So this is going to sounds stupid...

Is there another way to turn off your phone apart from using the lock button? The lock button on my phone decided to stop working so I want to know if there is another way to power down the device or if I have to just let the battery die? I work in camp so it will be a few weeks before I can take it in and I have to take a plane so I need to be able to turn it off...

No, this doesn't sound stupid!  It's a legitimate question.
Here's multiple alternative methods to power off:

    I know this is going to sound stupid but I can't seem to set up my email as an iCloud email account. I want to eliminate my aol account and transfer everything to iCloud with an iCloud email. How do I do this.

    If your Mac is running OS X 10.7.5 or higher, you first have to go to System Preferences>iCloud, sign in with your Apple ID to create your account, then check Mail.  This will automatically add an iCloud email account.
    To transfer your AOL mail, you need to drag and drop them into the same folder in the iCloud account.  If you have any folders in your AOL mail, you would need to create folders by the same name in the iCloud account, then open each folder, select all the mail in the folder and drag and drop them on the folder by the same name in your iCloud account.  (To create a folder in the iCloud account, click the "+" at the bottom of your folder list, choose Create Mailbox, choose iCloud as the location and give it a name.)

  • This is going to sound stupid, but how do I move the gnome3 dock?

    I would Like to use the one from gnome-shell-extension-dock, but I can't for the life of me move the original one or remove it for that matter.
    How do I go about doing this. This is the first time I've actually been able to get Gnome 3 and Gnome-shell working decently without breaking my themes (Apparently Adawaita uses the same general colors as the GTK2 theme it uses does, so I just copied the gtk3.0 and metacity-1 folders from said theme into all my Murrina themes and now everything looks good)
    Also, sometimes Gnome-shell crashes just out of the blue, or at least the window manager does. I can't figure out why it does this, but I suspect it might be because compiz-fusion-icon keeps loading.
    EDIT: I seem to have fixed the sound issues with my headphones by switching it over to analog stereo duplex when I'm running shell.

    Don't believe so. You can always install Docky or Avant Window Navigator if you like. I liked Gnome3 for a while but got sick of repeatedly moving my mouse up to the corner to make stuff I commonly use visible. I hated the way workspaces are done too. Not sure why they made these decisions but for better or worse they are here. I've moved on to KDE and Openbox where I actually have some control over things.
    I liked Gnome3 for a while, I have to admit. In the end I was just too restricted. Lot's of extensions for it coming out though which might help with this stuff. You could just get rid of gnome-shell though and use another dock of your choice.
    That's the problem though, I think I'm actually beginning to like old g-shell. Funny as I used to bash the you know what out of it, but once you find some workarounds and make stuff look good, it's not all that bad.
    Oh and I found out what kept crashing Gnome Shell..it was when I was switching themes, but only with certain ones. Deleted those and now it works.
    ....And now my dock seems to display correctly again -.- . Seems it only happens when I boot gnome-shell initially.
    It's probably going to be one of those odd quirks I'll just have to live with until Gnome-shell is patched or updated to allow resizing and moving.

  • This is going to sound stupid but HELLLPPP ME. :(

    so, my computer got that trojan virus and my mother decided to pretty much refresh my whole computer by using some anti-virus download which deleted everything that the computer did not come with, this included my itunes and all the music that was in my library, i still have all of the songs on my ipod, i've downloaded itunes again, but i dont know how to get all my music from my ipod to the itunes i've recently downloaded, i dont want to lose the songs i've purchased and i dont want to have to take each cd that i own and re-import the songs to itunes...IM FREAKING OUT HERE it took me months to get all my music added to my ipod...and im in DIRE need of help. pleasseeee??? does anyone know what i can do???

    1). Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
    2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
    There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
    4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
    5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • This is going to sound really ridiculous but, what is an "interactive" PDF?  I received a PDF from an organization which stated it was furnishing an "interactive PDF" but on which I am not even able to highlight or make comments.

    This is going to sound really ridiculous but, what is an "interactive" PDF?
    I received a PDF from an organization which stated it was furnishing an "interactive PDF" but on which I am not even able to highlight or make comments.

    Well turned out it is secured, but if you can't even highlight points, can you still refer to it as "interactive?"
    The problem was that they furnished both a book and a PDF file which are identical and I am unable to understand the point. I would refer to the PDF as  "flat" or "static" rather than "interactive."   It seems redundant and I find the description misleading.  It's also remarkably wasteful.
    (Also, visualize the levels of efficiency between 1) scrolling through a PDF, highlighting certain points, and keyboarding comments vs 2) turning pages in a book, picking up a pen to highlight areas, and getting out the pen and paper to handwrite comments.)
    Thanks so much for taking the time.

    This is going to sound dumb but I just got a call from someone claiming to be with Microsoft Windows tech dept. Apparently something malicious attacking my computer.  I hung up because Mac doesn't use Microsoft Window Operating System - right?  I have Mac OS X.  I have loaded Microsoft Office 2011.  Can that allow something malicious or is this guy a scammer and I was right to hang up???

    Actually you can install Windows on your MBP via Bootcamp.
    You should have kept the individual on the phone for as long as you can tolerate.  The time he wastes with you is time he cannot spend scamming an innocent victim.
    You can always politely ask the caller to hold while you 'answer the front door' or the like and just set down the phone and go about your business.  The caller will eventually hang up.
    But your analysis was 100% correct.
    Ciao.

  • This is going to sound silly *REAL THREAD*

    First off, I work on a military base. I have been looking into an iPhone for a while, but I have 1 problem with it. It has a camera. We are not allowed to have camera phones on this property.
    So, has anyone ever removed a camera from an iPhone? If so, how hard is it?
    Message was edited by: Goobalicious

    well I will say that sending it in to have the camera removed will probably void your support for the product.....
    but im pretty sure that smashing the camera would do the same thing.
    The iphone is like any other device it can have its problems. It can break completely to the point you have to get a replacement It can freeze up does it happen to everyone "no" but can it happen sure... so basically with you doing something like this your going to rely on the company your sending into for support on it....
    Something you might wanna do is call apple support and find out if they would cover you for this specific situation... I don't see why they would want to limit there customers over something like this which is required for you to do.
    If I had the choice I personally would rather find an alternative ... that comes with exactly what I need it to be.
    This may not be your case but just my opinion =)

  • This Is Going To Sound Kind Of Stupid ..... Epson Scanner Problems ??

    I jgot frustrated when I could no longer use my Epson Perfection 1200 Scanner after upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.3.1 ... I tried everything, copying files from Time Machine Backups, to downloading all lkinds of silly software from Epson's Website. I did as they instructed, and it failed miserably. I downloaded the Printer Update from Apples website, the instructions showed my model's drivers were included. When I went loolking after the Installl, if they were installed, I sure would like to know where. I was seriously thinking I was going to have to cave in and just fork out more money for more harware throwing out what used to be a perfectly good piece of computer equipment for my needs.
    I finally went thru the tons and tons of computer software install discs I have for all of the equipment I've bought over the years, making a complete disaster area all along one side of my home office. I came across the CD Installer for my Epson CX4200 All In One Printer/Fax/Scanner.
    It was for version OSX 10.2 & 10.3 ..... I figured I had nothing to lose so I installed it. With this
    Installation comes an application called PhotoImpression which I checked off toi Install as well.
    Well, to my wonderous delight, It worked! If I open up PhotoImpressions when I want to scan, It has a feature that allows you to choose where you want to :"Grab" your photo, document or whatever from, giving me the option to either choose the CX4200 Scanner, Or the Perfection 1200 Scanner.
    Oh Joy Oh Joy .... If you have any old Installation Disks hanging around, you just might wan't to give it a try.
    Steve

    Hmm, well that's a non-sequitar.
    You are aware that PhotoImpressions is obsolete? It is not a universal binary and requires using Rosetta to run. Maybe you should consider finding a suitable replacement for it. I'm not even sure how old the product is, and i doubt Epson still bundles it with its scanners.
    As I suggested before you might consider using VueScan as a replacement for the scanning application. There are plenty of good image editors that are freeware - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
    You're not running 10.3 anymore.

  • Java Swith Statement. This is going to sound very stupid! NOOB!

    Here is my code;
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    System.out.println("A = Andorra");
    System.out.println("B = Belgium");
    System.out.println("F = Finland");
    System.out.println("M = Malta");
    System.out.println("S = Slovenia");
    // Read the user input
    Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in);
    System.out.println("Choose a country from menu above:");
    int month = scan.nextInt();
    //Print the month
    switch (month) {
    case 1: System.out.println("You chose \"Andorra\"");break;
    case 2: System.out.println("You chose \"Belgium\"");break;
    case 3: System.out.println("You chose \"Finland\"");break;
    case 4: System.out.println("You chose \"Malta\"");break;
    case 5: System.out.println("You chose \"Slovenia\"");break;
    default: System.out.println("Invalid month.");break;}
    The output is;
    compile-single:
    run-single:
    A = Andorra
    B = Belgium
    F = Finland
    M = Malta
    S = Slovenia
    Choose a country from menu above:
    1
    You chose "Andorra"
    BUILD SUCCESSFUL (total time: 31 seconds)
    But I have to enter 1 for it to say Andorra when I really want the user to enter A for it to output Andorra and B for Belgium etc.
    Please help.

    OK I had a crack at it and got to the point;
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    char month = 'a';
    System.out.println("A = Andorra");
    System.out.println("B = Belgium");
    System.out.println("F = Finland");
    System.out.println("M = Malta");
    System.out.println("S = Slovenia");
    // Read the user input
    Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in);
    System.out.println("Choose a country from menu above:");
    String a = scan.nextLine();
    //Print the month
    switch (month) {
    case 'a': System.out.println("You chose \"Andorra\"");break;
    case 'b': System.out.println("You chose \"Belgium\"");break;
    case 'f': System.out.println("You chose \"Finland\"");break;
    case 'm': System.out.println("You chose \"Malta\"");break;
    case 's': System.out.println("You chose \"Slovenia\"");break;
    default: System.out.println("Invalid month.");break;}
    Where I get;
    run-single:
    A = Andorra
    B = Belgium
    F = Finland
    M = Malta
    S = Slovenia
    Choose a country from menu above:
    a
    You chose "Andorra"
    BUILD SUCCESSFUL (total time: 2 seconds)
    But if I type in another letter, e.g F for Finland I still get Andorra?? Please help if you can in stupid mans terms, Thanx.

  • This is going to sound weird, but...

    My cheek has been making calls while I'm on the phone talking to someone else! Several times I'll be talking and all of a sudden I hear the dial tone, I look at the phone to see that I'm suddently dialing someone from my address book and the other call is now on hold!
    I've tried not holding the phone so close to my ear but then I can't hear very well. I do have a bluetooth but only use that when I'm driving...anyone else have this problem? My cheek has even ended a call by accident!

    Thanks for the picture..I can see my sensor. It doesn't look like my case/skin is covering it, but I'm going to keep it skin free and test it out before I buy something else.

  • OK, this is going to sound strange to some and ring true to others!

    I think Ive got baby dribble in my iPhone4!  It now wont turn on, charge or anything.  All I have is a black screen .  Is there any way I can fix this or will it dry out itself if left?

    Since you've keep it on while the baby spit was working its way through it (electricity and baby spit don't mix) it has probably gotten under the screen and is shorting out the battery. Skip the rice, make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and bring $149+tax USD.
    If it happens again in the future, quickly turn the phone off, DO NOT connect it to power, wipe it off, put it in a baggie with raw rice and leave it for 4 - 5 days.

    I just got my grandparents to buy a Mac Mini, their first Apple computer. They had an ancient pc so they were still using dial-up. • This is going to sound strange ..

    When in the design screen and editing the properties of a JPanel it seems that the only spot i see to change the name of the panel is under model ??? and it is grayed out .. I must be missing something ... I would think under General-Id or something ... Can someone help me find my property ?

    Frank this is true for a "main" panel but a main pannel can include many inner panels and they are added in the design mode as jpanel1, 2, 3, 4 etc. In version 10.1.3.3 yo can modify the name assigned from the drag and drop of the pannel while you adjust other properties with out having to go back to the source screen to do it. Seems like we should be able to do the same thing in 11g ???
