So why bother with Notes at all?

I was an avid user of Palm Memo's and have transferred to using Notes on my iPhone 3G. I was just updating a note that contained a bunch of measurements, when the phone went crazy and started deleting each word of the note before my eyes. I'd tap the screen and it wouldn't stop. I'd keep touching and it still wouldn't stop. It was like it was permanently "touched" (pun intended). Finally I just hit the Done button and it went back to the main page but my whole note was gone.
I've just spent the past 2.5 hours scanning the net trying to figure out how to restore that one note to get back all the measurements. Yes, I faithfully backed up my iPhone and and synced and it was on my computer, so I knew it was there. However as soon as I plugged it into the computer to try and restore, it backed it up again and I couldn't cancel the sync and now my latest backup contains the corrupted note!
I've been pouring through perl scripts to try and at least dump the information from an old backup, but it looks like "dbextract" doesn't work on the newest phones. I tried MobileSyncBrowser and it worked great and gave me the newest and most corrupt version of the Note that just got backed up, but I can't look at older versions of the note and its not meant as a restore tool either. I could completely restore from a backup but can I do it from the "2nd oldest" backup? And will it restore Notes? I've read that a restore doesn't do SMS messages or notes.
I have to tell you - why bother relying on Notes?

Cool app, but I agree, this should be part of the iphone's built-in features. We shouldn't have to shell out an additional $19.95.
Notes should also be organized alphabetically, or at least have a preference to do so.
I came over from the Palm world also and used their version of "Notes" ("Memos") all the time. This should be one of Apple's top priorities for the iPhone IMHO, along with copy/paste (come on, it's a computer for crying out loud!), and a real data search function (For example: search "detroit" and get a list of calendar items, contacts, memos with "detriot" in entries.) This should also be included with the high price of admission.
Yes, I have requested these features to be added. After my 2 year contract is up, I will be looking at the competition if these basic issues aren't addressed.
PS - Still an antiquated STILL camera, and no ability to send or d/load attachments like movies? Not exactly cutting edge.

Phones supplied by network operators are network-branded. This means that they alter the features of the phone to suit their marketing needs and basically turn it into a semi-functional device used to advertise to you. Features that they don't want you using are removed, their logo is plastered all over the place and links to their services are stuffed into the menus.
In some cases, they add a few features that are required to take full advantage of their subscriber services.
Given that the firmware in these phones is something based on Nokia's original firmware but subsequently modified by the network operator, any updates that the operator is planning on releasing will become available to your branded phone after they've been made available to generic, SIM-free phones. You will have to wait for your network operator to modify the firmware and release it, and this can often take a very long time, if indeed the operator bothers doing it at all. You may well be left with buggy firmware while users of SIM-free phones have already updated theirs and thus eliminated the bugs. Not to mention bugs introduced by the networks themselves during the branding process.

Why Bother with Objective C?

Given the tools out there for writing iOS apps in HTML, Jquery, C#, Ruby, etc, including some with generate apps that can run on both Android and iOS,
why bother writing in Objective C?

Interesting. Do you know of any similar projects with different languages? RubyMotion looks cool, but only if, as you say, "Ruby is your thing". For me, it is just another syntax. But to get back to the question of why bother with Objective-C, the answer is clearly the Objective-C runtime. It doesn't turn C into Perl, but it comes quite close. It comes so close that it really isn't worth ones time to bother with Objective-Perl.

Why does iphoto not copy all photos when transfering

Hi peeps.
why does iPhoto not copy all photos from an event when im copy/pasting to an external folder on my mac(for later transfer). All softwares are up to date and ive only just realised it happens, but when i copy all pics in an event then paste in a folder, the pic count is substantially different. for example i select all pictures in an event called 'new1', the count of files is 188. i then copy/ paste to a folder, select all files and check 'info' and it says 141 files???
all i can see painstakingly going through to compare which images are in each place is that the ones that arent in my new folder , seem to be the ones ive edited in iPhoto?? conincidence? or am I missing something fundamental here? Ive only just realised this is occuring. The trouble is, after moving images to folders/hard drives I subsequently delete them from iphoto to keep my macbook airs HDD with some space. So basically all of the versions of pictures I want, i.e, the new edited and adjusted versions are no longer! NOT HANDY!

We've seen a few reports of this in the past while and no one is sure of the cause.
Use the File -> Export command. See this User Tip

means you are losing quality, metadata and the version of control. If you don't want these why use iPhoto at all?
You could just move the whole Library to an external:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

We are using Adobe Acrobat Reader, version 11.0. It's on a relatively new laptop (Windows 8) and accessing the internet through Mozilla. The printer is an HP Officejet. When I open a multi-page Adobe document and try to print all pages, I only get 1-2, have to then say print page 3, then say print page 4, etc. We use Adobe on our other laptop and it prints all pages of all Adobe documents and we have never had a problem and he accesses documents on the internet also through Mozilla.

Ralph9430 offers a good suggestion. But you may need to do this before taking his advice:
Check in iPhoto's Preferences (which you can open from the iPhoto menu). Look in General, and make sure "Connecting Camera Opens" is set to "Image Capture").
If it is set to "iPhoto", you won't be able to get to Image Capture easily.

Before you restored it, did you check that box on the sync screen that downconverts the songs to a slower bitrate? That's the only thing that I can think of other than you adding more of other things (apps, pictures, videos, etc.) this time around but not the last time

I believe most PC mail programs by default are set to delete messages from the server once they are downloaded onto the PC. So if you access your email on your PC before your iPad checks for email some messages won't be there. To minimize this make sure you have Push set to on and Fetch set a short time limit (not Manual).

Why bother with the software upgrade BT ?

I've still got the old silver BTVision box, I've had it since launch which is quite a few years I can tell you !!. At the start the software was very dodgy, even watching TV had its problems. After some very overdue software upgrades the box now runs as sweet as a nut.
My question is, with the new HD Youview box on the horizon (which I will be getting day one), why bother upsetting the applecart ??. The old boxes are running fine so why introduce a new slow, buggy UI to a platform that is on its way out ?. What is BT trying to achieve here apart from forcing an upgrade on people that apparently doesnt provide any extra features and wipes all of your recordings ?.

Why Bother with Apple TV?

Get a Mini, hook it up via DVI to your TV, and enjoy your music, movies, rented movies, downloaded movies, photos, etc - without streaming anything or buying another box that will just need to be replaced in 6 months. At least with a Mini you get a whole computer for only $300 more that you can also use email, internet, work, etc.
Other than HD, I just don't see the difference...

The difference is more than $ 300, there is a major difference in concept when it comes to using a computer to do a consumer products job.
I initially had 4 tv's throughout the house but used the wife's mini in the kitchen in place of an tv there. No one used it and went to another room where there was an tv to use it instead. Eventually I bought the fifth and used it instead of the wife's mini and now everyone uses it.
The mini may well do more, be capable of higher quality and have unlimited storage capabilities and front row may not be all that different to the tv, but that difference is enough to be the difference between whether it gets used or not.

Why is icloud not syncing all my notes on all devices properly?

I have iCloud syncing of the new desktop/mobile app - "Notes" turned on in my desktop Imac, my Ipad and my Iphone.
All I want iCloud to do is simply mirror and sync all three of these Notes platforms so that the latest versions of all existing and new notes are identical in number and content on all devices.
Is that not what this great complicated,bug-prone iCloud is SUPPOSED to do ????
I had, over a long time (pre-iCloud and Mountain Lion), accumulated 61 separate notes on the Iphone, as this is where I create and refer to most of my notes.
Despite my having these 61 Iphone notes, only 17 are appearing on the desktop - and, indeed, it appears iCloud has gone and DELETED most of the notes I had previously synced up to the desktop from the iPhone using both iCloud and the old Itunes syncing,.... which of course has now no longer available..
Please, someone, how do I get Icloud to stop being selective and having a mind of its own about what it deletes and syncs and, instead, very simply do what it'as touted to do and mirror all notes in identical fashion on all 3 platforms. ?????
- Iam frustrated and on the verge of just shutting it all down and giving up on the Cloud - it is so poorly explained !!!

I can't see a failure on Apple's part: they are giving you Notes for each and every of your email accounts. In each account you can activate Notes or not. Can you ask for more flexibility? The rest depends on what you make out of it.
I'm not sure what you mean by
you end up having to create a separate iCloud email address, that apparently has no password, or at least I was never prompted for one and the only thing this email address is for is an outdated transport system that isn't used by the other iCloud data streams.
Most people have more email addresses, though not necessarily on iCloud, but everyone on iCloud has at least one @me.com and/or @mac.com address, which lets you sync your Notes across all OS X and iOS devices.
So, it looks as if - at least for now - you want only a single Notes "pad" that's in sync and accessible on all your Apple gear. No prob.
1. Make sure all your notes were copied or moved into Notes under your iCloud account.
2. On all your Apple gear, deactivate Notes for all (email) accounts except iCloud, and activate it for your iCloud account:
2.1. In OS X:
- The simplest way is to launch Notes, then -> Notes -> Accounts in the menu bar.
- Click on each non-iCloud account and uncheck Notes.
- Click on your iCloud account and make sure Notes is checked.
2.2. In iOS:
- Go to Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
- Tap on each non-iCloud accounts and turn Notes off.
- Tap on your iCloud account and make sure Notes are on.
That's it. Now you have only a single notepad everywhere, and since it's in iCloud and active on all your Apple devices, it stays in sync. See, makes sense, no?

I have apple mac pro desktop. When i open some profile on www.myspace.com, does my computer not show all pictures on that profile site. Can some one tell me if i need to download some software or plugin to see all pictures on the pages. I use safari beta.

No, you do not need additional software to view the pic, myspace is just not very mac friendly, as they say ( long time coming) they are working on it.
Myspace pages can be a nightmare, a couple of my friends pages for instance
have been known to crash my Safari beta & when on version S 2.
Try using Firefox as well, the "other" browser they recommend other then Safari
for Mac users, albeit they do not say which version of Safari to use.
Check pages including the one you have an issue viewing the pics on with the http://validator.w3.org/ to get an idea of how poorly coded they are.

I just checked my page which has not half the items that other pages use & it Failed validation, 91 Errors, one of my friends pages failed with 490 odd........
Of course I presume you have flash, as mentioned by QuickTimeKirk.
To check, in Safari under the Help menu, click on -> Installed plug-ins.
and check for Flash player.
Under Safari menu, Safari's preferences, Security tab- Web Content: you have Enable Plug-ins checked correct?

Why does firefo not remove all files when uninstalled

When I install all versions of Firefox prior to my current version 13 it does not uninstall all files. Why is this allowed? Why are all files not uninstalled when firefox is removed

My itunes on my iphone is not showing all my previously purchased songs. why is icloud not pushing all my music?

I just got my iphone 4S and went to download my purchased music from the itunes app, but several songs were missing. Why are they not showing? How do I get them?

I have had similar problems in the past like this one, give this a try:
Go to your iPhone settings>music> scroll down to "show all music" and make sure its on.

So why bother with Notes at all?
