So is it a 5000X chipset or 3100 chipset - Boot camp?
I read thru some articles that suggest the Intel chipset (that does the SATA side of things) used in the MacPro is a 5000X series. So I downloaded the lastest WinXP drivers for the chipset from Intel's web site and the driver don't install saying they are not correct for the hardware.
So I go into Control Panel and discover the SATA chipset is being listed as the 3100 series.
So which is it? The reason I ask is that I'm getting very poor performance (random access times) from my hard drive under WinXP. Smaller files are killing it -- poor performance in access times, not in actual thru-put -- working with larger files if fine. Considering the drive in question is a 10K Western Digital Raptor driver with 16MB buffer 150GB -- this is not expected.
I know about the Boot Camp 1.1 issue with driver install and SATA but used Boot Camp 1.2 (which fixed this) so the driver was installed with OS during setup.
I've noticed that Intel site shows a driver update for both chipsets (3100 and 5000X) and I would like to get them loaded in WinXP to see if this cures the problem.
I've ran some diagnostic on the drive and there doesn't appear to be anything wrong at a hardware level.
Rob.
WinXP Pro 32bit is on it's own partition -- the drive in question is a Western Digital 10K Raptor 150GB 16MB buffer, SATA.
Boot Camp on my system will on support upto 2GB RAM with the X1900XTX installed. On a standard PC, WinXP 32bit will only support upto 4GB (actually 3.6GB). Only the 64bit flavors of XP or Vista will support more than 4GB.
Vista (any version) is not an option as Visual Studio 2005 has many issues with it (even with the patches).
WinXP and Vista are still pretty much multi-CPU brain dead, the kernel just does NOT do a good job at thread allocation to specific CPUs -- Vista is a big skip in my book (sorta like WinME).
The Microsoft OS that looks promising is "Vienna" which they slipped out as going to Beta in 2008 to be released 2009 (and then back pedal releazing their marketing mistake). The reason for the shorter delivery time for Vienna -- pretty simple, no backwards compatibility, truely from ground up...hmmmm...maybe Apple were right all along
Anyway, back to my Hard Drive issue under Boot Camp -- performance test show the drive as being very fast, but on smaller file sizes it takes a serious noise dive -- medium to large files and it is very speedy. This type of problem is usually a EFI issue (or in the case BIOS emulation) or driver issue or both. Anyone else notice performance issues with smaller file sizes?
The SATA chipset is 3100 series. There is a 5000X series chipset also (don't confuse this with CPU model), but these are not in the MacPro (at least not in my MacPro).

Possible to switch out PowerPC chipset for Intel chipset?
I have a powerpc G5 and I was wondering if it's possible to switch those chips out for newer Intel chips? I am running a Dual 2.3Ghz PowerPC G5. If it is possible, how would it be done?
Thank you.Hi Joel Langston;
Since the PPC and the Intel are totally different architectures even if you were able to get the chips the chances of the Intel chips fitting into the PPC motherboard are right up there with that snowball in you know where.

MSI X58 Pro - Latest Chipset Driver
Hi,
Off and on I get an ATAPI error on Windows 7 x64. I'm running a i7 920 on my MSI X58 Pro (NOT the Pro E version).
The symptoms are simple, booting into Windows load screen I get my hard drive light lit up non stop and nothing loads. I'm not sure if its trashing as I'm using an SSD. I've run HD Tune to test all my drives are they have reported them to be fine.
I'll like to update the chipset drivers as a step to solve my problem
The one on the official page shows:
Intel 3/4/5 Chipset Drivers Ver: 9.1.2.1008
Release Date: 2010-07-30
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/X58-Pro.html#/?div=Driver&os=All
This is the one I am using now.
I went to Intel's website and found an more updated one:
Intel® Chipset Device Software (INF Update Utility) Ver: 9.3.0.1019
Release Date: 2011-11-27
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=3061&DwnldID=20775&ProductFamily=Chipsets&ProductLine=Desktop+Chipsets&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+X58+Express+Chipset&lang=eng
My question is simple: Should I update my drivers to the one on the Intel site or stick with MSI's one?
Also note that the MSI Pro has been discontinued and I'm not sure if the Pro x58 product page is updated. If the updates didn't help, to further assist with troubleshooting, a list of all your systems components will be needed. Don't forget to give details of the RAM & the PSU, especially the amps on the +12V rail(s).

I just got the MSI E7205 Master-L, installed the OS (WinXP), etc...
I still see two devices in device manager with an exclamation (!) mark on them. One has a generic description of 'PCI Card' and the other is 'SM Bus'. I believe the 'SM Bus' device is on the chipset.
Where do I get the drivers for the granite bay chipset? I downloaded the latest set I could find on the MSI website and installed them, but when I did that, I had a ton of failed writes to disk (error messages) and eventually could not boot the OS. Also, Intel's website doesn't seem to mention the Granite Bay chipset in their Chipset Software Installation section.
JooShould I install the intel inf from the MSI site or from the Intel site? I tried installing the one from the MSI site and it messed up my system to the point I had to reinstall the OS. Basically, I kept getting errors about the system not being to write data to the disk.
The Intel site doesn't specifically mention the Granite Bay chipset in their Chipset Software Installation section.
Because of my experience with the intel inf from the MSI site, I'm a little wary of installing it right now. I just want to make sure this is the correct action before I try it again. I don't want to have to reinstall the OS again.
BTW... Thank you very much for the replies.

Need Chipset Driver for USB support
Hi.
This Windows XP-SP3 PC has 4xUSB2 or 2xUSB3 on-board ports, and all have failed. All USB devices are yellow-flagged in device manager.
I have run SFC \SCANNOW and it runs to completion, and I have tried right-clicking on a yellow-flagged USB entry in Device Manager and selecting Update Driver, but that only results in the following dialog:
Cannot Install This Hardware
There was a problem installing this hardware:
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller
An error occurred during the installation of the device:
The driver installation file for this device is missing a necessary entry. This may be because the INF file was written for Windows 95 or later. Contact your hardware vendor stop
It has been suggested to me that I should try to obtain the Chipset Driver for USB support. Running Speccy reveals the following about the mainboard:
Manufacturer MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO.,LTD
Model MS-7267 (CPU 1)
Version 3.0
Chipset Vendor Intel
Chipset Model i945P/PL/G/GZ
Chipset Revision A2
Southbridge Vendor Intel
Southbridge Model 82801GB (ICH7/R)
Southbridge Revision A1
BIOS
Brand American Megatrends Inc.
Version V7.1
Date 9/02/2007
Can you help me out with this?
Thanks very much.

Temparature of nForce4 Ultra chipset ?
Hi Friends,
I am new here.
I have MSI K8N-NEO4-PLATINUM motherboard with AMD X2 3800 with 512DDR400x2 with MSI 7600GS PCI-Ex card.
My Cabinet has one single Temparature Prob, which I have install at the side of CHIPSET nForce4 Ultra chipset's Heat-sink cum Fan. While playing games these are the results -
CPU : 38-45C max (Core Center)
SYS : 38-45C max (Core Center)
CHIPSET : 45-48C (by the Temparature Prob) never in 50s
Please, note that INDIA is quite HOT country and environmental temparature is in general about 28C to 30C.
My Questions -
1. is the Temparature, specially the CHIPSET, is safe ?
2. what should be the PANIC Temparature for the CHIPSET ?
Please reply soon.Quote from: iosoft on 20-August-06, 20:13:53
I can't install anything on the CHIPSET as the Graphics card is just 2mm over the CHIPSET HeatSink.
Will I install a 80mm FAN and focus it on the CHIPSET ?
and one more thing, CHIPSET never goes in 50s.
You can also considered for the Zalman heatsink. But you may need to do some modding on it's fins although it's quite near to the GPU but maybe with mod it should be fine. Make sure you've better ventilation in your case like fan 12CM is better than 8cm .Also if you're too worried you can open the side casing and see any different with that? ANyway that temp is not bad also as long don't go to 60C then you will worried about it.Gd luck. -
I have the K8N Neo Plat. Ok, I picked up one of these chipset cooler fans from compusa:
http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=291975&pfp=SEARCH
**I'm not going to remove the stock chipset heatsink. I just want to install the fan on top of it**
The fan is already screwed onto a metal plate that seems like it could be easily glued to the existing nvidia heatsink. So, can I just use the thermal paste that comes with this thing to attach it to the chipset heatsink? Or do I have to try and get those two white headed screws out and use them to hold the fan on? Should I try and remove the Nvidia logo plate from the top of the heatsink first?
Thanks for any helpQuote

Fortunately, I have a very simple question:
I have a fan already. I have the stock heatsink in the mobo. I just want to know the best way to attach the fan that I have to the stock heatsink. Can I just glue it on with the thermal paste that came with it, or do I also need to screw it down?
Anyone have any experience with this fan know what I'm talking about?

875p-Neo Chipset is not detected
Went to install Intel Application Accelerator RAID Edition 3.5. where this becomes interetsing is that it says the hardware is incompatable. and this software is not compatable on this chipset. Now seeing as im using the 875p chipset and it is supported i deciedt to download and run the chipset ID tool from intel. Got the message from it saying all components could not be identified. futhermore using information on intels website. I tried to use device mang to manually ID my chipset(i know its 875p).
According to intel I should see Intel(R) 82875 Processor to I/O Controller - 257E under system devices if my OS is correctly decting my chipset. ITS NOT THERE. I tried to download and reinstall the chipset software with no luck. Anyone have the same problem or better yet know of a way to fix this? From what ive read on these forums device manager only detects 82801ER with the RAID software installed
If like me you have the LSR version you cant use RAID ...its strange though because my southbridge chip is marked as 82801ER and the American website states:-

Which chipset does the late 2009 iMac have?
Hello everyone especially Fortuny and The hatter!
I'm still having trouble with my Windows 7 installation and wondered if anyone knows what the make and model number of the late 2009 iMac chipset was... I.E. The controller that drives the chipset and Sata etc.
None of the chipset installs that come with Boot Camp install anything and it's still listed as a GENERIC device with a Microsoft Driver...
Intel, Nvidia, etc just doesn't install.
All the best,
MikeHi Mike,
the best I could find is that the chipset is an Intel Series 5 chipset which Intel themselves use on their H55/Q57 mainboards.
Using the OSX Install DVD (no. 1) that came with your iMac should install the correct driver for it.
While in Windows you can copy the whole content of the OSX install disc and thus the BootCamp Driver to a new and empty folder to more easily 'rummage' around in the drivers.
Sorry for not having a more precise answer. (My own i7 iMac is OSX-only).

The bootcamp software that came with the imac is not working in Windows 8. Is there a separate x64 driver for that chipset? I found several drivers for the nforce chipset which all did not work. I have found drivers for all other devices in that iMac. The missing IDE driver results in a very slow System. Thanks for any suggestions.
From the Boot Camp System Requirements located here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634
Your computer does not support Windows 8: It only supports Windows 7, Vista, and XP all 32 bit.

Vantec Iceberq Heatsink on the Chipset
Considering the high temperatures that "sys temp" reads in Core Center, I decided to buy a new heatsink to replace the gold passive heatsink that comes preinstalled with the K8N Neo.
Here's the product:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-110-103&depa=0
The product fits nicely onto the chipset. Some would argue that it comes close to the AGP slot, but you don't have to squeeze it in to install it. Note: I have an ATI Radeon 9800pro -- it doesn't get in the way of the iceberq.
The results:
I was idling at a "sys temp" of 46°C, now I'm idling at 44°C. It was worth the buy simply because I enjoy messing with computer hardware, and it looks a lot nicer than the preinstalled heatsink.
Anyway, I plan to replace my stock CPU cooling with a Thermalright heatsink and Vantec 92mm stealth fan. This means that I'll be purchasing a tube of Arctice Silver 5. Then, I might as well use that AS5 on the chipset heatsink to replace the Vantec white goop. Until then, I'll enjoy watching yet another fan spin 'round in my case.
End note: the larger, blue VGA iceberq will not fit on the chipset.Quote

I've always been able to add drivers to my PE images but after upgrading to R2 I can no longer do that. Can you take a look at my 64 bit errors please, see what you think?
Also - I'm not able to even add another boot image, from any location so maybe its just a permission issue?

Failed to inject a ConfigMgr driver into the mounted WIM file
The SMS Provider reported an error.: ConfigMgr Error Object:
instance of SMS_ExtendedStatusYes as others have said you hardly ever need to inject drivers now into your boot images. There are exceptions to this i.e. Surface Pro USB Ethernet Adapter drivers and some of the newer 2014/2015 Ethernet adapter drivers from Dell and Lenovo. You certainly
don't need to inject all the drivers from a driver folder source as it appears from your post.
If your having problems with no network after you boot into your image just inject the Ethernet drivers only.
If your using WinPE 5 - Use the Windows 8.1 Ethernet Driver (irrespective of what OS your trying to deploy)
If your using WinPE 4 - Use the Windows 7 Ethernet Driver (irrespective of what OS your trying to deploy).
