusive use for.
Adobe's policy makers need to review this restriction and remove it or provide ANOTHER reason why it exists because this one doesn't fly.  And if it continues, make sure a disclaimer gets inserted in CC pitch presentations because likely half of the attendees are working with video.

  • What is the best program for splitting large video files (for archiving)?

I have just finished a project and I want to back up everything to DVD-R discs, including all my capture files and completed movies exported from Final Cut. Some of the files are 5 or 6 Gb, too large for one DVD-R disc.
I tried downloading a program called MacHacha, and did a test on one file, splitting it into 3 segments and then joining it back together with the same program. The resulting file should have been a duplicate of the original, but it was not. It was not even recognized by QuickTime Player as a .mov file.
What program do you use for this purpose? What program is reliable for this and produces a joined file that is identical to the original?
    Thank you for your reply.

Thank you for your help and suggestions. I tried a couple of experiments with a video file that has chapter markers. This was created in FCE using the "Export - QuickTime Movie" command.
One experiment was to bring the file into a new, blank sequence in FCE. Then export it right back out as a QuickTime movie. The resulting movie appears to be identical to the original, except that there are no chapter markers any more.
The second experiment was to make a duplicate of the original sequence which I used to make the movie in the first place. In this duplicate, I deleted everything except the chapter markers. I then brought in the video file into that sequence and exported it. The resulting file appears to be identical, and this one does have the chapter markers.
The only problem with doing it that way is that I lose all my edits. What if I wanted to edit something or adjust one of my original edits? I can't go back to that stage, with all my original edits, if I don't have all the original source files.
In addition, it's not clear to me exactly how I would use FCE as the "splitting program." How do you split a sequence into smaller parts?
All I really want to do is take a "snapshot" of the entire project, including all the source files, capture scratch files, etc. I don't need to back up the render files because those can easily be re-rendered. The entire project is taking up about 72 Gb on my hard drive, and I want to offload the whole thing. Even if it takes me 20 DVD-R discs to do it, that's no problem. Someone must have come up with a program or solution to do this.
    Thanks!
