First American soccer lost its biggest star, British import David Beckham, now it is about to lose its dedicated cable channel. Fox Networks is planning to relaunch its Fox Soccer Channel as an FX-branded entertainment cable network, a sibling to the cable network that airs Sons Of Anarchy, Louie and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Information about the plan, which is in advanced stages and is already being presented to ad buyers to gauge their interest, was reported by Broadcast & Cable and the LA Times. According to sources, the FX offshoot, dubbed FXX, would be geared towards younger viewers with an emphasis on comedy, creating a cable tandem similar to TNT-TBS where TNT is more older-skewing and drama-focused and TBS goes for younger viewers with comedies. Like its big brother FX, FXX would feature original programming, in addition to some repurposed shows and theatrical movies from FX and fellow sibling FX Movie Channel. There is talk about moving some younger-skewing comedy series from FX to FXX to further differentiate the two networks’ identities. Fox has yet to begin talks with MSO and satellite operators about switching Fox Soccer Channel and its 75 million homes to FXX.
The future of the Fox Soccer Channel had been in limbo ever since Fox and ESPN in October lost the rights to the English Premier League to NBC and its fledgling NBC Sports Network. The remaining soccer programming on Fox Soccer Channel is expected to be folded into Fox’s planned national sports cable network, tentatively named Fox Sports 1, that would compete with ESPN. A spokesman for Fox Networks said in a statement, “We are constantly evaluating our programming offerings and this is just one notion we have considered over the past year or so,” declining further comment.

In an otherwise excellent offering, I personally find Verizon to be absolutely clueless and off the mark with regard to FSC/FSC Plus
FSC is offered in basic and FSC Plus is available for $14.99/month in standard def only. Not only is the picture in standard def, it is one of the poorest quality, most highly compressed picture quality of any standard def channel in the entire lineup.
When will this be addressed Verizon?

Dish Network FSC offered in HD, FSC Plus offered in HD for $14.99/month
Cablevision FSC HD part of basic, FSC Plus HD offered with $6.99/month sports package
At $14.99/month the combination of poor qualty standard def and high cost for such poor quality is frankly insulting to your customers given the other options out there. Otherwise, FIOS is a wonderful product but when will this be fixed? The most expensive and poorest picture quality channel in the lineup at the same time.

I agree that BET may get better ratings, but not having BET in HD will not cause many people to leave FIOS for another provider compared to many people I already know that have left FIOS for a provider that already carries FSC and/or GOL TV in HD. How many people do you see beggin for BET in HD on this forum and on twitter (esp compared to those wanting the sports channels they watch in HD)? Not many because BET in SD on a large LCD TV doesn't look too bad, but FSC or FSC + in SD look horrible. I think most people are upset that Verizon is not communicating with those of us that pay so much money each month about any kind of timeline for expanding its HD offerings. We were all told by Twitter Joe (@fiostv) back in the Fall that FSC was next to go to HD. Then a couple of weeks ago he came out with BET is next and FSC is after that. I think most of us would agree that if we knew a general timeline (doesn't have to be a specfic date, but rather 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, etc.) of when FSC will come in HD we would be more satisified. Instead it's been nearly 12 months since FSC has been available in HD (and the European season 2/3's over and CL coming to a close soon) and we still have no idea when we will be able to get it on FIOS.

I don't comprehend why the Fox Soccer Plus which is a premium subscription channel is not offered in HD. It took long enough to get Fox Soccer channel (584) in HD. Please explain !!!!!

Can we pause to reconsider for a moment that it costs $14.99/month to subscribe? How do you expect a customer to pay more for a non-HD channel? Its one channel we are talking about...introduce pre-order subscriptions to identify demand and increase capactiy? This should no longer be overlooked!!!

Fox Soccer Plus HD cut-in on FiOS 584 last night

Anyone else notice a 5 minute cut-in of Fox Soccer Plus in HD on the Fox Soccer channel (FiOS 584) last night around 10:20pm EST? I was watching the replay of Man United vs. Cluj and for a short span the Chelsea vs. Nordsjaelland replay replaced the feed. It was also in HD and had the Fox Soccer Plus logo in the upper right corner.

Fox Soccer Plus not in HD?

So, I'm paying $15 per month for the Fox Soccer Plus channel (rolled over from Setanta) and the UEFA magazine is on, says 'Fox Soccer Plus HD' in the upper right corner, and yet - it is not in HD! What gives?
I must say, that I only anted up for Setanta for the rugby, most notably the Six Nation tournament. And now it appears that I am paying the same amount for a supposed HD channel that is not in HD, and it seems that they also won't be continuing coverage of the Six Nations (at least not according to their programming to date). So a double whammy, which means I am highly likely to cancel if I don't get an answer on the HD. Certainly can't justify $15 for no HD AND no Six Nations.

Of course they ignore these forums. It says right at the top that this is a peer-to-peer forum. There is no official Verizon presence here at all. If you want offical Verizon, follow at the twitter or use the contact us section.
As for the FSC in HD, THEY ARE UNDER NEGOCIATIONS FOR THE CHANNEL. That was the official response, and that is ALL they can say about it. As long as they are under negociations they cannot provide ANY further info. They are required to stay silent about it. They WANT to carry it but they have to get permission to do so. That is the hold up.

Why is Fox Soccer Plus not in HD?

Verizon charges $14.99/mo for Fox Soccer Plus and even with a subscription, the channel is SD. Will this change? How is it decided whether a channel is HD or SD?

about a week ago, the Fox business channel and the Fox news network videos stopped working. They neither start nor play the audio.
is there something that you can suggest?
when I go to other sites, the video works just fine. WSJ is an example - no problem

10.6.5 breaks Fox Soccer streaming

Since upgrading, I've been unable to watch live games on foxsoccer.tv. I get about 30-45 seconds of video, then it disappears forever and the spinning thing appears. BUt the sound continues. I've tried watching different games at different times and the result is always the same. Foxsoccer.tv requires Flash, so I reinstalled in case that was the issue, but the result is the same. Anyone have similar problems or suggest what might be going on?

I went to the Apple Store today (Genius Bar) to see if they could help with this issue. I wanted to make sure I didn't personally have an issue with my Flash install. The guy at the store was very helpful and worked through the issue with me. In the end, nothing was wrong with my Flash player and we further narrowed the issue (so to speak).
I personally only have the discussed issue with live and replay games that don't have quality options to select. In some clips you have the option to decide low, medium or high quality. These videos play without a problem for me. The video's that don't have quality options, don't play. Apples software update and the method in-which Fox creates the files together is causing the issue.
However, if you follow JT's suggestion below, it corrects the problem and the video plays without an issue.
*"Right click on the streaming screen then click settings. In the box that pops up can you disable ‘enable hardware acceleration’ by unticking the box on the first tab then click close. Once completed please refresh your screen, usually by pressing F5 or Command R*
I hope this helps, and I can at least now watch games again. No thanks to Fox Soccer TV customer support..

Fox News channel 44

Fox News channel 44 has extremely loud audio. The audio setting is 11, whereas other channels are set on approximately 55. It is so bad, that the audio must be decreased to 11 before changing channels. Also, some comercials are muted so that they cannot be heard indicating that they have normal audio. I chatted with support and did: 1. Unplug and plug the HDMI cable. 2. Unplug the Box, wait 5 minutes and plug it back in. After the 5 minutes, Support dropped the Chat. It's such a weird problem that it must be caused by the Box.

What is the box brand and model #?

Labview is no longer recognizing my physical channels. Corrupt subvi?

For some reason, whether the subvi has become corrupted or who knows, my mx create channel VI is no longer recognizing my physical channels. When I run the vi I get a -200099 error which says there may be no physical channel specified. I have the channels set up correctly in mx and they Vi ran fine previously, but now all the sudden..nothing. If I use the Daq assistant I can get the readings I want, which is strange. Anyone had something like this happen?

Hello Tim,
I'm not sure what is causing your physical channel to no longer be recognized by that DAQmx VI but there are several things we can try to figure out what is going on and possibly resolve the issue.
1) Have you tried using the "DAQmx Create Virtual Channel.vi" in a different program to see if it can properly recognize the physical channel? The DAQ assistant uses this DAQmx VI in its underlying code so I don't suspect that the DAQmx VI itself has become corrupt.
2) Right-click on the DAQ assistant and select "Convert to task name constant". Close the DAQ assistant wizard (you can make any changes in the wizard that you would like) and you should have a task name constant on your block diagram. Right-click on the task name constant and select "Generate Code >> Configuration". This will create a subVI that shows how the DAQ assitant created the virtual channel for the task. Compare your code the configuration code generated from the task name constant and see if there are any differences.
3) If you do think it is a corrupt subVI, reinstalling the DAQ driver support for LabVIEW should overwrite the subVI with a new copy from the installer.
Hopefully we can narrow down what is causing the problem!

Fios tells us how amazing there HD programming but honestly, its pathetic. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world! Why the hell is tennis, golf, hockey, wealth, green, all in HD over soccer???? **bleep** Fios

Illustrator no longer displays the white channel of a placed DCS/.eps.

I should have spoke up sooner because I thought this would get fixed pretty quickly but I just upgraded to CS6 and it's still broken. I use Photoshop to generate color separations for screen printing. We do simulated spot process which means we print the prodomient colors of the image rather than gambling that CMYK will work. We print white because garments are often any color you can imagine. So I use the DCS.eps format alot. I place this linked in Illustrator. Up untill CS3 this worked fine. I skipped 4, but upgraded to 5. Five doesn't display the white channel. (These files are Multichannel mode, each channel is a Spot channel. saved as dcs/eps) I have not tried output. It may print fine. The thing is I end up with a client perched on my shoulder like a buzzard and if the white parts of the design or the white channel/screen isn't their to support the top/upper colors I look like I don't know what I'm doing, or I left the white out, etc. I've been in both offset printing and screen printing and T&T (trinkets and trash) for a long time. Messing up paper is one thing. Messing up an Under Armor or Nike or you name it garment is a whole different ballgame so they are pretty tense when it comes to what they see. I already have to explain that it looks pixelated and rough because it's an 8 bit preview but will print sharp.
What are the odds of getting this fixed? It worked like a charm for years (Illustrator 4 to CS3)

Evidently, Illustrator is creating its own preview, rather than using the one embedded in the EPS.
Create a Multichannel file containing several spot color channels. Make the images of the various spot channels overlap each other. Select white as the color for one of the spot channels. Set each channel's Solidity at 100%. Save as DCS2 with 8-bit TIF preview.
Import the DCS2 file into Corel Draw. Select the Place As EPS option, and it displays the dithered 8-bit composite preview embedded in the EPS, and the spot white channel shows.
If you import the very same file into Illustrator, it's as if Illustrator interprets the content of the EPS (i.e.; a stack of grayscale images) and displays its own preview as if Overprint Preview were turned on. In other words, Illustrator's "preview" of the file seems to act as if you had:
1. Saved the DCS2 file as multifile.
3. Imported the individual grayscale separation files.
4. Applied spot color Swatches to them and set each of them to overprint.
5. Turned on Overprint Preview.
Illustrator knows nothing of individual ink opacity. So as Illustrator's Overprint Preview always does, the white image (being set to overprint) disappears. Note that's not the only difference. The other separation images also display as overprinting, so areas of overlap change color, despite their "Solidity" (opacity) having been set to 100% in Photoshop.
Pretty much the same thing occurs if you save as PS CMYK with spot color channels.
If you place the image (either the DCS or the PS) in Illustrator and print separations to the Adobe PDF virtual printer, you will see that the spot white separation does print, and its image overprints the other seps, as it should. The problem is getting a reasonable preview to show your customer. One way to do that is to print a composite PDF from Photoshop and place that into Illustrator, just to serve as a temporary preview for layout purposes.
I'm on Windows these days, so don't know if there are caveats on MacOS regarding "printing" to PDF.
Just more of Adobe's "cross application integration" of these CS bundles.
