So is the 4s camera really sharp?

I was thinking about getting the iPhone 4s and it would be great if it would replace my canon digital camera for taking pics.  My canon is an 8mp 870is
I used an iPhone 4 a few times and the camera was very disappointing.
thanks in advance

I am very disappointed with the quality of the photos from the iPhone 4S. I have been unable to use it to take photos requiring a significant level of detail.
I have a colleague with the Samsung Galaxy phone, which has a similar spec camera, and the quality of photos from that are far superior.  In fact, if I have to get a photo quickly then I'll usually ask him if he can take the shot for me.
The quality looks acceptable on the iPhone screen, but is completely unuable when it gets onto a bigger screen. By contrast, in exactly the same shooting conditions, in the same light, from the same distance, the Samsung photos could have come from a professional camera.  (Before anyone asks: yes, I do tap the screen to get focus.)
I do have the "lens rattle" issue (lots of threads and Google hits covering that), so I am going to try and get a change which I hope will also sort out the quality issue at the same time.
If anyone believes they are getting great photos from their 4S, then I would be interested to know whether they have the lens rattle or not...

  • Why is the video camera really zoomed in???

    Hi.
Has anyone else noticed that when you use the Iphone4 camera in video mode, it is zoomed in compared to the still camera? It makes it really difficult to shoot anything close up and is just really annoying. Why should it be different, surely it use the same lens for both.
    Thanks

The camera is 5MP. The camera records at 720P which is 1280×720= 0.9216MP. The easiest way for them to record this without using a lot of processing power is to use only the pixels in the middle of the camera which means it will be zoomed in.

  • Is The 6280 camera really this bad?

    6280: > k510: >
My k510 with 1.3mp take better photos then the 6280 with 2mp.
And swithcing from low quality to high quality in the options does absolutely nothing.
So should i replace this phone, or all the 6280 have this poor camera quality?
    Thx in advance.

i understand, it's just something about nokia's camera phones, the pictures are always not sharp or clear, but sony ericsson i think have the best quality, take the phone back if you don't like the quality of the images, though i don't really need crisp quality

Under the Effects-Lumetri Looks-Desaturation choose a B and W effect. Then add the luma corrector from the Video effects-colour correction section. Adjust the brightness and contrast to get the effect you want.

  • The FaceTime camera is really bad and has tiny things scrambling everywhere on The New iPad why?

The FaceTime camera is really bad however the front one is clear why is that?!

First, this is a user to user forum, so you're not talking to Apple here...none of 'us' broke the card reader.
Have you tried to give your iPad a reset? Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot.
Also, I've noticed with mine that the import window doesn't always pop up  like it used to, but instead you'll see 'import' as a button added to the bottom right of the screen when you plug in a SD card that holds properly named and formatted content (as in if you plug in a SD card without a DCIM folder you get no response, there has to be something for it to import for the option to even appear

I'm also on iPhone 4, iOS 6, and have exactly the same problem. I've tried resetting privacy settings, turning restrictions on and off, deleting and reinstalling apps. Nothing seems to work. The lists of apps in privacy settings are all empty, except for location services. When using Tweetbot the app is regularly asking for permission to access my twitter account, but even when I allow that, the app doesn't show in privacy settings. When I try to go into the camera roll from the Facebook app, the app tells me I have to allow access to the camera roll from the privacy settings - which I can't do since the app is not listed there.

  • The ideal camera.

Recently I was surprised to see that with the number of cameras out there, I still can't find one that really fits in with what I would like to see.
Here is what I consider the ultimate camera. Everything that's not listed here, I can do without.
A progressive camera with ANY progressive frame rate from 5P to 60P!
Variable aspect ratio from 4:1 to 1:1!
A native codec which optimizes the image based on the above settings!
Cheap flash cards or mini DV type tapes.
Half inch or 2/3 inch interchangeable lenses and real manual focus ring.
    2 XLR IN + HDMI + Firewire in/out + RCA in/out
(YUV would be nice too but not mandatory)
Fast Auto Focus button, zebra, iris, gain, shutter angle buttons on the camera (and not in some hard to find menu).
Full HD and a super sharp colour viewfinder.
    Hand held and affordable.
The EX1 comes closest but we're not there yet.
That's all. Is that too much to ask? :)

My two main requirements are full raster I-frame only recording and full resolution imaging devices. ALL video/DC cameras should have at least those two fundamental basics. Right now the cheapest HD camera that offers such is the $50,000 Panasonic HPX3000, and that ain't right. We need cameras costing ten times less to have those same basics that ALL cameras should have.
Recording modes should include 480i/30, 480p/30, 480p/24 (both standard and Advanced pulldown), 720p/30, 720p/24, 1080i/30, 1080p/24 (plus PAL equivalents for those cameras). 24p modes at all resolutions should also include a Native mode which records only those actual frames without a 30i carrier or such. Variable frame rates as we now get with 720p modes should be kept, and possibly added to the 1080p modes as well.
It would be nice if someone could design a scheme that allows us to fit one hour of 1080pN/24 recording onto a $5.00 solid state device. THAT would be a genuine replacement for tape. I might even say it should be two hours recording onto $5.00 card, because that was the standard for VHS. MiniDV kind of messed with that paradigm by being half the recording time of the accepted standard. The recording format should include everything into a single file - video, audio, metadata. Renaming files in any way should not break any functionality (including spanning, as metadata would handle that). MXF would probably work if properly implemented.
I'd like at least a 1/2" set of CCDs. 2/3" would be better. I'm less concerned about removable lenses, so long as the built in zoom shows no spherical aberration at any focal length, and has at least a 16:1 range. True mechanical zoom/focus/iris rings on the lens like real lenses should have are a must, with auto/manual everything and a remote port for all functions a la HVX200.
Half resolution/full color EVF and LCD are also a must for event work. The EVF should be switchable to B&W for the old timers who want it. A good sized EVF like on Pannys, plus a 4.5" LCD.
I find the basic DVX/HVX body design to be by far the most user friendly of any camera I've tried, so let's stick with that.
An MSRP under $5,000, with street prices even less.

  • Mobile data doesn't work and I can't access the front camera.

Hi, I received my new Xperia Z3 Compact in white just over a week ago and unfortunately I have few unresolved issued with it which kind of spoils the experience of owning a new phone.
I  just switched from a number of Iphones and Xperia was the handset that really impressed me.
I couldn't see the point of getting an overpriced Iphone with a limited storage capability.
    Unfortunately my Xperia Z3c has some issues;
    - I can't get the front camera work
    - I can get my internet only through Wi-Fi and my unlimited 3G data doesn't work at all (T-Mobile U.K)
    - Three Swipe Gesture doesn’t appear to be working as it should on any Android device (I'm told).
So I am not a very happy user at the moment and slowly starting to miss the Iphone.

    Hi casson50ml,
Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
Sorry to hear about these issues, I would first suggest clearing the data for the camera.
    Menu > settings > Apps > All > Camera > Clear Data
Once done try using the device.
In regards to the Internet, try performing an Internet settings download.
Menu > Settings > More > Internet Settings > Accept Disclaimer > Choose Network.
Now try using the network data on the handset.
Can you explain more about the 3 Finger Gesture issue?

  • Capture an image using the web camera from a web application

    Hi All,
Could anyone please share the steps what have to be followed for capture an image using the web camera from a web application.
I have a similar requirement like this,
    1) Detect the Webcam on the users machine from the web application.(To be more clear when the user clicks on 'Add Photo' tool from the web application)
    2) When the user confirms to save, save the Image in users machine at some temporary location with some unique file name.
    3) Upload the Image to the server from the temporary location.
Please share the details like, what can be used and how it can be used etc...
    Thanks,
    Suman

    1) Detect the Webcam on the users machine from the web application.(To be more clear when the user clicks on 'Add Photo' tool from the web application)There's not really any good way to do this with JMF. You'd have to somehow create a JMF web-start application that will install the native JMF binaries, and then kick off the capture device scanning code from the application, and then scan through the list of devices found to get the MediaLocator of the web cam.
    2) When the user confirms to save, save the Image in users machine at some temporary location with some unique file name. You'd probably be displaying a "preview" window and then you'd just want to capture the image. There are a handful of ways you could capture the image, but it really depends on your situation.
    3) Upload the Image to the server from the temporary location. You can find out how to do this on google.
All things told, this application is probably more suited to be a FMJ (Freedom for Media in Java) application than a JMF application. JMF relies on native code to capture from the web cams, whereas FMJ does not.
Alternately, you might want to look into Adobe Flex for this particular application.

  • How Do I Wrap Text Like the iOS Camera App?

Hello. I am in yearbook, and I have been challenged with designing the cover of the yearbook, and I have been having a few problems along the way. One of these problems is to wrap text. Specifically, I'm stuck on how I would wrap text like the iOS camera app on the bottom of the screen. The words seem like they are wrap around a 3D object to give it that effect, but I can't really tell. If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

No iOS apps are use to work on images  they have no value when you have Photoshop. The iPod is better for displaying image then the iPad mini it has a 3:2 aspect ratio display and travels better the the mini iPad which has a 4:3 aspect ratio display.  I also crop image for display on wall mounted HDTV. The iPad is better for casual internet access then the iPod. All our kids have iPhones and they all use computers either Mac or PC for work and internet access.  When you have a Unix or Windows why would you want to touch an iOS device for work or serious internet access.  Apple mobile devices are convenient for casual use and grand kids don't get that dirty finger painting on them as they do using real paint. Nothing of real value is maintained on an iOS device.
Well...there's Photoshop Touch and Photoshop Mix as well as Lightroom Mobile. It could be argued that they're don't exactly mirror their desktop cousins, yes, but they weren't meant to be. They were meant as extensions to the desktop experience.  (e.g., Lightroom Mobile lets one work with the RAW images they have in their Lightroom desktop collections.)
The more powerful Windows tablets can run Photoshop desktop (like Photoshop CC) too.
@bluebocat: Are you looking for text with a perspective? Like it has a vanishing point? As if it was turned in a certain direction in 3D space?

If I click "Open Anyway" or "Render using Lightroom", I get the following message:
"Adobe Photoshop CS6 cannot be opened because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure Adobe Photoshop CS6 works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X."
Please tell me what to do so I can edit from Lightroom to Photoshop.

In Photoshop, if you choose Help - About Plug-in... - Camera Raw, does it say 8.6?
Seems to me there was some hiccup they found in the update process, which prompted this:
Camera Raw updates cannot be applied
I honestly don't know if the problem could apply to 8.6 as well, which is why I asked you to check to make very sure you really got it.

The image came up on my screen saying that I need to connect my iPod to iTunes, but I have a passcode, so it won't allow me to. And I want to try and turn it off, but my touch screen doesn't seem to be working either, so I can't even turn it off since you need to "slide to power off." HELP! I'm leaving on Thursday morning for six and a half weeks, and I absolutely need my iPod with me. I was just at the Apple store today for problems I was having with ANOTHER product, and I don't really want to drive all the way out to where my nearest store is (which is not very near) if I can figure this out at home. My iPod was working totally fine earlier today and last night, so I don't know what happened! Please, please, PLEASE HELP!

Now it's allowing me to reboot (hold down power button and home button and restart), but every time it just comes up to the same thing: the connect to iTunes page. Which is not possible. And I refuse to restore my iPod. PLEASE HELP.

  • I think I have mastered the "What camera should I buy" issue.

I have been doing research for months now on which camera is best.
I have looked at every model, every brand, read their specs and checked their features.
Things could change, but for now:
ONLY CAMERAS WITH A FIRE WIRE PORT AND A MINIDV TAPE WILL WORK WITH iMOVIE directly with EASE OF USE, BEST QUALITY and LEAST AMOUNT OF COMPRESSION ISSUES.
    Two choices:
    1. High Definition cameras:
Conclusion: They all suck. It is a question of which one ***** the least. In my opinion it is the Canon HV20 ($1099.99). It has the best features (I love the 24p mode) for the money. I think Apple agrees with me, they sell it in the Apple Store. If only it had a decent 3CCD lens that worked well in low light, it would be perfect. If you are only going to shoot in good light, no problem.
Why I think they suck? NONE of the HD consumer level cameras have inputs for analogue and high definition video for recording from older equipment like VCRs and new equipment like cable boxes that output HD TV. This means you cannot record your favorite HD TV program OR MOVIE and make a HD DVD (Blue-ray or HD-DVD) with no loss of quality.
NOTE: The upper end cameras like the Sony HDR-FX1 ($3699,99) and the Canon XL-H1 (7,999.99) are the only cameras that don't suck, but the prices do.
    WARNING ABOUT HD
YOU WILL NEED A POWERFUL COMPUTER LIKE THE NEW MAC PROS WITH 2 GIG OF RAM AND HUGE HUGE AMOUT OF HARD DRIVE STORAGE and Final Cut Pro TO BE HAPPY WORKING WITH HIGH DEFINITION VIDEO.
    2. SD Cameras.
I like the Sony DCR-HC96. ($649.99) It has Analog-to-Digital Converter (with Pass Through) and Analog Audio/Video Input(s) (Multi A/V)
This camera is perfect for any Mac user with older machines like the dual G4's and older G5's.

I guess we can agree to disagree.
    From your post:
<ONLY CAMERAS WITH A FIRE WIRE PORT AND A MINIDV TAPE WILL WORK WITH iMOVIE directly with EASE OF USE, BEST QUALITY and LEAST AMOUNT OF COMPRESSION ISSUES.
<div class="jive-quote">That is not really correct. HDV camcorders do employ MiniDV tapes and connect via firewire, but do have compression issues due to the MPEG-2 recording format.
I said "The LEAST amount of compression issues" I did not say they do not have compression. SO YOU DID NOT UNDERSTAND.
    The you said:
<YOU WILL NEED A POWERFUL COMPUTER LIKE THE NEW MAC PROS WITH 2 GIG OF RAM AND HUGE HUGE AMOUT OF HARD DRIVE STORAGE and Final Cut Pro TO BE HAPPY WORKING WITH HIGH DEFINITION VIDEO.
<div class="jive-quote">Incorrect again. My iBook G4, 1.25 Ghz, 512 RAM handles HDV just fine (apart from the slow capture speed) and if your final output is an SD DVD, there's always the possibility to let the camera do the downconversion and edit in SD.
I said "To be happy working with high definition video". It should have been clear to you that I am saying NO SLOW CAPTURE, and CREATING AN HD MOVIE FROM START TO FINISH. FINISH meaning Blu-ray or HD-DVD (with software from the future) in less than 6 hours. Your little G4 with 512 RAM will NOT be able to handle that when it becomes available. I hate how slow my MDD dual G4 which I upgraded to 1.5 Gig of RAM performs when working with SD video. I would cry if I had to go your speed. (Ergo NOT HAPPY) You said "If your output is SD" I did not say SD, I was referring to HD so,,,YOUR WRONG AGAIN.
My point is that HD cameras are just not fully compatible with the Mac, and most (as normal) support Windowz with USB2 more than OSX.
We cannot make full use of HD on our Macs until we can make HD DVDs.
    Do you get it now?

Barring some unusual circumstance, there should be no need to disable your built-in iSight because YOU decide when to use your iSight.
Some apps such as iChat allow you to enable and disable the webcam from menu commands.
Other apps such as Photo Booth only use the camera when you click the button.
However, if you REALLY want to disable, scripts like this one can easily disable and enable iSight.
      http://techslaves.org/index.php?page=62
However, be aware that it simultaneously disables ALL USB webcams when active.
Although I do not recommend it, you can manually disable your built-in iSight by removing the "QuickTimeUSBVDCDIgitizer.component" file from your computer's HardDriveName > System > Library > QuickTime folder and restarting your Mac. Your built-in iSight should no longer work with any app.
P.S. Manually moving, renaming, or deleting files outside your Username/Documents folder

  • The front camera on my iPod 5 is not opening

The front camera on my iPod 5 is not working and I have had this problem for a LONG time. When I try to open my front camera, it freezes and does not work. this also happens when I try to use the front camera on apps like Instagram and snap chat. I had this problem before ios7. I've tried a lot of things I tried restarting my iPod, but that didn't work. I've also tried to back-up and restore my iPod on the computer and on the device, but that didn't work. I waited for ios7 to come out because I thought that maybe the camera would start working again if I updated, but I was still having the same problem after the update. it's getting really frustrating because I try to video chat my friends but they can't see me cause the camera won't work! what do I do? I don't think it's a hardware problem because I googled this before and a LOT of people seem to have the exact same problem
here are some additional details that might help:
-this problem started since the 2nd day I had my iPod
-the back camera works just fine
-I did everything except restoring it to factory settings
-I haven't taken it to the Apple store
what do I do? should I restore it to factory settings? will all my music and pictures get deleted if I restore it to factory settings?

Since you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.
