So what's the consensus:  10.5.2 better than .1, or worse?

I know some have had problems, but overall is there a consensus as to whether .2 is an improvement or a step backwards?
Thanks!

For me it got worse after updating to OS X 10.5.2. I used the software update function. After updating, Logic an Garageband take very long time to open a project and performance is slightly worse.
Klaus,
The only thing I did different was downloading all of the updates (except iLife stuff) and installing manually. (Prokit45, 10.5.2, LeoGraphics update)
Seems like many are having the slowdown problem, I don't know what I did that would leave my system in good working order while most are having a slowdown problem. This machine uses an ethernet connection, not wireless. Also, I have Spotlight set to minimum usage, Dashboard disabled and -Journaling is off- on all of my drives.

what's the difference between Aurora and Beta?

The difference between Beta and Aurora is '''1'''. If you have to ask what Aurora is, you shouldn't use it.
The current release version is Firefox 6.0, the Beta is 7.0, Aurora is 8.0, and Nightly is 9.0.
When Firefox 7.0 is released in 4 weeks, 8.0 will be the Beta version, Aurora will be 9.0, and the cutting edge Nightly development version will be 10.0.

  • What is the windows server 2013 license version than I need to install workflow manager 1.0

what is the windows server 2013 license version than I need to install workflow manager 1.0?
enterprise or standard? can I install it on datacenter?
please provide me with the reference.
    thanks

Workflow Manager will work with either SharePoint Enterprise or Standard.  It doesn't work well with Foundations since it depends on User Profiles to pass user identity to the workflow.  And yes you can install it on Windows Server datacenter edition.
Here are the supported platforms for installation
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj193487(v=azure.10).aspx
This article talks about integration with SharePoint and states that Foundation is not supported, but it doesn't differentiate between the Server editions, so any edition will do.

  • Please help; What makes the 2nd Gen iPod Touch better then the 1st Gen?

I am thinking about buying an 8gb iPod Touch, should i save some dough and buy the 1st gen iPod Touch or pay a bit more and buy the 2nd gen?
Also, what makes the 2nd gen iPod Touch better then the 1st gen, what has been improved, changed, etc...?
    Thanks in advance.

I had the 1st gen touch since it first came out and just got the 2nd gen touch last month. I'll list a few things I like about the 2nd gen touch.
    1. internal speaker. makes a huge difference in my opinion.
    2. new design. alot nicer to hold in your hand than the 1st gen.
    3. seems faster overall than the 1st gen touch.
4.display no longer has blue tint. now has more of a yellow tint. makes pics and movies look a little better.
If you can afford the 2nd gen touch I would highly recommend it.

  • What is the main use of domain other than providing technical attributes

frends let me know what is the main use of domain other than providing technical attributes

    hi RajaReddy,
    Domains are used to
    <b><u>1. specify fixed value ranges.</u></b>
For eg: <b>status type Char 1</b>, can have fixed values stored in the domain level
    as '1' - Active '2' - retired '3' - terminated '4'- temporary..etc
    <u><b>
    2. Conversion routines are attached at domain level</b></u>
    <u>
Conversion routine <b>MATN1</b> (connected function modules are CONVERSION_EXIT_MATN1_INPUT
CONVERSION_EXIT_MATN1_OUTPUT),  is attached for domain MATNR
<b>3. Value table are atttached at domain level (if fixed value ranges are not mentioned)</b></u>
for eg: value table mara is attached for Domain MATNR.
    <u><b>
    4. And most importantly, domains can be re-used for multiple data elements, in the same table.</b></u>
    Hope this helps,
    Sajan Joseph.

  • Is the Mountain Lion so much better than the Snow Leopard that make it worth buying?

Is the Mountain Lion so much better than the Snow Leopard that I'm currently using and worth the money to buy it?  Is it more or less confusing to operate?

OS X 10.7-18.0+ will NOT run any current PPC based programs your running.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
If you have a MacPro like your signature says (the tower, not the laptop) then it's not going to have much of a performance loss as say the MacBook Pro's will.
Older, less powerful Mac's have performance losses with the newer OS X Lions, it might be best to stick with 10.6.8 on a older machine until it drops, then spend the money on all new software on a newer machine instead.
One guy was here today and had a 2007 Intel Core 2 Duo and it was struggling to run OS X Mountain Lion, Chrome and Photoshop.
It just didn't have the hardware horsepower for all that bloatware.
My advice if it's not a top end iMac or MacPro, then 2010 is the cut-off point, those 2010 machines and earlier are likely better off on 10.6.8 max.
It all depends upon one's perception of performance really.

  • So What Is The Consensus On iDVD 08 ?

I have done a search but can't find the answer.
As with every piece of hardware and software there are people complaining about various problems. However, being optimistic (today!) I am prepared to believe that iDVD 08 works well usually.
So what do the "Top Users", who presumably don't have many issues, think about 08 ?
Is it generally an evolutionary improvement on the previous versions or are there any niggles that didn't occur previously ? What improvements do you find most useful ?
I will shortly be getting iLife 08 and want to know what to expect - I do believe, for instance, that most people regard iMovie 08 as a disaster for those interested in serious video editing.
    Ian.

This is merely a suggestion. You can take it or leave it. Normally I do not steer folks away from iLife'08. But in your own situation which apparently is similar to my own in that I too am working from a G4 processor along with apple's pro apps as well as i-apps (just like you apparently)..... I simply chose to purchase an earlier version of FCP and DVDSP instead (unopened apple original CD's I found on ebay for pennies on the dollar).
It was cheaper than buying the latest and greatest software and it works perfectly on my own G4 733 Digital Audio. Much more predictable to work within pro apps while maintaining professional results from start to finish as opposed to hitting a brick wall in failed attempt/s to get pro apps to function flawlessly within iDVD'08 (even tho the latter is also possible most of the time).

  • What is the consensus regarding AMM

Hi I am running a test database on AIX and have just upgraded from 10.2 to 11.2
When i created my database using DBCA i set the SGA to 512 mb. When i upgraded to 11g it said the minimum was 624mb which i increased it to.
I have just had a message in the alert log : ORA-12751: cpu time or run time policy violation but cant see any issues.
Anyway after looking at various different sites I decided to switch from using ASMM to AMM. What is the general concensus regarding AMM? How do most be manage the SGA- ASMM, AMM or manually?Am i right in thinking i no longer have to worry about changing any parameters in the SGA now?
    Many thanks for any feedback

I have it running in both of my 'major' databases that I'm primarily responsible for:
Exadata V2 (Linux) - AMM enabled - memory target/max = 40Gb, SGA max = 40Gb, PGA not set, shared pool not set, buffer cache not set - runs perfectly
11.2.0.3 (running on AIX) - AMM enabled - memory target/max = 15Gb - for this one, we had to explicitly set minimum values for PGA, SGA, buffer cache, shared pool (and subpools)
If I let Oracle have complete control on the AIX-hosted database, the performance was quite wild. Not sure whether that's because of the O/S or just because of the type of workload. I would suggest setting minimum values for the key components and then allowing Oracle to decide what gets any overhead at any particular time.

  • Is the reception of iPhone 5c better than 5s.

Was advised at a Telstra store that the reception of the iPhone 5s was worse than that of the 5c. Am thinking of upgrading from 4s.
    Has anyone experienced this?

Not sure about the 5C but the 5S is hugely worse than the 4S for data. And tethering is a dead loss in poor signal areas where it would work reliably with the 4S.
However it's not that simple - the 5S voice call performance seems BETTER than the 4S. I did a 45 minute call yesterday during a drive through several known blackspots where my 4S and indeed other non-Apple phones reliably drop the call, and not only did the 5S maintain the call but I didn't even have any dropped audio at all.
But despite the audio being solid I couldn't get ANY data out of it at all - and yes it was on 3G so should have been able to do voice and data simultaneously.
So my guess is a serious bug in the firmware or baseband around data handling rather than inherently poorer hardware in the 5S. Or at least that's what I hope as one wouldn't expect a newer phone to be worse than the previous model especially after the bizarre mess of the iPhone 4 and antennagate!

  • So What's the Consensus on USB Interfaces with Logic?

Digidesign's new ELEVEN Rack has a coreaudio driver and therefore can be used as a main interface. This is good news for those who like to use both Logic and Pro Tools, perhaps depending on the project, or to track in Logic and mix in PT.
But, Digi has chosen to make the Eleven Rack a USB interface. Some people on the DUC are not pleased about this and claim this will mean low track counts and all manner of horrors. I worry about it too. Digi went from the Mbox which was USB to the MBOX II Pro which is Firewire, and Ensemble and all the other top interfaces are firewire. Digi's answer seems to be that Firewire is going the way of the buffalo.
Does anyone have any real data on whether a USB interface will result in poorer perfomance?
    Thanks
    Tom

As FW is approx 5x faster than USB It will mean lower track counts, but as the Eleven rack is a guitar processor, I'm sure Digi aren't marketing it as a multitrack audio interface.
FTR: I went and had a listen to the Eleven and I wasn't all that impressed to be honest, the new Logic amp designer and pedals are far more realistic.

  • So what's the consensus on 3.5?

Is the upgrade worth the $99 or does it cause more problems than it solves?

I cannot speak from personal experience as I am still on 3.0 (for reasons too complicated to mention here).
However, most of the people who have made the change have said it is a really worthwhile improvement.
You will need to upgrade to Tiger first, so you might want to hang on for Leopard - and who knows - FCE 4.0 ?

  • So what's the consensus: update to adode reader 9.4.4?

Good idea? There's so much skepticism about the company, I'm being cautious…

Run the update. It will be patched against the latest whatever, until, in short time, you'll just have to run another update when the latest critical vulnerabiity is announced.
I only use Reader occasionally for printing. Most PDFs will open in Preview just fine. My default PDF app is Preview. The new Reader 10 is supposed to be more secure. Have no idea if this is really so. Not sure if it will run on 10.5, but you could look into it.
    This is from another board:
The best way to secure Reader is to uninstall it. This dramatically reduces the likelihood with which it can be exploited. If that's impractical, I recommend setting the following preferences under Adobe Reader --> Preferences:
        •    JavaScript: uncheck "Enable Acrobat JavaScript" and uncheck "Enable menu items JavaScript." Put a check mark next to "Enable global object security policy."
        •    Multimedia Trust (legacy): click the radio button for "Trusted documents" and uncheck "Allow multimedia operations." Then click the radio button for "Other Documents" and again uncheck "Allow multimedia operations."
        •    Security (Enhanced): check "Enable Enhanced Security."
        •    Trust Manager: uncheck "Allow opening of non-PDF file attachments with external applications." Next, under "Internet Access from PDF files outside the web browser" click the button labeled "Change Settings," then select "Block all web sites" and click OK.
        •    Finally, under "Identity," feel free to lie (although you can't change your login name).
When you're done, click OK, quit Adobe Reader, and lock its preference file.

  • Stream 7 - Upgrade to Windows 10 now or wait a while? What's the consensus?

At this point, I'm wondering if it is recommended to upgrade now or to wait. I tried installing Windows 10 yesterday and the installation failed during the last stages and reverted to 8.1. I'm wondering if it had something to do with the amount of disk space (yesterday, I had less than 8gb. Today (after some cleaning), I have 11.8gb. Also, I'd rather not have to deal with driver issues and other things mentioned in other threads. Can I get some insight?

Seems to be just slightly less snappy with Windows 10 vs 8, especially when it comes to complicated websites that embed video. But the charms menu is much improved, so much easier to turn off/on bluetooth and lots of other stuff. I am trying to figure out how to put an IE11 window because I prefer that over Edge (no adblock list).  I've never had the headphone buzz issue with my tablet, so others can chime in if upgrading to Windows 10 solves this for them or not.  For most people and even for myself eventually before the month is up, if you are happy with 8.1, stick with it, I don't see where this really changes anything for now.  P.S. - One thing, I didn't have much stuff installed but after installing Windows 10, I had 1 gb of memory left. So if your 8.1 tablet has a lot of stuff stored on it or not much storage space, I would recommend saving your stuff to an SD card before upgrading, you might not have enough drive space.
