having recently bought an ipod nano, and tried to help two other friends set theirs up i'm convinced not to bother switching to the world of Mac. what a **** hassle, and what crap software updates. see the other posts concerning the 03/23 update and you'll understand why i have wasted a whole day with this stupid machine.
and i thought mac was the world of reliablity, of ease of use, of simplicity, of non-microsoft confusion and unrealibility. reading help pages throughout the day it is very apparent there are many many ways the ipod screws up whilst installing. finding the particular problem i had thus took several hours of browsing. a resolution was only found once reading Gails solution on the forum. ie very little help from apple.
so in essence - thoroughly unimpressed and it all confirms the hype about mac - its misplaced loyalties and a snobbery against the hegemon of microsoft that claims an unfounded superiority. while my frustration with microsoft gave me strong reasons to look for a better alternative, dipping my toes in to the world of mac through the ipod has been extremely disappointing.

Actually every post I have seen about "issues" with the latest update were from Windows users. The majority of ipod users ranting and fuming over the ipods they own are also most often "windows" users, who ignorantly blame a peripheral device for issues that their computer is having. Sorry, I just can't follow your logic. Mac users have far fewer issues with ipods because, surprise surprise, ipods are an apple products and work best with apple computers. Go figure.

I was told that the APP store software should give me no problems but the truth is that it locks up on the software. This machine is only 4 weeks old and I am using 37 g on a 1 T hard drive. There is no reason for it to be locking up. Also, when I try to use the help program, it always tells me that I am not connected to the internet even though I have used both the mail program and the browser with no problem just before that. I successfully used the help program on my pc lots of times. I did not need a $2000. plus machine to just get email. I just wanted to unload on somebody that might understand my pain and after checking out this site...I think there is a few of you out there.

The apps downloaded from the Mac App Store are written by third party developers, not Apple. If you have problems with those apps you need to visit the support area for their websites. Launch the App Store, locate the app name. You should see a support link.

Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.helpviewer.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash. Restart your Mac, try the Help menu.
If you need help finding that file, hold down the Finder icon in the Dock then click: New Finder Window. From the menu bar top of your screen click: Go > Go to Folder. Type this in exactly as you see it here: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpviewer.plist That will take you right to that file.
(.plist) files stores information about a particular app or in this case, the Help viewer. Often times deleting the .plist file resolves the issue.
It's fine to "unload"... we understand that you expect your iMac to be stable but there are times when things go awry. That's why we have these forums so that you can you get help.

What are the rules about switching versions?

I thought projects created in iMovie 9 showed up in iMovie 10, but I just tried creating a new project in iMovie 9 this morning and it is not showing up in iMovie 10, even though I see projects from 2013 and before in there.
Also, what are the rules about switching versions? I know iMovie 9 much better, so can I start a project there and finish it in iMovie 10? I would like to gradually learn iMovie 10, but not all at once.
I assume that once a project is edited in iMovie 10, it can't be worked on in iMovie 9 anymore.

You have to update iMovie 9 projects to iMovie 10 from within iMovie 10 before they will appear in iMovie 10 as iMovie 10 uses a completely different project/event file system. After updating you can still work on projects in iMovie 9 but you won't see any changes made in iMovie 10 and you can't transfer them back.
I would have a good look at the iMovie 10 help files first since a lot is changed and some features have been discontinued that might be important to you.
In order to try out iMovie 10 on just one of your iMovie 9 projects, put the folders just for that project in a separate iMovie Projects and iMovie Events folder and hide the project and event folders containing the projects you don't want to update from iMovie 10 by enclosing them in a higher level folder (only projects and events folders in the Movies folder of the boot drive or at the root level of another drive or partition will be visible to iMovie).
I did it this way and I'm glad I didn't try to update evrything at once!

Variants allow you to save sets of input values for programs that you often start with the same selections. You can use them for any programs except subroutine pools. Whenever you start a program in which selection screens are defined, the system displays a set of input fields for database-specific and program-specific selections. To select a certain set of data, you enter an appropriate range of values. You can also use variants to change the appearance of the selection screen by hiding selection criteria. This is particularly useful when you are working with large selection screens on which not all of the fields are relevant.
So basically variants are use to ease your work directly or indirectly. Otherwise every time you need to give input to those values. To avoid doing the same steps again and again for selection screens you can create variants.

not sure what exactly you are looking for. NW BPM offers a BW integration which allows you to do reporting about such things. Some information can be found here:

Besides that there is a public API introduced in BPM 7.30 which allows you to access data via java api. But I guess the apis offered by the public API are not suited yet for your use case as it does not provide such advanced search capabilities.

What is the using about LMS License Kit in PI2.0

I has a client they want upgrade WCS 7.x to PI2.0, i received three PAKs one is (L-PI2X-LF-100) PI 2.x - Lifecycle - 100 Device Lic, (L-W-PI2X-50-U) WCS to PI 2.x Upg 50 Device and (L-PILMS42-KIT) PI - LMS License Kit.
The first two PAKs was completed but got the problem on LMS license !! When i try to import LMS license into PI and got failed !! May i know what is the purpose of LMS License Kit ?
P.S.
Our client does not has LMS before and they want upgrade WCS to PI only.

The LMS license wont get installed on the Cisco PI software. As Cisco PI still doesn't doesnt have all the LMS features imported, LMS license is provided for those who want to install Cisco Prime Lan Management Software (LMS) separately.
You can use that license individually there.

What is the fuss about Compressor 2?

I was not aware there was a problem with Compressor 2 until a couple of different colleagues whinged about it and then read these forums.
I am in PAL land and have no problems with it. I have always encoded a QT self-contained movie rather than export from FCP as I had sync problems with doing this with Comp 1. I then choose 2 pass VBR and make my own preset when I adjust the bitrate.
The forums mention blocky dissolves and blockiness in blacks and I have niether of these problems.
The encoding takes about three times the length of the video but the quailty is worth the wait. It is much better than Version 1.
Am I doing something wrong to be getting it right?

so your machine is running 1 processor only?! does your task manager (sorry can't remember the name since i am not at work) register only 1 working?! man that's some crazy stuff.
i can see why you have minimal problems with compressor 2, you made a new partition and installed 2 OS's (smart move). believe it or not, that explains a lot, no corrupt libraries, all plists in order.. very tighty
additionally, i see a lot of people suggesting against the use of 2-pass VBR, but like i said, i have had no problems with it. as far as encoding times, it is what it is. i am somewhat fortunate that i have a hardware encoder that i can just network my .m2v files and import them into DVDSP, however, i am starting to get a lot of video as QT's so i must use compressor, which i love, since it has come a long way from compressor 1~
just wait until you start working with HD, you are going to have a field day!

What is the solution about some trouble with itunes 10.5?

My PC : windows 7 My product is ipod Touch 4g.
I installed new version itunes 10.5 and iOS 5 On October 21 st 2011 but it has problems:
I can´t open itunes store and I can´t sync my ipod! .. what happen?... Please I need a solution about this problem.!

The solution for me was to completely uninstall PC Tools Spyware doctor with Antivirus and then do a complete reinstall. Just disabling the program will not work.
There are other solutions to the problem of not being able to access the itunes store in other threads.

What is the rule about installing SQL server 2000

I'm a bit confused if which of the two is the best that i can do:
1. install MS SQL 2000 to R/3 Apllication Box per box
or
2. install MS SQL 2000 in 1 box and link the r/3 Applications form it?
im using SAP 4.6.c. I dont know what should i do... is it REALLY required that the MSSQL 2000 be installed per box (DEV, PRD, DB, etc.)?

it is possible to have just one DB server with different DBs (DEV, QAS, PRD) on it. You have to decide if you install your DBs in one instance of SQL Server or if you install named instances - e.g. one instance for DEV, one instance for QAS and so on. If you have all DBs in one instance they all share the same ressources like processors, buffers etc. That means that your possibilities to tune such a system are limited. Also if you have to stop the instance (e.g. for Support Packages or patches) all SAP Systems are not available.
On a box with named instances you can distribute the server ressources among those instances. For example the DEV instance gets 512 MB of RAM and may use 2 processors. The PRD instance gets 2 GB of RAM and may use 6 processors. You can stop and patch each instance individually.
But if I understand your post correctly you work in an 32 Bit environment. In such a case I would never recommend putting PRD with DEV and QAS on one database server. For DEV and QAS a Cental System (SQL Server and SAP on the same server) is usually the right choice. For production you might want to install the Database Instance on a separate server and the Central Instance on a separate server. For scalability reasons you can then add as many Dialog Instances as necessary.
But always keep in mind, you only have ONE Database Instance per SAP system! You can install many Dialog Instances connected to that Database Instance. That means your database is the 'heart' of you SAP system and should be treated that way.

What's the problem(about MIDlet execution on windows platform)?

I port MIDP to win32, and it can install MIDlet and can use midp -list to check all midlets it installed.
But when I run MIDlet, midp -run 1 -heapsize 1M, it prompts me "Bad dynamic heap objects found".
Is anybody encounter this kind problem? could you give me sone suggestion?

Just in case no one has answered this question for you.
The difference is with the way the file Paths are handled.
The first filepath is telling the method to start at the root level of your directory tree and look for a directory called "WEB-INF". More than likely you do not have this directory at your root level.
When you remove the leading slash, you are telling the method to search your classpaths and find a directory called "WEB-INF". This is most likely the case.

So what's the hype about?
