So, i have an HDMI input in.

I have my HDMI input in my comptuter and in my tv. but the only thing thats showing is the desktop and nothing else. what do i do?

You have an extended desktop, what you see on the TV is a continuation of your MacBook's screen.  At the moment your MacBook's screen is the primary display.  To make the TV your primary display, go to System Preferences -> Displays -> Arrangement and you will see an image of two screens.  The smaller of the two screens has a small bar at the top of it.  This represents the menu bar.  Drag this small bar to the top of the bigger screen in the picture, and the menu bar and dock will appear on your TV.
You could also select 'mirror displays' but then you will not be making full use of the resolution of the TV as the image will be at the lower resolution of the MacBook's screen.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p.

If you can find such a thing.  I really doubt that exists since USB is a data connector not a video connector.
would allow me to run the audio through my stereo.
That would depend on this adapter.

  • My HD TV has two HDMI inputs which are being used by a home theater system and my RCN cable box. i want to be able to use my appleTV as well as those but do not have another HDMI input. How can i connect it so that i can use any 1 of the 3 at any time?

Get an HDMI switcher. Plug in the ATV directly to the TV and then use the switcher on the other input.

Ok.  I've answered my own question.  For anyone else with difficultites with a receiver, please read.
    1. HDMI connection has sound, so despite the manual's dirction that you need an optical cable for sound, this is incorrect.
    2. When connecting an HDMI cable from Apple TV to a receiver, you often need to "assign" the input on the receiver.  On my Denon AVR-590, I need to o under the menu settings, then assign the input to Apple TV.
Example:  I have run the HDMI cable from Apple Tv to my receiver, HDMI input #2.  I then go the the menu option on the reciever and assin the HDMI #2 to being active.
That's all I needed.  Hope this may help someone out there!  danny

  • Connecting Playbook to a TV without a HDMI input

I would like to connect my Playbook to a TV but it is a bit older TV, doesn't have an HDMI input. The inputs it has are DVI, RCA (yellow, red, white), component (red, green, blue), S-video and coaxial. Ideally, I would like the audio going thru the TV also.
What is my best option and what accessories do I need? Thanks.

try an hdmi <-> dvi adapter
My W-Lan is completely secure. Wether I nor a hacker would use it with a playbook

  • Apple TV and TV without HDMI input?

    Hi,
I have a TV that doesn't have an HDMI input. I have an Apple TV connected to it using a HDMI-DVI convertor and everything seems to be working fine. When I download a movie and try watch it, it doesn't play. Could this be because the Apple TV is connected to the TV using the HDMI-DVI converter?
    Kind Regards

yeah itunes movies require hdcp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection
some versions of dvi support that but if the version your tv has don't you're out of luck

  • No HDMI input available on TV... Ideas?

    Ok... Here is the scoop.
I have no HDMI input on my big screen (bought it just before HDMI was standard), but there are several other possible solutions - I just don't know which would work best.
Choosing between composite, component and DVI, which would provide the best quality picture and sound for use with my new AppleTV? Or perhaps you have another suggestion.
Just remember the AppleTV only has an HDMI output.

As Macaby indicated, if you have an optical audio input on your TV, an HDMI to DVI cable is your most inexpensive way of connecting (I would recommend Monoprice for the cable--I have one that connects my MacPro to my LCD monitor which is HDMI).
If you need analog audio out from the new Apple TV, check out Monoprice--they have an HDMI switch that is remote controlled and takes an HDMI input source (the new Apple TV) and outputs analog audio and HDMI--you will still need the HDMI to DVI cable.
I use the Monoprice 4 into 1 HDMI switch with toslink audio output because I needed additional HDMI inputs (my Sony Bravia's 3 HDMI inputs are already taken up by HD DVR, BluRay, and Xbox 360) and needed to consolidate input sources to one digital audio input on my surround sound processor. It works very well--the switching is a bit slow--takes about 5-7 seconds to switch from one input device to another (which is a bit slower than my TV's internal HDMI switch), but the price is very reasonable at under $50 vs. hundreds of dollars for a high end HDMI switch.

  • I have a late 2011 model MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion.  I love the AirPlay mirroring feature with Apple TV...BUT, how do I mirror with TVs that don't have Apple TV?  I used to run a cable from my mini display port to the HDMI input of a TV.

I have a late 2011 model MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion.  I love the AirPlay mirroring feature with Apple TV...BUT, how do I mirror with TVs that don't have Apple TV?  I used to run a cable from my mini display port to the HDMI input of a TV.  This feature seems to be lost in the Mountain Lion upgrade.  Did Apple feel that once Mountain Lion came out that EVERYONE would have Apple TV?  There are no settings in System Preferences/Display like there used to be...only for AirPlay Mirroring.

Running a cable to the HDMI port is still supported. (and still works on mine).
If the Arrangement tab in System Preferences > Displays isn't present then it doesn't recognize the physical connection.  Double check all cables.  If that doesn't work try a PRAM reset:

  • How do i connect my hp 610-1130a to my tv as a second monitor. i only have hdmi inputs on my compute

How do I connect my computer to my TV as a second moniter. I have a HP 610-1130a touch screen running windows 7.
It has 2 HDMI in ports.

Here are the specs for your HP TouchSmart 610-1130a Desktop Computer. You are correct in stating that it has 2 HDMI inputs... these inputs are used for connecting devices like XBox, PS3, DVD payer, Blu-Ray player, etc., so that you can watch/play them on your computer screen. Your computer, in fact, doesn't have a video output of any kind (VGA, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.). You will need to purchase a USB-to-video adapter such as the EVGA UV Plus+ UV39 to use your TV as a monitor.
Please note that if you wish to "extend" your Windows "desktop" to your TV, you will need to disable the touchscreen as issues controlling the cursor will occur. If you wish to "copy" or "duplicate" the image on your computer to the TV, the touchscreen should function as normal.

  • How can I do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder which does not have firewire out/input? it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite RCA output?

I need to do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder (http://store.sony.co...ber=HDRAX2000/H) ..this camcorder model does not have firewire out/input ..it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite A/V video output..
I wonder how can I plug this camcorder to the firewire port of my laptop? Browsing on internet I found that Grass Valley Company produces this converter http://www.amazon.co...=A17MC6HOH9AVE6 ..but I am not sure -not even after checking the amazon reviews- if this device will send the video signal through firewire to my laptop, in order to live streaming properly? ..anyone in this forum could help me please?
    Thanx

I can't broadcast with the built in iSight webcam... how would I zoom in or zoom out? or how would I pan? I've seem people doing it walking with their laptops but that's not an option for me... there's nothing wrong with my USB ports but that's neither an option to stream video because as far as I know through USB you can't connect video in apple operating systems ..you can for sure plug any video cam or photo camera through usb but as a drive to transfer data not as a live video camera...  is by firewire an old interface developed by apple that you can connect all sorts of cameras to apple computers... unfortunately my new sony HDR-AX2000 camcorder doesn't have firewire output...

You really need a newer Mac Mini with a true HDMI output, because that Mac Mini's DVI output does not support Audio.
You might try a 3.5mm to RCA adapter
from the Mac Mini's headphone jack to the TV's audio input,
but that would require being able to select the Audio input in the TVs menu while using it's HDMI input.
Optionally you could also use an external 2.1 Speaker System or patch the audio from the Mac Mini to your home stereo system to enhance that older Mac Mini's audio.
