Hard Reset
Press and hold BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button until you see the Apple logo on the screen.

open itunes on computer
plug cable into computer not iOS device
turn phone off
hold home button and plug cable into phone. do not release home button until an itunes graphic appears on device.
look to computer should have message about recovery mode click ok and restore

I missed my appointment today because i could no longer use my phone and i'm now stuck using my laptop. I did also try connecting it to my MacBook but the screen was still unresponsive and black. I rescheduled my appointment to Monday to see what is wrong with my button and screen but in the meanwhile i would like to know if there is anything i can do or if i would just have to wait until monday and take it in to Apple. Any help would be really appreciated as i am phonelss for now until i take it in to Apple in a few days. Thanks.

Sounds like you'll have to take it in to the Apple store for service. This happened to my wife's iPhone and they just replaced it.

My MacBook was working completely fine , I've had no troubles with it. I was waitin for something to load and all of the sudden the screen just went black . I've restarted it several times and the screen has just stopped working .

I meant by "not compatible" that all the solutions that I found on the web did not work, especially the "Microsoft exchange" one.
Fortunately I found on the comments of the first website you mentioned the right answer for me, which I copy below:
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Other > Add CardDav Account.
Enter the following information in the fields:
Server: google.com
User Name: Enter your full Google email address
Password: Your Google account password
Select Next at the top of the screen to complete the setup.
After you have completed the setup, open the Contacts app on your device. Syncing should begin automatically.
Additional Information
Note: Make sure that SSL is enabled (under Advanced settings), and that the port is 443.
If you are using application based special password go to https://accounts.google.com/Se... and instead of your password put that special code and u r done.

That could be a hardware problem with the screen digitizer but first try these troubleshooting steps in this order:
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds). No data will be lost.
Restore: Connect your device to iTunes on your computer, backup, and then select Restore to Factory.
