So perplexed

hey everyone.
i will try to explain this!
1. long almost two hour project.
2. when done i moved everything off of lacie external to lacie firelight 60 gig external.
3.have to go back and edit a tiny bit.
4. connect firelite to powermac g5/start up FCE3.0/ expect to have to reconnect media/no-everything was there (?) minus a few off line clips.
5. of course everything had to be re-rendered, and therin lies the problem. It is rendering really slow, then freezing, mostly all of the audio needs rendering. I ran disc utility, mac janitor, cache out, tried moving all the files back to the lacie, but then everything WAS offline, and I only know how to reconnect everything one by one, which there are literally THOUSANDS of files. So, I moved it all back to the firelite, only to regain my original problem of slow or no audio rendering.
6. I have no plist to trash, which i find weird.
7. if I go clip by clip, it renders slow but does seem to render, until i run out of memory. There was only 8 gigs left on the firewire, so i moved a bunch of clips off that back to the lacie, and now there are 20 gigs on the firelite. I have almost 100 gigs on my system hd, and about 65 on the lacie.

My first question is: Why did you move from one external to the other?
My second: What are the specs on that Firelite. It should have a minimum speed of 7200 rpm. Free space should be at least 25% of the drive size
Re-rendering a two project over FW is gonna be slow, not doubt about it. Make sure you have no other FW devices hooked up while you are doing this
Make sure your Render options are set to render everything.
Think about why the audio needs rendering. Does all your audio match your sequence settings; ie if your System Settings are for NTSC DV your audio should be 48K. Any MP3s should be converted to AIFF. Some rendering of audio is gonna happen if you have lots of audio tracks, cross audio dissolves, that sort of thing.
If you have nested Sequences, render out all the individual sequences first, before rendering the nest. Try doing small batch renders. Set In and Out points to define say, 30 minutes of sequence then select Render In to Out. Of course, save every time you do that! Then move on to render out another portion.

Yes. Well, sort of: instead of a "path", set the pen tool to "shape" in the tool properties. Then set the fill colour to transparent, and the stroke colour to the colour you want. You can also set the stroke width.
Not perfect, but at least you can see the path more clearly - the anchor points and handles still remain the default colour. Open the path panel, and right-mouse click the path shape to create a selection based on that shape. The Paths panel menu also allows you to create work paths based on that shape.
Unfortunately when you try to move the handles the black thin outline appears again until you release the mouse button.
This is one of several things that works better in Photoline: in Photoline, once the path is set to a specific colour, editing the path uses the actual colour and stroke width. which is extremely handy for creating path based selection with awkward background colours and/or a high resolution screen. In Photoline the handles and bezier points are also much, much larger, which makes it rather simpler to work with as well - especially on a higher resolution screen. And when selected the handles and points are a clear red with a black outline - again easier to spot and identify. I just works better, in my opinion.

Perplexing problem with iMac suddenly not recognising iWire access

I have a 24" iMac which has been running the most uptodate OSX Leopard software (I also have a PowerBook running the same, which is relevant).
Two days ago, my iWire connection to my broadband suddenly stopped. That is, when I opened up my iMac and it started searching for my iWire network, it found it, but then continually asks me for my WEP password, which I enter, then it says there a connection timeout and it will not connect to it.
Now, I know the Airport network is working fine, and the password hasn't changed, because I still get a perfect connection to my broadband via my Powerbook.
So, I've since tried a clean system install, and whenever the iMac searches for a computer link, it asks for a WEP password which I put in - accurately - and it no longer recognises it, even though I'd done nothing the change the settings. The only clue I have is that, during a software update, I do recall a firmware update for iWire, which I think I accepted. Has that caused it? But if so, why does it not affect my other PowerMac.
Am absolutely flummoxed and perplexed. Is this a firmware problem, in which case, how do I solve it?

I see that you had an issue with your aiport express not working, try this out:
Firstly, there are some issues with the airport utility for Leopard and AX.
you might want to try this:
1) update the firmware of the AX to the latest by downloading the firmware update from the link below:

2) IF it still persists, Using the Airport Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow will sucessfully resolve the issue.

Perplexity about setters in EJB 2.0

I read the norm carefully and had some practice with BEA WebLogic.
One thing leaves me in some perplexity:
setter functions need to be abstract. How are we supposed then to verify the parameters, e.g. to check that they are not null, or fall within a given range, and all other sort of business rules ?
If someone has ideas on this subject, I'd be happy to read them !

Oho! I've big plans for 2.0, but I completely missed this issue. After half an hour with the final 2.0 specification, I share your perplexity. At bare minimum, we must have enforcement of nullity constraints!
I will watch this thread for further thoughts.

Perplexed by gradient mesh

I have used gradient mesh along time. Usually it does exactly what I want it to do so I never questioned how it worked. Today, I was working on a project and I can't seem to get the mesh to do what I want.
So I went out to do some research and I can't seem to find information on this topic anywhere. It seems almost mystical. So if there is a great resource that explains the logic behind how Illustrator choose the start and end point of a mesh line, please send it to me and I apologize in advance if this info is easily found.
Here is my problem. I have a curve. If I click into the curve where I want a mesh line, the mesh line doesn't follow the shape of the object.

When I use create gradient mesh, this is the mesh that I get. My question is why didn't the mesh lines follow the curve of the object. The first two columns are fine but the last column is totally messed up. Why did it choose to use the points on the outside of the curve instead as the end points? I get similar results when using the mesh tool.
As far as I can tell there is no way to change this once the mesh is created. You can't delete an end point and you can't move it without totally rebuilding your shape.
I created a simplified shape with less points and it did the exact same thing.
Does anyone have any help or advice on this topic. I don't understand why you aren't able to control where the start and end point is of a mesh line when you use the mesh tool. How does it choose a start and end point? This just perplexes me. It just seems random to me but I am sure that is just because I haven't figured the pattern yet.

I can no longer mirror and of my monitors VGA or HDMI, my itunes which supplies iphone and ipad has disabled podcast app so that I can't listen to my favorite programs and I find out after the fact that Office software is not compatible with OSX 8.6.
Forget about the fact that itunes looks like it was developed by a 1980s MS-DOS programmer. Its kludgy, limited and generally does not work.
What does one do? Frankly, I used to use macs because they were like info appliances that just worked. Now the time to manage tech glitches from the company has become way too costly. Sadly, Apple has become Microsoft and Microsoft seems to become Apple.

Unable to join airport network - Totally perplexing

Hi
I work remotely from home. I have an intel iMac as my desktop and a macbook for when I am out and about. For a few days now I have been having enormous problems with my internet connection. I use Airport Express (n) to connect via my modem in another room.
I cannot get any connection to the internet on my iMac, yet I connect fine on my Macbook sitting 6 inches from it, both using the same Express.
When I run network diagnostics on the Imac it goes through the usual checks, green buttons up to 'Internet' and then asks what network to join, scans and finds the network that my Macbook is on. I type in the password and I get an 'Unable to join Airport Network' Trust me the password is right and I have checked it via keychain.
I am completely perplexed why two computers using the same wifi settings a few days have changed where only one can.
Any thoughts?

To rule out wireless encryption, if you temporarily disable encryption on your 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station's (AXn) wireless network, can the iMac connect now? If so, try using WPA2 Personal for your encryption setting and try again. How about now?

Return "Perplexed"

No matter what resources I study regarding AppleScript’s idle handler I return perplexed. I'm suspicious that my preconceptions may be the culprit.
Two aspects stand out:
1) In stark contrast to HyperTalk, it seems that AppleScript does not send itself idle messages — so perhaps the idle handler’s purpose is distinct from it typical HyperTalk use — and it’s unclear to me what mechanism, if any, continues to call the idle handler. Does a call to idle set up a process which can later be dismissed?
2) The Return statement of an “on idle” seems to perform a function distinctly different than the Return statements of other handlers ... as if it's actually is a different statement in disguise. It seems to specify, not a value that get returned, but the length of time to wait before the idle handler next executes.
Another question. Is it possible to invoke an “on idle” handler in a normal script. I get the feeling AppleScript needs to be in some sort of run state ...
Obviously I’m not clear on the concept, and even Matt Neuber’s book hasn't helped me.
Here's a failed example which I've treid to run in Script Editor:

That's correct. There is no automatic ide handling. To be honest it's been so long since I've used HyperTalk I don't remember how it works there, but I know they don't directly translate.

That is exactly what it does - it tells AppleScript how long to wait before calling the idle handler again. This is documented in the AppleScript Language Guide section about idle handlers.

The script does need to be saved as a 'stay-open' script in order for the idle handler to work.

Contrary to your expectation, the return 1 statement does not return '1' to the result pane. It tells AppleScript to come back in 1 second and run the idle handler again.
Try:

Perplexing problems with Mail

I have been experiencing a perplexing problem with Mail over the last couple of days. After I have deleted all junk mail, etc., the trash can shows 4 messages and the junk mail folder shows 1. When you open either folder, there is a blue dot to show a new message, but neither sender nor subject is listed, and the time sent is whatever the current time is. When you open the "message," it says "the message from <unknown sender> about <unknown subject> has not been downloaded from the server. You must take this account online in order to download it." If you delete it, it seems to go away until the next time you open the folder. Tonight, when new messages came in, the trash & junk mail didn't show they had anything in them, but when you open each one, the new message shows up. If you delete any one of the 3 copies of the new message, it disappears, along with the original one in the inbox. Any suggestions? What can I do? Do I have a virus? or is there a glitch in my mail program. I just had Tiger installed in December - have not had this issue until the last 2 weeks. The 1st time, it just showed one message and I got it cleared off (don't remember how). This current episode has been ongoing for the last 2 days and seems to be getting worse. Help!!

are you using an IMAP acct?
If you have the option to go to a POP acct, I got rid of many of the indexing pain doing that. Contact your mail server.

Perplexing Wireless Router Issue! Please Help!

OK Guys and Girls, I could really use some help. I have a wireless router Mod. WRT54G ver. 2.0, and yes it has the firmware upgrade. The problem that I am current having is this, my computer can connect to the router no problem, and i can access the settings too, but it will not let me access the internet at all. It's not the cable modem because I can hook up my laptop to it and get internet. So in short the router isn't, for some strange reason, letting my computer access the internet but the router can access the web. Please any suggestions are welcome. Thank you in advanced.

Access the setup page of the router by launching an
Browser and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter.
When it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field
empty and provide password as "admin" (Without quotes)
click on ok.
On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be
on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings
button.
Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".
- Click on enable
Click Clone & click save settings
Check WAN Ip on Status page of router ....
If getting Valid Ip .... try going online
If not ... power cycle for 4-5 minutes & then again check the WAN Ip address .....

A perplexing "put" problem... within CS6

Dear Adobe Community,
Recently, I have encountered a problem while trying to "put" files from my local view to the remote server using FTP. While some pages seem to upload successfully and can be seen when I open the internet browser to view my webpage, other pages seem to have content that is NOT being updated. When viewing the remote server folder, I can see that the page I have "put" looks great - it's updated and ready to go. But when I view that page in the browser, a different, older version appears.
While "putting" the pages, the 'Background File Activity' window pops up and shows that, in fact, all the files associated with the page are being successfully transferred.
I have downloaded the DW updates. I have deleted the browser cache. I'm stumped!
Are there any Dreamweaver wizards out there that can help point me in the right direction?

Thank you for your response. I took a look, and I am definitely putting to the Remote Server. The weird part about the problem, is that I am able to "put" some of the pages without any difficulty and they will show up in the internet browser right away. Right now, I have one page that simply will not show up correctly in the browser. When I am viewing the pages in my Remote Server, the page in question is the most updated version and looks correct. If it looks good on the Remote Server, why do you think it isn't showing up in the internet browser as it should?
Could this be some type of synchronizing issue? Earlier I changed the following settting... would you recommend changing it back?
Site Setup --- Server --- Advanced --- 'unchecked box' for 'maintain synchronization information'

I have a perplexing problem, in firefox the iframe in the spry tabbed panel doesn't work any ideas?

I have made a page with spry tabbed panels, i have embedded an iframe in the content section of the second tab, this works perfectly well with Google, IE, Safari, Opera etc but just doesnt work in Firefox.
If I make the tab panel containing the iframe the Default tab then it works, i just cant figure out why,

If not, make sure to run the validator here The W3C Markup Validation Service and clear out any problems. HTML errors, especially structural ones, will cause all kinds of display problems in various browsers/versions/platforms.

Perplexed as to what went wrong here

ok so im writing this prog for school and im all but finished with it xcept im running into one small problem.
i have 5 int objects each read individually by the program.
what i need to to is to ad them all together which seems like it should be simple right.
so i do it like this

public setTotal(int Total)
Total = intA+intB+intC+intD+intF;
all the int values are private as well
but for some reason it wont total.
am i doing something wrong here?
i tested each value with
ex:System.out.printline(intA);
etc..etc... to make sure it was reading the values set and it prints them out fine (so i know each int is holding its value)
any input would be greatly appreciated.

i have 5 int objectsint is a primitive type. You have 5 int variables. Not objects.

I have a perplexing issue regarding a huge discrepancy between perceived storage usage and what shows up in system profiler?

I am currently thinking about what my next laptop is going to be after my MacBook Pro from about 2009 finally gives out (still going strong!), and I am in between the 128GB and the 256GB MacBook Air models so I wanted to get an idea of how much space I was using right now. When I use the system profiler I get this result:
Yet when I use MacKeeper's Disk Usage Utility I get this result:
The biggest issue being, why is there almost 50GB of difference in Music alone? This computer has been through every OS since the one it came out with (think it was Snow Leopard), I have always used MacKeeper to keep everything in order and it's been running great ever since. But can somebody please explain where these discrepancies come from and how I can fix them?

Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.

You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

Create an instance of failure, perplexing problem? ? ?

I use the environment: oracle10g2.0.1 server version. Operating system is 32-bit xp2.
My database block size display is 8k, operating system block size display is 4k.
Computer is not networked. server can be installed successfully. But when I create an instance the error always appear below:
