So slow. Ram or version?

I am running iphoto 2.0 with over 7000 pics, and it runs so slow. if i delete an image it might take 45 minutes to unfreeze. I have 768 MB of ram.
The people at the apple store said i need to up grade to ilife 6.0 or get more ram. With the 768 MB i have will 6.0 run faster? Or do I also need more ram?

7000 photos is a lot for one iPhoto Library Folder. That in itself could make things slow.
1View and arrange your photos by film roll and close all the rolls except the one your are working with.
2Slide the zoom for the main window to the smallest size you can use.
3Quit other applications
4Check the free space on your hard drive. You need about 15% free for the system to use when necessary
These things will help speed up iPhoto.
Try these things before buying iLife 06 or more RAM.

  • Slow RAM-thieving Photoshop CC

I have already seen a few questions raised about this, but no answers as yet. I have just installed Adobe Photoshop CC and Adobe Bridge CC and the new Photoshop consumes almost all of my 12GB of RAM, slowing the entire system (current model iMac). I am faced with having to remove CC, revert back to CS5 and write-off the 12 month CC subscription I have paid for -- though hoping an answer has been found. I did note in one forum that Adobe implied we are imagining this problem. Terrific!

  • Slow RAM Preview in CC, any suggestions?

I am running my CC on a Windows 8.1 OS, with 24 GB RAM, an EVGA GeForce GTX 760 4GB graphics card, and i7 3570k Quad Core 3.4GHz processor. However, I am still experiencing an issue with struggling RAM preview. I've also altered the cuda supported cards in the Premiere file, so as to allow my GTX 760 access to the softwares, and still a slow rate of rendering speed. Therefore, I'm wondering if you would happen to know what the issue could possibly be, or if I should purchase new hardware or something. Any feedback would be appreciated.

  • Iam still using v 3.6.24, I have W XP and have 478Mb of RAM, which version should I update to?

Some websites now demand a more up-to-date browser, but as I have only 478Mb RAM I am wondering if v 8 will run slowly, I don't need an all-singing all-dancing browser, which version should I upgrade to?

for me stay in 3.6.24 :

    Minimum Hardware
Pentium 233 MHz (Recommended: Pentium 500 MHz or greater)

  • After Effects CC 2014.0.2 rendering slower than previous version with identical settings

Is this a known issue? Can't find confirmation just some mention of it.
I'm on an 27" iMac with 32GB Ram and SSD. Latest OSX. Latest After Effects.
I first noticed after accidentally opening a file in CC2014 when asked to supply a client a render. It takes almost 3 times longer to render a file. I've checked preferences on latest on and previous version of AE and everything seems identical. Am I going mad?
I guess I could stay on the previous version for a while but hardly ideal as I'm paying for access to the latest versions and need to move up eventually.
    Help much appreciated.
    Anthony

Yes everything is identical. I setup a file ready to render and opened it in each version and rendered. I did this with an old large project file and also a new test file with a very simple 2 minute loop of a square moving left to right.
Beginning to hope the upcoming update fixes it somehow though would prefer to fix and learn something from this...

  • Powerbook running slow--RAM filling

Hello, recently my comptuer has been running extremely slow while running many applications at once. I now leave Activity Monitor open at all times so I can see the RAM usage, and it seems like opening up the smallest application will make the RAM fill up. Why is it doing this? I have 1GB of RAM, I think that is more than enough to run a few applications at once. Especially considering the fact that this never happened before.
EDIT: It's not just my RAM, I just went to unstuff something after launching Bittorrent and the CPU meter is now at it's maximum. There is somethign wrong, my 1.5ghz processor should be able to handle such tasks.

    Edward,
Suitcase is not a good app to run, we have it on 3 G5's here in work and it is always crashing/slowing the system. Every night before we leave we have to force the G5's to shut down because Suitcase crashes the Shutdown procedure.
Install Linotype FontExplorer X, even though it's only a Beta it's still much more stable than Suitcase - and it's FREEWARE!

  • SLOWNESS & RAM?

    Hi all,
I have a mid 2012 MBP with 8gigs ram - lots of slowness recently. So I got this app = Memory Clean.app
    - often the app says I have 50 or less MB ram available
    - so I click clean memory and it may say 1 or 2 gigs free
    - but then a VERY short time later it's back to a few MB's free
Q: So what's the point of - clean memory? computer is still slow... - seems to dump ram when it's needed without app?
    - mechanical drive is ok and new (replacement)
How can I speed it up without buying new drives or more ram etc.?

    Post the EtreCheck output
    <https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6174>
Mac OS X will attempt to "ALL" your RAM.  Unused RAM is a waste of money.  A lot of the RAM will be used to cache file system data so that expensive disk I/O can be avoided (expensive in BOTH time it takes to access the slow disk and power it takes to spin the disk (where using power reduced the life of your battery)).
Generally speaking Mac cleaner, memory cleaner, anti-malware apps on a Mac cause way more problems they they solve and often time inflict more pain on the user they what they claim they are solving.
The EtreCheck will tell us (and You) what 3rd party additions you have on your system that maybe interfering with your performance.

  • QOSMIO F10: works slow -- RAM upgrade?

    Hi
    I have qosmio f10
My notebook generally works slow. What do you think about?I think that upgrage the ram from 512 to 1gb or 2gb.Do you know that what is the price of extra rams?
    thans all

    Hi
Well, its not easy to say why it works slowly.
Sometimes many processes which are running in the background of the OS can make the unit slowly or a big HDD with many files which is not defragmented.
But of course a low memory size could be also a problem.
As far as I know this unit support max 2 GB memory and you can upgrade this unit with follow modules:
    PC2700 256MB (PA3311U-1M25)
    PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
    PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)
    Bye

  • Possible answer to LR 2.6 & 2.7 Seeming to run slower than earlier versions

I just downloaded and unpgraded from LR 2.6 to 2.7 on a Windows Vista 64-bit machine.  Version 2.6 seemed to run a lot slower than 2.5.  When I read the LR2.7 readme file on the download page I noticed one of the known issues is that at least ver. 2.7 runs slower when there are lots of files in the recycle bin. after I upgraded I emptied the recycle bin (Of almost 3000 files), and yes indeed performance did improve - dramatically.  This also improved performance on LR 3 Beta 2.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I have tried each idea in the order suggested. Unfortunately I have not yet solved the problem.  In some circumstances, with certain paper profiles and no other color management in place, I get faulty prints but they have large areas of solid color in areas where there is a large amounts of color saturation in the original image. The faulty image below is printed to plain letter-sized paper ar Normal Quality. One clarification I wish to make is that my HP printer driver was not specifically a 64-bit driver, but rather 32-bit/64-bit driver compatable for Win 7.
I may try completely uninstalling LR before reinstalling, instead of a "repair-install" but I am still open to other suggestions.

  • Mac version 4 times slower than PC version of CS3

Just ran the same Comp in CS3 on both my winXP PC with a dual-core 2.6GHZ processor, 4GB RAM and on my doible dual-core 2.6Ghz on my Mac with OSX 10.5 and 9GB RAM both with Multiprocessor option turned on.
I had purged the memory before hand and by the time the PC had completed the 139 frames the Mac was still on frame 30!
I was using a 3D camera move through a particle system with an Adobe Illustrator CS3 file in it and motion blur on. I am amazed that the Mac with twice the processing power is slower!
ANy ideas why this might happen.

I don't think anyone intentionally spoils his products, least of all Adobe, who actually were one of the companies that made Macs so popular in the old days due to Photoshop... You should simply consider the state in which the Mac is:
a)Apple have failed in providing a stable implementation for OpenGL ever since OSX arrived. Only 10.5.3 finally added native support for more advanced features, but peopel still have to use their own code and implement workarounds to boost performance
b)The processor swing 3 years ago left everyone with having to adapt their code. In case of Adobe with a ton of complex products this meant a lot of extra, wasted work just for that.
c)Now, on the threshold of native 64bit apps on the Mac, Apple again forced people to adapt and spent valuable time by not supporting Carbon any longer.
As you see, it is actually more a matter of Apple giving folks a hard time to keep up. If you took the development time and money spent on those conversions, sure we would see a different set of features/ more features in some programs.
Anyway, regarding your original problem: I'm not aware of a standardized benchmarking test for AE, which is probably not possible at all, given how many different footage types, layers, 3D, disk cache, media cache and whatnot you would need to consider. If you are seeing similar loss of performance in CS4, then something is really askew. I suggest you at least try to play with the number of cores to use for rendering. It should make a noticeable difference.

  • Problem showing DATE data and slow history in version 3.0.02

    Hello:
I have 2 problems with this new version:
When I press "F8" the history works veryyyyyyyy slowwwwwww... ¿?
    Second problem:
    I have defined these preferences...
    NLS
    Date format: DD/MM/YYYY HH24:MI:SSXFF
    Hour Register format: DD/MM/YYYY HH24:MI:SSXFF
Time Zone format: DD/MM/YYYY HH24:MI:SSXFF TZR
When I set these preferences, the first SELECTs show the date field properly...
But suddenly it doesn't work!!! ¿?
I execute a SELECT like this...
    SELECT fecha from tabla where rownum<2;
    and I see
    '20/11/10'
Where is the DD/MM/YYYY HH24:MI:SSXFF format????
    Thanks

As said on multiple occasions, there are many History problems reported already, yet the developers stubbornly still don't want to revert to the old handling.
I am still puzzled why they even touched the old system, which over the versions was extensively used and approved.
As for the NLS problem, how does it reproduce? After how many executions? Can you post a script?
    Un saludo,
    K.

  • After effects slow ram preview hold for 4 seconds before starting

Hi I have upgraded from After effects CS5.5 to CC 2014 , and I notices that when I want to make Ram view by hitting 0 num pad key , it pauses for 3 or 4 seconds before it start caching , and it become really annoying if you want to ram preview every 1 min , I tried playing around with the Preferences /Memory/ Ram reserved for other apps , but no good .
That was not the case in CS 5.5 , is it was starting caching as soon as I hit the 0 key .
I am working on Mac pro workstation , quad core intel xieon 2x 3.2 Ghz Mac Os 10.7.5
    Thanks

I am guessing that you have MP rendering turned on in the preferences. Please turn it off and test again.

  • Buttons in a movieclip react too slow (AIR all versions - in Android: impossible to use)

    Hi to all,
I'm just correcting the title (or subject) of this post:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3438581#3438581
("adobe? seems there is a bug in buttons behaviour!! (not really air only)")
Adobe team, please give some feedback. Can't go on with Android app.
or maybe somebody knows a workaround?
(similar problems with buttons created with movieclips via actionscript.. project stalled)

to troubleshooting the bug (seems not to be just a bug; seems to be something worst at low level of AIR kernel at movieclips mechanism):
with an android device (I'm using Sambsung Galaxy Tab - 7" display resolution) go to Android Market, search for 'mc2labs' and select 'Mc2labs Realpad debug version'.
NB please note: 'DEBUG VERSION' only helps to debug:
    two standard "Enter" buttons:
the left one is on main timeline, the right one is on a movieclip (on main timeline). note the difference on the black board on the left:
mouse events for "on main timeline"  button works fine
mouse events for "on mc" button doest NOT work fine

  • Painfully slow ram preview in AECC 2014

I am having problems with ram preview in AECC 2014
I have a project where I am getting 2 secs of footage rendered in 12 secs in AECC 12
The same 2 secs of  footage on the same computer with the same settings in AECC 2014 is taking 2mins 21secs
    Anyone got any suggestions?

    Not without more info.
What format and codec is the footage?
Screenshots of your render settings in both CC and CC 2014 would help.
Check to see if ray-traced rendering turned on in your comp in CC 2014?
