So which LED Tv would you guys suggest?

Hello I recently purchased a Panasonic p50g20 but it had numerous problems and I don't like all the hassle that comes with plasma's.  Most of the time instead of just enjoying myself I was worried bout image retention, etc..
So , anyways, I am looking to buy an LED.  When I was shopping around for a Plasma in my budget (1100-1500) it became pretty obvious the Panasonic G20 series was the way to go for plasmas.  I am hoping there is a similar brand/model that is the "go to" so to speak for this budget?  I want at least a 46 inch.  Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you

You bought into all the Samsung and LG scare tactics for plasmas. Burn-in is no longer a problem for plasmas, except in extreme circumstances. If I were you, I'd stick with a plasma. They still are less expensive for the large sizes, and give a better picture. LCD still can't beat their black levels.
This is not true.  Especially when you consider that Samsung churns out some of the best quality plasmas out there.  I don't really get the whole black level thing that supposedly makes Panasonics "superior".  The black levels on Samsungs are really good.  Yes, Panasonics do have better black levels, but the differences are minute.  Where Samsung excels is the color saturation.  Colors look very, very realistic.  I had the PN50B860 series and I was very shocked that I had to make virtually no picture adjustments.  I'm very big on faithful colors.  Dynamic and oversaturated colors look good for animated and 3d rendered films, but for the rest I like my colors to look natural.
Permanent burn in for plasmas are virtually a thing of the past now.  However, they are still plagued with Image Retention problems.  This is a big problem for gamers.  The IR is not permanent, but it is annoying.  It goes away after a few minutes or you can always utilize the pixel washing feature.  There are also burn-in prevention steps that you can take.  This includes leaving your Plasma running with a constant moving picture for 100 hours, or using the pixel wash for 30 hours.  This uniformally ages the pixels and greatly reduces the chances of perm burn-in.
I agree with Nokia on the superior picture quality of Plasmas.  LCDs are plagued with motion problems.  My biggest issue with LCDs while watching HD content is this phenomena called the "Soap Opera Effect".  It used to bug me to no end and I once believed it to be a problem with all HD content.  I later found out that this effect is due to the LCDs' judder reduction engines.  Watching HD on Plasmas is far more eye pleasing than LCDs.
As for your original question about the best LEDs...  Samsung's LED TVs win hands down.  One word of caution though, although I'm not familiar with current year models, the 6000 series Samsung LEDs have ghosting issues that they never corrected through firmware updates.  The 7 and 8 series did get an update which fixed this issue.  Another thing you need to consider is their auto-dimming feature.  You can't shut it off and trust me, it gets really annoying.  I had the 6 series and the combination of auto-dim and ghosting problems made me quickly return the unit.  The redeaming factor is the outstanding picture quality.  With some video adjustments and tuning, the picture on this set was outstanding.  The best picture quality out of any LED by a good margin.
Vizio also makes good LEDTVs.  They are also very affordable.  Keep in mind, Vizio LCD screens are made by LG.  Their plasmas are made by Panasonic.  Panasonic has openly admitted that Vizio buys their seconds which include factory defects.  LG doesn't say anything about their relationship with Vizio.
I've seen good Sony LEDTVs as well.  Of course, they aren't priced very competitively lol.  Verdict: Get a Samsung if you want LED.  They deliver the closest picture competition to the best plasmas.

  • What Would You Guys Do?

I make this summer video type thing for my friends and family every year. This year I wanted to have something at the beginning to really make it cool so this is what I was thinking... I wanted to do a 1 shot opening set in high speed from getting up in the morning to getting to the lake we always go to... The difficult part of this is that I want to have the credits of the people who are in the movie appear on objects as I drive on the street like you see the street signs say a persons name with there picture, or I pick up a soda can and its not the brand name on there its a persons name and picture. So my basic question is how would you guys do this? I assume shake would be the best program for placing the text and pictures on the objects and making them look real, I'm just not as good with shake as I am with Final Cut Studio 2. I have only had shake for a little while now , and dont really know what the best way to do this would be.
Also i am using a camera that records on mini dv tape just so you guys know, I have heard some people say that changes the way you work with shake a bit.

Hmm I would suggest key framing a corner pin. Or if you want better results use tracking. Take a text node in the image section and then add a corner pin which is in the transform section. To keyframe it press the button with the key on it under the video. Once your done get and over node and put the text in the first input and the video in the second. If you look in the tutorial pdf you go with shake it will tell you how to do this with a tutorial replacing a bus sign. Hope that helped.

  • Which topic categories would you like to subscribe to? NO WAY TO ANSWER THIS

In setting my options. I come to this question: "Which topic categories would you like to subscribe to?"
I also see a system-defined answer: "No topics defined".
And there is no drop-down list or text box, so so no visible way to set up some topics.
So - How do I define a topic or list of topics?

It's FireFox, when I set options for receving posts from the support site (like whether or not I want to receive a digest or individual e-mails). This particular aption is supposedly set be responding to the question "Which topic categories would you like to subscribe to?"

  • Which email service would you recommend and why? Google's or BC's?

Which email service would you recommend and why? Google's or BC's?

Easy Answer. Google. Hands down Google is better. BC has had issues in the past and while I think the issue is a little bit better I would choose Google. Do remember that Google Apps is $50 (USD) per year per user.
I have used Google Apps since they were still offering 50 free users and has worked great ever since. If there have been downtimes I have not noticed or has been so slight that is hasn't effected me in anyway. This is not the case with BC.
I am not trying to knock BC mail but it isn't the best.

    Hi,
how would you guys block portable Apps like Skype, firefox,Kproxy and gtalk etc etc ?
it just runs from USB / Local HDD .
obviously I could just block all USB ports but is there a better way?

    Hi,
Preventing users from running portable applications can be done through:
Configuring specific User Account Control Settings
    Software Restriction Policies
    AppLocker

  • Would you guys please release a 1.3 update for original Open?

    Dear developers at Mozilla.
ZTE and you guys have been kicking users like a football between each other in regard to an update to the original Open, with one party telling users to talk to the other in endless loop.
FFOS 1.1, as on the Open, is UNUSABLE, with constant warning of out of memory on 80% of the webpage, extreme sluggish, unresponsive operations. Granted, its not an expensive phone, but its still $70, a month's food for some people. I skipped icecreams to save $5 (and my tummy), spent $70 on your good name, and guess what I got?
We know a 1.3 update is doable, because xda people has already packed FFOS 2.1 *.img files for flashing of the original Open.
This is FFOS's future, none of the users would have purchased this thing if not for your brand, by kicking users back and forth and offers no real help whatsoever, you are tarnishing your own brand.
Just pay ONE competent developer an extra day from your no doubt extremely busy schedule to help people who spent money because they loved you guys. PLEASE. It doesn't even take you ONE day, and it helps thousands of people! Whats stopping you? ZTE doesn't, and you are our best hope!
If GPS or home button won't work, nobody give a damn about those, put a disclaimer on it, a few dysfunctional things is a million times better than this UNUSABLE plastic thing at the moment.
I already dug my own grave and purchased a Open C, which I imaging will be in the update graveyard sooner than I can finish typing this post. But at least It a nice phone that is usable!
I don't even dare to put my Open on ebay, because I cannot, in all honesty, tell people they are buying something thats remotely useful, I am ashamed FOR you, not Of you.
Apple has fanboys, google has money, all your have, is good name, which I tried my best to spread since 1998. Please, don't ruin it!
    Sincerely
    Chris

I tried, but fastboot kept giving me "waiting for devices".
Anyway, I sold the Open phone on ebay, and I clearly stated the sluggish performance of it so hopefully buyer won't be in for a shock of his life.
I am happy with the Open C now, I do worries what kind of update it will have down the road. 1.4, 2.0, etc. Still, at least 1.3 is very much usable, unlike 1.1 on the Open. Worst case scenario, I can sell it again next year for another $35 and get a flame or something.
I now just hope Mozilla carefully consider options available to help end users. I know they have to pick a partner from limited options, but do stand up a bit more to vendors, end users are your future, while vendors are all in it for money.

  • What camcorder under $500 would you guys recommend?

I'm about to have a baby in the next week or so, and I'd like to get a camcorder!
What camcorder would you recommend to work well with the Mac lifestyle?
I have an iMac 21" + apple TV, and I don't really need HD or anything - just good wquality widescreen footage would be nice to watch on AppleTV once I'm done editing in iMovie.
    Any suggestions?
    // Martin

A miniDV tape cam will give you lossless quality video, as opposed to other formats that use high compression to store the video files. Definitely avoid any DVD cam, as DVD's are end products and they are not intended for editing purposes.
Since you seem to be new to moviemaking, you may also not know that you can get a free download of iMovie HD6, the previous version of iMovie and many will say the last, best iMovie made. It offers greater editing capabilities and a pro style timeline editing format, as opposed to iMovie 08, which is geared towards the You Tube style moviemaker and has a very different workflow.
If you do decide that HD6 offers more of what you want, you must only consider a miniDV cam with firewire, as iMovie HD6 will only capture from that format. Other format cams will require third party software, extra time and loss of quality in your final production, if you need to import non .dv files into HD6.
Having a tape cam also allows you to always safely keep your original footage, plus make a tape copy of your finished movie by exporting from iMovie HD6 back to your cam. Tapes are far more reliable long term storage media, if stored properly, than any DVD or hard drive will ever be.
Here's the link to the free HD6 download:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html
Here's a link to a camcorder review website to help you decide which way to go. Bear in mind that salespeople are going to direct you to what their store wants you to buy and with the glut of hard drive, flash memory and DVD cams out there, the best format, miniDV, is not getting its fair shake.

  • Would you guys price match THIS sale price?

    {removed per forum guidelines}
I have a Best Buy gift card and I'd rather buy it from your company than Sears.
But I know if I go in store to attempt a price match I'm going to get one snippy rep or another making a comment about how it's 'too much of a discount' like when I asked them to PM Wolfenstein: The New Order last week. Kmart had it for $20 in store, you guys had it at $60, even though I'm pretty sure MSRP has gone down to at least $40 by now on it.
Anyway, any ideas if you guys would match that Dual Shock 3 I linked above? It's priced currently at $15.65 from Sears.com and as of the time this thread is being created(3:17am EST 12/14/14) it is still in stock and available for shipping as well as in stock to buy at my closest Sears store.

    Hi CheapestGamer,
I'm sorry for our delay to your post. We're doing our best to reach everyone who has contacted us. I'm also sorry you weren't able to get your price match approved; unfortunately, it sounds like we made reasonable efforts to verify its availability at Sears, but we had to deny your request based on the information we were given. Still, I'm glad you were able to find the items you were looking for, even if they weren't purchased from us.
    Thanks for sharing your story.

  • Which server OS would you choose?

    Hi,
To choose the better server for running Jdev 11.1.1.5 projects, which one would you prefer?
    Win 08 server
    Oracle Linux 5.7
    Many Thanks & Best Regards,
    HuaMin

    HuaMin,
    I'd chose an OS that:
    a). Is officially supported
b). You and/or your company has experience with and is comfortable supporting and tuning
As much as Windows tends to be maligned, if you and your company are well experienced in running Windows servers, then by all means, use Windows. Myself, I'd prefer Linux, but that's because I have more experience in running Linux servers in production.

  • Which migration path would you pick?

You have 2 instances of DBMS with multiple applications attached to them: one is Oracle and the other is SQL Server. They evolved over the years from different organizations serving the same types of clientele but the clientele are disjoint. What would you do when asked to consolidate DBMSs?
[1] Maintain separate schemas: Use the Oracle Migration Workbench method to migrate everything in SQL Server to Oracle under a different schema?
    [2] Deep integration:
    - Shoe-horn the schema of SQL Server into the schema in Oracle
    - convert all t-sql sprocs to PL/SQL by hand
I am darn sure the [2] is going to cost a whole lot more but how many times more are we talking here --- 2X, 3X, ???? Would anyone in their right mind do [2]?
Please share your thots on this. Thanks!
    AY

We have a great many customers doing both. Today you can use SQL Developer Migrations to migrate the SQL Server to Oracle and that includes the T-SQL. I'll leave the forum readers to answer your query from their experiences, but please drop me a line at [email protected] I'd be happy to help you discuss your options in terms of migrating to Oracle and provide you with details and material to get you started.
In the meantime - please note that there are small tutorials and demonstrations on the Migrations page that can give you an idea of the process once you are ready to migrate. http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration//workbench/index_sqldev_omwb.html

  • What do you guys suggest for playing guitar thru my Macbook Air? I use guitar pro software to learn tabs but I would like to be able to play along thru the computer. thanks

I used to play my guitar thru my PC using a line 6 Guitar port, Then I could play along with Guitar Pro tabs or MP3's. Now I have the Guitar Pro software on my Mac Air and I neeed an interface (which I can get at the Appple store- guitar plug to USB) but I neeed a suggestion for what software to run as an amp simulator, maybe line 6 is the best or maybe there are others I should check out. I know there are guitar "apps" for Ipads etc but this is a Mac. BTW I did not like the guitar sounds produced by Garageband. Thanks

I'm using GJABB with Logic Express 7.2.3 and have no problems.
However, I haven't started messing around with the modulation wheel yet which is pretty important in this libary since it controls volume. The sounds are great, though. I've just raised the mod wheel on each track to get the basic arrangement done, then I'll try the mod wheel for expression.
One thing about this library is that it pretty much forces you to do single horn lines since each patch is monophonic (like the real instrument). It does produce pretty nice results that way. I haven't tried upping the polyphony as I like the results this way.

  • Which harddisk brand would you suggest?

I'm not sure if this question fits this forum, but I have no idea who else to ask. So I hope you can give me some advice.
I want to buy the new Mac Power TAURUS housing for 2 SATA harddisks.
    This one here:
    http://www.heyfile.com/photo/2007/20070319_MacPowerTaurus/11.jpg
Now I'm looking for two harddisks to build into it. But I cant decide which brand to buy. Maxtor, Hitachi, Samsung & Co.
Each disk should have between 200 and 500 GB.
Background: I'm sick of burning BackUp DVDs. I want to set the disk to Mirror-RAID and only use it for back-up. So the disks dont need realtime-video performance. Size & prize ist more important to me.
    Best regards,
    Jan / Germany

We just bought 6 Maxtor 1TB drives. No problems yet.
Apples uses Hitachi drives in their RAIDs. We have two almost 3 year old Xserve RAIDs that have been in constant use for this time period. Two drives have failed within the past 4 months, but that is still just 2 out of 28, and they are 3 years old. I wouldn't consider Hitachi drives unreliable based on that.
I haven't used Samsung drives. You don't mention Seagate, and that's good. They are the only drive manufacturer I would specifically recommend against. We have Seagate drives in our Windows servers and the darn things have been failing right and left, some of them while still under warranty. Personally, I don't think Seagate has made a decent drive since 1986.
