So, What's new, SDK/API-wise for CS3? :-)

Well well, we now can see why maybe Brooce, and the rest of Adobe, has been a bit preoccupied these last coupla days. Can't wait to see the new apps!
Are you able to say anything about things to think about regarding SDK and API issues in the next release?

Regrettably, I can give no specifics (I've asked). But...there WILL be an updated SDK (I know, stop the presses). I'll say more when I can.

  • Is new Windows Mobile VM for Java ME in new SDK 3.0 for common users?

    Hi,
There are bunch of buggy VMs for WM Platform such as Esmertec JBED, Esmertec JBLEND, IBM J9 etc. They have lot of bugs and they don't support neccessary JSRs. Now I have read about Windows Mobile integration in new SDK 3.0 EA for Java ME - I undestand that there is a new VM for WM from Sun, is that right? But when I installed CAB version, it seams it is just for on-device debugging with connected Wireless Toolkit on PC. I can't launch midlets located in my WM device on it. Is there also VM for common users? So they could install virtual machine and then install their midlets? I think many developers and users would apreciate it. Or is it at least in plan to release such VM?

    Hello experts

  • What version of Vista is ideal for CS3/CS4?

    Hi all,
I'm thinking of moving to vista 64. What version of vista is the best for CS3 or CS4?

That sounds good for a business Laptop. Not sure it'll be all that useful for an editing workstation, especially if you have to pay more for it.
I'm also curious about the Enterprise edition. It's not listed on the Vista web site. There's Business and Ultimate, but no Enterprise.
I'm also not seeing any reason why Home Basic wouldn't actually be the best choice. The missing features aren't really needed for editing. And it has the advantage of being a lighter OS (and less expensive as well.)

  • What is new in RoboHelp 8 for Word ?

Did Adobe make any fixes or add any new stuff to the RH for Word with the version 8?
The only features they describe where RH for Word is mentioned on the Feature page was how to NOT install it by default.
Any one using this that used past versions see differences?

    Hi there
Colum is a teensy bit misleading in his reply. Certainly he is spot on with most of it, but the bit about WinHelp not being supported out of the box on Vista is technically incorrect.
What is technically correct is that 32 bit WinHelp is not directly supported. The first time you attempt to run a 32 bit WinHelp file you are prompted to download the 32 bit WinHelp display engine. But support out of the box is there for 16 bit WinHelp with no download needed.

What version are you using? Search highlighting in WebHelp was introduced in version 7.

The interface for RoboHelp HTML is easier to use than Word. The biggest hurdle many face is the loss of Tab Stops. You really would do yourself a favor if you tried RoboHelp HTML. It too is a very nice (and mature) product.

I'd say it depends greatly on how you structured your content. I never noticed that I had any sort of productivity loss as a result of switching. Sure, you have multiple documents with many topics in each document. In the RoboHelp HTML world each topic is an HTML page. But you knew that already. What I'm guessing may be news for you is that you may organize HTML pages into folders.

  • What's new in Photoshop CS6 for an enthusiastic amateur?

Is there anything in CS6 to interest an enthusiastic amateur or should I stay with my CS5.1?

Camera Raw's PV2012 process does some great things, such as managing the transitions into overexposure much more adeptly than its predecessors.  The new image analysis-based CA correction feature is great as well, though I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that was also available with PV2010 in the Camera Raw 6.7 release candidate for Photoshop CS5.  But the Camera Raw 7 control layout seems more intuitive and is a bit easier to use as a result.
In Photoshop proper, there appear to have been lots of JDIs ('just do its'), which are little improvements to existing functionality.
I've been experimenting with reprocessing photos I've processed before with Photoshop CS5, and so far I'm finding it incrementally easier to achieve better results, so the whole CS6 package does seem to come together rather nicely.  Though the look has changed some, it's NOT a matter of "OMG, I have to learn to do everything over again!"
Discovery of all the new little things is a lot of fun.

  • What's new in Camera Extras for WP 7.8?

I'm still waiting for the update, but on the Nokia page it mentions two new apps available for 7.8
Bluetooth Sharing - Which is new
Camera Extras - Which we have had for ages (In the UK at least).
So has camera extras changed once you have WP 7.8, does it add new features? Or is it just that it is then available to more regions?
Mainly just wanting the new start screen more than anything, but if there is anything else new in terms of apps that become available also please post them here.

    Rikesh,
I don't know why this data was difficult to post here but here goes another try.
*Some changes made in Version 8.7
    ~ VBA has been removed.*
~ VBA macro .plan files will no longer be possible to create .
~ Microsoft VB editor will no longer be installed with the software.
~ While opening .plan files containing existing macros, saving the .plan file will remove the existing
    macro functionality.
The ability to extend and control Primavera Risk Analysis through programmable components still exists.

  • What's new at Best Buy for August?

There are some amazing new products hitting the shelves of Best Buy this month. Here's a quick look at just a few of the cool products you can pick up right now.

I was put on the waitlist the wednesday after the release. While leaving they told me that they should be able to get me my phone within 2-3 weeks since I was 3rd on the list for the 32GB white (verizon). I am now on week 5 and still waiting for an email. I call them and pester them almost every week at least twice. I know this isnt going to speed things up but I am hopeful for anyhting. When I called last they told me that they hadnt even seen a white iphone 5 yet.
I am seriously hoping they call me in the next week. I will be upset and I will never use Best Buy again if they make us wait 2 months or longer. I know that Apple is the ones sending the phones but I know there is no way that after 5 weeks they dont have any phones. Its one of the larger stores in the area.
I am in Alexandria, VA is anyone cares. lol

  • What Are Some Good API Packages For Bar Code Scanners?

    Hi,
I am trying to write a program where a user can scan a bar code on a part and it's information will be matched on our database and retrieved from there. My main problem is finding a good package and method to take bar code scanner inputs on a desktop computer.
If any one could point me in the right direction, that would be very helpful.
    Thank you,
    ~B

There aren't any classes in the API to do that, but there are 3rd party libraries that can do that. Just google.

  • What are the best Plug-ins for CS3?

Im a pretty new CS3 user and also not an expert. Just an old retired guy who always liked Graphics
and Type programs like Quark, PhotoShop, Illustrator, TypeStyler, etc. Have had InDesign CS3 about
2 months and LOVE it! (I currently have Illustrator and PhotoShop CS3s.)
Knowing that I like graphics, are there any graphics type plug-ins that would be good for me to
    add to my InDesign CS3?
    Thank you.

Teacup Software's Patternmaker is a must have. The price is certainly

  • New Stream API and I/O streams - Any overlap?

I know the new Stream API is for processing object streams, often from collections.
But is this notion applicable to I/O streams, too?
It definitely seems compelling to use a functional approach to I/O streams that supports parallelism.
Let me know if my question doesn't make any sense to you
    Thanks
    Oliver

Indeed, there is some interplay between the APIs.
For example BufferedReader defines a lines() method that returns a (lazily-read) Stream<String>, each element being a line. The Files class in java.nio.file has a utility lines(Path path) method.
So assuming you have some class MyClass, some MyClassParser with a parse method, you can use idioms like
    void processFile(Path path) throws IOException {
        MyClassParser parser = ... ;
        try (Stream<String> lines = Files.lines(path)) {
            lines.map(parser::parse).forEach( myObject -> ...);
If you want to parallelize it, do
    lines.parallel().map(parser::parse)...
(assuming your parser.parse method can handle multiple threads)

  • Latest ACR version for CS3?

I have CS3 and ACRv4.6 which does not recognize Panasonic Lumix LX3 raw files.
What is the latest ACR version for CS3 and where can I download it from?
    Thanks.

Version 4.6 is the last update for Photoshop CS3. You will need to either download the free DNG Converter version 5.4 (or the beta 5.5) and convert the raw file to DNG or update to Photoshop CS4. If you go the DNG route, even versions of Camera Raw as far back as 2.4 in Photoshop CS will be able to read the converted files.

My requirement is to update 3 valuesets daily based on data coming to my staging table. What is the API used for this and how to map any API to our staging table? I am totally new to oracle and apps. Please help. Thanks!

    Hi,
You could use FND_FLEX_LOADER_APIS.UP_VALUE_SET_VALUE to upload them from staging table (I suppose you mean value set values...).
You can find a sample scripts if you google around.
What do you mean "how to map any API to our staging table" ?
You should do at least the following mapping (which column(s) in the staging table will provide these information):
    - the 3 value sets name which you're going to update/upload (I suppose these are existing value sets or which have been already created)
    - the value set values and  description
Try to start with something and if there is any issues the community could then help... but for the time being with the description of the problem you have provided, that's the best I can do...

  • What's new in AIR 2.7.1 SDK? (August 8th build)

I've noticed that AIR 2.7.1 SDK has just been released, updated the 8th of August:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/air/sdk/
    Being a version called 2.7.1, I suppose it's just a bugfix release.
Could someone post what's fixed in this release?
Fortunately, this time, they changed the version number, unlike last release (June 28th build), which was called AIR 2.7, just the same as the previous build (June 9th), which was called AIR 2.7 as well (it was pretty confusing).
A "what's new" file inside the SDK package would help, in future versions.
    Thanks for the frequent releases!

So it's mostly a security fix release, according to this:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb11-21.html
Ok, so that clears it up. Thank you!

  • What's new in AIR SDK 3.1.4880?

I just noticed that you silently updated the AIR SDK 3.1 to 3.1.4880.
Comparing the files you can see 23 files were updated in January 9th, 2012.
The original 3.1 SDK was from November 7th, 2011.
Why don't you include a "what's new" file inside the ZIP?
I suppose this new build is just a bugfix release, but you could still tell what's been fixed.
So, what's the difference between this newer 3.1 SDK (build 4880) and the older 3.1?
    Regards,
    OMA

    Hello Chris.
Thanks for your reply. As far as I know, AIR 3.1 SDK was first released in November 2011, wasn't it?
You can even see that all files inside the original 3.1 ZIP have a 7th of November date.
I already have the original 3.1 SDK for Windows, because I already downloaded it when it was released,
but BDindeblender is asking for the original 3.1 SDK for Mac, which unfortunately I don't have,
because I usually work in a Windows environment (except when I have to upload to Apple's App Store).
The version currently available at Adobe's SDK page is 3.1.0.4880 which was released in January, 2012
(until it gets replaced with the 3.2 SDK when the Release Candidate becomes Final)
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/air-sdk-download.html
The problem with this updated "4880" build is it has a bug that the original 3.1 didn't have, described here:
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3121219
I hope this bug isn't carried over to the new 3.2 SDK. I still haven't tried it, so I can't comment on that yet.
    Regards.
