So what's the potential downside to cache clearing?

I am surprisingly ignorant about this, given that I've been using Macs steadily since 1986 and have actually done a little low-level consulting.
I have a ridiculous amount of space being eaten up by cache files on my SSD, almost 7 gigs. I know caching speeds up browsers, but what do all the other caches do, and what might I lose if I just hit the button on Clean my Mac and let it all get cleaned?  Will I lose anything in terms of settings, or is that always in prefs files?
I am a bit of a digital hoarder, I am terrified of losing things, so I have crazy bookmarks and duplicates and multiple drives and lots of little doohickeys running that add a little bit of something or other to my work experience.... I can't STAND it when my settings and serials and all that stuff gets disrupted, becauseit's sucha time consuming pain in the *** to fix. So I never have the guts to just clear my caches, just in case.
But now that I'm booting from an SSD, I'm constantly fighting for space and that's a chunk I could use.
so will I feel it? Regret it?  Go mad with frustration?

Thanks for your help, but I'm not talking about browsers.  As I said:
"I know caching speeds up browsers, but what do all the other caches do, "
I'm talking about everything else. There are cache files for, it appears, virtually every applicaiton on my computer. from Airport Utility (128KB) to Adobe (588MB) to the monster of them all, Java, which has 5.01GB of cache files!  And it's also marked by Clean my Mac in red.
I just looked in the folder and the majority of that is ONE document... completely unreadable by me so i have no idea whether it's something I need or not.

  • What is the purpose of F-03 clearing? How to clear GL account there in F-03

    HI,
What is the purpose of F-03 clearing? How to clear GL account there in F-03.Please help me in understanding the concept.
    Thanks
    Supriya

    Hello,
There are cases where you pass some manual entries which might not have cleared against the other related item, THOUGH the balance has been ZERO.  Like cases where you reverse logistics invoice through MR8M, then entry gets reversed but they are still open items. Like some GRIR accounts might have debit and credit entries for same purchase order and the balance MIGHT have become ZERO, but still they are open item. To clear all these open itesm (changing the status of the open items to cleared items, you need to use F-03)
Please go to F-03 and give the GL account which want to manually clear the debit and credit items.
Normally you will this kind of activity for clearing account, where there is no automatic clearing mechanism explained in OB74.
now click on open items. (if you know any specific things like document number etc. you can fill them, then they will act as a FILTER and only those document numbers you feeded will be appeared)
Now select the items you want to clear. Deselected all other you do not want to clear. Selected items will be in blue colour and the difference at the end of the screen MUST be ZERO to post (unless you configured otherwise)
    Click on save button.
The entries passed will GL Account A Dr and GL Account B Cr. Meaning that there is no implication but posting the debit and crediting the same account and clearing the status of the line items from OPEN to CLEARED.
    Hope I am clear.

  • PE2 - What's the difference between "cut" and "clear" in Project Assets?

When removing items from the Project Assets area, what's the difference between "cut" and "clear"?
Also I believe "delete" is an option at times, but I couldn't replicate it.

Cut should Delete, but transfer that Clip to the Clipboard, where Clear will just Delete it completely - no transfer to Clipboard.
That can be tested by doing a Cut, then move the CTI (Current Timeline Indicator) to the end of the Timeline, and hit Ctrl+V (Paste). That Deleted Clip should appear after the CTI.
Then, clear (or choose a different Clip) the Clipboard, and try Clear. It should not Paste the Clip into the Timeline.
    Good luck,

  • What is the significance of Live Cache in demand planning ?

    Hi all,
Can anyone explain me significance of live cache in the demand planning. What are the issues will turn up for live cache if it is not properly maintained?
    Thanks
    Pooja

    Hi Pooja,
SAP has come up with Live cache concept for storage and most important, quick and efficient processing of transactional data. Its a layer between data base and GUI and even the search methods and storage space has been optimized due to its structure. In DP it is used for storage of time series data whereas in SNP it can store both time series and order series data.
Regarding your second query, it is recommended to have Live cache consistency on a periodic basis for synchrinising data between LC and database tables. You can face many issues due to LC inconsistency as incorrect time series generation, Transactional data discrepancy, COM routine errors during background processing etc.
Let me know if it helps

  • IPhone 3G - thinking of getting one but... what are the potential issues?

I'm thinking of getting an iPhone 3G because:
    1. I've been writing iPhone apps with a friend of mine (already have two in the app store) and I think I'm probably the only iPhone developer in the world who doesn't actually own an iPhone himself. My friend and partner in this venture has worked extra time doing actual testing on her original iPhone (and we've had other beta testers too), but there is only so much I can do in the simulator. I can't develop multi-touch or accelerometer features without my own device. And I feel I shouldn't put the entire hardware testing burden on her.
    2. I like the iPhone browser and the ability to use apps and a lot of other aspects of the iPhone.
    3. I live in Japan, and switching from my AU cell phone to the iPhone is actually a bargain here. There is no money down, and the payment plans start at like $25/month to a max of about $68/month. So it's actually cheaper here than in the U.S. Even adding in the $10-$15 extra charge for 24 months until the phone itself is paid off, it's no more expensive than my current cell phone. And I can keep my current phone number.
So it would seem to be a no-brainer. I should just walk over to my nearest Softbank store and get one, right?
The only thing holding me back is this - every time (and I mean every single time with no exaggeration) that I have ever purchased an Apple portable device, including every single one of my many MacBooks and MacBook Pros over the years and the iPod nano 3G I bought last year, have had problems that needed immediate care and replacement or servicing and, in the case of the iPod 3G that awful "tilted LCD" problem that after 3 exchanges I had to have the consumer affairs office in Tokyo arrange with Apple for me to get a refund on.
I love the systems, I am using my MacBook Pro right now as I write this message (already been repaired twice and the trackpad is acting funny again - glad I have AppleCare), but I dread the mental stress of dealing with getting my new out-of-the-box Apple products fixed. I feel they have quality checking problems with certain of the product lines.
I just know that there is going to be something really annoyingly wrong with the iPhone 3G as soon as I turn it on - like obviously dead pixels, or a tilted LCD like with the iPod nano 3G, or some weird color discolorations, or something loose and jiggly like with my MBP battery cover or ... I don't know... something. It's just happened too often with me to not be wary.
So my question is this. If the Softbank store lets me turn on and check out the iPhone before buying it, what are the things I should look out for?
Are there common, well-known issues with the iPhone 3G that I can check for, similar to the tilted screen issue on the iPod nano 3G?
    Any suggestions would be welcome.
I would like to get an iPhone. I just want one with no problems out-of-the-box.
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    doug

But if it is something more subtle like "the colors seem wrong" or "the screen is not set straight" it will take more arguing. And I can't stand arguing about stuff like that just to get a good phone.
So... What were the problems you had with your phone?
Well the only reason I got the IPhones was because it was a birthday gift,And the first phone I got was the 16G in white so when we got home My screen was jumping so I said okay maybe if I power my phone off and than cut it back on maybe it will started to work a little better,While it didn't I just made thing worse My screen was only jumping it wouldn't come back on after that,So I was so mad cause we had to drive a 138 miles to get my phone and than my cousin came over and she have the same phone I had just got.But her phone look like she had it for some years the white on the back of the phone had turned a off white.
So we had to drive other 138 miles there and back for me to get other phone and when I made it to the Apple store I didn't know you suppose to call and make appt before you come up there about your phone. So I'm standing up there telling them that I just came yesterday and drove a 138 miles here and back and I just had to turn around and do it again today. So they went on and seen me and ask me what was going on with my phone. So I told them as they can see it was not coming on no more.
So they exchange my IPhone and I didn't get the same color due to how my cousin white IPhone was looking like,So I got a black IPhone instead.
So the new phone I got was working so good and than about two weeks later my phone would blink on and off and it would freeze on you during call's are anything. So you already know what I had to do again I had to drive other 138 miles there and back and I was not happy about that at all.So this time before I went I made appt that morning to come and they told me to come around 200pm but for me to try to be there at least ten minutes early. So I made it there around 145pm they didn't get to me still around 315pm.So when they final call me to go talk to someone about what's going on with my phone. They ask me for my receipt and I let them know I didn't have it cause they didn't give it to me cause yale told me I didn't need it cause yale was going to send it to my email address.
So they went to try to look up my email address,That took them other 30 minutes to find it,But they finial found it in there system. So they went on and exchange my phone again with no problem at all.
So this phone I got was doing so good, I really thought my trouble was all over still I saw a black line running down my screen of my phone. So I had to get on the phone with apple again so I can make other appt for the 3rd time,So I can go up there and bring this phone so they can look at it,Cause I thought maybe I was seening something are it suppose to be on my phone and I didn't know,But to come to find out it didn't suppose to be on my phone so they had to replaces my phone for the 3rd time.
So I bent haveing this phone That I got now about 3 months now and I got to tell you I went through **** and back to get this phone and it's really doing good really love the phone so much I'm so glade that I didn't give up on this phone because I was haveing so much bad luck with getting a IPhone I was about to give up but I am so glade that I kept trying. It really is a great phone to have it have so much on this phone I love it.I just hope I don't have no more problem down the line cause I don't want to go through this again.
I feel were you are coming from cause I wouldn't want nobody to go through what I went through try to getting my phone.
But I'M telling you,it might be worth you going through this at the end..The TV on this phone is so unbelievable I'M telling you,you going to love it.Before I go to sleep at night I listen to my i pod on my IPhone and I love it that's how I go to sleep at night are I might watch a movie that I have on my phone at night. It's a great phone to have all the way around I give it a ten.
And other thing you said you don't like to arguing sometime you just have to do that.you and me have so much in common cause I don't like that my self,I feel like why should I have to raise my voices to get my point a cross that's just crazy to me.
So how long do yale have to exchange something were you stay.

  • In EJB3 entities, what is the equiv. of key-cache-size for PK generation?

We have an oracle sequence which we use to generate primary keys. This sequence is set to increment by 5.
    e.g.:
    create sequence pk_sequence increment by 5;
This is so weblogic doesn't need to query the sequence on every entity bean creation, it only needs to query the sequence every 5 times.
With CMP2 entity beans and automatic key generation, this was configured simply by having the following in weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml:
    <automatic-key-generation>
    <generator-type>Sequence</generator-type>
    <generator-name>pk_sequence</generator-name>
    <key-cache-size>5</key-cache-size>
    </automatic-key-generation>
This works great, the IDs created are 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, etc and weblogic only needs to hit the sequence 1/5 times.
However, we have been trying to find the equivalent with the EJB3-style JPA entities:
    We've tried
    @SequenceGenerator(name = "SW_ENTITY_SEQUENCE", sequenceName = "native(Sequence=pk_sequence, Increment=5, Allocate=5)")
    @SequenceGenerator(name = "SW_ENTITY_SEQUENCE", sequenceName = "pk_sequence", allocationSize = 5)
But with both configurations, the autogenerated IDs are 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, etc - weblogic seems to be getting a new value from the sequence every time.
    Am i missing anything?
    We are using weblogic 10.3

  • What is the definition of cookies, cache, and local storage?

Hello all, my first post but I've been Mac'd for about two years now.
My question is, how do cookies, cache, and local storage function, and other than where they're stored, what makes them different.

Thanks Sig, actualy I brushed up on the definitions prior to posting the question. Was hoping for more of a dialog on the subject as it seems there is some confusion. At least my conversasion with Support would suggest. So I'm curious what other members of the Apple community have to say.
Local Storage are flash cookies yet I was told not to be concerned as I am blocking cookies just fine. So are we talking hot dogs or franks?...

  • What is the recommended 'file handling cache' size for LRCC(6) on MAC OS? Is there an upper limit at which it has a negative impact on performance?

When using the brush tool at full screen (Fill mode not 1:1) for extended period (10-15 minutes) I begin to experience a lag in screen replenish and often get the Mac beachball. The entire operation of the Dev/Brush tool slows and gets unmanageable. I usually close LR and restart but the problem returns. I turned off the GPU support as that exacerbated the problem.
Image is 21MB Canon Raw file.
1:1 and Smart Preview was built on Import.
Using brush tool at low flow (40%) and density (100%) so there are a lot of 'strokes' applied in B/D of areas of image

Keep in mind Video/Animation applications use more ram now than almost any other type and there are far more memory hungry services running in the background as well. Consider the normal recommendations are for standard applications. HD material changed far more than just the need for 64Bit memory addressing.

  • What is the faceplate made of? Clear glaze (what is it?)

I am looking to machine a part for my iPod and was wondering what they used as a glaze to not only cover the faceplate but to act as an LCD shield. I have always been curious and was wondering if anyone could help me! Thanks in advanced!

Well, the band is stainless steel, and the front and back are Gorilla glass. But you have been very lucky. Many people who drop their phones are very sad.

  • What's the best (easiest way) to clear up voice recorded from far away?

I decided to record my professor during one of his lectures.
I sit in the back (power outlet~), and thus the voice is really muffled.
I figured I'd be easily able to clear up the sound later in CS6.
Sounds easy anyways, but for some reason, I'm not having any luck in it.
I've done much more complex restoration stuff (no where near pro, just ocd haha), but never worked with voice before.....
Any ideas will be helpful. Pretend like I've only used audition for a few days.
    Thanks all~!

Unfortunately there isn't an easy or even very successful way to do this in any audio software. See the long discussion at:

  • What's the security difference between WPA and WPA2 Personal?

In order to get my G4 iMac (OS 10.4.11) onto my new AEBS(b/g/n) wi-fi network, I had to drop the network security down from WPA2 Personal to WPA/WPA2 Personal.
What are the potential security risks in this mode? I know that WEP is no longer secure, so I'm concerned about WPA also being vulnerable.
If there's a good online explanation of these security differences (not necessarily Apple-only), you just give me that link.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Summary:
1.WPA2 is the improved version of WPA
2.WPA only supports TKIP encryption while WPA2 supports AES
3.Theoretically, WPA2 is not hackable while WPA is
4.WPA2 requires more processing power than WPA

I don't regularly use any apps beyond Windows Live, Facebook, Skype etc. but app crashes are becoming frequent and this recent blackout was disturbing. What are the potential causes of this and how can I avoid them in the future?

it's weird , your device is not jailbreraked and it crashes? my device is jailbreaked and i almost have the same problems.
    look, to avoid these problems:
1- dont open too much apps , and if you do , close them by multitasking menu.
2-try sometimes to turn off and on your device , its like refreshing ( called "respringing" in jailbreaked devices.
if you have the same problem , see an apple specialist.
