So my song file actually is corrupted...

Ok, so I got my new macpro, I thought everything was working great, until I tried to move some audio and it disappeared completely.
bah...
Ok.. so-- I have approx 100 tracks of audio + software instruments.... What is the best way to copy over my data to a new song file, audio placement, note events, plugins, and automation (for plugins too)..
This feels like a nightmare, but... maybe someone here has some advice.
I did try the whole select all & apple-c and then apple-v in a new song.. The result was ugly, all my audio parts overlapped ontop of each other.
-patrick

It's so incredibly evil.
all i can think is that you must have been very bad in a past life...
try:
select all you midi tracks and make them start at the beginning of the file and end at the end of the song.
make midi files of your audio tracks. (duplicate the track and put a midi region on it.
move automation to region.
select all midi regions and export as midi file. your tempo info should go with it.
save each of your tracks as csts (channel strip settings)
export your audio as OMF (preserves interleaved)
import your midi and then load up your csts.
import your audio.
move region data to automation.
i really think you should stop work in this file - you are just going to go from bad to worse. errr....maybe that should be from worse to explosion.

  • Can't listen to an entire song in Itunes.  Randomly just skips the song in different places while it's playing.  Song file is not corrupted - even doing it on a new song I just bought from Itunes today.  Help :(

I just bought a new laptop and transferred over all of the songs.  But I checked the ones that skip in Itunes in another music player and they work fine there - the files are not corrupted - and like I said, even a brand new song I just bought skips.  The priority for Itunes is set to High.  This comptuer has very high specs (it's a Lenovo IdeaPad) and the processing performance never even goes above 10%.  I am a Disc Jockey and this is a severe problem.  Please help...
If downgrading to a previous version of Itunes is the answer, how do I go about doing that?   I'm currently running 10.5

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Corrupted song file downloaded

I've had, I think, my first problem with downloading a song from iTunes music store. The last song on the album is currupted, for lack of better words. Plays like any other itunes song, but literally skips, just like the old albums I used to listen to. Initially I thought the mac was being stressed/overutilized and resources were thin, so I closed down all programs and tried again. Same exact thing, same place/time.
I forgot about that song until this week when I played it again and exact problem happened again. Its only this one song.
Is there a way to get a song that appears to have been corrupted on download re-downloaded without having to pay for it again?

  • Song Files are missing?

i downloaded the version of i tunes 7.5 and now when i try and play my songs they have a little exclamation point next to them and it says something like; "could not locate this file would u like to locate it?" i click yes and it takes me to My Music folder. When I click on the folder that holds the folders with my songs that i bought in them nothing appears. I bought a new song on i-tunes as a test and it plays fine. Did something go wrong in the download? I tried dowloading it again and nothing changed. I am afraid to completely unistall I-Tunes because it might get rid of all my songs, i don't know what will happern when i plug in my i-pod nano (newest edition). I am afraid it will sync and delete all my songs on it.

  • Can't permanently delete song file from external hard drive

    Hi Guys,
I want to be able to delete actual song files from my external hard drive as well as from my iTunes library in one easy, lazy step, via the iTunes window. I am not interested in finding and manually deleting the files through my external hard drive.
When I hit delete it only deletes the song from my iTunes library but not the actual destination music file aswell (from my external hard drive). I am aware this is because my external hard drive is not the original "Music\iTunes\iTunes Music" destination that the apple crew have designed and so I am not offered the option of sending the file to the recycle bin or "trashing it" when I hit the delete key (this permanently deletes the file).
I am also aware that I can find the music file destinations and delete them through the iTunes window by hitting "CTRL & R" or by the "show in windows explorer" command. I am not interested in these options either.
Basically, I have 20,000 songs to clean up and don't want to have to take my laptop with me to my grave...
I suspect there is some way of changing things around, possibly via some particular parameters to be set in the "Edit" > "Preferences" > "iTunes Music Folder Desintation" command area but still haven't been able to crack it.
Any help would be welcomed with open arms.
    Cheers.
    Labia.

    Camoracer,
You are right. Pardon me. The majority of the music that I was trying to delete off my external hard drive was in a separate folder (on the external hard drive), not in the directory specified in my iTunes preference settings.
    Problem solved!!!
This should also be a lesson to those who believe a one step delete function (from iTunes library and actual music file) is not possible when the music files are stored on an external hard drive (or other storage medium for that matter). I have read a host of other forums who say a one step delete function is not possible without additional software.. Perhaps these posts were from the authors of the software trying to make a $.
    Cheers.

  • Using iPod as transferring device damaged song files

I searched the forum for an hour-hour and a half, and haven't found anything.
Here's the basis of what happened: I dragged my user folder by accident, and I needed to reinstall OS X. I usually transfer files with my iPod, and it always works, except this time. This time, I had many files that I needed to save, so I put them on the iPod, but deleted the music off it. I didn't know I could get it off the iPod (With Mac, recent one month switcher), so I deleted the songs in iTunes, so I would have enough space. Once I reinstalled, I connected the iPod and got the music files. They were all damaged in some way, some completely unusable. Is there any reason why this would happen? It's Mac formatted, and it has been flawless for a year. I'm usually very tech-savvy, but didn't expect any of this. I backup my songs as data on iPod when I am going to transfer them. Is there anyway to "undamage" the files, or do something else? I'm basically just looking for how/why this happened.
I made a very long email to Apple, but I didn't receive a response. Here it is, more details.
"I moved my User folder by accident and my settings got messed up, so I had to reinstall Mac OS X 10.4. Before I did that, I copied all my files onto my iPod that I needed, not knowing about Archive and Install, but I did not have enough space. I deleted the music files of my iPod (G4) within iTunes, and put the files on there, because I didn't know if I could get them off that way or not. When I went to put the files on the renistalled Mac OS X 10.4, some files didn't play, some skipped, some ended and went to the next song, and some songs played clips other other songs in my library then ended. My purchased music does not play, and is messed up, along with the other files. My files outside of the music was fine, but something went very wrong when it came off or went on the iPod. Almost all the files are completely damaged, and I had many, many songs in my iTunes Library. I spent over $100 dollars in the iTunes Music Store, and downloaded the songs on another computer, and have been transferring songs like this for a long time, on both Windows XP and Mac OS X. This is the first time anything like this has happened to me, and because nothing ever went wrong on iTunes on Mac or Windows, I never made backups, as it would take a long time with the music I had, and not many people I communicate with mention that they do it, or do it. I don't know what happened this time when I copied the songs over to my iPod this time, but this time I know I reformatted it to a Mac format, not the one Windows XP formats it in, and had the original firmware. It may also have been because there were more files this time, more freeware applications that I did not want to redownload, text files, pictures, folders, and music than before, but I did not expect that to make any difference. I had returned a PPC Mac Mini because the Intel Mac Mini was released 14 days after we bought it and had it shipped to us, and used the iPod to transfer the files I had made/put on the PPC Mac Mini onto the Intel Mac Mini. I put my files on the PPC Mac Mini with my iPod, but because I had 400-500 less songs, I didn't have to delete the music off the iPod in iTunes. Because I thought nothing would go wrong, as it never had before, I used Erase & Install, instead of Archive & Install, which may have kept the now corrupted music files. The only files damaged were the song files, which are almost all damaged. I had copied the whole iTunes folder from my previous Mac Mini, and had the iTunes Library Data.xml, along with all the files. I copied the files from the iPod into the Music folder on the computer, and used the Library file. After opening it and changing files to see if it would fix my problem, it became damaged, and I didn't know what to do. I copied all my music from the iPod into the iTunes window, and it was still corrupted, this time losing my playlists. I did that process one more time, and then lost all Smart Playlists, wihch I used very often. I tried to test the files on a Windows PC, but it could not read the iPod, because it was formatted on a Mac. My older music is the things that are mostly affected, so my recently ripped music has less problems. I have no way of finding out what caused the problem and fixing it myself, so here is what I'm asking. I'm asking if there is a way to get my music back, from either a cache or something on my iPod, or from a file that was left on the harddrive during Erase & Install, fix the damaged files, test it on a Windows PC without having to erase the iPod, or in the very least replace the Purchased songs in iTunes. I looked in the Terms of Sale and it did not say anything about if your files were damaged, or something that was related to my situation enough for me to fix it. The things I want the most are all the songs back on a computer, not damaged, or at the very least a refund or replacement of purchased songs. I have Apple Care, and am proceeding to see what it can do to help me."

If the path to a file is too long for iTunes, you get this message. Unfortunately the limit of iTunes is less than allowed in Windows.
iTunes fix claims to be able to deal with this, but I haven't tried it myself:
    http://itunesfix.com/iTunes%20Fix.html
    http://itunesfix.com/iTunes%20Fix.html
(I am trying out two diffent ways of giving a link. Hopefully they will both point at the same place.)

  • Files show as corrupted in LR 5, when stored on an external HD

Basically, the title sums it up. I was running out of space on my 500GB laptop HD, so I decided to start saving RAW files to an external 1TB HD. Immediately, the files started showing up as corrupted when viewed in Develop module. Only a few at first, but it got progressively worse - to the point of 80% corrupt and unusable.
I thought this was a HD problem. So I went ahead and bought a second HD (2TB) and started saving files there. Same problem. Now, when I try to save the same files to the laptop HD - no problem, all is well (as it has always been before; the issue was space).
I was willing to allow for it to be the external drive problem. But what are the chances that TWO external hard drives in a row will be problematic (especially when everything else on them is fine)? Not high, I reckon.
So I am trying to wrap my mind around it and it drives me mad - I cannot work, I don't know what is going on and I have no idea what to do... It cannot be the camera - again, the same files are fine when saved to the internal HD. It cannot be the SD card - I am using several, from different companies and bought at different times, and again, the files are fine in the internal drive. It cannot be the external drive failure - I tried two in a row, and everything else on those drives is fine. But when viewed in LR 5, those files on external drives show up as corrupted. I am losing my mind!
I would much appreciate any help and input. I have no idea where to turn with this - it is not computer problem per se, and there is no "Lightroom repair" that I know of...
    Thanks for looking at this!

Thank you for replying. That is right, I am quite suspicious of memory - my laptop is full to the brim and I suspect that this may affect available memory and cause some problems in LR. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about computers to be certain.
The card reader - quite simple: the card reader is the same, whether I save the files to the internal or external drives. I put the SD card in it, then copy the files and paste them where I want them. When done, I then open the LR and synchronize the folder. When I copy and paste files to the internal drive, the images look fine in LR; when I copy and paste them into the external drive, 80% of them come up visually corrupted in LR. Since the same card reader is used in both cases, and the files are OK when saved internally, I am assuming it is not the card reader.
So, basically, when I became aware of the problem, I tried copying and saving the same file both internally and externally from the card reader, in order to verify what was going on. That is how the same file (more than one, actually) ended up on three different drives.
Right now, my instinct is to copy everything to an external drive and clear some space on the internal one. I am very apprehensive though - what if something is causing file corruption on the external drives - in that case I will be corrupting everything when I migrate the files. Hence my previous question - are the files actually corrupted, or do they simply appear corrupted in LR because of memory issues? As I said, I don't know enough about this to be certain and do not know what to do.

  • Since iTunes v8.1 install I lost most of my song files

Since installing v8.1 a few days ago when I open iTunes it shows that I have 1250 songs on 7.54 GB. But, when I try to select a song, a window opens stating; THE SONG COULD NOT BE USED BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL FILE COULD NOT BE FOUND. WOULD YOU LIKE TO LOCATE IT? I click, YES. Next window opens titled; CHOOSE A FILE. My iBook disk selection is highlighted. It indicates that I have only 180 song files. Why does iTunes v8.1, when opened, show me that I have 1250 songs (which is how many there should be) but there are only 180 songs that actually exist and are randomly from various albums? Have I lost all those other songs? And, what do I now do to get back all those songs I paid for from iTunes store and from other music web sites if they are gone?

iTunes upgrades don't recycle your preferences from the previous version - you need to reset them to how you had them before (e.g. "Keep my iTunes Library organised" and 'Copy songs to my iTunes Library when importing", etc). Having done that, quit and relaunch iTunes and see if the problem is gone.
Why does iTunes v8.1, when opened, show me that I have 1250 songs (which is how many there should be) but there are only 180 songs that actually exist and are randomly from various albums?
The 1250 is taken from the iTunes Library database file (in your ~user/Music/iTunes folder) - this is all the song information and locations, not the songs themselves. iTunes 8.1 SHOULD have found these from the database file though.
Have I lost all those other songs?
No, an upgrade of iTunes has no impact on the actual music, which will be exactly where it was before.
And, what do I now do to get back all those songs I paid for from iTunes store and from other music web sites if they are gone?
I suspect that the 180 songs are in the ~user/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music folder, which is the default location, and is where Apple Store Purchased tracks always get downloaded to. The other songs will be on your HD where they were before. Try using a Spotlight search on one of the titles of the "missing" søngs. Then having found where the songs are located, use Add to Library to get them into iTunes.

  • Song Files Won't Open!

    My Dilemma:
I'm a songwriter who has been composing songs on Garageband for a couple years now, and i'm pretty familiar with the software. About two weeks ago, my hard drive failed and I had to take my Macbook into the tech department at my school where they replaced my hard drive.
They recovered all my files, except all the Garageband files aren't opening. The files are there, but when I open them, the blue loading bar appears, says "initializing", and then says nothing at all and the blue spiral load bar doesn't load any further. I've let it sit for about five minutes, and the load bar never starts to open the tracks.
    Are the files corrupted now?
I was wondering if anybody knew alternate ways to open the files weather they were corrupted or not, or change the files so I can open them again. Or, if anyone else had this problem and knew how to fix it.
Also, if it helps, all of the files are now proceeded by the extension .band and they previously weren't.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated, as many of the song files were works in progress.
    -I have Mac OS X 10.4.11
    -Garageband 3.0.4

    Hey there,
when i "open package contents" for the song files... there are three folders. Contents, Freeze Files, and Media. There is also something called projectdata that seems to be a document.
The contents folder has a document called Pkginfo
The freeze files folder is empty
And the Contents folder has a number of .aif files, which seem to be the audio tracks.
Thank you SO much for your help.

  • Need 1 minute of silence between mp3 song files

I think this is a unique problem! I am making CDs to be played on a DVD player that plays mp3s. I need one full minute of silence between each mp3. Since I couldn't find a program to give me that much space I created a one-minute silent mp3. Problem solved, right?
I can play it on my computer and it works with the spaces. Unfortunately the DVD player reads the files differently. When I play it, the player plays all the song files and ignores the silent files until the end of the CD.
So I thought I'd rename the silent file a different name each time I added it (like s1, s2, s3, etc.). Unfortunately iTunes recognizes it and renames the rest of the silent files every time I rename one.
I am confounded by this. There must be a way to do this. I would so appreciate suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Becky

    Limnos wrote:
You may need multiple silence files, one for each gap. Sounds like a waste of space but they shouldn't take up much room as mp3s since silence occupies little space. Then try your renaming experiment.
Alternatively you can use a tool like mp3Trimmer to actually splice silence onto the start of each file, though I realize you may not want to alter the files when you want to play them normally.
If I were to make multiple silence files, it would have to be hundreds of them. That's one of the problems too. I have free time, but I'd like to spend it doing other things!
I hadn't thought of using the Trimmer to splice silence onto each file, and that may be possible, but again, I'd have to do it to hundreds of songs. I'm putting (or would like to put) about 150-200 songs on each disk.
I will give it some thought.
Another problem is that different DVD players apparently read the CDs in different ways. The first CD I made plays with the blank spaces between songs on MY player, but not on the one I want it to play on.
I am trying another experiment: I'm burning the files onto CDs via the Finder instead of with iTunes. ITunes really wants to be a control freak and there's just not room for two of us in this situation.
I have one CD with the silent files not renamed and one with them renamed and I'll see how they work. Wish me luck.
    Thanks,

  • ITunes Lost Link to Song Files

    Hi!
iTunes has lost the link to the actual song files, as well as my purchased music. The song file is still on the HD, but iTunes thinks it's missing. I can reconnect them one by one via the: "The song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" dialog, but I don't want to spend my weekend doing that.
My question is, is there a way to do this en masse? Re-adding the files via cmd-o isn't really possible, because there's not enough HD space.

I am having the same problem with my mac. I created playlists from my library (music all pre-formatted to mp3) and burned the disc. Later, when I wanted to play music from a particular artist on that disc, some of the music I put on the disc is not available, but could be located by hand. One heck of a lot of hassle, when you bring a random 100 songs to a playlist and later find only 75! Itunes could not find the ones with ! beside the box was the message I got when wanted to play from my library.
Have you heard anything from anyone that helped you avoid spending a weekend re-locating and transferring music?

  • Does anyone have a quick way to have iTunes on my ipad list which songs are actually downloaded to the device ?

Does anyone have a quick way to have iTunes on my ipad list which songs are actually downloaded to the device ?

If you want to import movies into iTunes you can use that to stream & convert to Apple TV compatible formats as Rudegar suggested.
Another option is to install a media streaming application like Plex or Kodi on a PC/ Mac.
    https://plex.tv/
    http://kodi.tv
Those should be able to stream to the Amazon Fire stick. They also can re-encode video 'on the fly'. So if you format is not supported the computer converts it & the device on the TV gets a format that does work (not including DRM protected files) - obviously this requires a computer with enough power to convert, but many recent computers have enough power to do that. There is setup involved, but these servers are a good once configured.
Roku has a Plex app that also works well on the TV.
The Apple TV does not work well with these apps, it expects you to use iTunes.

  • Library completely messed up - song files overwritten by other songs

I am completely devastated. All of a sudden most of my song files are corrupt. When I click on a song to play it, it plays a different track in my library (as if the song is named incorrectly, which it isn't). Choosing to show the song file in the finder works fine, it shows the original file with the correct naming and correct file size.
But it isn't that song. It's a completely different song which starts wherever in the original song file. When the original song time ends the completely different song continues in the next original song file.
The original song files seem to randomly have been overwritten by other tracks in my library.
Same thing happens if I play the song in a different media player. Copying the file and adding it to a different computer/iTunes turns out the same way... although now it only includes the time and song title of the original track, artist and all other info is gone.
Should I go and kill myself? Or is there the slightest chance of a solution to this mess?
How could this happen? It's so weird.
The worst part of this is that I haven't been able to afford a large backup disk for my music files in quite some time. But for me, with iTunes, it's usually not the disk that has given up on my, it's been the library file. I've surpassed many library crashes but have never been near something as strange as this.
The disk seems to be running without problems or errors.

Thanks for your efforts in helping me out.
It is not a smart playlist. Standard.
Here are some screen shots to display the error.
    1. File location when browsing for it in the finder - only two songs from the album available.
    2. Songs in Music library - clicking upper left and searching upper right.
    3. Regular playlist including all album tracks - playing one of the songs from the album.
    4. File location (same as in 1.)- after choosing File -> Show in Finder
