So many instances of siebmtshmw.exe

Hi
I installed Siebel 8.0 against Oracle 10g and IIS web server. When I start Siebel server, It starts too many instances of siebmtshmw.exe process that my machine just hangs.
Has anybody faced similar problem before? What could be the solution for the same?
Thanking You
Kiran Thakkar

Hi Kiran,
For each component group you enable, a process Siebmtshmw.exe executes!
So decide which components you need & only enable its responding groups, else it would require lot of system resources.

  • Multiple instances of explorer.exe running in task manager

I got a dropper trojan virus on my computer that microsoft security essencials do not recognized but after running "superantispyware" antivirus I got discover it and delete it. After that, I still could find the infected files in my
administrator folders as .temp files and I just erased them. After that my computer started crashing and runing several instances of explorer.exe in the task manager with different memory values, some of them ascending to 350,000. I have set up my computer
to run just the basic services, I have tried windows in safe mode, ran other antivirus programs but still it is performing the same. As far as I have noticed other unusual process present are host.dll, dllhost.exe, and logonUI.exe. Any idea about it? Thanks
    in advance for your help.

I have the same issue. It started about a month ago when I was filling out a form online and had to quit and close the window.  My system got very buggy (can't remember details), flashing, then really slow.  Found a bunch of explorer.exe instances
in Task Manager.  Ran Security Essentials and several other anti-viruses, nothing found.
    Running Win7 Pro, sp1, 64-bit, CoreI5, 4Gb Ram
Restored system to a previous version, didn't work
Restored last system image, didn't work
Used System Repair Disk - ran Memory Diagnostic.  Said it would give me report after reboot.  Never saw a report after reboot. But only one instance of explorer.exe in task manager at that point.  Took disk out, rebooted normally.  After
20 minutes or so, the multiple instances were back.
Used Repair Disk again, ran Memory Diagnostic. Again, no report after reboot (leaving disk in machine both times), but only one instance running again.
Did this a few times with the same result, so now leaving disk in system and always boot from it.
Ran Security Essentials again, found that rovnix virus, removed, ran again, found it again.
Ran search for instances and found many.  Here's an example:
    C:\Windows\explorer.exe
    C:\Windows\winsxs\wow64_microsoft-windows-explorer_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17567_none_b9fc4815c4e292b5

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64
When I check properties on the now single one on Task Manager, this is what it shows:
    C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-explorer_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17567_none_afa79dc39081d0ba\explorer.exe
    C:\Windows\explorer.exe
I was going to reinstall entire system, but was from an Anytime Upgrade which now says it's invalid.  Much more to story on that (calls to MS support, etc.).

  • Multiple instances of AcroRd32.exe while using Windows Explorer Preview Pane

I'm trying to understand why our computers behave differently while browsing PDF files using Windows Explorer with the preview pane turned on.
All are Windows 7 Pro 32-bit.
The scenario:  Open Windows Explorer with the preview pane turned on, go to a folder full of PDF files, and start single-clicking on them, one by one down the list.  Keep Task Manager open, on the Processes tab, showing processes from all users, as you click on the PDF files.
On two of the computers, you can keep clicking right on the down the list, and the preview pane shows the PDF file contents immediately with each click.  The Task Manager does not show any instances of AcroRd32.exe running, and the machine does not slow down no matter how quickly you go down the list of files.  You can keep clicking all day.
On the other two computers, as you keep clicking down the list, after about six or seven clicks, the machine starts getting slower and slower in responding to display the PDF contents.  In Task Manager, you see multiple instances of AcroRd32.exe executing, and the list keeps growing with more instances - I've seen up to 8, with memory allocations to some of the instances approaching 700MB!  One of the CPU cores goes to 100%. If you stop clicking in Windows Explorer, eventually, the machine recovers, and the list of multiple instances of AcroRd32.exe shrinks, but never goes away completely until you close the Explorer window.
What could account for this difference?  One of the users is complaining - he often browses folders of scanned PDFs looking for invoices, transactions, etc., and has to go slowly to keep his machine from bogging down.  I don't know when this behavior started.
It doesn't matter if it is a shared folder on a network resource or one locally on the machine, or if it is an admin or standard Windows account - the behavior is the same.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Reader, to no avail.
    Thanks for any ideas.

Yes i'm having this issue to.
Becomes worse after display many documents in pane, worst even if scanned images are in.
After killing the  process, sometimes it generate even more process.
After Killing all the process, sometimes need to deactivate the pane view and activate
    again to restore normal preview.
Sometimes it takes a lot of time to progress to file below, if i wait, going to files above, it pass
the file that shows delay, without any problem.
I add received from Microsoft, in answer to the same issue to uninstall adobe reader and install
latest version. It become a bit more stable, but problem still shows.
Abobe reader: 10.1.0, ATI latest drivers 11-07

  • How many Instances can I install on one machine?

    Hi Folks,
Do you know how many oracle instances I can install on my Win OS machine.
I already have three different instances. Typically how many instances Oracle recommends to setup in one machine to ensure performance improvement?
I use Oracle 9 and oracle10g both. In fact, Oracle9 in Solaris and oracle10g on win.
    Regards,
    Amir

In general, it recommends one instance per server
in a production environment, for a variety of
    reasons (maintainability, backup/recovery, easier to
tune, better use of resources). If you have 100 productives databases, it is very probable that you won't be able to have one server per database.
Again, it depends on your number of users, processors and ram... But if you 16G ram and 16 processors, you should well be able to able to have 20 databases with not too much activity.
The number of 20 here means truely nothing. I admit. But recommending one instance per server is not ok.
Many applications require to have a separate database. It is the double administration necessary, but it is better than the troubles generated when 2 software vendors are sharing the same db.
For development, I have some systems with over 50 instances running with 16g ram and 8 cpus.

  • EastWest Symphonic, LA Scoring Strings - How many instances can you run?

Hi - After investing in a new quod core recently and been really depressed by the performance I'm getting I wondered whether users of EW Symphonic Orchestra and/or LA Scoring Strings, Vienna Symphonic etc... could share with me how many instances they can load and run in a mix.

    Hi,
    i understand your frustration
Below is a list of the things I had do to to make my system usable:
    1. Turn Airport & BlueTooth : OFF
    2. Apple System Preferences:
Energy Saver: Set Computer and Hard Drive to: Never Sleep,
Software Updates: Check for update: Uncheck
    3. Logic Preferences, Audio , Devices:
    I/O Buffer Size 512
    Software Monitoring: OFF
    Process Buffer Range: Large
Audio Units Manager: Uncheck all AU plugins not being used!
    4. Logic Preferences, Audio, General:
    Track Mute/solo: CPU-saving(Slow Response)
    Sample Accurate Automation : OFF
    Plug-In Delay Compensation: OFF
    5. Assign ALL tracks thru Buss's, See Link below
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3161
    6. Keep a muted audio track in the arrange page and have it selected
LOgic uses additional CPU power if a midi track is selected
    7. Keep at least 50gb or more of free space on the hard drive
    8. Run the freeware program Mac Janitor
    9. Do not run any other programs during the Logic Session. Close all programs not being used.
    10. VERY IMPORTANT! Restart computer to flush ram. Do this each and every time you reload your Logic Sequence.

I believe each instance is an Essbase Application process.
You can start and stop Essbase Applications if you want to remove the from the process kernel. If you do not have these many applications in your system then it is probably orphaned processes.
I have seen this happen with version 6, when Essbase is running a large process like a calc script through the front end and the frond end process is cancelled, like ending Application Manager. Then the user tries to connect and start the application again. This spawns a new process that waits behind the original.
You should shutdown Essbase daemons. And kill all these processes and start over.
If Essbase runs a large process it will theoretically continue running until its finished. Unfortunately you can create a process that runs for days.

  • Can I able to install many instances in one database. If yes please let me

    Hi,
Can I able to install many instances in one database. If yes please let me how to do in Oracle 10g and *9i*.
    Thanks,
    Senthilnathan.

Can you clarify what you trying to accomplish please? An instance consists of the memory structures, while a database consists of the memory structures and data files. Hence a RAC is a single database, with a instance per node (since each node will have the memory structures but all nodes access the same, single database).
If you are referring to multiple schemas or applications inside the same database then yes, that is perfectly fine and done generally.

  • Multiple instances of jrun.exe running?

Is it common for there to be more than one instance of
jrun.exe running in a non-clustered installation of CF7? There have
been episodes where jrun.exe seems to get taxed on moderately size
queries. After looking at Task Manager on Win2K3 server - there are
sometimes 3 or 4 instances of jrun.exe running. The first instance
is usually very high (ex. 450 MB) while the other instance(s) hover
around the 10-15 MB mark and remain constant. Does this sound like
an issue that can be controlled by CFAdmin or are there issues with
    our configuration:
    Win2K3 Server (VMWare instance)
CF7.01 (yes we know it needs a patch)
    512 MB RAM
Any thoughts on this is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    > Is it common for there to be more than one instance of
    jrun.exe running in a
    > non-clustered installation of CF7?
    Yes.
A multi-server install (not a clustered) of CF could well
    have one instance
of JRUN.EXE running for each CF instance. There's usually at
    least two: one
for the initial CF instance, and one for the JMC. You can
    switch the JMC
one off (starting it on the off-chance you need it, which is
    almost never).
    > The first instance is usually very high (ex. 450 MB)
    while the other
That's not especially high for a CF app server. We generally
    allocate the
max 1.3GB (on Windows) to the JVM that each CF instance is
    using.
    > 512 MB RAM
OK, that's not even enough RAM for a PC workstation these
    days, let alone a
server! W2k3 itself needs around a minimum of 400MB to run.
    The default
install of CF will want another 512MB.
I would not run a desktop PC on less than 2GB RAM these days.
    And make
    that 4GB for a server. A low-spec'ed one.

  • Multiple Instance of HSODBC.EXE

    Hi,
I'm using Oracle 8.1.7.4 (W2K) with heterogeneous services to connect via dblink to DB2/400.
I can read successfully several tables from AS400; but a multiple instance of 'hsodbc.exe' ( i.e. one task for one interrogation) are created on task manager.
    If I try to end a hsodbc I can't.
After several interrogation, I can't use again hsodbc and the system returns the following error:
ORA-28500 [Generic Connectivity Using ODBC] a dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed; at FIND_IMAGE_SYMBOL
cannot connect to shareable nvdbodbc. Using dummy function
    Initialization function ODBC not found.
    ORA-02063
Is there any particular configuration of heterogeneous services that avoid a multiple instance of 'hsodbc.exe' ?
This is a serious problem for us.
    Regards
    Andrea

    Andrea,
this normally indicates, that an established session is not correctly ended.
In general you need to close database links after you do not need them anymore.
A SQL*Plus session for example querying from the remote database will normally close the db link automatically while ending the SQL*Plus session.
Sometimes it could happen, that you end SQLÜPlus during long runnning queries; in this situaotion it might happen, that hsodbc will stay in the mmory. To get rid of those hsodbc processes, you may use pskill from www.sysinternals.com.
If the hsodbc processes are spawned by frequentyl running job systems, you need to close the database link manually afterwards.
    alter session close database link <db link name>;

  • How many instances of the CR Runtime can i have?

One of my customers has been using Crystal Reports for well over ten years.  They currently have a .Net windows service that runs reports and emails the output as a PDF to their clients.
This has worked successfully for many years and currently they are running CR XI.
The number of reports/clients has increased lately and they can no longer produced all the reports in the required timescales.
Therefore they would like to start a second .Net windows service to take on some of the workload.   Both services would run during the evening, producing the PDF's and then  emailing them.
However my question is whether it is possible to run two reports simultaneously on the same machine.  Is the .Net runtime capable of handling this?
We intend to upgrade to CR 2008.
    Many thanks

    Hi Richard
As far as I know, you could have as many instances of your programm/service as you want.
There is a 75 Job limit  in the CR Engine: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/f053713e-3e3d-2c10-2a81-f79259e54023?quicklink=index&overridelayout=true
Look at thread [] for more information.
Remember to close and Dispose the reportdocument after printing / generating the pdf .

  • How many instance are running ?

    Dear Friends ,
how do i figure out how many instance are running on database? OR , How many database are running in a server ? Is it possible to find out from 'os' or 'database' level ?
Waiting for ur kind reply ... ...
    Edited by: shipon_97 on Sep 4, 2008 10:38 AM

    Hi,
On unix/linux use: ps -fea|grep pmon
This will show all pmon process running (Each one is an Instance and you will see the name of the Instance here too), you can also check on /etc/oratab all the oracle databases in the server.
On Windows go to Control Panel, Administration, Services and take a look on the Oracle services.

  • possible that the JNI side generates many instances of the native code?

    Hi guys,
I asked this in a previous post but maybe with a bad constructed question.
I have C code that generate data (particles) for one client (non multithreading). In my webapp Im gonna have many clients but changing the C side is not initially my best solution.
When one client connects to the server ( calls the C code to generate data) it works ok, because I have only one client. When two or more clients connects to the server,
the data generated by the C side is DIVIDED over all clients. So, I need 'n' replications of the C side, non one C side, this way my data structures in the C side will be replicated
'n' times and could generate data for 'n' clients. Hope I have explained the right way.
    Please replies! :).

    1. Serialize the requests into the C code so that only one request is active. Save any state elsewhere. (Could be saved in java, could be saved in some C-side structure)Hi bschauwejava,
I think my problem is not concurrency, saving the state in java will mean a lot of overload but its an option.
Do you mean there is no way of having many instances of the C code ? this way I will have my state in each particular instance (one instance per client connected), and I could can forget about state.

  • Creat too many instance when writing an oracle database

    Hi
    I want to write Oracle database with database toolkits;
but..i found there are too many instance or called session(exceed the upper limit) created when the program running .  that makes the Orace server stop responding
Is there anything  i need to modify?
    Attachments:
    Oracle DB.vi ‏36 KB

Frankly I have never seen this problem, but then I make a point of never using the database connectivity toolkit. Assuming a Windows platform, Windows implements something called connection pooling so when you "close" a connection the OS inserts it into a pool so If you ask for another connection it doesn't actually open a new one it just gives you back a reference to one of the ones you "closed" before.
What OS are you running on?
    What version of Oracle?
Is the instance of Oracle local or on another computer?
How are you communicating with Oracle (odbc, oledb, etc)?
