So what is the verdict glossy or matte display.

The macbook pro now comes in glossy or matte.
Which is better? has anyone seen both stlyes side by side?
I saw a macbook and I like pure sharp contrast of glossy but it has so much glare, that I think it might be better to stick with matte.
Is this something apple is testing out or do they plan on making all there screens glossy in future?
Opinions?
Dell 8300 Windows XP

Matte. It is a matter of opinion of course, but I really dislike the glossy screen. I come from the PC world and tried a number of them in various lighting situations at home and at work and found the reflections and glare to be very distracting and straining on the eyes. The matte screen was a major concideration in my decision to make the move to a Mac. I have spent a fair bit of time with the Mac glossy screens in the store (though I did not take one of these home) and I don't feel that Apple did anything vastly different with theirs.
As a photographer I would disagree that they are better for displaying photographs or anything else. It is a constant battle with glare, reflection and incremental color shifts when the screen is viewed slightly off center. Again it is a matter of personal preference and opinion. My opinion is I will never have one until they have vastly improved or the choice of matte is no longer an option. You may find you like them though. I can't speak for anyone but myself.

  • What's the verdict on 10.8.4 for Server?

Just a simple question. What's the verdict on 10.8.4 wrt the effect on Server? I don't see many issues. Is everybody waiting?

It has its quirks - as you'd expect from anything so monstrously complex. But it does a really good job of hiding the underlying complexity. PROVIDING your DNS, Reverse DNS, and CA-signed SSL Cert are consistent and you are ABSOLUTELY happy that they are so before you begin.
It uses much of the same open source technology as many Linux Servers: Apache2; Postfix; Dovecot; amavis-new etc. so if you have experience with these, and can bear to keep your hands off the config files as long as possible, you'll be we'll impressed. Add in Kerberos and LDAP with OS X Server's Open Directory implementation and you'll regain the will to live again if you've experienced setting these up and maintaining them in the past.
Best experience for SSL Certs for me here in the UK has been GoDaddy (we have one cert with 5 names for https sites and mail server URI) and renewing it and changing names several times a year - for free - has been well worth the money the Certs costs.

  • Glossy or matte display?

So just how much more reflective is the glossy display?
It seems like it's going to hard to judge this without getting a machine and putting into the environment that you usually use it in?
    In experience so far?

    Taken from the online store:
"Choose the glossy widescreen display to make your graphics, photos, and videos appear with richer color and deeper blacks - great for watching DVD movies. If you prefer a display with anti-glare coating for a matte rather than glossy viewing experience, choose the standard widescreen display."
So basically you guys are right in saying that the standard display will have less glare than the newer glossy display.
I guess its a compromise between the two, you either work indoors with dim lighting and enjoy "richer" colour or in normal lighting conditions with no glare.

  • What is the best method to refresh display content (possibly push refresh)?

We are using Coldfusion 9.0, and our issue is simple.  We were asked to make a few display screens to put up a schedule of events.  So we created a quick backend HTML publisher and made the client refresh every 30 seconds using meta refresh that displays the screen that is published.  Works wonderful.  A change is made, the screens update quickly in 30 seconds or less.
Over the weekend we had an update push out to the server that openend up a larger issue.  The update shut down the webserver temporarily and that caused the display to go to the standard site cannot be reached (diagnose connection, etc).  At that point the refresh is killed, the display screens are dead in the water until someone hits f-5.  That made us think that everytime we have anykind of blip, the screens will have to be touched.  This is a small project, we wanted something simple and we got it.  I'm concerned now we just created a techsupport monitoring situation unintentionally.
So that brings me to the real question.  What is the best practice to do this?  After doing a google search there seems to be all kinds of directions to go in.  I don't want a complex solution because the decision to not outsource was based on how quick of a project this was.  I am hoping to get some guidance on how to make a simple push of HTML to a screen in a Coldfusion environment.
Thanks in advance for any help offered.

If that was implied, I did not mean for that to be.  The sentence before explains that you are at the diagnose internet connection screen.  At that point, refresh no longer occurs, the content is not even on the screen to be cached.  Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Ah, I see. Sounds to me like something for websockets. ColdFusion 10 implements websockets. Earlier versions of ColdFusion may use Nathan Mische's websocket gateway.

  • What defines the No. of days history displayed in the Account Overview?.

At present we only have 30 days of history being displayed within the Account overview views whereas we would like to see/display more. Is this possible?.
    Jason

As far as I know -> this is customizing.
    Have a look at:
Specify Display Options for Business Transactions
In this activity you establish for which period the business transactions in applications such as Accounts and Contacts should be displayed.
You can create settings for the following:
    u2022     Interaction History
    u2022     Activities
    u2022     Opportunities
    u2022     Quotations
    u2022     Sales Agreements
    u2022     Sales Orders
    u2022     Leads
In this way you can display the business transactions within different periods, for example, all activities for the previous or the following week.
In the case of the interaction history, the period refers to the posting date, in the case of activities to the start and end date, and in the case of opportunities to the start and closing date.
You can make the settings in such a way that they are specific to certain business roles, or valid across different roles. They are always valid for all applications (for example, Accounts and Contacts).
    Activities
    1. Choose New Entries and use the input help to enter the necessary data for the area and period.
    2. Save the data.
    Note
If you select Last month as the period, all the business transactions from the last calendar month are displayed, and not the transactions of the last month from the current date.
This means that if you have selected Last month as the period, and display the transactions in the system in the month of May, the transactions from the month of April are shown

  • OK, What's the verdict on 7.3.2 firmware?

    Hi all,
After perusing through many posts here about the horrors some have found with the 7.3.2 firmware update, I've been hesitant to update my set up.
Is there anyone here that did the update and is satisfied?
What benefits did the update offer?
    Also,
I have a new AEBSn that I just got to replace my old round g model, and I've been unsuccessful in hooking my old AXg back up to stream music to my stereo.
If I do succeed in using the old AXg up, will it reduce the performance of my new AEBSn?
    Blumer

I haven't had issues with the software or the firmware updaters.
The second question, yes B/G devices can slow performance of N devices. Then again it all depends upon how you set up your network.

  • Firmware 1.1 - What is the verdict - does it fix the buzzing noise?

I've been waiting to hear if Apple has resolved the issue of the buzzing noise with the 2nd Gen Nano. Those of you who have experienced this issue - has the new firmware resolved the problem for you?
I'm not sure whether now is the time to buy or not? I'm interested in the 8GB or 4GB models if that makes a difference however, from what I've read the issue has surfaced among all capacities.

I have said this a couple of times and I say it again...apparently I must be very luck because I did not experience this buzz on the 4gb I had briefly, the 8gb I currently have or the 2 that I purchased for birthday gifts to others. Because so many people seem to have been having this problem I wanted to make sure I didn't buy anyone buzzing gifts so I checked them both out. And apparently, no one that has the issue (solved at this point or not) have been able to get a real answer as to just what the problem is. I think this is also one reason why I don't really like to order my ipods...if there is an issue you can't just take it back to the point of purchase and get a replacement that same day (unless the Apple stores allow that...the closest one to me is about 100 miles away so I wouldn't know!).
Hope something happens soon for you!

  • What is the verdict for the Blacberry iBooster

    Hi all,
I have been reading about a cell phone booster for balckberry curve , can somebody tell me how effective it is? i am a road warrior and go in and out of bad signal all the time, i want something that will amplify my cell phone signal and higher bandwidth for data connectivity. Every product out their seems to have a mixed reaction..

I read Cnet's review and a review from everythingicafe.com. I think it's worth giving a try. I heard that it really does what it's supposed to do - increase your signal inside your car especially when you pass through 'dead spots'. From all of the reviews that I've read, there's only one pertinent negative thing about iBooster - when turned into speakerphone it gets muffled and sometimes the person from the other line won't be able to hear the caller clearly. But I think that it's not a big of a deal since it can do what I need it to do - avoid dropped calls when I'm on the road! Anyway, I am thinking of pre-ordering one. Will let you know about it!

  • What is the verdict

    On the new Euphonix controllers..

I got the MC Mix just a little while ago and I would have to say I'm impressed now that they've released a few more software updates. I bought it the first day they were released in the UK and it was buggy as **** but to be fair to Euphonix they have been releasing new versions every couple of weeks which is a lot more than I can say about some other manufacturers.
Since I've been ******* after a control surface for a while and have had a play with it and a demo from the Euphonix guys I was sold. It is so much slicker, smaller and faster than the Mackie. Now that EuCon has bedded in a bit it's sweet.
The MC Mix is very responsive and it has already improved my work flow. I'm still in a writing phase at the moment so I've only fully mixed 1 track with it but I do use it all the time and it speeds things up.
I love being able to make assignments to the faders. I put the active track on the left most fader so that what ever track I select or am playing it's always there. Also the Master is always on the right.
Ableton Live also works with the Mackie Control protocol. There isn't as much control and you currently can only see the meters on 1st channel. It's not that much of an issue for me as I use Live for performances and don't plan on trucking my mix about the whole time.

  • What is the verdict? (E2 bluetooth)

Is the Tungsten E2 capable of bluetooth syncing?  I've read both types of arguments.   (Some say that it only capable with a bluetooth 'card' that Palm used to sell.   Some say that bluetooth is available as is.  (After all, it does have a 'Bluetooth' app on the unit itself, even after hard reset.

  • What's the verdict on those "bumpers?"

Many of you might remember I started the post last year about the inside of the black bumper (that was the only color I had) scratching/marking up the stainless steel on my iPhone 4! I was attacked immediately and was told I was making it up and then finally others started coming to my defense admitting "YES...it's happening to my phone too!"
I left iPhone and have now come back with a brand spankin new iPhone 4 32GB...the phone is flaweless and has not a mark on it anywhere.
So...I still really like the bumper idea but I was curious if the problem is still persisting? I'm assuming it is as reviewers on Apple's website for the bumpers are also complaining about the very same issue...I can't believe this has STILL not been addressed by Apple!
Also, I'm rather fond of the white one because it gives that "Adidas" white and black look with the black of the iPhone...but I've heard stories that only the black bumper has the 'rubber grips' on the side of the bumper where as the other colors DO NOT and are all slippery.
    Verdicts?
    Thanks!

  • P6N SLI Plat & Bios 1.31, what's the verdict?

For you guys who've already flashed to bios 1.31 how's it running?  Has it corrected any issues that you had with previous bios versions?  Will your machine allow the keyboard to start on a cold boot?  I almost did it however I just couldn't make myself go through with it.

Ok after not being able to boot by hitting any key this morning I flashed my mb to 1.31.  Other than having to reset my bios settings I don't really see anything different about it.  I'm going to try to messing around with booting to see if the any key works again and I'll report back with my findings.
