So, I take it CS4 Bridge is not 64bit?

The reason I ask is that when I insert a memory card, auto-play for Bridge isn't activated. It is for LR 64bit. So, I'm assuming that Bridge is not 64 bit.
Why and will it be in a future (free) upgrade?

>What type of information were you looking for?
How about "information" which neither post offered. I know it's difficult to write an app in 64bit. I know it's difficult to write it in 32bit, and I'm sure 20 years ago writing one in 16bit was a PITA, too. When I programmed basic to make one little block move two blocks over, I would have much rathered been drinking a beer on a quiet beach somewhere. But all this stuff happened (even the beer drinking).
Now, Photoshop and LR is 64bit. I wondered why and when Bridge might do the same thing. We were given a "why" PS is 32bit for Macs instead of 64bit. I just wondered if there were a "why" for Bridge--especially when LR is 64bit and is very Bridge-like.
I was looking for information, not castigation. Simple request, not that deep.

  • How come CS4 Bridge does not offer Photoshop batch operations?

I have had tons of problems with CS4 on my desktop PC but seem to have most of them resolved with a new video card and updated driver except this one.  If it matters I'm running Windows XP service pack 3, 4gb of RAM of which 3.4 is available.  It has an 2.67 GHz Intel Core2Duo cpu.
While in Bridge, under the "tools" menu, there no longer appears an option for batch operations such as I had with CS3.  In CS3 it was the bottom option of all those listed.  The only batch operation offered in CS4 is batch rename.  I want to run Photoshop actions on multiple images selected in Bridge but cannot since this option is not being offered.
I have deleted preferences and rebuilt them several times, and uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop itself so many times that the CD is almost worn out.  I have also upgraded CS4 to the latest upgrade on the Adobe site, 11.0.1.
I've done everything I can find to do but still not fixed.  Anybody out there know the answer?  This has not been a smooth transition and is very frustrating.
    Thanks

OK, let's see how good you REALLY are...here's a new one.  Well actually not
a new one, but it went away for so long I thought all the other things I've
done corrected it (CS4 update and video driver update).  It's back with a
    vengeance.
The brush tool stops working for no apparent reason.  If I shut down
Photoshop and restart, it works.  As long as I'm working on an image, it
works.  Sometimes it will continue to work for several images.  Other times
it will not work on the very next image opened.  Earlier today it worked
fine for multiple images until I printed some, then stopped.  I thought it
had something to do with printing so I shut down, restarted and worked
without making any prints.  Again worked OK for a while and then stopped.
This is true for all brush type tools...paintbrush, clone, healing, etc.  It
seemed like if I opened files directly from Photoshop instead of via bridge
that I had more success but now this evening it will only allow me to work
on a single image.  If I close an image and open a new one, no brush
function no matter how I open it.   This is just the way it acted up before
but then went dormant as I noted above.
There is no pattern or repeatability to it that can help me home in.  By
that I mean, tomorrow it may indeed work fine for hours and then go wacky
again or it may go wacky on the first image.  I thought it may have been a
RAM or some other cumulative type problem but this is shot down by the fact
that it will at times stop working immediately while other times work for a
    long time.
I'm at the point where the only thing I can think of is it must be the
computer.  I installed CS4 on an old clunky laptop and it works fine.  I
installed the 30 day free version on this e-mail computer just as a test and
again it worked fine.  On my super duper photo editing PC, it just won't go.
I didn't realize that I'd have to add the cost of a new computer into the
cost of upgrading to CS4 because the computer is not that old and definitely
not a clunker as noted in my original post.  I'm already out about $200 for
two new video cards and still no luck.
    Any ideas?

  • Photoshop cs4 bridge, getting not enough storage message.

I have a computer that the motherboard died a couple of weeks ago. The motherboard and processor have been replaced as well as upgrading the ram from 4 gb to 12. We were able to use the old hard drive with no problems, maybe, just booted it up yesterday and am still working things out. Photoshop cs4 was installed on the computer and it seems to be working fine, except that I'm getting "not enough storage" messages when I try to do things I was able to do before the colapse. One thing I've noticed is that in the 32 bit version of Photoshop preferences it shows around 3 gb of ram available while the 64 bit version shows the full 12gb. Is this typical? and if not why would it be showing up this way?  I'm not sure that has anything to do with the problems with bridge it is a stand alone program now. Anyway, does anyone have any idea what could be the problem with this? Would uninstalling and re-installing the programs help?
Windows 7 Home Premium  64 bit system
    12 GB RAM
I'm not sure what else would be needed about the computer, let me know if there is anything else.
    Thanks for any help,
    Linda

Is the "not enough storage" error message showing up in Bridge or Photoshop? I ask that because it seems to be a Bridge error message and the Bridge forum could better handle that.
If Photoshop is giving you this message, check your Preferences > Performance and see that the ram allocated is not more than 65-70% of total and look at your scratch disk allocation in that section as well.
I would also consider resetting Photoshop's preferences. Sometimes that clears up problems, and of course be sure you install the latest CS4 updates.
I'm assuming you have to use 32 bit Photoshop CS4 (example32 bit third party plugins).  If not use 64 bit CS4 and see if that works.
I'd heed the upgrade advice as well. After December, CS4 to CS6 upgrade price will increase from $200 to $700.

  • CS4 Bridge does not open JPEGs in Camera Raw 5.6 which is grey

I downloaded Camera Raw 5.6 onto my iMac (Snow Leopard).   I have an Olympus E-620.   ORFs (raw) open in bridge, but the Camera Raw is greyed out in the file menu.   Also, Camera Raw does not show up under "open with".   My husband has iMac (same configuration) - his Camera Raw 5.6 shows up and he can open up JPEGs in RAW, which I cannot.   I checked his settings against mine - seem to be the same.   Suggestions???

Purge the cache for those folders and if that doesn't work, trash the Preferences for Bridge.

  • CS4 Bridge do not show changes to nef file ?

If I in Bridge opens a nef file into Camera raw and make some changes to the photo, then I can't see in Bridge that the photo have changed. I can see the little grey circle that tells the photo have been changed, but the photo still looks like the original. If I then open the photo into Camera raw, the photo shows up with the changes, but in Bridge nothing have changed - how can this be ?

I believe that you do not see the edits in the thumbnails in Bridge because you have quick thumbnails selected.  The preview refers to the low resolution non-colored managed source file.  If you select HQ thumbs you would see the changes in  Bridge, but the thumbnails can be slow to display depending on file info and computer speed.
A good compromise is the Convert to HQ when previewed if you want to view the changes to NEF.  The thumbs are quick version until previewed, then converted to HQ.

  • I know it's old but CS4 Bridge will not open 5d Mark II files...oh man.

Okay, I know this horse is dead but I just cannot figure it out. Adobe says to drop the raw converter file in: Navigate to Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS4/File Formats. The problem is, when I get to Adobe, there is no Plug-Ins folder. That's the step where I am stuck. I'd appreciate the help and feel free to contact me offline. Thanks.

    > Your post is totally blank —as are many messages sent to this POS forum by email.
I've had posts void of content but it's only been here that they've been completely blank. Couple this with the fact that RSS randomly drops messages and my enthusiasm for the Adobe forums continues to wane.
Here's what I tried to post. Thunderbird, fortunately, saves outgoing mail in a sane fashion.

... correctly associated with the +username folder+ by any sane definition. I didn't mean to imply that that the ~/Library path was the correct one I was just comparing it to the /Library path.

Prolly right on that point.  I've written enough installation instructions and regardless what they are, someone will get confused. Vista's new layout hasn't helped and I'm sure things won't improve with Windows 7.

  • Bridge does not see both external hard drives

In either CS3 or CS4, Bridge does not recognize my second external hard drive. Photoshop and lightroom see both drives. I am using a laptop and Windows xp.
    Thanks,
    mIKE

Those directories are modified in the User Preferences tab in the Setup Room.
When you've got the file tree dialogue box open, you'll need to point Color to the "Volumes" level, once there, you should see your external drive.

  • Photoshop CS4 Extended will not open file from Bridge.

This is 2nd time this has occurred.  Last time I uninstalled CS4 and re-installed to fix it.  Prefer to not do that again.
System: XP Media center, SP3,  3 GB memory, Athlon 64x2.  Generic - motherboard graphic card.  18 GB disk space remaining.
Typical work flow is edit DNG files in Lightroom.  Once done, select DNG files in Bridge and under Tools run the Photoshop Image Processor which changes color profiles, sharpens and converts to JPEG and saves.  Done this probably a thoudand times.  Ran a batch Sunday afternoon fine.
I may have interrupted an Image Processor batch that was just starting and glitched something.
Now Bridge will open Photoshop but nothing gets imported with the Image Processor.  Also Bridge will not run a Batch.  Bridge will open Adobe Raw for editing a DNG but cannot load it into Photoshop.
Once I try any of these things, Photoshop will usually not close/exit and many menu items are shaded out.  For example, opening a file or starting a new file is not available.  Activate/Deactivate not accessible.  Can Deactivate and Activate through InDesign. Photoshop seems OK otherwise if re-started after re-boot.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you.

So far, no good.  Here is what I have done and current symptoms.
    1) I backed up all the settings and workspace files, then deleted them.  No change.
    2) No matter what I do, everytime I hold down the control, alt and delete keys when starting PS CS4 all I get is the Windows start settings "Adobe Photoshop CS4 Properties" box where you can select "Target" and "Start In" paths.  I do not get any dialog or confirmation to reset anything.
    3) Bridge successfully reset preferences using the Control key while starting it up.
Everything about Bridge has appeared to function corectly before and after these changes.  But when the Tools/Image Processor or Batch is called, it starts Photoshop OK but nothing in imported to be processed.
Photoshop opens (either from import or stand alone start) with menus partially functioning.  Under the file tab, nothign important works.  Cannot open a file, cannnot start a file, cannot exit - all grayed out.  But keyboard shortcuts do work and I can open a file or start a new file using the shortcuts.  Once I get a file open with the keyboard shortcut, most of the menu functions come back under the file tab and can be used and can exit PS.  The "X" in the upper right corner to close the program still remains greyed out and not functional.  The Activate/Deactivate options under Help remain grayed out.
    4) I deactivated the Suite from within InDesign and the I uninstalled only PS using the Windows uninstall utility.  I reinstalled PS from the CS4 Suite which of course reinstalled Bridge and some other utilities.  I reactivated from within InDesign and ran all updates from within InDesign since updates were still grayed out in PS. Encountered an error (Adobe CSI CS4 1.0.1,Adobe Drive CS4 1.0.1,Adobe Extension Manager CS4 2.1:Failed to install.)
    Problems still exist as described.
    5) Finally I deactivated again from within InDesign and re-installed the whole CS4 Suite without uninstalling anything before hand. I noticed that process did an uninstall before each module was re-installed.
Problems still exist as described above.  I did notice that Photoshop showed itself still Activated (but grayed out) in the help menu even though I had previously deactivated the suite before the re-install.  Ran complete Updates from within Bridge.  Encountered an error (Adobe CSI CS4 1.0.1,Adobe Drive CS4 1.0.1,Adobe Extension Manager CS4 2.1:Failed to install.) but continued on. Everything else updated OK.
I looked through the registry settings for the settings path as noted in referenced forum links and all looked correct.
Additional Notes:  I installed the OnOne Plugin Suite 4 a few weeks ago.  Everything has run smothly since then until this problem poped up.  After the Uninstall/reinstall the OnOne menu option appears as normal.  As do my old Nik plug ins.  I doubt this has anything to do with the issue.
Any more ideas outside of starting all over on a clean drive/machine which I really dread even contemplating?
    Thank you.

  • Bridge will not open CS4

    hi,
I'm having a problem opening CS4 from bridge. Right clicking a thumbnail in Bridge does NOT give me the option of opening the image in CS4,I have to open it in ACR and from there open it in CS4.
OS system is 32bit Vista, and I have tried the resetting thing already.Im sure it must be a prefence setting somewhere I just have not been able to find it.
    thanks,,

Have you made sure all the scripts are ticked in Bridge  Edit > Preferences > Startup Scripts?

  • Bridge CS4. Tools not revealing whole menu

I have installed and reinstalled CS4 bridge/photoshop several times but not all of the Tools menu options are showing up. As it stands, only these appear:
    Batch Rename
    Create Metadata Template
    Edit Metadata Template
    Append Metadata
    Replace Metadata
    Cache
As I understand there should be more batch operations including the Photoshop operations?
    Thanks.

At the end of that row you mentioned should show Photoshop with a little
triangle. Pressing on this will provide a submenu with batch / HDR
    Photomerge etc.
If you don't have that first check Bridge preferences and see if under the
chapter startup scripts a checkmark is showing in front of Photoshop. If not
press on it and restart Bridge and you should be OK
If it is there or there is no Photoshop at all first try to restart Bridge
with holding down option Key and choose refresh prefs. If still no luck you
have either installed in the wrong place or a bad install. But you should
provide more details about system and place you have installed
As I understand there should be more batch operations including the Photoshop
    operations?

  • Bridge will not launching on PS CS4

I have windows XP.  Bridge will not launch for CS4.  We have tried to restore to a previous version, uninstalled and installed the program.  Restored the previous versions of my plug in software.  Bridge still wont launch.  I can still gain access to my images through the control on the dropdown menu to open.  Bridge is just a lot faster and more convenient.  If anyone has any suggestions are can help that would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Bridge CS4 has a Open at login option where it will open when you launch Windows. It will be in the system tray.
    In Bridge:
Edit>Preferences>Advanced, "Start Bridge at logon"   then restart Windows.
If that fails see if anyone in the Bridge forum can help. Bridge General Discussion

  • CS4 Bridge Error Message-"The operation couldnot be completed. Not Enough MEMORY ERROR MESSAGES

    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3469769
I originally posted this in Photoshop but employee thought expertise was lacking in that forum and that I should move my question to this one.
Seems very few Adobe CSx users use Bridge....go figure!
Anyway getting error messages that there is not enough memory in Bridge to continue and I must restart Bridge.
Refer to the above link for original question and all pertinant computer data.
Seems this is a very prevelant problem in both the PC and MAC environment but Adobe has felt not important enough to help(see employee comment or lack thereof).
    Any help would be appreciated.
I am not real "computer" saavy so please speak so("Idiots Guide To Adobe Bridge ; >) )

Apparently not.  I'm still seeing it in the Photoshop Windows forum - though it's anyone's guess WHAT you'll see with this Jive Turkey forum software.

  • CS4 Bridge Keywords - Delete when Bridge is close.

    Greetings
I have gone through and applied keywords to hundreds of images, along with a respective Hierarchy KeyWords as well. As long as Bridge remains open and my computer is on I have access to sort, and find files based on Keywords.
"Close Bridge" : and all Keywords are missing from Keyword pane, excluding the few that are present with Bridge as examples that are always there.
I can, re-select all the images, and the keywords will load again into the Keyword pane, but that takes about hour to manage.
It is like some preference file is not being read, or the Keywords are not saved to the Keywords pane. I have loaded again this App from Photoshop CS4.
One person suggested I go into Preferences and un-click "Read Hierarchy keywords" then open all my image folders and again click on the images to reload the keywords into the Keyword pane again. Then go back to preferences and re-click Read Hierarchy Keywords again, and that everything should be in order. I have done this twice, once with starting Bridge again before re-clicking RHK button again.
Still after two years of having Bridge CS4, I can not used this function to search for images.
And yes, I do select a folder or mounting disk for Bridge to look at for finding the Keywords.
After all this time, has anyone solve the riddle of trying to make this work. I can not update my MAC. I have a PowerPC, Quick Silver, 2002 G4, dual 1000. So 10.4.11 is the last operating system I believe I can use.
    Thanks for you help.
    Have a good day.

    Hello Curt
    Thank you for your reply.
This Keyword system was working earlier, that is I could shut off the computer and come back to open Bridge and the keywords were there.
As you suggested the keyword did come up in Italics as I began working with them a few days ago, because someone had responded to an old Thread of mine from this site from almost a year ago. Initially there were coming up as persistent in normal font face.
I followed your suggestion with a smaller batch of Keywords, then shut down the computer and, and they were present when the program came back up.
    So Thanks, that works.
This will get me back on the right track again with Keywords.
I have no idea what iniciated a change of from persistent keywords to loosing them all in the past. But at least cognitively, I now have a clear process for getting them to show up again on start.
    Thanks again for your reply.

  • CS4 Bridge - Keywords + backup/restore

I have two questions to keywords in CS4 Bridge.
    1. When I put a keyword on a photo, is this keyword placed in the sidecar file only, or also into the photo (NEF) file ?
    2. I have made a lot of keywords and have a long list in the Keywords-tab. If I one day have to format C: is it then
possible to take a backup of the keywords or can I import all the keywords from my photos into Bridge ?

the reason why Photoshop makes sidecar files is because it can't write data inside some of the files. The sidecar files themselves are stored in the same place as the original file, not buried somewhere on the C drive. As long as you keep the sidecar files in the same place as the raw files you should be ok (they're easy to spot, they have the same name as the raw files but have .xmp extensions)
Your other option would be to convert your raw files to .dng as that way Camera Raw will be able to embed the metadata directly in the raw files so no more need for sidecar files

  • CS4 Acrobat Key Not Working

I have a copy of CS4 that installed fine and all the apps like Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc. are working fine, but Acrobat 9 will not take the software key I was given. When I open a PDF it asks me to first enter my password, then looks like it may be installing something, then prompts me for a serial number or to use the trial.
I haven't had a need to edit a PDF since I installed the software until now and had been viewing files in a browser...

Ok, here is some detail info of the issue:
    On my netbook: CPU=1.6ghz, RAM=2Gb, VGA=Intel500, SSD@60mb/s
    - Bridge cs3 = Hardware Render = impressive response time. [way beyond 30fps]
    - Bridge cs3 = Software Render  = <10fps
    - Bridge cs4 = Hardware Render = not available
    - Bridge cs4 = Software Render  = 2 or maybe 3fps (!!!) Its a huge diference!
Come on Adobe, a loot of computers are/will be shipping this graphic card!
Just release a patch for us. Or think about it on cs5.
