So WHY should I upgrade?

Seeing all the issues people have had with
upgrading, is there ANY compelling reason
to do it? I know only those with problems post
and there are thousands who had no issues, but
why take the chance?
I have a 30gig Photo iPod, so the video benefits
are worthless. Just looking to find out what
differences there are between iTunes 5 and 6.

hi HoboPelican! (what a splendid alias.)
good question, and one that isn't especially easy to research (from a standing start).
to keep track of major feature changes in the versions, my first port of call is the Wikipedia itunes changelog:
iTunes version history
to keep track of security upgrades, i go here:
Apple security updates
(a hole in itunes 5.0.x was patched starting with 6.0.0.18, and QT 7.0.4 (which we first started getting with itunes version 6.0.2.23) patched some holes in earlier versions of QT 7.0.x.)
to keep track of minor improvements and bug fixes, i keep an eye on new and updated Apple KB docs via this page:
Articles modified in last 7 days
(which is also how i accidentally discovered that itunes 6.0.3.5 had been released.)
in terms of that sort of thing ... here's most of what i can think of terms of articles on bug fixes and performance tweaks and whatnot between itunes 5.0.1.3 and 6.0.4.2 (which is the version we were at as of the time of me starting to write this reply).
AirTunes: iTunes volume level does not affect remote speakers when using multiple speakers
iTunes 6.0.2: Wrong number of rating stars when configuring Smart Playlist rule
iTunes 6.0.2 quits unexpectedly when you connect ipod
iTunes for Windows quits unexpectedly importing CDs on a dual-processor or dual-core computer
iTunes for Windows: Audio files do not play in iTunes 5 or 6
iTunes: Changing the display language in Windows
iTunes 6: -208 Error message when playing iTunes Music Store content
... and i'm pretty sure that i must have missed at least one thing and probably more in that list.
but if you don't want any of the new features, and your itunes 5.0.x is working perfectly fine at the moment, there's no pressing reason that i can think of for you to upgrade.
love, b

  • HT5444 I am at 10.7.5 on a 2009 Macbook Pro.  Why should I upgrade to Mountain Lion

I am at 10.7.5 on a 2009 Macbook Pro.  Why should I upgrade to Mountain Lion?

In ways, Mountain Lion is a more efficient operating system than Lion, however, if you are happy with Lion and it meets all of your needs, there is o reason to change.  You can easily enough compare the features of the two and see if you are missing something that is important to you.  And then decide if you want to change.

  • Why should we upgrade

Why should we upgrade to windows server 2008 from windows server 2003 can we get some help on this  ?

Microsoft support for Windows Server 2003 ends July 2015 (next year)
    http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=3198
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/server-cloud/archive/2014/06/27/learning-from-cloud-what-are-your-windows-server-2003-migration-options.aspx
After that time, no updates, patches, security updates will be available, and, Microsoft will not offer any kind of support services for it at all.
At this point in the lifecycle, it would make much more sense not to upgrade to WS2008 (it is also not really very new).
Suggest you consider WS2012R2, or, consider if you really need a server at all, given the many options now available for hosted services, cloud, etc.

  • Very disappointed in 4G since 7.1 upgrade.  Why should I upgrade when my contract is up.  Looks like 5G has same WIFI problems.

Very disappointed in 4G iphone since 7.1 upgrade.  Why should I buy 5g or later iphone when it appears they have the same WIFI problems when upgraded?

try resetting.  settings, general, reset. I would try reset network settings first. if not successful then try reset all settings.
I'm using a IPhone 5 and like it very much since Sprint has been updating their network. The upgrade made a big difference even in the battery life.

  • Why Should I Upgrade to Mavericks 10.9.1?

So the reviews in the App Store really put me off upgrading my computer. I see a lot of complains about many details in the new system.
Yet I also see a lot of people who say that the upgrade works perfectly for them.
If thats the case, then why so many polar reviews, and what should I do to avoid having any problems if I decide to upgrade?

    Anybody?

  • Why should i upgrade from OS X 10.6.8 to Lion?

Should I spend 20$ for the upgradefrom OS X 10.6.8 to Lion?? Why, Why not.
Also, I want to use this (Blk MacBook 4,1) to edit GoPro videos. What is the best software for this application?

See this article on Lion to see if it has features that you want. OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is a good, solid operating system. Going to OS X 10.7 Lion, you do lose the ability to run PowerPC code. So if you have Office 2004, for example, it won't run under Lion, requiring an Office upgrade. That's because Apple dropped the PowerPC emulator that was in Leopard and Snow Leopard. Lion requires a minimum of 2GB of memory, and many have found that you need 4GB for reasonable performance.
If your MacBook will support it, you can upgrade directly to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. It's feature description is here.

  • Why should we upgrade to OBPM 11g?

    Hi all,
I am currently using OBPM 10g. Since OBPM 11g is the latest version, I would like to upgrade to 11g but from end user perspective what are the advantages of using OBPM 11g.
These are the questions I have regarding OBPM 11g. Can you help me with the answers? (I am new to 11g)
    1) Why OBPM 11g is better that 10g while it doesnt provide easy migration option (from 10g)?
    2) what are the advantages end user will see after we upgrade to 11g?
    3) What are the extra features available in OBPM 11g?
    4) What is the difference in performance ? Can OBPM projects accomodate 10,000+ users?
    5) what are the criteria we should look before migrating (apart from business requirements)?
    Thanks,

  • Why should I upgrade my Callmanager 4.x to a latest version?

I was wondering, we've an operational Callmanager 4.1 that has been running for quiet 4-5 years and never felt like we've to upgrade until recently that we're being pushed by Cisco to upgrade our applications\servers as their End-Of-Life has been announced and we'll be soon left out of support!
My question is from business perspective, what're the key features\benefits we'll get if we upgrade let's say to the latest version of UCM 7.X? How do you explain (in simple language) some critical enhancements\improvements that we'll get especially in terms of functionality, if we upgrade our Callmanager 4.x to UCM 7.0?
    Thank you all!

    Hi!
Here are some reasons why you should upgrade to a later version:
    1. As you just mentioned EoS/EoL. Older versions might be hitting bugs which will not be fixed
by the developers 'cause usually they fix new bugs on later versions. Also the support you can
get from TAC will end on EoS.
    2. CUCM 5.X through 8.X versions run on Linux, whether 4.X version used Windows. Linux is
an appliance model which is faster, more robust, provides more security and is not affected
by viruses. Besides the installation is easier and faster, you don't need to install first an OS
and then the CUCM. No need for Microsoft patches, CSA, anti virus, etc. The Linux OS and
CUCM SW come embedded so you just need one installation disk.
    3. With newer CUCM versions, newer features are introduced. For example older 4.X versions
do not support SIP endpoint registration, if you want to use newer features you will need to
upgrade. There have been several features introduced on newer versions, you can check them
    on the Release Notes:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/rel_notes/7_1_3/cucm-rel_notes-713.html
    4. If you are using other UC product such as Unity, CUC, UCCX, CUPS probably you'll need to
upgrade them too in case you want a new feature too. UC products have a compatibility between
them... it's important to check if you upgrade your CUCM if other products will need and upgrade
    too or viceversa.
Compatibiliy info between CUCM and other UC products can be found here:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr.html
    5. Newer versions such as 8.0 which can run on VMware. This means you can install it on a blade
server along with other UC coresident applications. Check out the requirements at:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/rel_notes/8_0_1/delta/vmware.html
    6. Just like with the CUCM SW, phone firmwares are also updated for later CUCM versions.
    7. With newer CUCM versions you can use newer phones. Suppose right now you are fine with
7940s and 7960s... but as they are EoS/EoL when you want to buy new phones, your CUCM 4.X will
probably not support them and you will need to upgrade.

  • Why should I upgrade if it will cost $15 more per month?

I've got an iphone 4 with unlimited data, 450 min of talk, and a block of text messages for $75 per month plus tax. I never go over 450 min, usually use less than 300 MB of data, and send/receive less than 200 text messages per month.
When I look at the upgrade options to an iphone 5, the cheapest plan is $90 for 1GB of data and unlimited talk and text. Since I only have 1 phone, I would be paying $15 more per month and receive no useful benefits based on my use pattern.
Is that the best Verizon can do, or is there a better upgrade deal that would better fit my use pattern?

The 450 plan is definitely still offered, but that 250 text plan isn't pretty sure it's only 1000 text plan, as the previous person stated it's just a really old plan, so that may need to be changed, along with the unlimited data obviously, so you should be looking at $5.01 more a month.
The 250 text plan may not fall off, I have a 1500 text plan and when I upgraded it didn't need to be changed.

I am currently running Yosemite on my MacBook but my iMac is still running Snow Leopard.
I believe that the hardware is compatible and I have enough RAM (4GB) and everything seems to work fine but are there enough advantages of making the change and there are any disadvantages.

  • Why should I upgrade tx fm firmware from installed 1.

My muvo 256 tx fm works fine playing my full ripped wma cds.what am i missing if i dont upgrade the firmware to the .9 that is available on this site?I dont want to miss any features but i dont want to mess up the players good performance so far.

This decision is totally up to you, a number people have updated the firmware (on many diffrent models) and CLAIM to have had either problems while upgrading or to have some problem later on. I for one haven't updated the firmware on my Zen as of yet, i am waiting a little while longer to see what other problems people have. I am like yourself who appear to be sceptical about these firmware upgrades. I don't know weather the firmware is responsible for this malfunctions or just operator neglect.

  • HT4041 Why should or shouldn't I upgrade to Lion?

I guess I don't understand what is so important about getting Lion if my computer is working fine on Snow Leopard.  Everyone is having so many problems with Lion.  Why should I upgrade or not upgrade?  I'm afraid my computer will crash or slow down, etc.  I have an older Macbook, 2008.  I could upgrade but I'm doubtful of the necessity.  I don't do any web work, meaning publishing to the web or sharing documents.  I basically use it for writing (I have a novel writing software program) or internet stuff and that's it.  I'm not a genius as far as all the issues mentioned, so that's why I'm asking.  Thanks!!!

I don't have an Ipad.  I don't use my phone in that sort of way either.  I'm guessing the icloud is for people who need that upgrade, then?
Yea, it's Apple tying all that together, so you buy a iPhone or iPad then your going to want everything synced on your computer, so you buy a Mac.
It's a trap really, locking one into Apple's universe so they can inflict bloated OS X upgrades like Lion on older hardware and force a premature hardware upgrade. Don't upgrade hardware then they deny services like MobileMe etc like they are doing to 10.6 and earlier users.
I don't advise Lion for any Mac that originally came with 10.5.  Originally 10.6 sure, not 10.5, it's because the hardware is slightly dated and Lion is going to do a dam fine job of crippling it and also make all your PPC 10.5 software no longer work.
So Lion is a lose lose for most 10.5 machines, plus it's depressing and strange, everything is wrong about the UI. Reverse scrolling, no "Save As" AutoSave is annoying as heck, no Spaces or Exposé, the programs reload upon restart so your boot time is totally crippled. etc.
Lion is Mr. Hyde to Snow Leopard's Dr. Jekyll.
BTW who need iWork when LibreOffice, a free Office like clone, is totally free and cross platform, Linux, Windows and OS X?
They do ask for donations and you should do so. Apple has enough money and they make it from hardware/iPhones, not software all that much.

  • Why should my clients who use contribute 3 suffer because I upgrade from cs3 to cs4?

I developed a template that can be used by a number of chapters of a charitable organization. The chapters who subscribe to my template all purchased contribute cs3 and it works well for them.  I may have made the mistake of buying the CS4 upgrade, as any new keys that I send using Dreamweaver cs4 to new users can not be used by users with contribute cs3. Most of these chapter already using contribute 3, do not have the funds to upgrade to contribute 4.
The code of my template has not changed, only the tool that I use to administer it has, why should they have to upgrade because I have?
This also makes it so that older users of my template will not be able to beneifit from the new version of the template. Do I have to reinstall CS3 and keep using CS3 to administer their network or do I have to force them to purchase the upgrade because I chose to upgrade to Dreamweaver CS4? There had to be a way I can send a contribute 3 user a new key because the user has changed names without forcing them to upgrade. Otherwise I have to develop my template so that changes can be made by users using other wisiwig programs.

    Thanks for that.
Yes I had the notion I may have been duped into buying a counterfeit CS3. I got it from Amazon and though Adobe seem to think that the serial number is OK they could not trace it on their system. However, if ths is a fake copy, what can Adobe do to help? How did they help you? I can't see them giving me a free CS3 in exchange - so I'm stuck!
    Kind regards
I had exactly the same problem and I am sorry to say that you may have a counterfeit version of CS3. Contact Adobe they helped me to sort out the problem.
