So, I made the mistake of updating Garageband 09 to GB 11 without exporting my songs first. When i try to open one of them it freezes up and won't respond then the program crashes.... any ideas?

You can get a first-gen Mac Pro on eBay for around $300. It can run OS 10.4 through 10.7. Something to consider, depending on the cost of a logic board and the hassle of replacing it. Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

That depends on why it won't open. Most of the time it means the file is corrupted and unlikely to be recovered. If you saved it right after adding or copying a LOT of layers - then it might just be the layer limit and we can attempt to recover it.

But have you run the the iPhoto Library upgrader? It is installed in Applications > Utilities. Launch it and direct it to your iPhoto library.
Which version of iPhoto did you upgrade from?
The upgrader is only necessary, if you have been running iPhoto7.1.2 or earlier.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

If the above doesn’t do the trick entirely, then use the instructions in the following as it applies to the version of Windows you are using:

You may be required to boot into safe mode to complete the folder deletion process.

Quite honestly, a step by step guide to install Windows into Parallels could be needed by some basic or novice users, as well!
My point is to not scare aware a user with a problem where a potential solution exists.
This is especially true because some of the few, but vocal, "naysayers" about this approach would use your statements to validate their continued criticism of it.
One guy in particular criticises every option other than upgrading to Mavericks compatible software, even when the OP clearly expresses a problem where that option does not exist! ... and he was an early and very vocal proponent of the "installing Snow Leopard into a new partition - 'dual-booting' solution" when Lion was first released back in 2011!

First I notice your icon was gone so I figured I'd moved it by mistake. I put it back, but most of my bookmarks were gone. I then noticed I had two icons, one on right side one on left of my Mac. Tried to download new version. Didn't work, went to preview? Weird. Tried the version that's for Yahoo. That seemed to work, my bookmarks were back, but today it says that's an old version and I must update if I want to open something from Firefox from my email. So I did and once again I had two icons on page. It has done this a couple times. So I'm going in circles. I used my IPad this morning to check my internet. When I came home this afternoon, there is a message that says IPad hasn't been backed up in 2 weeks. Backups happen when this IPad is plugged in, locked and connected to wifi. I have plugged it in and it is connected to wifi. There's a bunch of people having this problem since iOS 8 came out. It seems to be affecting iPhones, but perhaps the iPad is having the same issue.

How were the PDFs created and check if the fonts were embedded (under File> Properties> Font)
