So much fun!!!

I just had the best time that I have had with something practical in Java. I wasplaying around with a multiple table header code written by Nobuo Tamemasa which was written in 1.0 and found a post by BobW1 and Alderaan that fixed up a couple of changes required for it to work on 1.4. and it worked awesome. So if any of you guys still cruise through here at all, I just wanted to say thanks for your posts. And Nobuo Tamemasa thanks for making you code available to all, your skills are exceptional!!!!
Cheers, Oz

  • Having SOOOO much fun with Shake!

    If you all haven't bought Shake yet... run do not walk to the Apple Store and buy it... it's SUCH a great program. The Pro Training book is also fun to learn with, and the humor in it is refreshing indeed...
    Such power for a song of a price... it's incredible.
    Started playing with it a while ago, and learning all the things you can do with it is a bunch of fun.
    The slow mo, rotoscoping, keying etc, is so much better than what you can do with FCP, and at this price, it's no more than a set of plugins.
    Jerry

    Yes...this is a great application. Complex as ****...and it does tend to slow down the storytelling process. But, it you leave all the Shake work until you have the story told...then yaay.
    Man, as an editor nowadays you need to know more than just the editing and storytelling tool. Now we need to know FCP, and motion graphics with Motion and how to comp footage with AE and Shake...
    But, I'll admit...Shake is fun. IT wasn't until a recent LAFCPUG meeting that I got the Node structure...small rivers that lead to the main river or ocean...all flowing downhill.

  • Runtime.exec(), so much fun

    I'm at the bang your head on the monitor stage of this.
    I have some executables written in C that I need to be able to executed. They require an input file for processing and generate an output file with results, no big deal.
    They both run great from a command prompt. (I'm running on linux with j2sdk1.3.0 by the way)
    Now if I call one of them with Runtime.exec(), it runs perfectly as expected. Everything goes in, Everything comes out, Everyone is happy.
    If I call the other, It says it runs, I get an exit value of 0, the output file is created, but empty.
    I thought I could open a shell with Runtime and then try to get it to run from there to see if it would make any difference, but I was unable to get the shell to call the executables to run with the arguments for input. There is something weird with the way Runtime feeds the strings to the shell. I tried a couple variations.
    Then I thought, what the hell, I wonder if I can write a shell script that calls the executables and see what I get from there. So I wrote a little script that just calls the executable with one little hard coded input, just to see if it would run. Run the script from a command prompt, works great and as expected. Try to call the simple little script from Runtime.exec() and I get a segmentation fault.
    At this point, I'm almost giving up on an easy answer for what in theory should be taking a few lines of code.
    If anybody has a clue on how to approach this or what might be causing this, please let me know.
    for the whole saga

    Any response here would be appreciated.

    I guess clicking on links and reading is too much to
    ask.I admit I didn't read the thread there. Shame on me.
    But i did this litle test.
    Here I have a C program that reads from a file two numbers and writes some lines to another. The names are passed in command line.
    #include <stdio.h>
    #define NAME "[first test program]"
    int main(int argn, char** args) {
      FILE* in = NULL;
      FILE* out = NULL;
      int exitCode = 0;
      int nLoops = 0;
      int nSec = 0;
      int i;
      if(argn < 3) {
        fprintf(stderr, "%s usage: %s inFile outFile\n", NAME, args[0]);
        exitCode = 1;
        goto _exit;
      in=fopen(args[1], "rt");
      if(in == NULL) {
        fprintf(stderr, "%s Cannot open file %s\n", NAME, args[1]);
        exitCode = 2;
        goto _exit;
      out=fopen(args[2], "wt");
      if(out == NULL) {
        exitCode = 2;
        goto _exit;
      fscanf(in, "%d", &nLoops);
      fprintf(stdout, "%s read %d loops from %s\n", NAME, nLoops, args[1]);
      fflush(stdout);
      fscanf(in, "%d", &nSec);
      fprintf(stdout, "%s read %d seconds to sleep from %s\n", NAME, nSec, args[1]);
      fflush(stdout);
      for(i=0; i<nLoops; i++) {
        fprintf(stdout, "%s try to write line %d on %s ... ", NAME, i, args[2]);
        fflush(stdout);
        sleep(nSec);
        fprintf(out, "%s line number %d\n", NAME, i);
        fprintf(stdout, "done\n");
        fflush(stdout);
      fflush(out);
    _exit:
      if(in != NULL) fclose(in);
      if(out != NULL) fclose(out);
      return exitCode;
    }I created an executable c1 and the I modified the NAME and created another executable c2.
    The I wrote a small java test class :
    import java.io.*;
    public class test {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
         String[] cmd1 = { "./c1", "input1", "out1" };
         String[] cmd2 = { "./c2", "input2", "out2" };
         Runtime r = Runtime.getRuntime();
         try {
             Process p1 = r.exec(cmd1);
             Process p2 = r.exec(cmd2);
             BufferedReader r1 =
              new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p1.getInputStream()));
             BufferedReader r2 =
              new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p2.getInputStream()));
             String l1 = r1.readLine();
             String l2 = r2.readLine();
             while(l1!=null || l2!=null) {
              if(l1 != null) System.out.println("from java proc 1:\t" + l1);
              if(l2 != null) System.out.println("from java proc 2:\t" + l2);
              l1 = r1.readLine();
              l2 = r2.readLine();
         } catch (Exception ex) {
             ex.printStackTrace();
    }The imput files contains on a single line the number of lines to write on the output file and a sleep time between lines, like:
    100 1This test runs fine on my linux box.
    I have a RedHat 7.0 on a PIII, kernel 2.2.16-22 .
    You can try and see if it is working on your box. I think it will. My guess is that the problem is somehow on the second c program.
    I didn't read the other thread, so maybe the answer is there, but I'll ask: the problem is with a specific program, or allways happen with the second that you run?
    Anyway, it will be nice if you can isolate the problem in three small source files and send them here.
    Regards,
    Iulian

  • Haven't had this much fun writing code since....well, never.

    I was EXTREMELY skeptical of F3/JavaFX after seeing some examples posted out there last year. It looked hokey and complex.
    I started playing with JavaFX a couple of weeks ago (as a shortcut to a little game I was writing) and I have been hooked ever since!
    The overwhelming productivity that JavaFX gives me in turning my ideas into reality makes me smile every ScaleTransition I start() and every onMouseDragged() I capture.
    Kudos to the JavaFX team and even if the framework were to stall at version 1.1 (*cough* Oracle cough), I still have all the tools on the table that I need to be a happy little programmer.
    I hope to see all of your creations for the JavaFX challenge (I am losing a LOT of sleep working on my project!)

        Brianna, sounds like you are eager to get into that phone. We are also eager to get that to you. Based on the information you have provided there should be no delay in shipment. The tracking information is generated by the shipper when they first scan the package. I apologize on behalf of Verizon Wireless for any delay in providing the tracking information.

  • Iphoto unexpectedly quits.. so much fun

    Hi everyone
    Havent needed your help since the last time, but grateful for all your support.
    I have to ask for some assistance on a small problem which has been driving me mad!
    iPhoto starts up fine and allows me to view, shuffle, amend all the photos as normal, however when I plug in my digital camera and attempt to import photos, it looks like it is trying, says preparing to import but then quits and comes up with the message saying how the application has unexpectedly quit.
    Have tried restart, closing all applications, switching off external hard drive etc. but so far have had no luck.
    It also seems (off topic for this forum I know) that iDVD has followed the same suit now.
    Both these applications have been running smoothly ever since they were installed over a year ago, but have noticed small problems starting to occur about a week ago.
    iPhoto version 5.0.4
    i DVD 5.0.1
    Also if I decided to reinstall the application will I lose my photos currently sitting in the library? or is the computer smart enough to store them elsewhere?
    Thanks in advance for your help, look forward to getting some helpful advice soon.
    Sincerely
    Brad

    Hello, Brad,
    You probably need to rebuild your library. Something may have become corrupted.
    For the how-to, have a look at this post which addressed a similar problem:

  • IPod touch inner hardware revealed, not much fun iPod as apple claims

    As probably some of you know that apple ipod touch became available today on apple stores. I probably a lot of people are beginning to play with the new device that probably got delivered to your homes today on a fedex truck. As it is accustomed the people from ifixit take electronic devices apart and they revealed the insides of the hardware. Now this part which I'm about to say might come as a shocker to all, since I expected that apple from making the same improvements they did to the iPhone 4. I guess I was wrong, iFixit Teardown of iPod touch 4G has revealed that it only has 256MB of RAM like iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G, unlike the iPhone 4 which features 512MB of RAM. Teardown also reveals that the battery of the new iPod touch also pales in comparison to iPhone 4. iPod touch features 3.44 W/Hour battery while the iPhone 4 has 5.25 W/Hour. I don't why apple says battery improvement on their keynote while they put a lower w/hour battery, I guess Steve jobs is a liar.
    The iPod touch 4G is not worthy of an upgrade....the only thing is a shinier display and microphone are the only thing worthy of upgrading. Steve Jobs shame on you, what a disappointment of a product.

    I know Jobs said it's like the iphone but without the phone, but I couldn't really believe they would produce something that would compete that closely with their own product.
    No doubt it's an improvement in many ways over the 3g. Primarily with the ability to take HD and connect visually with friends and social networks such as facebook. I have heard that about half of smart phone bandwidth is used with social networking so I can see where that's a big deal for some.
    Thanks for the info.

  • Connectivity - losing the fun

    I have decided against going up to 2.01 from 2 as the move from 1.4 has been problematical. Although I haven't had the nightmares some iPhone users are experiencing, I have definitely noticed a downturn in performance (stickier actions), connectivity (very poor Safari usage) and stability (slowish contacts).
    With 1.4 I had very good connection and speeds, whether through EDGE or cell line. Now Safari has lots of problems downloading pages and I miss being able to have several web pages open at the same time - won't do it effectively now.
    I am tempted to try and return to the 1.4 set up, BUT, is the firmware irreversibly set after going to 2.0? I am sure Apple don't want people doing this, but my iPhone has stopped being quite so much fun. These forums indicate that some fundamental problems need addressing by Apple. Am I being unreasonable?

    If you have decided to not apply the upgrade, how would you expect to fix any problems you are having? The ONLY way any problems will be addressed is by applying an update. Two updates have been released. 2.0.2 is definitely better than 2.0.

  • Ical year view

    hi !
    i was wondering if someone has come up with a way of getting ical to show entire years. maybe a little help programm from the depths of the mac community ?
    thanks !
    pia

    Anyone got any latest news update of this?
    It makes absolutely no sense to me and makes year view poinless. I can't see multiple events.
    I can't believe how awfully regressive iCal is to be honest. It's not the mainstay of what I do but every time I use it I end up saying, "why the **** won't it let me do that?" or "why have they done THAT?"
    It's out of character with all the other Mac software that has always been useful and completely intuitive. ICal has been an orphan child for years and this Lion update has just papered over the cracks for me.
    How about allowing scrolling from one month to the next? How about running the months of the year into each other, especially  in year view? We don't make a big distinction between 30th June and 1st July in real life so why treat then as a separate page and block them out? It's so frustrating it makes me angry.
    I suppose it's like the arguments I used to have with PC users years ago. Yes it does everything, but it's not much fun doing it and fun has always been the Mac way.
    Come on Apple, look into this. It's not 3D modelling. It's a bloody calendar!

  • ICal year view colors

    Is there a way to change the color of the calendar events when you are viewing the calendar in the Year View?
    My wife and I both share each other's calendars. Her color is blue and mine is orange in the daily/weekly/monthly views it shows up with the corresponding colors. Yet, when I click on the year view I get this:
    I can understand the days where we both have events listed being a different color, but it should at least display blue for the days that have events for her calendar and orange for mine but that's not the case. Any way to fix this? Or can someone explain to me why it shows these colors instead?

  • I am unable to insert frames in the Director timeline via the menu pulldown.

    I have been using Director in my career since 1990 and have taught it at the college level. But in my newly purchased version 12, I am unable to insert frames in the Director timeline via the menu pulldown. Unfortunately this was after I couldn't get it to open up in the first place, giving me the error message Ive pasted in below. Creating a new user login on the same Mac Pro (10.8.2), it will now open - but I can't insert frames in the timeline. Everything else works great though!
    Not to bore you, but this is the long-time interactive project I began decades ago that I work on daily now that I am retired as a 100% disabled veteran:

    Having used the greatest multimedia application on earth for so many years, I want to thank Adobe for so kindly keeping Director alive after too many years of not knowing if 11.5 was going to be the last version. Thank you, thank you, thank you

    Hi Milky_au!
    I appreciate your response. I believe I've discovered what the problem is with not being able to insert multiple frames from the pulldown menu - and it appears to be a limitation in Director's score that'll actually be easy to avoid as I continue building my project.
    My background sprite channel and ten other channels I was using for navigation buttons had stretched well over six thousand frames (undoubtedly from a lot of copy and paste between DIR files of reused sprite channels over the past eighteen years that I've been working on this personal project that's been as much fun as using Director) while the sprites for the rest of the project had only reached just under three thousand frames.
    On the phone with Rajeev Saini at Adobe for a good half hour with him in control of my screen to test what I had done, he had discovered that a new DIR file had no problem inserting frames via the pulldown. Although the Command+] shortcut would still add one frame at a time in my working DIR, I wasn't seeing that as a viable solution to my wanting to add, say, a hundred frames in one shot so I could build an animation in that area of the score.
    I deleted three thousand frames that were being used by the background and those ten navigation buttons - and now inserting frames via the pulldown menu works exactly the way its supposed to now!
    I can now see that I have to keep an eye on that background and those button channels so they don't grow so far beyond where I'm actually building my project.
    I will pass this on to Adobe because it does seem like there's a definite limitation in the score. Luckily, that's easy to work around.
    Thanks again Milky_au for your kind response!

  • Can not pass data after while loop

    Hello.
    I have created a VI for my experiment and am having problem passing data outside a while loop to save on an excel file. The VI needs to first move a probe radially, take data at 1mm increment, then move axially, take data radially at 1mm increment, then move to the next axial position and repeat. It would then export these data to an excel file. The VI is a little complicated but it's the only way I know how to make it for our experiment. I have tested it and all the motion works correctly, however I can not get it to pass the data after the last while loop on the far right of the VI where I have put the arrows (Please see the attached VI ). Is it because I'm using too many sequence, case, and while loops?  If so, what other ways can I use to make it export data to the excel file?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Max

    Ummmm .... gee, I'm not even sure where to begin with this one. Your VI is well .... ummmm... You have straight wires! That's always nice to see. As for everything else. Well... Your fundamental problem is lack of understanding of dataflow programming. What you've created is a text program. It would look fantastic in C. In LabVIEW it makes my heart break. For a direct answer to your question: Data will not show up outside a while loop until the while loop has completed. This means your most likely problem is that the conditions to stop that specific loop are not being met. As for what the problem is, I don't even want to start debugging this code. Of course, one way to pass data outside of loops is with local variables, and hey, you seem to be having so much fun with those, what's one more?
    This may sound harsh, and perhaps be somewhat insulting, but the brutal truth is that what I would personally do is to throw it out and to start using a good architecture like a state machine. This kind of framework is easy to code, easy to modify, and easy to debug. All qualities that your code seems to lack.

  • Is there any way to repeat the last action on a new selection?

    I'm playing with Pages to see if I can use it instead of Word. I'm very expert with Word, just starting with Pages. Like some things, don't like some, but I think it's worth continuing to play with it to see if it will work for me. One problem I've been having is repeating an action. In Word, if you do something (in the particular situation I just had, it was deleting a row in a table), and then click on another place and do command-Y, it repeats what you did. Similarly, if you format a word as bold, say, and then select another word and do command-Y the second word will also be made bold. I realize the latter can be done in pages by selecting "emphasis" style for the second word, but I couldn't figure out any work-around for deleting the table rows (I tried selecting several non-adjacent rows, but "delete row" was greyed out on the actions menu). Any way to do this that I've missed?

    Thanks anyway. I'm sorry that Apple didn't include a "repeat" keyboard shortcut - going to the Inspector and then the actions wheel and then "delete row" time after time wasn't fun.
    I'm afraid I failed to communicate well about outline format - I didn't mean a bulleted or numbered list, I do know how to do that, but rather making a single character (or in my particular interest a symbol, the diamond and heart suit symbols) appear in outline text format. You can do it by going to format->font->outline, but if I want to do it for several occurrences of the same thing (or a few different things), it's not much fun to do it that way. But maybe I can define a character format that's outline and that will work. Still would prefer to have a keyboard shortcut to apply the character format though.
    Incidentally, while I'm talking about diamonds and hearts, is there any way to change the amount of space that gets put in after the diamond and heart symbols if you insert them using Edit->Special Characters? I write a lot of documents that use those symbols and lines end up unevenly spaced because of the large amount of space below each symbol (I've figured out a partial work-around - I defined a style for "body after suit symbol" that is raised enough to get the line spacing right, but that only works when I want to have a hard return at the end of the line with the suit symbols, since if the lines wrap, both lines have to have the same paragraph formatting. This problem isn't really Pages related - I have the same difficult with Word .

  • Where did all the setting for printing go in PSE8-Mac?!

    OK, I'm probably missing some obvious settings somewhere, please tell me after you read my rantings...
    I'm using the 'Full Edit' mode, assuming that is important. But the new Print Dialog looks like it has been dumbed down for some one, not sure who, however has it has me completely confused. There are now only three 'steps' for printing. One and two are self explanatory. However...
    Step three concerns paper size, image size and several other details. Just for testing, I created a new 4 x 6 inch, 300dpi page and drew some lines. Command-P. Proper printer is selected, select "Letter" as the paper size. 4 x 6 inch appears selected as the "Print size" (I thought that was because of the original page size, but it appears to simply be the default). That is a detail that could easily be over looked by a new user. If the original image is larger than 4 x 6, it will, obviously be either cropped or reduced to fit those dimensions! It seems to me that the "Select Print Size" should automatically assume to be the image size. OTOH, I can see that some people may want to do all their printing on one size of paper. In that case, why not have a preference for the default and let the user change it when they change paper sizes (if they want)?
    Now, if the user happens to notice that a new 8 x 10 inch image is going to be printed in a 4 x 6 area, she will now decide to check the other settings available in the pop up menu. OK, there IS an 8 x 10 inch choice. But look, what's this "Custom" choice? Let's investigate...Now this is strange! The defaults there seem to be 1.383 inches for height AND width! Who came up with that weird number?!
    Oh, there is a "Scale to Fit Media" check box. Checking that now makes the height and width somewhat closer to reality, they now indicate the pape dimensions. That IS logical, but not extremely helpful, IMHO. By the way, the second time one selects the "Custom" choice, the correct, original image size appeared in the Print size boxes. Although I cannot seem to get those to reappear. Oh well...
    My point is, how do these confusing configurations help? Beyond me, anyway.
    BTW, the dpi settings all seem to be 'computed' at one less than the number set by the user for an image. For example, a new image page created at 300 dpi shows 299 in the Custom dialog, 150 shows 149, etc. Close, but why not exact? Furthermore, why can't the user select any dpi they choose? Isn't that what the computer if for; calculate what happens to the pixels when they print at a different setting than the image? Sure, the user should be warned that terrible images my result, but if that's what the user wants, let it be done! Who's running this show, anyway? Oh yeah, I remember, now...excuse me for asking, I'm only a paying customer, what do I know?!
    Lastly, if one has more than one image open, every single one can easily be printed, accidentally. Why? Because they will all appear in the Print Dialog. Don't you see them? Over there on the left. Yeah, I see them, but why doesn't the image I have in front, the one I'm working on, be the one I probably want to print? Many of the others may simply be images I'm borrowing parts from. Why do the developers think I always want to print every image that might be open? I don't have any idea, either. Sure, there are a couple of ways to prevent this multiple image printing; select the one you don't want to print and use the "minus" button or simply close all those images before going to the Print dialog. Guess what. Using the 'minus' button only works for this printing, the next time you ask to print they will all be there, again. And, what if you aren't really finished using some of those extra images that you closed? Now you get to re-open them all again. Completely unnecessary steps because of poor user considerations/research, in my humble opinion. Again, this is exactly the thing that preferences are made for. Or, put them in the "Edit Guided" mode! Or, better yet, just give me back the old Print dialog! Nice!
    Now, I am extremely glad to see that PSE can now remember to keep that stupid Panel bin out of the way! Finally! Three more inches of screen to work with!!! Hooray!! Unfortunately, it still can't remember what the last setting for the jpeg quality was...still defaults to ZERO! Sure, that's the setting I always want to use, it's so much fun letting people try to guess what is in the image...one would think after 8 iterations this could be fixed. One down, umpteen to go. Oh well, what do you want for $80?

    Thanks for your listening/reading and I'll take your advice about dropping a note to the developers, but I won't be holding by breath! I doubt that they consider this a real problem. It's really just my ranting!
    Your solution is probably the 'fix' they might suggest, anyway. However, I'd rather have the screen space than a list of thumbnails of images I already have open. command-plus and/or minus is a pretty quick way of making it easy to see anything that might be visible. Of course, I'm sure there are other uses for the Project Bin that many find useful. Even though I have a 24" iMac, I rather like using the screen space the way I want, not an arbitrary way that got developed. I just don't see why developers can't program an app to allow every conceivable method of use by every living and future user! LOL!!!
    I guess today was the first time I've printed anything since installing 8. I was, quite confused when presented with the new Print interface. Actually, I thought that must be part of the 'Guided' set up which I assume leads one by the hand as much as possible. "Thank you Adobe, but I'm trying to avoid unnecessary contact with strangers right now." LOL! At least I know I didn't miss some setting somewhere.
    Thanks! Have a great weekend! And don't get scared too much tonight!

  • T61: Paid $1,800, suffered for 6 months, only to have to spend $100 on XP to (hopefully) make it functional. Let's hope I don't mess it up and void my warranty :)

    Dear Community:
    Here is the saga of me and my T61. I have tried to love my T61, and it has broken my heart.
    Last spring, I was accepted to law school, and I began searching for a notebook computer. If you know nothing about law school, you should just know that we use our computers in every class, every day. Knowing that I would need something reliable and hardy, I asked consulted with my friends in engineering. Unanimously (with the exception of the occasional Mac fanboy), they recommended the thinkpad. It's tough as nails, they told me. It will last me for years, they said.
    I ordered my T61 in May. It was caught up the the shipping problems, and took over a month to ship. No big deal. I was annoyed by having it take so long to ship, but I was not peeved too much.
    Since then, I have been in hell. From day one, this machine has crashed daily (running Vista Home Premium). It crashes when I search the internet. It crashes when I type in word. It crashes when I play freecell. An honest estimate is that this computer will crash at least once every three hours. I'm sure that much of the blame for this goes to Microsoft, but I hope that you can sympathize with my plight.
    Even if we look past the crashes, and that everything runs slowly with Vista, I've had my host of hardware problems. The screws that hold the palm rest on back themselves out about once a month. It's a minor gripe that I should have to tighten screws on my laptop, but it honestly concerns me that I should even have to take a screw driver to it.
    Also, there has always been a sizable patch of dead pixels (About the size of a "b" in Times New Roman, 12pt.) on the right center portion of the lcd. They stare at me every day. They anger me every day.
    My T61 has already been in for service once for a fan that stopped working. I was the only person without a computer in class that week. Sure, it wasn't much fun trying to take notes by hand, but I can live with things like that. They happen. I'm honestly impressed with the turn around time and the courteousness of the tech that helped me over the phone.
    Last week, I tried to watch a DVD. Something must seriously be out of balance in the DVD player because the noise from it vibrating drowned out the speakers so bad that I couldn't understand the dialog in Michael Clayton from about six feet away.
    Yesterday, I was finally pushed over the edge. With only 5 word documents and one pdf file open, IT LOCKED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF MY CRIMINAL LAW EXAM! I lost an hour worth of work on a three hour exam. I imagine that to someone not familiar with law school, I sound like a neurotic tool for freaking out about this, but I almost broke down and cried right there. We're graded on a strict curve, and I have a tough enough time making grades having to compete against my capable class mates. I hate that I'm going to receive a worse grade than I should have because I also had to compete against my laptop.
    I feel like I have been lied to. I bough a think pad because I was told they are bullet proof, and this machine has turned out to be a complete lemon. I've babied this machine, searched diligently for patches that would help the system freezes, packed it in a padded laptop bag every day, and it has done nothing but hurt me every day. How can I obtain a refund so that we can part friends?
    Best,
    John

    given your experiences with daily crashes, why would you entrust your thinkpad to survive a three-hour exam without crashing or locking up?   if your thinkpad is to be used in a mission-critical environment then why not instead use a proven OS such as XP or server 2003?   i sympathize with your overall experience but, with all due respect, fail to understand why you wouldn't be more proactive in finding a solution to your above problem–especially as a law student who is learning to analyze and interpret our nation's legal system.   i apologize if i sound overly critical here but if i were your professor and you came to me with the same story above then i would ask the exact same questions.
    it sounds like all of your problems can be fixed.   crashes and lockups can be fixed by installing vista clean or by switching to XP.   dead or stuck pixels in your display can be fixed under warranty if the defects meet replacement criteria.   screws backing out of your palmrest can be fixed under warranty by replacing the palmrest and associated screws.   and, the DVD player, if defective, can also be easily replaced under warranty.
    i doubt lenovo will buy back your machine because of the aforementioned issues but i'm sure that their service department can make thinks right one way or another.
    i hope everything works out for you.   good luck.

  • Converting an SD LiveType project to HD?

    Dear LiveType Gurus,
    Ok, I spent forever crafting a LiveType 15-second intro to a client's video editing project in SD. When they brought their footage in to edit, it was in an HD format with 16:9 aspect ratio instead. Is there a way to convert the project and resize/center all of the LiveType objects for the new HD/Aspect ratio? Or do I have to rebuild the entire project from scratch?
    Thanks for any help.

    There's no way to do this automatically in LiveType. If you change the project settings (which you've probably tried) to HD 16x9 you won't get the results you want.
    I've always just changed the settings and then reformatted the layout and sizes by hand. Not so much fun.
