So,,,is Aperture all that??

I got my first Mac two weeks ago, and I've got C1 Pro, DPP, Photoshop CS2 and Lightroom Beta. Other than the vault, do I NEED Aperture? Do you find it better than the programs I already have? It seems the sorting, selecting the 1st choice and other functions might be real sweet. As most of us do, I take hundreds of shots any day I'm out and just keep everything in focus, cuz it's hard to cull them all picking the best. Do you find that a significant plus?
Is the processing or printing or any other aspect a cut above? It would work well with my new 30", but I hate to be stuck with that vault thing. Thanks

Congratulations on your first Macintosh purchase. Welcome!
I'm glad to see that you are using C1 Pro and PhotoShop CS2. They are good programs. I used C1 Pro for quite some time, and I have now completely switched to Aperture. Honestly, I like the work flow of Aperture better and I like the raw conversions that it produces.
However, one simply cannot compare Aperture to PhotoShop In fact, it isn't meant to compete with PhotoShop at all. You will find that the two programs work hand-in-hand, complimenting each other.
The vault is simply a backup of your image library and is quite a good, solid function, despite some users having difficulties with it.
The one thing that you would notice with Aperture over the other programs is that, since it is a universal applicaiton, it will run much faster on your new mac than the other programs that you have. This will be especially noticeable once Leaopard is released.
The only two programs that you will need are Aperture and PhotoShop. The others are redundant.
As for printing, Aperture produces nice, quality prints. But, this is no better I find than PhotoShop or other programs. It really depends on your knowledge and ability to produce high-quality output. Give Tiger woods a crappy set of clubs, he's still going to kick everyone's but on the course. Likewise with printing. It really comes down to the person making the prints.

All that I saw was the black bar saying authentication busy. I was not able to restart, I was not able to switch users, I was not able to shut down. I decided to manually shut down my Mac. when it booted back up I was looking at the disk utility screen. When I clicked on repair or race it indicated that my hard drive had already been arranged. I was looking at completely formatted drive and I was having to either restore from Time Machine or reinstall lion. I had a back up but why did this happen?

A possible workaround could be to have the horizontal scroll bar visible all the time.

I found a solution to my problem.
> start menu
> accessories,
> right click on the command prompt icon and choose "run as administrator".
Once it opens, type in the following command...
netsh winsock reset
hit enter
You should get a message that the winsock reset successful and you will need to reboot your computer.
Reboot and when I reloaded itunes the store loaded fine.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.

To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

This caused me to create a new account, and it can be used for the App Store and iTunes and all that, but I can't change the initial iCloud account (the one my mum made). My device keeps prompting me for the password every few minutes after updating to iOS 8, and I've tried every option possible to retrieve the password, but I don't even know the answers to the security questions and I can't find the password reset email anywhere and I don't know the back up emails my mum used. I literally cannot find any legitimate way to sign out of the initial iCloud account without entering a password (which neither I nor my parents know). Is there a way for me to retreive the password or change to my new account without the password?

I have some folders in iPhoto called 'Recovered Folder'. When I try to delete them I get this message: "one or more of the items in your selection contains Aperture albums that are not supported in iphoto".
I don't use Aperture (did install it to try it out), and have deleted Aperture App from my Mac.
How can I get rid of these fodlers?

i use both iphoto and aperture, and i suspect something went amiss, at some point, while aperture was accessing my iphoto library.
this is how i fixed the problem:
i launched aperture, then (per the instructions linked above) switched to (i.e., accessed) my iphoto library. i was then able to delete the "recovered folder" and the album it contained. i then quit aperture and relaunched iphoto.
NOTE: at that time, although i expected the "recovered folder" to be gone, it was still present. but this time, i was able to delete the folder from within iphoto without the "contains aperture items" error message.
(Sparky030405, i realize you've since deleted aperture. while i can't say my method is the *only* way to solve this problem, it's the way i was able to solve it. so, you might consider reinstalling aperture in order to delete the folder, then uninstalling aperture, once again.)

I think you will have to do a complete restore--you will lose any info added since last backup. Connect phone to computer, select it in souce list. Next, click on Summary tab, click Restore. In the next dialog box, click Restore--your phone will be erased and the latest software will be installed. Click agree to terms and phone will restart. Then you will see the phone setup screen--click on Restore from Backup and select the most recent backup. Obviously, this will only work if you have a backup on the computer. If not, check Set up as New Phone, click continue, then wait for the process to finish.

It sounds like there may be some confusion on your system about what application should be associated with PDF files. You can reset filename associations by following the steps in these articles (depending on your operating system):

I'm not quite sure what you mean about a hard close but if you haven't done this - try it. Hold down on the sleep and the home button at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. See if it restarts now.

After Mavericks upgrade I lost the current I Movie project I was working on. All that is left is the video clips, no photographs, music, transitions or titles. Three weeks work gone!

I also upgraded the various Apple Software applications that appeared after the upgrade to the operating system. I opened I Movie to continue work on a project I was working on and as requested I allowed I Movie to update the projects to allow it to work with the upgrade.
As it was doing this a dialogue box came up showing an error had been encountered and advised me to quit I movie. I did this and when I reopened it the project I had been working on had lost all of the photographs, music, transitions and titles. All that was left were the thirty-seven video clips and nothing else. Where has all my work gone and how can I retrieve it.

It should still be on your backup drive. Try reimporting it.
