So syncing new events on iCal is not automatic?

I have 2 computers and an iPhone and it is very important that I keep my calendars and event alarms in sync but this has been a problem since "upgrading" to the new Calendar beta. Now, when I add an event on, say, my home iMac (running Snow Leopard) and either immediately close iCal or if I add it through Mail, the event does not show up on my MacBook, iPhone, or Mobileme unless I go back to the iMac and actually open iCal. Also, let's say I make a change to an event on my iPhone, the change is not reflected in iCal on either computer until I open iCal (imagine the consequences if I happen to not have my phone with me).
I have searched the forum to see if there's a solution to this problem besides keeping iCal at home open all the time, but I haven't found an answer.
Adding a work an event on my home computer's calendar only to have it stay there isn't much use. This is one of the main reasons I'm paying for MobileMe!
I'd really appreciate any suggestions because this problem is just about to drive me nuts. Thanks.

I have been having the same problem; when adding events from mail, they will show up in my iCal Events widget, but will not sync to the phone until I launch iCal. This has only started happening fairly recently, but I can't pinpoint exactly when. I have tried having the calendar set to sync via push and every minute, neither of which has any effect.
This is very aggravating, especially when I have added a new event with specific details that, like Dr. Jones Sr., I have written down so I wouldn't have to remember, and then am out with only my phone which does not have the info.

I have the same issue with my New Ipad. My iPhone 4S updates to iCloud and I can even see the documents in
settings-> iCloud -> Storage and backup -> manage storage -> Pages on my ipad, but pages won't sync with the documents on iCloud.
I have done everything also, deleted all iWork apps, restored ipad, renamed documents on iCloud, deleted documents and uploaded to iCloud and nothing works. Use iCloud is on in all app settings and documents and data is on in iCloud settings.
Have not yet found any solution, please help, it is very frustrating to have to copy to Dropbox every time I make changes...

Touch ignores new events in ical and iTunes doesn't show new calendars

i just set my Touch (2nd gen 2.1.1) back to the factory settings with a freshly created itunes lib.
My problem was (and still is) that i couldn't sync new events from my macbook to the touch.
i also created a new calendar to ical and checked if naming could be the reason. but the new calendar doesn't show up in the info part of itunes. even if i select replace all calendars on my ipod.

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

Unable to add new event in iCal, Lion 10.7.1

Hi,
On Lion 10.7.1, I can't seem to add new events to iCal.
I have tried the following:
1. 2-finger click on a day in the month-view. This pops out the menu and I can click on 'New Event', but after that, nothing happens.
2. Clicking on the '+' button at the top. This pops out the 'Create Quick Event' window. After typing in a new event and hitting return, nothing happens.
I can create a new event in the 'Day' and 'Week' view though.
iCal was working fine for me last week, but it seems to be broken since yesterday. I'm not sure if it stopped working after the 10.7.1 update.

Deleting New Event in iCal on iPad

Unwittingly, I have "entered" a "New Event" in iCal on my iPad 2. I would like to delete it but haven't been able to do so.
Does anyone know how I can delete the "New Event"?
I would appreciate your help and suggestions.

1. Click on an event.
2. A bar with a dot on then let side, the name of the evet, and a hardly visible small edit button on the right side will appear.
3. Click the edit button: the edit window will open.
4. Scroll down to the large red Delete Event button.
5. Click the Delete button.
New iPad, latest IOS. I do not see the Trash icon mentioned in the other post. Maybe an earlier IOS.

When I try to add a new event to iCal a dialog says "you can't add or change events in the Birthday Calendar". How do I cancel this?

You can not add events to the birthday's calendar. To add birthday's to the birthday calendar you need to add the birthday to a contact in the Contacts app.
You can set your default calendar here:
iCal > Preferences > General > Default Calendar and chose the calendar you want to default to.

Creating new event in iCal from BBEdit data window. Calendar number fails.

When I try to create a new event in iCal I am getting the error "The variable theCalendarNumber is not defined." even though theCalendarNumber is supposed to be set in the preceding line. Does this have anything to do with embedding the tell application "iCal" within the tell application "BBEdit 6.5" loop?
Before this error I was getting a NSContainerSpecifierError error. I think that was because I was trying to specify the calendar as a string instead of a number as required by Panther OS.

You have a couple of issues here.
First, the line:
set theCalendarNumber to (first calendar whose title is theChoice)
However, theChoice is defined at:
set theChoice to (choose from list iCalendars with prompt "Choose the Calendar to use" OK button name "Choose" without multiple selections allowed and empty selection allowed)
Since you're allowing multiple selections, theChoice will be a list.
You can't get 'first calendar whose title is' a list. You will need to either permit single selections only, or extract the calendar name from the selected items (maybe iterating through them if you want to add the event to multiple calendars).
Once you address that, the line:
set theEvent to make new event at end of events of theCalendarNumber...
also won't work because theCalendarNumber will be the name of a calendar, so this command tries to set the event to the end of events of a string. Instead you need to ask for the named calendar, like:
set theEvent to make new event at end of events of calendar theCalendarNumber
Then you should be set.

Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

Unable to create new events in iCal

I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS7, and now when I try to create a new event in iCal, nothing happens. I am able to tap the "+" and enter the event information, but when I tap "Done", no new event appears in the calendar.
If I, instead, create the event in the Calendar on my PC, the phone syncs with Outlook, and the event appears on the phone's iCal app.
Why am I suddenly unable to create new events on my phone in iOS7, and how can I fix this issue?

Why do new events in iCal automatically have reminders?

When I create a new event in iCal (whether on my MacBook, or on my iPad, or on my iPhone), iCal automatically adds 2 reminders. I have checked my iCal preferences, and "Add a default alert to all new timed events" is unchecked. It's an annoying little quirk.
This happened prior to upgrading to the new IOSes, and I was hoping it would disappear with the updates. However, it's not.
Can anyone please help me to fix this?

I found the answer from another forum. Changed the settings in Google Calendar. Bizarre.

SYNCING AN EVENT FROM iCAL to iPHONE

Sometimes when I enter a NEW EVENT in iCal and then perform a SYNC, it shows up on my iPhone as NEW EVENT. Literally. It doesn't list the details as they are typed in iCal unless I sync again. It literally says NEW EVENT. Sometimes it takes a couple of SYNCS or more to correct itself.

Can't add a new event to iCal on my iMac - but the event sync's to my iPad - is this a Lion problem? iCloud is on.

It is a possibility that you are adding new events to your "On My Mac" calendars.
"On My Mac" calendars will not sync with iCloud. After backing up the "On My Mac" calendars, and ensuring that all events are duplicated on your iCloud calendars you can delete any "On My Mac" calendars.

New events on Outlook 2010 not syncing with Iphone and Ipad

I have gone through the nonsensical uninstall/reinstall every 5 restars. This time my new events or contacts on Outlook do not show on iPhone or Ipad. There is also a new confirguration where the Outlook does not separate the iCloud calendar from Outlook calendar but lists them all, then iCloud as a separate box at the bottom. I've tried dragging to that box with no success. I make about 50 appointments and reminders to my calendar each week and use all devices whether in the office or out. How dare Apple not fix this known issue.

I just looked at topic called "Outlook 2010 - Outlook does not sync with iPhone / iTunes and used the fix suggested in that string of posts. It appears to have worked!!! My happy camper.
