That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards? -

Hello, I hope by now you have resolved the upgrade issue, but if not, here is what I ended up having to do:
“SUCCESS!!! I took my iPod to a friend who is a computer programmer/genius. He turned off his wireless, hooked the ethernet cable directly into his computer, and the download went through without a hitch. YAY!”

I got an iPod Touch 1st gen for my youngest son for Christmas as a starter. It has the 2.1.2 ios on it, but after I paid for the upgrade to 3.1.1, I keep getting an error message (8288) saying there was a problem with the network connection. I have called customer service, and they suggested I try on a different computer, and if that didn't work, try connecting to a different network, and then trying the update. None of this has worked. It seems that tech support is clueless with this issue.
I have installed and unistalled iTunes 10.5, 10.3, 10.4, and now I am back with 10.5. I have tried looking up the issue from several search engines but no one seems to have a universal solution and I have tried several.
I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.

I’m not trying to bash, it just bothers me that he put up this whole story and finally, at the very end of his blog post, posts his solution. -
Can you drop iOS 4 support for an app already in the App Store? What iOS version is good to target?
Now that AIR supports the MinimumOSVersion key, apps can set a specific minium version they will support. It wasn't available before, so it ended up in the app store with the default of 4.0.
Any device that AIR supported had to have ARMv7 anyways and I believe all ARMv7 iOS devices can update to at least 5.1.1, so would it be an issue with apple to drop iOS 4 support? Any device that could get the app before can upgrade to iOS 5+ for free to support it.
Only a small portion of people are still running iOS 4, and I get the feeling that most of those are folks with ancient ARMv6 devices that can't upgrade past iOS 4 and could never use the app anyways due to ARMv6. So why bother with testing for iOS 4 and possibly having to give iOS 4 related tech support?
If supporting 5+, is it a good idea to target 5.0 or 5.0.1 or 5.1 or 5.1.1 or what?Any of the non-user generated resources is in the tmp or Cache folders (which are not backed up) on mine, so that shouldn't be an issue in my case.
I looked at the wiki for iOS 5 and i didn't see any developer-related features other than that 'do not back up' thing that were added between sub-versions of iOS 5, so maybe I should target 5.0?
I'm still wondering, how do you handle dropping older versions of iOS? Surly developers can't be expected to maintain support for discontinued versions of iOS forever just because their app has been around for awhile? Apps eventually need to advance and use new OS features and require performance of current devices. Just set the MinimumOSVersion key to 5.0 or whatever and that's it? -
When I Copy & Paste, what results in the Paste is NOT what I copied. With enough shaking, eventually a box appears saying "Undo Change attributes", which fixes it. HOW do I turn off "Change attributes" in iOS 5.1?
Did you ever figure out which output worked the best? I have the same original footage; trying to determine the best output settings to make a dvd for tv.

Region Monitoring iOS 7 : didEnterRegion method is not calling when app is killed by user or by OS in iOS 7 only. It is working fine when it is in background. and the same code is working fine with iOS 6 for both app in suspended mode and background mode. What changes I have to made to work great in iOS 7 also.

What is wrong with wifi after iOS 6 update on the new iPad ?
Since I upgraded to iOS 6 my iPad ***** at connecting to Wi- Fi. I have been using iPads since the original launch and I currently own the 3rd gen iPad. Since the upgrade to iOS 6.0 the performance of Wi-Fi is terrible. My iPad often cannot find networks that were working less an hour earlier. The only resolution to this issue that i have found is to consistent is to power off the iPad for a few minutes and try again. Sometime I have to do this 3-4 times to get Wi-Fi working again. I have seen other reports of similar problems in web forums and in tech news. What is Apple doing to resolve these issues? What is the expected timeline for a resolution?
This is an iPad user to user forum and Apple doesn't read. So we have no way of knowing when an update to iOS 6 will be released.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Hi, I have an iPod touch 2G with an iOS of 4.2.1 and there are no updates available for my device, I want to download an older version of iBooks that is compatible with my device. Pls what can I do?
- The 2G iPod can only go as high as iOS 4.2.1. It does not have the hardware to support a higher iOS version.
- Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.
- You can only download the current version from the App store. -
Recently I wanted to upgrade the IOS for my iphone 4 following the guidelines closely with my friend's help. Unfortunately, we are unable to do so. I felt disappointed as I am looking forward to installing Apps, WeChat, Whats App, etc. I have bought it 2 years ago. I have read the FAQ, mine is the same as many other complaints as in the Settings-General, no "Software Update" appear but we have follow step by step but failed to do so.

Regards/Michelle GeeYou are following the wrong guidelines. The Software Update option was not introduced until a later version. You need to connect to iTunes to update if you currently have iOS 4 or earlier.

If your issue isn't resolved after 24 hours, please contact Apple for assistance. You don't provide much info on which version of iOS you started with, what iOS you updated to and what version of iTunes is on your computer. Be nice to know also if you are using a Mac or a pc to sync.
But I'll make a guess that you have a Mac and it has an older version of OSX on it. I'll also guess that you updated to iOS 6.1.3 and now find that iTunes on your Mac will not recognize your iPhone.
iOS 6.1.3 requires iTunes 10.7 or later.
iTunes 10.7 and later ( iTunes 11.0.1 is the cur recent version of iTunes) requires Mac OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) or later. The latest version of OSX is 10.8.3.
If this is the case for you the only way you can sync with your computer is to upgrade your OSX to at least 10.6.8 and install iTunes 11.
Not all macs can update to OSX 10.6.8. -

I purchased this last November (weekend AFTER Black Friday) and I did replace it about 4 months ago when the screen cracked (thank God for the accidental coverage plan).
