So some moderator made my other thread read only

I am getting crappy DSL service after 8 years of being able to steadily get 1.3 Mbps on my 1.5 service.  Now I am lucky to get 0.8 Mbps and not get disconnected 10 times a day and have to off/on my modem.  Here is what all I have tried:
Called customer support 4 months ago and jumped thru all their hoops.  Restarted modem, removed/reinstalled cables, swapped ends of cables, changed out cables, virus scanned computer with mine, their, and then a different virus scanner of mine.  I'm now using Microsoft's virus protection and running Windows XP.  I also got a new modem to replace my 10 year old Westell, the new one is a Westell 7500, did not help switching modems.
I've used a Netgear router for years but to make sure it was not a problem I've connected my PC directly to the Westell 7500, no difference.  I've unplugged all the phones in the house so that only the modem was connected, rebooted everything, no help.  Yes, every phone has a filter.
Verizon customer service, from India it sounds like, always wants me to jump thru the same hoops on every call because all they know is to read from a script.  Today's call was pretty much my last straw with Verizon if I can't get some help.  They told me to call billing and request the 1.0 service because the 1.5 Mbps service that I've had at this location is not available at this location and that the slower service would solve my problems.  I posted my Transciever Statistics on the other thread, below is a ping test that I just ran.

Usually when they make threads read-only, it's because they've copied it to the private support area. Have you gotten any messages from the moderator that made the change? You should be able to reach your messages via the link next to the envelope icon on the upper right-hand side of the page.

  • Can I change some partitions of the partitioned table read-only?

I have a table partitioned by range( partitioned hourly).
I want to keep the history data online for query (the history data is rarely accessd). But in this way the table is too large. The performance may be a big problem. So some problems may be raised:
How can I change the aged partition read-only?
How to decrease the workload on this table and improve the performance?
    Oracle 10g (10.2.0.3)+Solaris 10

How can I change the aged partition read-only?In 10.2.x.x I think only tablespaces can be made read only.
In 11g you can place tables in read only mode, but I don't know about specific partitions.

  • Combine PDFs using Preview in Mountain Lion (other threads read)

I have reviewed several threads about combining PDFs in Mountain Lion.  I will ultimately learn Automator but for now, I have a relatively simple question:
    1) I open multiple PDFs in Preview, one window per PDF
    2) I drag thumbnail pages from documents 2 through n onto document 1 so that it makes one long document.  ie. one unbroken string of pages and not sections within a PDF
Question:  How do I save this combined document without deleting or affecting the first document?
Duplicate causes one of the uncombined documents to pop up with the filename highlighted.  I don't see how to give the combined document a new filename for saning
Rename gives me a file of the three combined documents but the first document disappears
Save overwrites the first document with the combined document
I must be missing something simple.  I recognize that the lack of "Save As" is a sensitive issue but ultimately, that's what I want to do:  Save the combined document with its own filename and have the individual documents intact.

    ncasey88 and Old Toad:
Thank you for your quick responses.  Unfortunately, with both methods, the first PDF gets updated.
e.g. Files are 1.pdf, 2.pdf, 3.pdf, each is one page long, and I open each in its own Preview window.  I drop thumbnails of 2.pdf and 3.pdf onto the thumbnail area of 1.pdf.  I export or print into a file called 123.pdf
Result:  1.pdf and 123.pdf have the same information (all three files).  2.pdf and 3.pdf are unchanged but 1.pdf is three pages long.

  • CRM Order - Item No at a Order Item becomes Read Only

    Hi All,
We are creating an Order (SAP GUI) and enter a few products. For some products the ITEM NO becomes read only.
We have 2 Item Category group (NORM, VOLL) and 2 Item Categories (TAN, ZTAN). For some products (NORM, TAN) or (NORM, ZTAN) or (VOLL, TAN) the Item no becomes Read Only.
We do not have Higher level items or Alternate Items.
Could you please let us know under what conditions would the Item No become read only.
    Thanks and Regards

    Hi,
you would have to pass the variant condition keys (and pricing factors - default is 1) to the pricing engine. I have never seen this part of the application myself and it think it is difficult to achieve this as this might be direct communication between the configurator and the pricer. The variant conditions are passed in a reference characteristic called "VKOND" to the order and then to the pricer.
Are you planning to use a configurable product or a non-configurable product for this task? If you use the later you can ensure the SAP configurator is not called and then just have to feed additional data into the pricing engine (e.g. via manual conditions or via user exits in pricing).

  • Folders on NAS read-only. Can't change

I have a buffalo linkstation pro duo NAS. It is formatted in XFS.
It seems that randomly some folders have been changed to read-only, when they were previously read-write. I have one folder that is stuck in a read-only state. The folder contains some files from my XP machine. I wrote these files from the mac to the nas.
I am trying to delete the folder and cannot. I shutdown the mac, and accessed the NAS though my Windows laptop, and it wont let me take ownership. Any ideas on how to fix?

I had the same issue and figured out a solution.
    1. Create a folder in your user profile on the mac to mount a network share to. (Example: /chris/mount)
    2. Mount the network share to that folder you just created using this command in Terminal: mount -t smbfs//guest@<BUFFALONAS>/<SHAREDFOLDER> mount (replace <BUFFALONAS> with the IP address or hostname of your buffalo and replace <SHAREDFOLDER> with the smb share on the buffalo)
    3. In Terminal, change into the now locally mounted network share. (Example: cd /chris/mount)
    4. Run the following command in Terminal: chmod -R 777 ./
**Note: You will get an access denied error on any file that was created by a PC but all the files with "broken" permissions created by a Mac will be fixed.**
Hope this helps someone out there. I searched for a solution for months before figuring this out.

  • Install on SDCard/USB stick, toggle read-only filesystem - possible?

This is something I thought about while installing Arch on an SD card earlier. You know these small switches on some SD cards that make them read-only, right?
Would it be possible to have a setup where Archlinux is installed on a rewritable storage device like an USB Stick or an SD card, where one mode of operation would be to use it like a regular, persisting Arch install (with writeable filesystem). The second mode would be to use it similar to a Live CD, not persisting any data on the storage device and using RAM instead (mounting the root filesystem as read-only).
Basically, you could boot into regular mode (perhaps by choosing a seperate entry in GRUB), change configurations, update packages, etc. Then you reboot into read-only mode and use it as a Live CD with any changes to the filesystem stored only in RAM. This could be combined with system encryption to provide a secure and portable Arch installation that can be kept up-to date and simply by rebooting, you have a protected, volatile environment similar to a Live CD.
Is something like that possible? Has it been done already?

Comment on the "why" for Flash Device....quiet operation, less power required, faster performance and reduced size.
Faster boot time is also possible with raid applied.
As previously stated, running all in ram doesn't provide any performance improvement if the system has at least 2GB of ram.  Thus the use of swap is not required with that much ram.
This principle also applies to Flash Devices which have algortithms controlling the writes across the entire card capacity such that larger capacity increases lifetime expectancy.
Copy- on- write is also proposed for flash devices which reduces the process steps for writing to flash.
In my experience with running-in-ram with CTKArch "live" system, I found not much to endorse using that mode.  A negative of good proportion is the copy-to-ram loading time , which cannot be avoided.
Basically, faster ram is the best approach for performance enhancement in all systems.
Thus, there are herein some reasons for using flash in an arch booting system whether "live" or conventional or raid based.
My raid0 bootable system was outlined in previous post and am using it now.  It is not a USB connected bus arrangement which inherently limits performance.
I find Compact Flash in UDMA or true IDE mode to provide good performance speed of 90mb/s read and 25mb/s write to be a fine alternative to hard drives.  In raid0 read speed is doubled.  Good reason for flash devices but not in usb mode.

  • Read Only ID Columns

    Hi,
I have several simple look up tables with two columns, ID and DESCRIPTION.
ID is a numeric primary key.
They have been put into their own groups with the Layout Style set to "table".
The ID attribute's "Updateable?" has been set to "When New".
My problem is that when I go to the pages that edit these tables, some of the ID columns
are editable while some of the ID columns are read-only. I want all of the ID columns
to be read-only (except for the new row).
The ID attribures look identical in the ADF BC Properties Editor for all of the tables.
Where else should I look for differences?
    Cheers,
    Patrick Cimolini

    Patrick,
Actually, the line should not be present in the View Object file. Only if it is cleared, the value from the Entity Object should be picked up. I have experimented a bit and I could reproduce one weird case.
Start by going to the Entity attribute and set it to 'Always'. Then go to the View attribute and set it to 'Always' as well. Now check the ViewObject xml file. The 'isUpdateable' attribute should NOT be there now! If it is, something weird is going on and I would close JDev, remove the attribute in notepad and launch JDev again.
In the next bit, take care you follow the steps in this exact order. Go to the View Object attribute, and set it to 'While New'. Go to the Entity Attribute and set it to 'Never'. Go back to the View Object attribute. It will now be set to 'Never' and you won't have the option to put it back to 'While New' or 'Always' (greyed out). All very nice and logical, but if you look at the View Object XML file, it still says 'isUpdateable="while_insert"'. This is indeed an inconsistency between the JDev GUI and the actual XML file. As JHeadstart uses the XML file, it will use the 'while_insert' instead of the 'Never' that both the Entity and ViewObject GUI are showing you.
However, this is the only problem I have found. Could you please make sure that if you set everything back to 'Always', if necessary remove that 'isUpdateable' attribute from the ViewObject XML file as I mentioned above, then only set the 'While New' at the Entity level, and make sure that the 'isUpdateable' property is NOT present at the ViewObject XML file, if everything works as expected when running the generator?
    Kind regards,
    Peter Ebell

  • Unable to save Word documents when accessing them directly from the site because the document never converts from a read-only even though the User chooses to enable editing

Issue has only popped up recently and cannot reproduce in a Test environment.  Unaware of any SharePoint changes, so hoping someone can point me in the correct direction.
Previously Word document did not have to be physically checked out, but rather the editing of the doc also checked out the doc in a document library. This is the way we want it to remain –
no manual check-out process. Now if a doc is edited without being checked-out, there is an issue with the process as the application thinks the doc is read-only (message received when trying to save the doc) even if enable editing is selected. The
following message appears when you try to save the document:
This message can appear if you have been editing a file that was opened as read-only. A file opened as read-only will have (Read-Only) appended to the file name as it appears in the title bar of Word. You can still save the document, but you must
save it by using a different file name. If you use Windows Explorer to change the read-only properties of the file, while the file is open in Word, it will not enable Word to save the file. Word must open a non-read-only version of the file in order to save
it by using its original file name. If you have not made any changes to the file, you can close it, and then use the following steps to make the file writeable. 1. Click the File tab, and then click Open. 2. Browse to the file and right-click it. 3. Click
Properties, and then clear the Read-Only check box. 4. Reopen the file. If you have made changes to a read-only file, you can save it, and then use the following steps to give the modified file the original file name. 1. Click the File tab, and then click
Save As. 2. Enter a different file name, and then click Save. 3. NOTE: Adding "Rev1", or "Mod1" to the original file name may help you to remember it later. 4. Click the File tab, and then click Close. 5. Open Windows Explorer. 6. Browse
to the original read-only file. 7. Rename the read-only file. 8. Browse to the new file. 9. Rename the new file to the name of the original file. Do not delete the read-only file until after you have determined you no longer need it.
Previously, when check-out was optional, a file was checked out automatically when someone opened it for editing, unless it was already checked out. The editing commands notified the User that the file is being/was checked out.  The real issue is the
word doc can no longer be saved as the application still believes the doc is read-only.

    Hi,
According to your description, you give the domain admin full control over files on the old file server, but you cannot move the files to the new file server. After pull the files from the old to the new file server, the domain admin can only read the files
    on the new file server.
How did you move the files from the old file server to the new file server? Did you setup replication between the two file server or use robocopy?
Please check the files permissions on the new file server to see if the permissions are changed, then share the folder on the new file server to everyone to see the result.

  • AW attach in Read-only Mode in AWM

    Hi,
How can I attach an AW in Read-only mode in AWM, so that multiple developers can open an AW but only one can modify it?
    Regards, Anirban

See the documentation for the AW ATTACH command.
    >
    RW
Specifies that the workspace is attached in read/write access mode. Only one user can have an analytic workspace open in read/write at a time. The user has to commit either all or none of the changes made to the workspace.
An analytic workspace that is attached read/write non-exclusive can be accessed simultaneously by several sessions. The read/write non-exclusive attach mode is only compatible with the read-only access mode. A user can attach an analytic workspace in read/write mode when other users have the workspace attached in read-only mode; however, a user cannot attach an analytic workspace in read/write mode when another user has it attached in any other mode. Likewise, a user cannot attach an analytic workspace in any mode other than read-only when another user has it attached in read/write non-exclusive mode. When you attach an analytic workspace with read/write access, Oracle OLAP executes a program called PERMIT_WRITE, when it finds one in the workspace.

i have an ipod classic which at some point it was changed to " READ ONLY ". now my classic wont open  and windows says i need to format it though after trying many time only to have windows tell me that its unable to format. when i try to open ipod classic , whatever page im on
    , be it : computers,
"tunes or any other window it freezes my ipod and will not un-freeze until i reboot my computer so at the moment all i have is a 160GB IPOD CLASSIC THAT DOES NOTHING. HOW CAN THIS B TAKEN OFF SO THAT I CAN ONCE AGAIN HAVE MY IPOD BACK.

It looks like MANY people have various problems with iPod Classic 160GB models on Windows 8.1, while they work just fine on other computers. I suspect crappy Apple drivers that don't work correctly on Windows 8.1. I have a Classic 160GB iPod and you would think that it is corrupted/damaged/about to die on the Windows 8.1 computer, but works just fine on everything else.

It's not a question of what Dreamweaver 8 (or any other
    edition of
Dreamweaver) can and cannot do. This may help:

    Hi,
I am trying to change some of the fields attributes to READ-ONLY under the 'account assignment' tab/category when user try to create Goods Receipt and go in detail to see the account assignment. currently user has an option to change it. is it possible to change the attribute through config(SPRO)?

    Hy,
You cannot use the Variants for all the screens in the EBP.
The only screens where it is available are:
    Screen Variants:
Item data overview in an invoice without purchase order reference: BBP_IV_NON_PO
Item data overview in the invoice with purchase order reference: BBP_IV
Item data overview in the confirmation: BBP_CF
Item data overview in the confirmation for time recording: BBP_CF_TIMEREC
    Item data overview in the purchase order:  BBP_PO;
Item data overview for contracts: BBP_CTR_ITEMLIST
Item data overview for selection of contracts: BBP_CTR_ITEM_SELLIST
Search results for entering an invoice and/or confirmation: BBP_SEARCH_PO
Search results for entering a purchase order: BBP_SEARCH_SC
Search results for displaying/processing an invoice: BBP_CHANGE_IV
    Search results for displaying/processing a confirmation: BBP_CHANGE_CF
    Search results for entering/displaying/processing/status of a shopping cart: BBP_SC;
    Worklist for Sourcing: BBP_SOCO_WL
    Work area in Sourcing: BBP_SOCO_GA
For changes on the Acc.Assignement screens, you'll have to either change the templates (be carful, templates related to acct. assgnt. are duplicated for each transaction) or the ABAP screens.
