So what's changed in the last 8 years?
Hello,
I used to be a Director developer, but due to a job change got away from Director in 2002. Now I'm thinking about getting back into it again.
What has changed with Director and Lingo in the last 8 years? If I dust off my memory banks, will I have a fairly easy time coming back up to speed, or is Director a completely different beast than it was in 2002?
Or should I just learn Flash and forget about Director altogether?

I've been using Director constantly for around 15 years. Prophesies of doom have been a recurrent feature in the last 5+ years, but its finally looking like they might be true. You would probably be better served by learning a different application, and Flash may be a good place to start - depending on your needs.

What has changed over the last weeks? ichat now does not work anymore
Hi,
I could use your help on the following issue I have:
I have been using iChat in a three-way ichat video session for some months now.
Setup: Intel iMac Tiger to initiate the conferencing. My mom and sister have both a macmini Tiger.
I had some issues when I started back then, but with the help of Ralph Jones' webpages I had it working perfectly.
Since two weeks I have the following issues:
When on a simple 2-way videochat with my mom I found that my video did NOT work anymore. I could see her, but my video froze so she could not see me. ( I couls see my video froze as well)
So to check I did use an apple test account, it worked just fine. Same from my mom's mac min (I use ARD to control her mac mini so I also can test remotely)
To test more, I then setup a threeway videochat (using two apple test accounts) and then my own video froze.
I did do all the apple software updates the last weeks and I also had skype installed(which does not show video now either) and one thing that could be an issue is iGlasses (which I have removed to no avail)
Any ideas where to look and what to do?

p.s. my powerbook now has leopard, but i do not use it to do iChatOK - This is starting to be a real pain. I can't video conference with anyone on AIM. iChat is supposed to work with Video AIM. I can instant message, but no video. Attached is the error log I continue to get.
Someone give me a hand and speak non-tech terms. Thanks in advance.

I used to be able to plug my mac book air to my tv via mini dvi to hdmi cable to tv and watch movies.
The audio no longer projects through the tv? in system preferences, sound, driver for sound output is not supported for my panasonic tv.
Just a couple weeks ago this was not a problem. I just plugged in my computer to the tv and it worked. what has changed?Have you tried a PRAM reset?

I changed my ID due to an email accessibility issue and I lost access to all my purchased music for the last few years. Been browsing through the support area and it seems like everyone is saying I will have to rebuy everything. Is this really true?
Apple has to be more user friendly than to let something like this happen, right?Did you change the ID, or did you create a new Apple ID? If you had simply changed the ID then what I suggested above should work as the ID itself is the same (even though the name of the ID - the address - has changed).
However if you created a new ID, logged in with that, and purchased items on it, then you have two separate IDs each with purchased associated with them. You say that you can't log in to the original account with the 'alternate' email - have you tried logging in with the original email address? It doesn't matter if it doesn't actually work to receive mail, as far as logging in is concerned it's just a text string. -
I am using iPhone 4 from the last one year and went dead and got it replaced by paying Rs.12500/- to Nyasa Sion Koliwada Mumbai Service Provider but now again after 38days the problem has started, what do i do? Is this is the quality & service we boost? On visiting the store we get only one reply you may write to Apple directely. we have the similar kind of problem with iPad which is being used by my wife Mr.Neelam Vij and paid Rs.16000/- to get it replaced within a year & 6months use. so in totality we have paid Rs.28500/- + Rs. 3000/- diagnostic charges.

My ipod 4g has been working fine for the last 2 years until now, it wont charge or connect to itunes what so ever. it will connect to the dock and play music but just wont charge on any charger, computer,cord,anything. its making me so frustrated i think it has somthing to do with the battery but im not sure because it still turns on. Im for sure that its the ipod and not the cord or outlet and charger. somone please help!!!!!! I tried everything besides opening it up.

I have MD033 Time Capsule and my iMac 2012 and MacBook Pro connected to it. Time Machine is set to backup @ this disk.
Every once in a while I get the message you see in attach on my machines. Approximately it means "Your backup disk identificator has changed since the last backup (Possible reason the disk was changed or erased since the last backup or someone is trying to make you make aт illegal backup not on your disk "
I get this message from time to time both on iMac and MacBook but not simulateoneously. Once in a week or a month.
I already reinstalled anew systems on my machines and even replaced time capsule itself to the same model (absolutely new, factory sealed), not even mentioning formatting its disk a dozen times and resetting TC.
Does someone have same problem? Russian support couldn't help and directs me to a repair. But I really doubt that BOTH MacBook Pro and iMac have EXACTLY the same problem with TC. Everything seems as it is a software problem with some of the programfrood42frood42 wrote:

Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
It may not show anything useful, but try this: Disconnect all external and network volumes. In the Finder invoke the menu option Go > Go to Folder. In the resulting field type "/Volumes" (without the quotes) and click "Go". In the resulting window you should only see entries for any internal volumes. If you see anything else, particularly an item with the same name as your Time Machine volume, you may have the problem described in this article:

You should trash any such things. The way to prevent this in the future is to prevent any process from running that would write to external volumes that aren't mounted. For Time Machine, turn it off, then when you want to back up, mount the Time Machine volume and choose "Back Up Now" from the Time Machine menu item. -

When trying to burn a CD, I realised that a LOT of my music (over 700 songs) are not on my laptop. I try and sync my iPod frequently however, a notice pops up saying 'erase and sync' or do nothing. Due to the fact the not all my music is not on my laptop I choose the option to do nothing. This has been going on for about 2 years now and I am struggling to find a solution.
All those new purchases that I have brought through my iPod in the last 2 years do not show up on my account settings nor as an option to download through iCloud. I understand this may be a simple fix, however I am not an expert in this field.

Please steer me in the right direction...Another option is to talk to the PLC using Modbus. Several versions of Modbus drivers are available online--or I could send you the ones I use.
The big thing to look at is exactly what you want to do in the end. If you are going to be able to use all the features of the DSC, by all means go for it. It will save you a lot of time.
If however, all you want is a remote front panel for the PLC, the DSC might be overkill. Only you can say.
Look at your entire application and where you can see your work going in the reasonable future.

All my family photos for the last 6 years are disappeared...

I am in complete chock fearing that all my family photos from the last 7 years are lost!
I have had ALL my family photos in the Adobe Stater Edition. Lately, I have been requested to register to get an unlock code every time I wanted to see photos or download new photos. I have tried to register but has been informed that the Adobe Starter Edition does not exist anymore. Yesterday, I therefore loaded all my photos into Picasa. I worked with the photos for about one hour - and then they suddently all disappeared. I seached for the photoes everywhere but they are completely gone... they are not on the hard disk at all. How is that possible? The photos were located on the hard disc in the "Picture folder" in a subfolder named "Adope". This subfolder was created automatically, years ago, when I started to load photo into the Adope Starter Edition. This subfolder is now empty - how is that possible? If I now start up the Adobe Starter Edition I get the usual "unlock message" - but behind the message I can see some of my photos but maybe this is just a "dead" bacground from my last attempt to get the unlock code?
What should I do - can anybody please help me? I am willing to upgrade to whatever type of Adobe product it requires to get the last 7 years of my family life back.
And yes... I did a full back-up of my photos app. 12 months ago... I looked for it yesterday in complete panic... it is gone... we had a burglary last summer... and yesterday I realized that it has been stolen.
ALL - ALL!! the photos of my two wonderful girls growing up... sitting in the Danish summer fields with floral wreaths on their head... I cannot believe it... I fell I have lost their childhood.

KirstenIn Picasa, look under to Tools menu, under Options, and at the bottom, it shows 'Save Imported Pictures in...'; look at where it is saving files, then look for a folder called Picasa at that location; could be that it moved all your files to there.

I cannot send iMessages anymore (have been able to do so for the last 3 years) and when I go Settings / Messages / the iMessage is OFF so when I turn it on it returns an error saying that iMessage cannot be initialized and that I should sign on with my Apple ID, which I did, but it still gives me the error.
Why is this happening and what can be done?It won't be anything to do with Acrobat.
It may well be something with whatever created the PDF, the settings in whatever made the PDF, etc.
Does this happen with every PDF that you do not recreate by printing to PDF (I presume from Acrobat)?
If this is limited to particular PDFs from a particular application and the creator of the PDF is not an Adobe product, what created them?
If it is just some PDFs, can you upload one to dropbox.com and provide a link to it?

In the process of reformatting my macbook pro, I saved everything but my keyword list. The keywords are with the images, but the total list I use under "Keywords" is not present. Is there a way to re-create all my keywords I've used over the last 6 years.
I accomplished what I needed last night. I remembered I had picked my favorite images from each year and put them in a "favorite" folder by year. These folders included 500 to 1200 images per year. I pulled up the folder for each year and highlighted all images and clicked on "Keywords" and all keywords used for all images were listed. I made those keywords persistent. It took me a while to realize I had to click on each keyword to make it persistent. After doing this for all years, I assume 95% of all keywords I have used over the many years were back in my list. I'm sure there is probably a more "technical" way to accomplish what I needed, but this seems to have worked. I also exported my list into a word document and is saved on my hard drive.
If I had not made folders with my favorite images for each year, I could not have used this method, so if you figure out a better way, I like to hear it. Thanks for your comments and willingness to help.
