So I got my SIM card and now im trying to activate it but its taking like 30 minutes and then failing. any advice?

Was the activation completed successfully? Verify that you're in coverage area with strong 3G or 4G signal. After the first fail I suggest removing the battery and SIM Card, leaving out for 30 seconds and then re-inserting and trying again. If the fails continues, it will be something on our end that needs to be reviewed.

Are you using a Mac? It sounds like you are using his computer to sync to. If this is the case, then it will sync to all of his stuff unless a new user is created with your personal stuff on it.
When you want to sync your iPhone to that computer, switch to your user first, and then everything will sync with your stuff. If he wants to hook up his iPhone to sync it, then he needs to switch back to his own username first. -
I just got an apple at&t iphone 4 and I have it unlocked. But I want to connect it to t-mobile, so I trimmed my sim card and once the phone was unlocked I inserted the sim and it says no sim, activation error. What can I do to fix this? What is wrong?

Yes you can. All Ipad's are unlocked and can be used any where in the world. Buy the AT&T version which is GSM in other countries

You bought the phone from this lady right and she did not turn off imessage. Try turning off imessage and restart the phone. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost). Wait a few minutes and turn imessage back on

Yes, the message is self-explanatory. You need a carrier who supports Apple's activation policy for an iPhone.

It cannot be traced. The service provider can block registration of the phone if it is a US carrier based on the IMEI. If you have the serial number Apple can tell you the IMEI. However, many stolen phones are shipped to other countries, where IMEI blocking for phones from other countries may not be honored. And a sophistcated thief or fence can change the IMEI.
If your friend did not have a passcode lock on the phone they should immediately change all passwords for email, twitter, facebook, bank sites - essentially anywhere that they use a password. Even if the phone had a passcode lock it is safer to change the passwords. -

I believe all cell phone carriers in Mexico are GSM carriers.
Will this be your first cell phone?
If not and your carrier in Mexico provides a nano-SIM card which is required for the iPhone 5S, you ask your carrier for the SIM card.
If a problem develops with the iPhone that requires an exchange under warranty, you will need to return to the U.S. to receive an exchange. -

That usually means your phone is locked to a different phone carrier than the one you're trying to use.
YOu would need to conact the carrier the phone is locked to and see if they can unlock it for you. ONly the carrier that the phone is locked to is authorized to unlock it. -

You did not ruin the phone, you will need a sim card to activate the phone and then connect the phone to itunes and do a restore from back up.
